I'm on BPB1 am I screwed? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dad unlocked and tried to install Xposed only to be met with a bootloop so he ended up installing BPB1 via Odin(the full firmware) and now he wants to root again. I'm pretty sure he's SOL but I'm just posting here to be completely sure. Is there anything he can do or is he screwed until he's out of contract?

Root/Recovery issue

Alright, so I finally found a Razr M that has the bootloader unlocked and went to root it and it wouldn't root. I booted into recovery and it has TWRP installed on it so I tried to install CleanRom and it failed and said something about it tried to patch something but I can get a picture if need be.
I'm kind of at a loss on what I need to do, bootloader is definitely unlocked since it has the splash screen and it says unlocked on the black screen (sorry don't know what it's called). It's on baseband .81P so if there is anything anyone could tell me I would greatly appreciate it.

Which tool did you use to root? The first time I tried to root right after getting the phone, I had to wipe cache/dalvik and FDR. Also, since your BL is unlocked, you should just be able to flash a SU binary in TWRP and get root. I know there's one running around here somewhere.

Motofail was for 4.1.1 and Motochopper was for 4.1.2 (this was included in the utility 1.20). Sometimes these things have to be run multiple times, at least that's what I've seen.
Here's Chopper by itself: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/15208-root-motochopper-yet-another-android-root-exploit-412/ . However, you might have to wipe to get this to work, I did anyway. Before it comes to that, I would try to flash SU in recovery.
Thanks, flashed the SU Binary's and I'm up and running..now I have root and all is well in the world haha
Awesome! Been trying to solve that world peace issue like forever, man! Good deal!

You wrote you want to reset your phone to the BS free ROM, but then at the end you write you want to get root access. What state was your phone in when you started to try this? Was your phone already rooted? Was your phone already rooted and on BS free ROM and just needed to clean up your phone and get back onto the BS free ROM? If you were not already rooted and had taken the Verizon OTA updates to Lollipop, chances are good you cannot root your phone, and therefore you cannot run the BS Free ROM. Let us know what state your phone was in when you started this so we can help you better.

What software version you're on and did you have root before you tried to reset to Verizon Galaxy S5 to BS_FREE_Lolipop??
To reply to everyone the only thing I ever did with the phone was update to 5.0 If I can't get root no big deal but I really want to install something that gets rid of all the Verizon junk apps :/

If you never rooted your phone and you took all of the Verizon OTA updates to 5.0 you are most likely on OG5 and cannot root your phone. If you took an OTA update in the past few days before trying this, you may have been on the latest OK3 security patch update. Your best bet would probably be to find the OG5 full factory tar file and flash it in ODIN to get your phone back to a working state. I think there is a thread in the general section where you can find the file you need.

Well I was able to repair it finally using the tool, I'm still on 5.0 so I'm guessing I'm screwed... What about downgrading and then doing root / custom ROM? Or am I just screwed all together LOL I'd just sell the phone at this point since I no longer have Verizon (they're ****) but still have the phone.

Sorry to keep saying no, but if you are on OE1, OG5, or the new OK3 you cannot downgrade. You are stuck where you are.

SM-G950F Root

Ok, I have rooted Galaxy S4s and 5s, usually the T-Mobile versions. I just ordered a used SM-G950F off ebay. It did not say if it was Nougat or Oreo.
Been searching, and have not found my answer, so I hope someone might be able to send me a link or advise me.
Want a rooted S8. Stock rom would be ok, but I would prefer custom down the road.
This is how I have been rooting the S4s and 5s
Put SuperSU zip on phone.
Then flash TWRP from Oden and not let it reboot. Do a battery pull, and then start the phone to recovery, then flash the SuperSU from TWRP.
Can I do this with the S8 ? (SM-G950F)
Thanks!
Come on you gurus, just take 1 minute and help me out ..... ffs
or maybe I posted the question in the wrong place, or your bored with the question.
I was a mod on another type of forum, I posted a sticky ... you dumb asses

But seriously, I heard about a bootloader, (version 2?) that if I try to flash twrp might brick my phone. Have not actually pulled the trigger on buying a SM-G950F yet, but want to know if I can attain root on this device if its on android V8.0
I did try searching, but it just sits there with no results no matter what I put in the field. Might be because I am in Alaska and my internet SUCKS!
I am at the point I would pay someone like $20 via paypal if they know what they are doing and they want to give me Tech Support

The process I've followed is as follows.
Now please take into account that I flash twrp and part of that process is that data partition needs to be formatted, so make sure anything that's needed back it up.
Have a look at some roms, download one to your memory card.
Flash twrp via Odin, you will need to wipe data in twrp and return to twrp.
Flash the Rom in twrp as normal.
Now if you want just root, flashing cf-autoroot via Odin is the of other choice, flashing magisk or supersu will involve twrp so like I said earlier you'll end up wiping data.
Hope this helps in some sort of way
Thanks! I have been searching for hours in my free time to see if I can do this. I just read in a few threads that if the phone is on Oreo it would have a locked bootloader. I went thru that helping my buddy root his ATT 337 S4. Almost bricked his phone.
I will be starting with a new phone, dont care about tripping knox. Just want root so I can use titanium backup to freeze/uninstall any of the bloat. I would get a costom rom after root eventually.
I will get a SH-G950F ordered. I just didnt want to get the phone and not be able to root. Almost ordered The SH-G950U and its got snapdragon, and I read thats not the best version if I have a choice.
I love my rooted S4 but its kind a turtle so need to move forward.
Thanks So much for your help sofir786 !!!!!

How to root Galaxy A9 2018 (A920F)?

Has anyone successfully rooted A9 2018 (A920F)?
Is anyone working on it?
How to root
you can use rooting tool or a application to root your galaxy. But there are pros and cons. So you have to consider about them. You can use a single click rooting applications but i can not guarantee it is safe. So you have to do it at your own risk.
We can start with that. That's a good option. I hope it will work.

Yes, there is no twrp for A920F
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, Dr.fone. But all failed
We need to get some traction on this. Has anyone submitted a request to get TWRP on this model?
I managed to get this rooted with EFT dongle. There was no other method that I could find.

I submitted the request for TWRP on TWRP builder today.
Rooted Successfully
SM-A920F can be successfully rooted by OneClickRoot. If you pay them, they can help you root it manually. My device has been rooted successfully.
But now, the problem is TWRP. Technicians from OneClickRoot told me no TWRP is available for this device and they can't help. So I submitted the request on TWRP builder. But nearly 40 devices are ahead of me waiting for TWRP building.
Is there anyway to get the TWRP faster?

Does it trip knox counter?
Edit: I said screw the knox counter, I'm going with it. Everything was all green until it asked me to register so I entered some name and email. Then it asked me 30$(or 40$ if you're doing it from the computer and not the app). Definitely not worth it to root.
Edit 2: I'm now trying the Magisk boot file patch method, which can work without root and custom recovery. Unlocked developer options, checked OEM unlock option(which needed a factory reset)
downloaded stock firmware, extracted boot.img from it, patched and repacked it using magisk manager and finally flashed it to phone using odin. Knox counter is already tripped. It required another factory reset when I booted it after flashing(It said device integrity was compromised and it needed a factory reset, so I did it) but no bootloops. Aaand after I waited long enough to be able to install magisk manager again, I found out that my attempt was a success! I can now enjoy systemless root on my phone, at the expense of tripping the knox counter of course.
And of course, no luck on twrp side, which could've made the whole process easier for me.
Edit 3: It may sound simple when I write it like this here but it actually is a lengthy process. In fact, I looked up multiple guides on the internet, at least one for each part I talked about above and sometimes more than one since this is my first samsung phone ever.
Edit 4: One last thing, I can pass SafetyNet as well now, which was failing right after I did the OEM Unlocking and factory reset but before I actually rooted it with magisk.
