Hi,
So I managed to shatter my front LCD and just got it fixed.
Good news, I had signed up for Samsung Concierge, so I had to pay up 50% of off-warranty repairs.
Bad news, after 50% discount it still cost me SGD 190$.
So, the tech consultant claimed that the screen itself can't be replaced and they replaced the entire front portion i.e. the LCD + Digitizer + Bezel + buttons + USB port.
So - If you are buying this phone, get some additional cover, or insurance.
I still haven't found a suitable tempered glass protector for the edge.
sad to hear that. i got a leather flip case
on ebay are several glass protectors. orderd mine today from seller cyber-2011. Hope it helps
Good to know. Its costly. Before the S7E my wife had the s6e and she cracked her screen nasty and was told couldnt be fixed and more than likely if i filed an insurance claim we would pay 150 or so for a refurbished phone.
So i think even if u got insurance ur may get a refurbished device if replaced. Kinda sicks but beats buying a brand new phone at full price.
A glass protector won't do miracles against drop protection. You need a proper case for that like uag for example.

So I dropped my phone today and now the screen is flickering. the screen is smooth and you cannot feel cracks so the glass itself is fine. There are cracks underneath the glass so I'm assuming it's the display. Can anyone direct me to replacement parts?
Thanks

If you don't want new, search on Amazon for S4 LCD. I just bought the black one above for a few dollars more. Its brand new, and you wont regret buying new. Of course there are used ones on ebay, I guess it depends on the quality and reliability of the seller, but i can vouch for the black one i bought on amazon.
I have a z3 that had a cracked digitizer. The damn thing broke under my cheap tempered glass screen protector. I call bull**** Sony! I paid premium money for a less than stellar screen in my opinion. Anyhow, I'm thinking about replacing the screen but can't decide the wrought to go. I could get an oem pulled from a z3 but I have to ask if it's worth doing for another bull**** screen that will break on me again. I see lots of knockoff screens on eBay and though I've had bad luck not buying oem before I wonder if they might use a digitizer that's on par with the rest of the market. I've never had a cracked screen destroy all functionality of the touch screen. I can't believe Sony used a product like that on such a kick ass phone. Please share all your experiences with cracked screens and repairs. Not sure why I couldn't use silicone to reseal the phone. The speakers may be a bit of a problem but I've accomplished quite a bit with cell phone repair and I'm up to the challenge. Please help me and our community to replace our own screens and retrain the waterproof feature.
not broken after 1,5 years. Wife's screen also not broken after same time.
Mine also didn't broken, bought the phone while the phone start selling.
Maybe your smartphone using too overheat and let the glass cracked?
To remove the screen you will have start by removing the back glass and the bottom speaker set (at least for my D6643). You would have to be carefull in order to not damage the bottom speaker waterproof adhesive (it's hard to find a replacement), you also need to buy a a new back and front waterproof adhesive to hold the screen and the back glass. Between a stock screen pulled from another from phone (if not too expensive) and a chinese one ($24), I would choose the stock since you will not find a lcd with same quality. Keep in mind that your phone may not be waterproof anymore.
How can I tell that the screen the third party repair center is using is Gorilla 4?
Where can I buy online genuine screen? And is it true as I read online that since all device parts need to be removed to reach the screen it will be impossible not to have after repair marks or dents?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
virtually impossible to take phone apart without the right tools and damaging the black glass camera lens.
I purchased a screen and rear battery cover (which came with the black glass lens cover and the strip at the bottom on the back. The screen was around €50 and the back cover around €20. Also, you should purchase a screen separator like this: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/LCD-Screen-R...t-Tool-Manual-Sucker-Separator-/141888803105? as it is very difficult to get the screen out.
If you are careful, it is not such a a difficult job, and I would say to ask the seller about whether or not is is Gorilla 4. Personally, I user good glass screen prtoectors, and seeing how breakable the gorilla 4 is, I'm not too worried about ensuring it is 100% original Gorilla 4 - I am am happy with the result: I bought a broken 2 month old Nexus 6p 128GB silver and have fixed it all for about €300.
I got mine properly repaired through Huawei who directed me to an approved repair centre. Paid £130 but it's all official Huawei parts, and I think the repair comes with a warranty.
Edit: I should probably mention that even this official repair scuffed the aluminium and slightly bent the bezel where the guy tried to take the old screen out
Thanks
EDIT:- Forgot to mention the case used was otterbox symmetry "Still on in pics" and the screen guard was on a soft plastic kind and not a tempered one.
This phone is a fragile phone for sure even a case with a lip did not help I have dropped a Note5 before in a similar way without any damage. It fell out from my trouser pocket to the bathroom floor while getting up from the pot so it was not very far away from the ground in the first place but the crack is massive and I have been quoted INR 18-20k by Samsung I have just given the phone to the service center and I have searched around for a cheap Chinese screen replacement but it seems they have not yet cloned the edge display .
Other than the crack everything else is working properly there is no touch gaps or anything. I have made up my mind to sell it and get a Note8/iphone8 later but a uncracked S8 will get me lots more than a cracked one so since finding a Chinese cheap replacement is hard what should I do?
Does anyone know if it's possible to buy just the glass for screen? I have a small crack in bottom right corner and a sliver of glass fell out so I can see inside the phone. The LCD digitizer is fully intact no issue. Only thing I can find is full screen replacement with digitizer and all.
I'd like to know as well. I checked one repair shop (Ubreakifix) they stated they have successfully performed the screen replacement once but it was very difficult and cost more than the 200 out of warranty replacement essential offers.
I would personally not bother and just go with the $200 out of warranty replacement that Essential charges

I see some sellers on ebay, selling only the Glass Lens screen. I am ordering one today for my cracked screen which still responses well. The glass lens is for ~10dollars vs the whole lcd replacement kit for 60bucks.
Let know if anyone has had success with replacement the glass lens only.

How did your install go? I'm thinking about going the same route but I'm concerned it'll just be a big hassle and waste of time.

Not that I know of, a Fix It Fast repair shop said they can't replace just the glass and have to do the full screen.
I paid $70 for a screen online and they charged $30 for labor so I paid $100 in all to have mine fixed(Only took 45 mins).
I broke my screen and not living in the US meant essential wanted nothing to do with me. If you don't mind buying from Aliexpress there are loads of sellers selling replacement screens. Despite what iFixit say, it was really easy. I just used a heat gun and a suction cup and lifted from the top of the phone first as the ribbon cable is at the bottom. After that there just 2 small screw that hold the cable in.
Only real caveat I have for the DIY route is none of the screens I've seen ship with adhesive to fit them. I just used the narrowest 3M double sided tape for screens I could get and still had to trim it down.
The glass, digitizer and screen are pretty much bonded together as one thing I would really not recommend attempting that even if you find somewhere just selling the glass.
