6p usb-c problem - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I have a problem with my nexus 6p and windows 10.
I am using Toolkit to flash and back up my device. However, every time I restart my nexus 6p while it is plugged in with the USB-c my PC won't recognize it. So every time I restart my nexus I have to unplug then plug again for it to be recognized.

Using toolkits could be a headache, at some points. They are good, and ease out things, but I don't prefer using them.
Here, in your situation, it seems like a problem with drivers itself.
Okay, so do one thing. Connect your 6P to the PC, and while keeping it connected, go to Control Panel > Device Manager. Grab a screenshot, and share it here.

After I restart my nexus the device will charge but not show up in the device manager. Unless i unplug - plug again.

Okay, so the device here is using the regular Microsoft MTP drivers, I guess.
Do you have Android SDK installed? You can use the SDK manager to download Google USB drivers. Thereafter, update the USB drivers from Device Manager.

Wait. Once you connect the device, do you bring down the notification panel, and select MTP as the desired connection?
Actually, by default, the charging mode is enabled. You just need to switch it to MTP or other desired modes. Hope you know that?

Try uninstalling the drivers via "Device Manger" on your pc and reconnect the device. Also, do u have usb debugging enabled in developer options?

Now after a reset of the phone, device isn't recognized and the connected as media device doesn't show up anymore. Tried more than 1 computer.
Try uninstall the USB drivers from your PC. Or try other USB ports to detect your device. Sounds like your USB drivers has screwed up. Should not be your device problem.

I tried on some other computers... You think uninstalling the drive will solve the problem since it's not on my main PC only?
EDIT : May it have something to do with this?
I have a feeling it is the charging port. I had a similar issue. Are you good with a soldering iron?

Before start working on the hardware, I suggest to investigate the software side further. Have you make a factory reset? (Worst case). Try enable and disable the USB debugging mode as well. http://androidteen.com/how-to-enable-usb-debugging-mode-on-android-devices/
Try to toggle both media file mode and camera mode. See what is the response from your device to pc.

Are you using the cable that came with the phone, use usb 2.0 ports, not 3.0. And try different usb ports, the ones on the back of the pc not the front. That's all I can think of

What I have tried:
Using 3 different cables, all works with other phones.
Using other computers both Windows and Mac.
Tried both Fastboot mode and adb sideload in recovery
Replaced the whole usb flex cable inside the phone
Installing a bunch of drivers adb/usb
still nothing, no connection whatsoever even with the BRAND NEW usb flex cable

Windows 8.1 Users be careful!!!

I thought i was going crazy! I lost MTP and ADB and could not figure out why. I forced the Google USB driver but it still got overwritten!
I turned off automatic driver updates and deleted all drivers... Found this waiting for me!
It caused all sorts of issues. If your on Win 8.1 be warned!!!

Not sure if this a Google issue or a Windows 8.1 issue...
Post what you know :good:
Got the same update, it didn't recognize my N7. Uninstalled it in device manager and hid the update in Windows update. When I connected the N7 back, Win 8.1 installed the correct ADB driver. No issues since then.
I never use automatic updates or driver updates built into windows, the windows update drivers a lot of the time can be problematic. When I saw that update I immediately hide it.
A tool you can use to clean up USB driver installs is USBDeview,
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
It allows you to uninstall all USB devices, including those disconnected, and hubs. Have to be careful when removing connected devices like mouse and keyboard, or your computer may freeze. If I have issues with connecting my android devices, I use this to clean up so I can reinstall the drivers.
Good info!
In all my years of computing and Android I have never seen Microsoft push a bad driver so I always had it on Auto Pilot. Learned my lesson!
i got hit with this too... switched back to Google driver and everything is working again

I didn't like the look of it when it showed up in Win Update, so I just hid it, thanks for the heads up anyway!
If you look in the device manager you might find multiple instances of the driver under the ACER device. Deleting all of the "greyed out" (ghost) ones may resolve the problem. Otherwise deleting them all and then connecting the device should work. If not, delete the device under Portable devices, then connecting your device will clear up the problem.

And yes, that update was an unexpected a$$-kicker. It knocked out N5 and N4 too.

Device descriptor request failed (Code 45)

I'm about to go crazy about this.
I can't get my computer recognize my Nexus 4 (which is running CyanogenMod 13, Android 6.0.1).

I've trying almost everything:
Uninstall the device driver (from Device Manager) and reconnect the phone again
Restart phone and PC
Try different USB cable / port
Try different computer
Download latest Google USB Driver and try to update the driver with the error (which resulted in "your driver is up-to-date message")
Connect the phone in recovery mode and bootloader mode
Connect the phone in recovery mode with MTP enabled (via TWRP recovery)
My PC is running Windows 10.
Please help me out!

You could try connecting it to another computer, if you have access to one. That way we can find out if it is a phone problem or computer problem.

Can't transfer files between computer and S8

I've been trying to simply transfer some files between my Windows 7 computer and my S8 without success. Yes, I know all the steps, download the USB drivers, install them, connect the S8, tap transfer files on the icon that appears and go ahead. When I connect the S8 it immediately begins to charge the phone. When I tap on the icon it simply says that I can charge if faster if I connect to a USB3 port, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get into transfer files mode. I eventually copied the files to a USB stick and then from the USB stick to the S8 but surely it's possible to do this with a simple direct connection as it has been on all the other phones I've had. Anyone know how to do this simple task?

On G950F Exynos version.
I get the same error message and have done all the usual but Win 7 will NOT connect me prioperly to allow file transfer.
I was offered an update (circa 200MB) and that didn't help it either.
Linux on the other hand does it just fine, but I'd like to get the Win version working. MTP driver always shows as not successful.
Any ideas?

I thought the solution was absolutely stupid but it worked for me.
Try connecting the phone to a USB 2 Port at the back of your CPU.
It never worked for me as long as I used a USB 3 Port.

Finally...
