When I plug in my OP2 in my Mac or PC the phone wants me to choose every time what type of connection I want. I would like it to be preset to "File Transfer" but I always get the "click here to choose". Where do I set it to File Transfer as default?
Running on rooted Marshmallow Stock Beta
I guess the default is charging only.. You need to change it everytime you plug in.. At least on stock OOS 3.0 beta..
I couldn´t find any options, so I guess you are right. Too bad there´s no hack for rooted phones

Hi,
I just got my Samsung I9000 today (also my first time ever using Android) and about 3 hours ago, when I first connected the phone to my PC, it has the usb icon on the notification bar, and saying that running something kies (which at that moment I had no idea what i meant).
Later on, I know about Samsung Kies so I download it to my PC in the hope of syncing Outlook - I9000... but when I connect the phone to my USB port, it only make some sounds, then saying that its charging, but in the device manager its saying as "Unrecognised USB device"... while in the Setting/About Phone/USB Setting I already pick the option kies/ask on connect.
I use Windows 7 32bit Ultimate, phone firmware 2.1-update1, kernel 2.6.29 if that helps at all...
Could someone please:
1. Tell me how to fix this problem, so I can sync my phone with Kies?
2. How I can sync Kies with Outlook?
3. Tell me what is the equivalents of Tasks in Android?
Thanks

Hi gurluver!
I also had this problem today.. but i fixed it.
I dont know what it was of the things i did but.. try the following..
1. Remove externa sdcard if you have any (or turn it of in the settings menu, i removed mine).
2. Restart the phone!
3. Restart KIES
4. plug i the phone.
I did both and it worked, and when it got connected in KIES i put back the external sdcard.
GL
I had the problem of not being able to see either the internal storage or the SD card when my phone was connected by USB to Windows 7 (64 bit).
Even after I installed the drivers in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705898&highlight=windows+7+usb I still couldn't get it working.
Then I fixed it by going into the notifications on the phone, selecting the 'usb connection' one, and a box popped up asking if I wanted to mount the cards. Chose mount and it started working!
KIES will not detect the phone unless it is set to KIES connection under Settings>About Phone>USB settings.
Having a custom launcher like Launcher Pro will also cause the device to not be detected by KIES.
I simply keep the phone usb settings to "Mass Storage". When i plug the phone into the pc, from the notification bar, select usb connection and then click on "Mount". This is a faster way to getting stuff across over to the phone rather than KIES.
Is there any way to connect with Kies or have the phone mount to the PC while using a custom launcher? I have it set to ask on USB connection, but Kies doesn't seem to launch properly on the phone with Launcherpro, and mounting it results in Windows 7 going unknown device Kies works fine with stock launcher though, just don't wanna have to use homeswithcer and then reboot everytime i have to copy anything, if I can do it an easier way.

No need to reboot - just launch touchwiz launcher from home switcher, connect to Kies, and press "home" to switch back to LauncherPro when finished. Works fine here.
btw: when I copy files I usually use Estrongs File Manager to connect to my NAS (or you could just connect to a share on your PC) and copy the files there, much easier than fiddling with cables.
Yes. I have been doing it a lot lately but would not recommend it if you are going to do a firmware upgrade or flash. Always go back to the original for that.
It is very simple. I use the power widget which is stock. Simply turn off Bluetooth and Sync. Then connect and away you go.

Oh yea works without reboot, just have to set the stock one to default and launch it here, otherwise Kies will just be stuck on connecting to device Annoying as hell it doesn't work with custom launcher :-/ oh well thx.
As I said if you turn off bluetooth and sync it also works perfectly from LauncherPro. But never mind.

Oh sorry, I was on the reply page for a while, so didn't load your post... I will try that workaround thanks
i hate Kies!!!!!!!!! it just died on me >.<
now when i plug the phone to the PC it shows up as "Unknown Device"
if i connect to another computer, then it works fine.
the thing was working fine until i tried uninstalling Kies to install a newer version fo Kies
In Kies click the Kies menu then driver recovery. Leave it finish then re-start Kies.
that was the first thing it did, still nothing
it's something in the windows registry that screwed up when uninstalling Kies
i have something similar on another USB port, windows always thinks anything plugged into is bad, but if i use the same USB port and devices on another computer, they work fine.
Windows is horrible at managing USB ports information, trying to find a tool/fix to repair the wrongged registry info without having to reinstall the entire PC again.
Download, configure and run "CCleaner". Make sure you do a backup when it asks you to.

A suggestion - Proceed at your own risk:
1. Install: ERUNT to backup the registry. I have it set to autobackup the registry on boot. I use XPP and ERUNT has saved me many times.
2. Open Regedit and locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
3. Scroll down to \DosDevices\ (including both \)
I have had success in the past by deleting USB drive letter entries that were assigned when I attached removable devices. Then when I attach the USB device, Windows re-assigns a drive letter. Acronis Disk Director would on occasion change the drive letter for my E: partition rendering it unbootable. It is in this key where the damage was done and where it was corrected.
DO NOT DELETE OR MODIFY ANY HARD DISK entries for any of your Hard Disk partitions or you may not be able to boot to the partition whose entry was deleted or modified.
4. You may also need to delete the device from within Device Manager. Then re-attach the device so Windows can identify it as new hardware and re-install it. Windows may also attempt to re-install drivers.
5. You may need to manually scan and clean the registry for Kies and remove all entries, or you might try re-installing the older version that worked for you.
I hope this helps.
Is there any way to get rid of this Kies software? I mean is there a 3rd party software for android managing. (contacts/sms/etc...)
This Kies is driving me nuts! :/
Hello guys, i've got some problem with file transfer both in pc to op5 and op5 to pc with USB, i don't know why but apparently the problem affect only medium to big files. I can transfer little files like jpg, while i have some problem with mp3, sometime work sometime not, if i insist generally work. If i try with huge files like the OTA now that i'm trying to upgrade the oxygen is not working at all. I suppose the drivers are properly installed since i can open the folders inside pc. Obviously the debug usb is active, i tryed to enable mtp in developer option (is normal that there isn't any mtp selection in the four transfer available? even if enabled mtp i still see "recharge" "file transfer" "photo transfer ptp" "midi"). I usually select file transfer, i don't even know what MIDI is and ptp is only about photos. The phone is rooted with the last official twrp and last magisk, the os is OOS 4.5.8. and is still encrypted. PC is with windows 10
edit: i can't even copy/paste those big files from a folder inside the phone to another one always in the phone.
Try using a USB 2.0 port

Might be a long shot but try doing a simple restart of your phone and computer and see if that helps
I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

That's interesting. I'm transferring like 80% of my files trough MTP and it is and always was working fine, but I'm using Linux, so that might help you guys to solve it

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
Can anyone help me?
I just got a new 6T and today I decided to try a custom rom.
I got successful in flashing the Fajita Vendor, AOSiP with Gapps Pico by using TWRP. I didn't get magisk
I connect my phone to my PC, went to Developers Settings to make sure 'USB Configuration is on the top most'. There were only File Transfer, USB Tethering, MIDI, PTP and No Data Transfer. I set it to File Transfer but it could not get detected on my PC. I have tried 3 different PCs and my phone could not get the storage detected on the PC (so I could transfer some old data back/if I would want to take data out of the phone too)
I've tried to go back to OOS by flashing the OOS rom but still the same.
I hope someone can help me.
This is a bug from Android 10 custom roms.
You can transfer files in TWRP though.

I have gone back to OOS 9.0.17 for the meantime. I can now see storage detected on the PC but when I click on it, it doesn't show any folder nor allow me to copy stuff in. I've also set USB Configuration to File Transfer too.

Nvm. I fixed it by going to TWRP and Fixing content. On OOS 9.0.17.

Good to know
The other way to enable mtp
Connect your device to PC, you will /must hear a sound on the PC.
Check drivers
On you android phone
Open settings, go to storage, press the three dot option on the top right side, you will find USB computer connection, open it and choose mtp.
Check my answer
