I have been told that Nvideas geforce now streaming service will run on the mojo although it wont recognise some of the titles. Does anyone have an apk file for this.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see how. According to Nvidia's website:
*GeForce NOW is free for the first 3 months per SHIELD device.
Requires credit card registration on a SHIELD. Limited time offer.
1. Go to your SHIELD device
2. Log in to GeForce NOW
3. Start playing PC games instantly

Apparently the service is built into the Shield's OS, and the Shield itself must be registered with Nvidia. Perhaps some dev could extract a .apk and maybe some dependencies and make it work, if you also had a Shield that met the requirements. Seems like a lot of work when you could just play on the Shield anyway.

I've been messing with the SHIELD since day one. Trying everything from emulators to the beta PC streaming. We're limited to Nvidia GPUs unless you root, or use other third party apps and software. I recently purchased FFARR (XIV) because I heard it would have controller support. After about 20 minutes of messing with splashtop and kainy to to get it to work I found myself stumped. Then I remembered you can add non-steam games to the library of steam. So first I added the main .exe to steam with no luck, but when I tried the ffxivboot.exe it launches the client and I used the steam in-app keyboard to sign in and launch the game. It worked! Full controller support! You just have to go into configurations and make sure controller is enabled. FFARR gives you the option to setup your hud, which i would recommend because you're going to want the most possible visible space especially if you're playing on the SHIELD. I'm not very experienced with android yet, so I may not be able to answer questions on that end, but I own a PC tech business so computer-wise feel free to ask me anything. :good:

We can use non Nvidia GPUs with simply rooting no third party apps?

no. Rooting will not alter the NVidia GPU limitation. Root isn't required for 3rd party apps (which do bypass the GPU limitation but dont perform as well). Honestly I havent a clue what the OP is on about in that regard.

No you're right, the third-party apps do work, but they don't work as well. I wanted a way to add non-steam games to steam and get them to work that way. Since I recently purchased FFXIV I figured I would start there.
EDIT: ok got it your using shield native app just and added a non steam game.
Wait are you saying you were able to use 360 controls natively on your shield using splastop by launching via steam(the controller detects xinput without gfe/shield app)?
im not sure what your saying. but it would be awesome if it worked that way
But root is not required at all, You can stream from any gpu with splashtop or splashtop thd.

No I wasn't able to use the 360 controller natively with splashtop, thats why i was so frustrated with the third party apps. BUT when you go through steam by adding the ffxivboot.exe, you'll be able to login, launch the game and then the controller works on the shield.
Long time reader, first time posting.
Install requires root.
Squirrel LLC just released an android version of their app Reflector ($7). This app can be installed fairly simply on the FireTV, turning it into an airplay receiver for screen sharing and display extension, not just video or audio playing.
This requires root (instructions here) and the google play store (instructions here- they are for kindle, but work) before you can install this program.
Once you have the play store installed and you are signed in, you will be able to install apps remotely. This is much easier, as the play store is somewhat difficult to navigate on the Fire TV itself. However, Google will think the Fire TV is not compatible with Reflector.
To circumvent compatibility restrictions, download Market Helper and install on your FireTV (sideload instructions here). This will allow you to spoof your device type and install the app. I used the Nexus 7 as the device type. Make sure you've run google play services and signed into the play store before you run this, so it can read your id. The activate buttons are invisible until you are selecting them, so just press down and over until you find what you want.
After setting up your Fire TV to look like a Nexus 7, head back to the play store and set Reflector to install remotely.
From here, you can use any airplay device to broadcast to the Fire TV!
Couldn't you use snappea instead of google play?

I wasn't able to get this to work in Extend Desktop mode with my Mac. Since there's only a 15 minute refund period, I already got the refund, so it's possible I was doing something wrong, but the Play description didn't mention Extend Desktop mode. I don't see how I was doing anything wrong though, since the only settings in the app is the Name and the Password (and I didn't set a password). I did remember to turn off AirPlay in my other AirPlay app before trying Reflector.
Prior to this, I was already using AirReceiver to handle IOS mirroring. If all you want is IOS mirroring, I believe it was less expensive. Since it was bought through the Amazon store, it shows up with an icon on main screen (in my Apps and Recent sections). I don't recall if you can buy it on the FireTV or not, but I think so. A Voice search for Air Receiver brings it up.
Thanks!
Hey Guys,
Sid from Squirrels here!
Thanks for the walkthrough and the instructions. We're glad you got everything working!
We've actually submitted Reflector to the Amazon Fire TV store. The approval process is a bit more lengthy and involved than normal Google Play submissions.
As for extended desktop from a computer. It should work alright. I'de be interested in seeing logs from this to see why it didn't work for you. You can email our support team and they'll be happy to get it working!
Thanks again for the instructions.
So why root?? Why not just side load reflector??

Reflector is a paid app, and I have no experience sideloading paid apps / getting a signed apk out of one. I found it to be easier to root and install the play store than to bother with that. If you are aware of an easy method to get the APK out of a paid app, I'd love to hear it- I always pay for my apps, but sometimes I need to install them in a dev environment where the play store isn't available, and I'd like to know.
If you're concerned about rooting, I'd consider the advantages. Rooting is a piece of cake now thanks to Towelroot, and it gives you uped duper more functionality than you have without it, especially if you are using this device to run XBMC primarily.

Thanks for the good customer support. I figured it was the Amazon store's lengthy submission process that was holding things up and not an actual compatibility issue, which is why I decided to hack this together.
I own no other Amazon devices (and probably won't), so it's to my advantage to keep all my purchases within one ecosystem. You may consider adding a little walkthrough on how to use the google play store to run your app on the firetv to your page, if you guys aren't fearful of the wrath of Bezos. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who bought the firetv for the android, not the amazon.

I'm not sure what happened there for you. Extended display was the default for me. That being said, the other app could have interfered, or maybe your settings in OSX weren't correct. I wish I could help you more, but Airplay is finicky enough as it is, without adding third party software. Maybe get in touch with Sid about that.
If anyone else is interested in this, my brother managed to get airsquirrel to work with reflector on the firetv, but it seemed to be more laggy than with true airplay. I'm not sure if that was the fault of his laptop or the software, so that might be worth looking into if you're a diehard windows user like I used to be.

Has anyone been able to successfully install and use either GameSome or Hyperspin on the Nvidia Shield TV on Marshmalloe? I followed directions for Gamesome to the T, using the new beta version but every time I load the app it says merging data, and my storage/0/gamesome folder disappears every single time. I don't think I'm doing something right and I messed with it for hourd last night. I'm not gonna put anymore time into it, until I verify that either one can be run on the new MM update. These frontends are awesome, if I could get them to work. Has anyone had better luck than I?

Same happens here, soon as app loss it migrates that folder to some place. Not sure if it's a beta issue or what. I can't get it to run on marshmallow.
I've had no success with Gamesome, even switching to the 2.0 beta he is working on. I do know the dev has bought a SHIELD TV so in time things will improve we hope. I've heard people are using "Arc Browser" instead which is similar to Gamesome.
I do have an extensive Hyperspin setup (68 systems iirc) on my HTPC. I'm playing with the android version for my SHIELD TV, with a 500GB USB HDD connected as adopted storage. I have several of what I call the classic consoles (Nes,Snes,MD,32X etc.) working. They have artwork, videos playing and they launch the game almost instantly with Retroarch.
My advice would be to ensure you can play the games on the emulator first then worry about Hyperspin. The .ini files I downloaded from the guide on their website DID need editing. The ROM path proved to be the biggest hic-cup, it was very fussy over how it was set. I'll provide a few lines from my snes setup as an example to help you out. Obviously you'll need to adapt it for different systems...

Nice to see this. I'm have a very extensive hyperspin/rlauncher setup. Very helpful to those (like myself) looking to setup hs on Android. ?
I'm curious if anyone has gotten gamefly streaming to work on the shield box. Tried to sideload one method but it says it's incompatible with the device. I'm going to attempt it when I get some time, but wondering if anyone else can confirm that it's possible and working or not.
I'll take the plunge, and say no way in hell. nVIDIA in their finite wisdom have blessed the Shield with its own Streaming Service called GeForce NOW. I'm less sure exactly who, or what GameFly are. But, if a second Streaming Service were ever added behind GFN. I would hope it was Steam.
That doesn't mean all is Lost however, you could still get yourself a GTX650 (Or better!*), and stream the PC client side to the Shield using Game Stream.
Or barring the rest of it ask GameFly to add support for AndroidTV, as a hole.
*AMD/ATI Does NOT count as better
Thanks for the response, but that doesn't answer my question. I have GFN and already can stream most of my library from the PC and steam. GFN has a somewhat limited library available with it's subscription compared to Gamefly's, which is available on a simple firestick, fire TV box, smart TV, or emtec box. Obviously if it works on a firestick then just about any crapbox will do.
I get it. Nvidia shield is superior, that's why I got it. I would rather install an app on the shield to try out other available technologies that isn't proprietary to just nvidia instead of buying another box just to try it. Hence my question if anyone has successfully installed the app on the shield.

Well then I take it that it's NOT in the AndroidTV NMPlayStore then. To wit my personal advice would be to sideload it. But outta personal interest is it in the Amazon App Store? If that were the case I might try sideloading the Amazon Underground App first then if you can install it there.
If not, then I would use something like ES File Explorer to copy the *.apk to a MicroSD, or USB Stick and then install it threw ES File Explorer again, on the Shield TV. Which should be simple enough, even if it was a PitA.

Hey Man, I have the same issue that you. Did you found any solution?
Thanks in advance
I was able to download it from mirror play store, and side load it. It runs, but with no navigation from the NV TV remote or game remote. But I could use a mouse and keyboard with it. I didn't get a subscription yet to see if it will work, and it probably will with keyboard and mouse, but my assumption is if the app doesn't recognize the NV game controller to navigate, then it won't work for games as well. Didn't try a PS4 or other Bluetooth controller with it yet. If you've tried this, at all. Let me know.
I have a Fire HD8 (7th gen) that I have added Google Play store & launcher hijack thanks to this site.
Has anyone been successful finding remote control/management software to control these fire tablets from a Windows (or Linux) system?
If this can be done, I would buy a second one as a gift for an elderly relative who would not be able to set it up by herself.
In the past, I have used Teamviewer for computer to computer management, but the version I tried on my tablet appears not to allow control of the tablet, only the other way around.
A trial version of join.me allows viewing of the screen, but not take control.
I'd appreciate pointers of any other solutions I may not be aware of.
Found this thread searching for a solution to same. This is not much help, but just confirming a similar experience. I installed TeamViewer Host on my new Fire HD 10 and it supports file transfer and screen sharing only. You can move a blue pointer around on the screen remotely (for example to point at things to help the person with the tablet), but you cannot actually click on things or take over and control the tablet remotely. I have not tried join.me but sounds like it has the same limitation. My HD 10 also has Google Play store, but no launcher hijack, and no root.
Incidentally, my rooted & ROMed Fire 7 does support full TeamViewer Host functionality with remote control.

That's a bit odd actually. I would've expected the Fire 7 NOT to have the memory to support it. Team Viewer is great if you get it all working, which can be very complicated. At least I know I'm not the only one who had trouble in my HD 8. And I never seen this thread.
