GameSome and Hyperspin front end launchers.... - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to successfully install and use either GameSome or Hyperspin on the Nvidia Shield TV on Marshmalloe? I followed directions for Gamesome to the T, using the new beta version but every time I load the app it says merging data, and my storage/0/gamesome folder disappears every single time. I don't think I'm doing something right and I messed with it for hourd last night. I'm not gonna put anymore time into it, until I verify that either one can be run on the new MM update. These frontends are awesome, if I could get them to work. Has anyone had better luck than I?
Sent from my Sammy S6 using Revolution 1.0

Same happens here, soon as app loss it migrates that folder to some place. Not sure if it's a beta issue or what. I can't get it to run on marshmallow.

I've had no success with Gamesome, even switching to the 2.0 beta he is working on. I do know the dev has bought a SHIELD TV so in time things will improve we hope. I've heard people are using "Arc Browser" instead which is similar to Gamesome.
I do have an extensive Hyperspin setup (68 systems iirc) on my HTPC. I'm playing with the android version for my SHIELD TV, with a 500GB USB HDD connected as adopted storage. I have several of what I call the classic consoles (Nes,Snes,MD,32X etc.) working. They have artwork, videos playing and they launch the game almost instantly with Retroarch.
My advice would be to ensure you can play the games on the emulator first then worry about Hyperspin. The .ini files I downloaded from the guide on their website DID need editing. The ROM path proved to be the biggest hic-cup, it was very fussy over how it was set. I'll provide a few lines from my snes setup as an example to help you out. Obviously you'll need to adapt it for different systems...

Emulators thread. Emulators that are working for the Fire TV

My biggest reason for buying this was using it for emulation and I've tried countless different emulators for NES, SNES and Sega and the three I've found these three to work the best. The menus, the layout, gamepad detection and compatibility (xbox360) all work the best with it.
I did pay for all of these because they work flawlessly, Robert offers free versions as well so you can try them out.
NES: NES.emu
Super Nintendo: Snes9x EX+
Sega: MD.emu
PSX:
FPse
For the 360 pad, the triggers don't work and the back/start buttons are tied to the emulator menu and can't change them. Developer is currently working on the triggers as of last weekend when I emailed him about them being buggy.[update 7-27-2014] Still no update or email from developer. Issue still present.
ePSXe
1.9.20 was sent to me by the developer to test the triggers for the X360 gamepad and have confirmed they work. Start button is tied to emulator menu. Not that big an issue since you can just set start button to an analog click. Everything seems to be in working order.
ePSXe works fine in landscape mode. Navagating it via gamepad is fine as well unless that is untrue with the Fire TV as I have no issues doing so on my Kindle Fire HDX my only issue is no sound but that seems to work fine on the Fire TV tho from what I have been reading.
Any suggestions for Nintendo 64? I'd love one more crack at Goldeneye. :good:
The original Mupen64Plus AE or CoolN64 should be what you're looking for.
Too bad the original seldom updates nowadays.
We are waiting on either the developer Paul,or anyone else that is capable of compiling a build with the much needed fixes like Banjo-Tooie and plugin updates.
Maybe someone can ask the CoolN64 developer to add the patches that fix Banjo-Tooie and the DelaySI function as well.
Or anyone here that is source code mod savvy could make a modded version with fixes and other changes.
Why has DK64 never been fixed for Mupen64Plus AE when Wii64 (mupen64/plus port) could actually run it with collisions and level loaders intact?
Does it have to be some sort of special xbox360 controller?
My wireless controller doesn't work. And yes, I connected the cable.
My biggest problem with the emulators is I can't figure out how to get them to work via XBMC and store the roms on a network drive instead of locally on the firetv. Is anyone using the emulators this way?

that doesn't work how you think it does lmao.
The cable that plugs into the wireless doesn't send a data signal. It's sole purpose is to charge. You'll need an xbox 360 wireless adapter for PC to get it to work.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
That's just an example. You can find them cheaper on ebay but the official one is the one labeld "Microsoft". The rest are knockoffs, whether or not they will work on the Fire TV I don't know, but the official Microsoft branded one is plug and play.
Anyone else tried any more emulators? What about MAME?
Both MAME and the retroarch version work fairly well.
I played the arcade exclusive Golden Axe sequel called Revenge Of Death Adder.
Like MAME emulators always are,you have to make sure that every specific condition is correct.
Correct name, proper directory, and only when available in the given romset list.

Has anyone been able to get the Gamesome frontend Working? I would love to use that as my front end for all my emus but it glitches out and freezes on opening.
Scratch that. Installing the Google Play Services fixed it for me.
epsxe's developer sent me a beta to test on the Fire TV and the triggers for the xbox 360 gamepad are confirmed working. Even though everything is detected you'll have to manually go into the gamepad settings to map the triggers which show up as gas and brake. Also make sure they're set up in the axis controls as well.
I dunno how they compare on standard phones and all that but the interface of the epsxe tends to flow a bit better with the Fire TV and gamepad detection.
SuperGNES is the best SNES emulator. reason:- it allows dropbox synchronization. i uploaded ALL my roms to my dropbox and was able to play all the roms from there easily.
I REALLY wish that other emulators would take a cue from this - if i could find a N64 or a PSP emulator that sync's with my GDrive or Dropbox or even my Skydrive i would be REALLY happy
Anyone try SCUMMVM? I've never tried it on Android, but I'd assume it would be optimized for touch devices. Would be quite awesome to get some old school adventure games on the Fire TV.
Retroarch can be gotten directly from the Play Store when on Fire TV.
This is the first time you see me praising Retroarch since I hate the god-awful controls/lack of proper input mapping such as rewind and fastforward mappings as well as not having console specific mappings to make things easier,but,SNES9x Next with the retropad overlay for quick fastforward plus the Retroarch exclusive ->rewind<- access and the shader on 1pass 4xBR using 4x resolution makes the perfect combination!
Is there any way to use cheats on Retroarch?
If not, then please add it,developers of Retroarch.
At least on the lower systems like NES,SNES,Genesis.
I still really wish there was another N64 Core to choose from like 1964 or Daedalus.

Newest Custom Version of RetroArch
This is the best variation of RetroArch Available. Its a custom build that has more cores and more functions than the Google play store version.
My only issue is that my controller configuration with my DS4 controller will not save or stick for any reason. Maybe you guys can figure it out.
http://page3.yunfile.com/fs/1Craim2so3nR7ai0nde4/
Also Drastic (Nintendo DS EMU) Works FANTASTIC!
Also shoutout to the guy that talked about OpenBOR. Im freaking loving that game app! I've even been playing 2 players with Tincore Keymapper.
Here's the newest compiled file for OpenBOR (V.4074) with PS3 Button mapping to select items from the main menu below
Anyone try getting dolphin on this?
Ask Qualcomm to fix their shiddy processors so Dolphin can actually run on it.
I went between versions that crash immediately before the menu, and the emucr builds that open, but never start the game.
Instead, you get a grey screen until exiting the app.
I did manage to get one ancient version to almost start while the touch controls even appeared.
It may have actually started running the game, but with the black screen issue known to be caused by Qualcomm.
I just cannot find the OpenGL 2.0 ARM build of Dolphin to test on a Linux Distro inside VNC.
I really wished they ported the version with OpenGL 2.0 to Android instead.

CM12 Installed w/ Ouya Everywhere experience so far.

Thanks to Unjustified Dev for the hard work in porting CM12 over to the M.O.J.O.!
A lot of people have been wanting to update their M.O.J.O. for various reasons. Some have had more trouble than others getting through certain steps and there were just some other lingering questions about apps that are compatible. Here are the steps I took have my M.O.J.O. running CM12 w/ Ouya Everywhere and resolve the overscan issue that some people (including myself) are encountering.
INSTALL & SETUP
1) After initial setup. Performed the official update
2) I did not have the Male to Male USB cable, there for I side loaded TowelRoot.apk (Version 1. Not version 3 from the main site.), and successfully rooted this way.
3) Installed SuperSU
4) After rooting and installing SuperSU I installed Flashify (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify&hl=en), and backed up the kernel and recovery. Followed by, moving them to the SD card to avoid accidental delete.
5) Used Flashify to flash TWRP 2.8.2.0 recovery. Obtained image here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57508890&postcount=1
6) I placed the latest build, recommended gapps onto an sd card from the CM12 page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...52&postcount=1
7) I used "Flashify" to enter recovery mode and followed the installation instructions from the CM12 page.
8) After installation and setup I installed the updated OuyaApks I posted here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6&postcount=51
9) Enable root – Go to Settings, About Tablet, click on “Build number” 7 times to enable developer settings, back to pervious screen, Developer Options, click on Root access and make selection. – *Thanks to mrbill1357*
10) Re-Install SuperSU
11) From here is up to you.
Common Q&A I received…
Q: Is Ouya Everywhere compatible with CyanogenMod 12?
A: Yes, build 1.2.897 currently.
Q: How do I get my Ouya Exclusive games back on the M.O.J.O.?
A: Backup the Ouya exclusive games on the Ouya and Restore them on the M.O.J.O. Ouya Everywhere will still recognize the game and work properly.
Q: Is there a fix for the overscan/underscan problem on the M.O.J.O.?
A: Yes, but not on the Jelly Bean build. General apps that manage overscan only work on Kit Kat or higher unless the application is specifically targeting a device. More detailed answer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59418974&postcount=7
Q: Where can I get an onscreen keyboard where I don’t use the mouse to press each key?
A: Leanback Keyboard - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...65&postcount=1
Q: How are you installing applications to the USB drive by default?
A: Xposed Installer (Alpha2) and XInternalSD
Q: Google Play says ‘XYZ’ isn’t compatible.
A: Most (not all) are actually compatible. If you don’t know how to reconfigure Google Play (like me) just side load the app using another market like “1 Mobile Market” or “Amazon Appstore”.
As I did with the Ouya running CM11 w/ Ouya Everywhere here is my initial assessment.
Experience.
- Stability! Despite the next section, both Jelly Bean and Lollipop needs a little tinkering and setup before you are ready to go, but on Lollipop it appeared to be a smoother process once installed.
- My biggest disappointment was FIFA15 not working after reading the articles stating the game was going to work with the M.O.J.O.
- Controller Supported Games tested so far that are working: (Vector Unit, Ouya, Sega, BandaiNamco) BBRacing, Neon Shadow, Riptide GP2, Sonic4 epII, SoulCalibur, Tennis in the Face, and Zen Pinball. (Note: Have not tested games that need mapping yet.)
- Emulators are working perfectly. Wasn’t expecting there to be any issues here.
- Media Apps. All that I have used on the Ouya carried over and work nicely on the M.O.J.O. I’m Currently using CBS, NBC, FOX NOW, Watch ABC, CW, PBS Kids, UVideos, History, WatchESPN, GINIKO TV, SPB TV, Viewster, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Kodi
Current Issues I’m experiencing.
- Ouya Everywhere works, but is unable to install the application after download from the discovery store. The user must exit back out to CM12 and install manually after download. Also Ouya games/apps that are downloaded but not installed by Ouya everywhere will maintain a dimmed tile on the play menu (Side loaded Ouya games/apps will appear normally). This may be due to the structure of the lollipop framework for I didn’t see any rights issues with superuser. Still investigating.
- YouTube for Google TV no longer works (even though it state compatible). You will lose this ability but regular YouTube works fine.
- Gameloft games don’t work on Lollipop! Games will install, but when starting all is displayed is the loading icon. I’m not sure on the reason for this (May have something to do with XInternalSD). Other non-Gameloft games include Skiing Fred.
- Periodic ejection of the SD Card –
Case 1) The SD Card port depending on its use will occasionally eject and re-establish without warning (not physically). This happens more often when some apps or associated files are moved to the SD card and/or with card slower than Class 10.
Case 2) If A USB Hub is in use on the 2.0 port in conjunction with some apps or associated files in use on the USB drive, the device will occasionally eject and re-establish resulting in the running app to crash.
- Some games experience overscan, some aren’t properly aligned, some experience both. Surprisingly this is only occurring with games. I have not run into this issue with any media applications. Another overscan app I’m trying is “UI Tuner” (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bassel.uituner&hl=en) where I can specify resolution and/or overscan correction per application, but the service currently doesn’t seem to have any effect. (Games I have trouble with are “Zen Pinball HD” (alignment) and “BB Racing” (Overscan))
Yep, this pretty much sums up the experience. Also, foldermount still has a glitch at least for me but overall much better than stock OS. I wish my Ethernet connection would work forfor playing online in Gameloft games.

So you have been able to play Gameloft game successfully on CM12? If so, which ones? I've been trying to get Asphalt 8 and NOVA3 among others.
Yea Ive been playing MC5, Asphalt 8, and Dungeon Hunter 5. Online for those games needs Wi Fi to work but my connection is poor. I can still play them just doing single player.
Cm5 works fine for me also.
Good how to post.
I have nova3 also but havent bothered.,. They dropped controller support last year.,... Crappy I know
regarding the overscan problems, has this affected the emulators or kodi in anyway, that is my only concern, and did you find a solution to the sd card constantly ejecting? did you get the same issue when connecting a usb drive or portable usb hard drive to the console?
that is a deciding factor if i will install lollipop on the mojo or not, i've also read that lolipop have performance issues on phones, does lolipop have issues on the mojo like lag or crashes?
Well from what I've experienced lollipop has a lot of performance issues on the MOJO. A lot of crashes and bugs when I launch apps or play games. I barley play games on my MOJO anyway because each time I try I can't, but at least the MOJO is not dead like the OUYA.
Still don't waste money and buy a MOJO : (

From what i researched of the console in the past couple of days (which wasn't easy with so limited info out there for the console) and as a retro machine and the fact it's so cheap now it's pretty hard NOT to resist, with the Android shield tv not making a appearance in the uk i don't have the patience to wait around forever for any news or progress for something that may not ever release here.

I feel you man, I've been trying to work with cm12 for a while now and the lag is unbarable, chrome won't open and is stuck at the acept and continue screen and is completely unresponsive, I'm thinking of downgrading back to 4.2.2 so the mojo is at least useable, i can't play any games with the lag like this.
Also the good games in the play store show up as incompatible, so it makes it hard for me to actually play games that I want to play. These problems would never happen on PS3 or xbox 360.

The overscan has not affected emulators and defiantly not Kodi since you can re-configure the overscan in the video settings. I've hooked a 1TB drive to the 3.0 port with a Thumb Drive in the 2.0 port and 8GB micro SD card. All functioned perfectly. Since the SD card issue, I've used the SD card for just storage instead of installing apps, and have not run into the ejection issue since. Hope this helps.

Dim icons
I found a hack for the dimmed icons w/ OuyaEverywhere and CM12.0 (I haven't tried CM12.1 but will do that on the new home theater MOJO).
Don't use Ouya DISCOVER to install games.
1.) Search for "Ouya apk download" and download the games you want. I found them @
www_totalouya_com /apps-and-games/
2.) IN THE OUYA LAUNCHER (or else the games/apps may not show up in the ouya menu) go to MAKE>PROGRAMS and launch your favorite file explorer (tested w/ ES file explorer).
3.) In the explorer, browse to where you downloaded the .apk's or your external drive where they are and click or select one and when prompted choose install.
4.) Lather, rinse, repeat.
5.) When finished installing .apk's go to your Ouya PLAY menu and find all your games non-greyed and playable from the PLAY menu even after closing Ouya or rebooting.
I found this after I would use Ouya DISCOVER to install games they would be playable and non-greyed immediately after install but would be greyed and unplayable after shutting down OuyaEverywhere or rebooting the MOJO and re-launching Ouya.
I wiped and re-installed CM12 and the OuyaEverywhere .apk's, tried installing 2 games (Sonic4 and BombSquad) from DISCOVER, rebooted and found the same result.
Then I installed more games using the method above, rebooted, and they were still in Ouya PLAY menu un-greyed and playable.
For games that are already installed via DISCOVER and are greyed an uninstall from game's menu and then using the procedure above to re-install SOMETIMES works (BombSquad=yes, Sonic4=no), but will still result in a greyed icon.
This worked for me in my situation and it's just another trick to try if you experience the same.
Links are dead re-upload everything please

[Q] - Best setup for NP using KODI??

I am setting up a media streaming device for someone who isn't tech savvy but wants to use NP for movies/tv/Netflix.. What are the best basic settings/config for using NP with Kodi and Netflix? They may or may not use external usb or mouse/keyboard.
5.1.1? Android M preview 3?
Rooted?
TWRP?
Custom Rom? CM12 / other??
**UPDATE**
Here is what I did which seems to work great:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Flashed TWRP
- Flashed 6.0 firmware (fugu) from Google's site
- Kodi installed from google play.
- Used “http://fusion.tvaddons.ag” addon to help with installing/updating streams. Selected "hubwizard" and "addoninstaller" under "start-here" directory to get basic addons/content/features working.
- Saw an issue with constant buffering. Used: Programs > Maintenance Tool > System Tweaks > Zero Cache (Yes when menu popped up). This expands the space where the download is stored, allowing a longer buffer than default. So you can pause a slow loading tv show/movie and let it load so you dont have viewing issues.
- Enabled Autoplay option on Genesis settings which is easier than searching thru the links provided.
- Added the xml file shown here so that I could use the Play/Pause button as a "right-click" option when content isn't playing.
Let me know if there is anything else I can change to make things run smoother. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the set up.
didn't see any response so I kept digging and came up with this...
- Using stock 5.1.1 from the standard update. Waiting until M preview is in a more final state.
- Kodi installed from google play.
- Installed “http://fusion.tvaddons.ag” addon to help with installing/updating streams. Help link here.
- Installed Genesis and Phoenix right away for basic content.
- Saw an issue with constant buffering. Used the TV Addon program to "Clear Cache" and enabled "Zero Cache". This expands the space where the download is stored, allowing a longer buffer than default. So you can pause a slow loading tv show/movie and let it load so you dont have viewing issues.
This seemed to get content streaming pretty good, but I could use any additional tips to make it better.

I used TVAddons for a long time, on Ouya, an HTPC, and the Nexus Player. But I have recently been using The Beast by Chris B http://chrisbkodi.uk
I installed on my NP with this method: Install Kodi from the Play Store. Go to System>File Manager>Add Source type http://spartanpixel.net/repo click OK
Go to System>Addons>Install From Zip , select repo as the source, then select the zip and click OK. Wait about 10-15 seconds, you should see a message that the wizard has been installed.
Go to Programs, and select the config wizard. You should see the option of installing two different builds: The Beast or Spartan. I have tried both, I don't know what the major differences are other than the skin for Spartan is pretty cool. It's going to take a few minutes to install, so don't worry if it's slow and you will see another install progress bar after the first one finishes. After the entire process is done, you will get a message saying that installation is complete. So click OK, now THIS part is VERY important: The next message will say that you need to force shutdown Kodi, DO NOT click the button saying to go ahead and shut down. You will need to actually pull the power cord out from the back of the Nexus Player, and then plug it back in. Wait for it to boot up, go to Kodi and you should now see The Beast splash video. Everything will be configured for you, but you may want to go in and disable the adult stuff if you dont want it, and get rid of anything else that you dont want. I find some of the IPTV stuff is a little difficult to work with so I dont use much of it.
The only other thing I have done is go into Video settings, and set it to sync to my display refresh rate. You will also want to use ES File Explorer to upload a keymapping xml for the remote. https://www.dropbox.com/s/c1r944j93oj8sq6/nexus_remote.xml?dl=0

Guys, I follows this and went with the xbmc repo, a lot of the channels are dead.
How do I install Genesis?
Also, how do I undo what I did? Uninstall fusion and start from scratch. I'd like to try some other builds above.

Rooted?
TWRP?
Custom Rom? CM12 / other??

didn't see any response so I kept digging and came up with this...

Guys, I follows this and went with the xbmc repo, a lot of the channels are dead.
How do I install Genesis?
Also, how do I undo what I did? Uninstall fusion and start from scratch. I'd like to try some other builds above.

Go to your Programs section in Kodi, there is a Fresh Start option that the fusion installer should have added. Run that and it should put you back to vanilla Kodi.
If you are able to side load, and you want the TV Addons build, maybe try side loading TVMC you should be able to put the APK on a thumb drive and access via ES File Explorer, be sure to enable Unknown Sources in Android.
One combo that worked well for me was side loading SPMC and then running the fusion installer.

Follow the instructions above for Fusion.
Select Lambda repo zip for Genesis
Select XBMChub zip for TVAddons (Phoenix)
Setting up the pirate side of Kodi for somebody else with no knowledge of the world you are getting them into is a bad deal for you. These pirate addons are not for the uninitiated. They are unreliable at best. Make sure you are willing to be their continual tech support. In the past 45 days or so everything mentioned in the thread have undergone some catastrophic failure or complete relaunch. Make sure you teach your friend how this stuff works so there are no unrealistic expectations of availability or reliability.

Maybe with the Live TV feeds they are. But Genesis is fairly rock solid. I can do without the others (for the most part).
Loaded THE BEAST.
I really like the interface (large fonts; cool backdrop images) for KODI.
I just had to turn off every other section but the main MOVIES/SPORTS/LIVE TV sections though because it's so laden with adult content links.
I wish it would come more like stock (without all the adult) and a wizard to add on the adult stuff if people desire.
Otherwise, it has been stable.
The LIVE TV links are still very hit and miss with THE BEAST.

still debating on rooting the nexus player, I downloaded the kodi app, and installed kodimaster? (not sure of exact repo) but I did read about the the beast repo being pretty solid as well. I think for the most part I'm happy with the nexus player at $24.98 and the kodi app does pretty much everything I need it to do with movies & shows. I still have more to learn with live tv, nfl network, and what else itll provide

Rooting is a toss-up.
If you want to keep 5.0, then you need to root.
If you want Marshmallow, then do not root right now.
Root and flashing to older images (if needed for whatever reason) is pretty straight-forward.
Tons of guides on the internet/Youtube.
Live TV is hit or miss.
With movies and shows on Genesis, play is fine unless I pick a bad stream. Then, the data feed is too slow to keep up and the show/movie pauses/buffers.
Last night, though, I wanted to check the score of the game, so I loaded ESPN from cCloudTV. It was buffering every 5 seconds. Basically unwatchable.
Not sure if it was due to the stream (# of people streaming = low data feed) and/or my connection speed (20 mbps). But live TV does not really "buffer" like movies/shows as it is not a DVR, so when it buffers, the live action wants to catch up, so you get skips/stutters, etc.
Likewise, I do not know if I'm missing addons or the streams are not reliable, but channel surfing is not really reliable. I get error messages that I need to check the log.
I got Kodi setup with all the 'free' stuff = thanks to this thread.
I am trying to add my own local content, but when I go to add the SMB share, I can see all the computers on my network, I can select my home server (windows 8.1), but after I select it, I get an error and I cannot connect to the share.
My windows based Kodi setup finds my server just fine and I can add the seperate shares with no issues. Anyone else experience this issue on the NP?
i definitely need to do the play/pause right click mod
I was able to setup a SQL server and one HTPC a firetv and my new nexus player are able to connect. no issues.
I gave up on garbage Kodi, everyone tells me how great it is well, if you mean about 30 minutes searching through dozens and dozens of stupid streams to get one that will actually play and not buffer, then yeah works great. I was told, use autoplay then you won't have that issue, well, I turned on autoplay and stupid POS still didn't work, either the video wouldn't play/buffer/stutter, or it just wouldn't load any streams at all. Also kept getting cache was full errors constantly so I gave up and went back to simple easier torrents.

Start out with a fresh copy of Kodi 15.2 then add all the sources for repos(srp.nu, tvaddons.ag, etc.). Then install all the repos. And Then install all the add-ons from the repos you just installed. Then load elmerohueso' s repo from fusion so you can use his helix ++ skin (it allows you to use "any" 7 icons under "any" of the main screen sections (pictures,videos,music,..etc). This way you have access to all the addons add-ons you want without any of the stuff you don't.

Alternatives to ccloud: You need to install dextertv(plays live tv really well even on 3mbs time warner connection but you need to sign in with a valid email- I just use a temp email generator easily found on google search), and UFO stalker clone(youtube kraz inabox) or i4ATV which are both stalker clones and play over 800 channels really well without buffering. Google search, DexterTV, Kraz inabox, newtechevotution, Joenobody010101, husham memar, soloman for awesome turorials on the latest greatest add-ons

Get a micro usb to regular usb hub and insert a zip drive with the content you want and then transfer it from the zip drive to kodi by using file explorer you can download from the play store. With the hub you can also install a keyboard/track pad combo like the logitect k400 keyboard (ususally on sale for 19.99) and its makes using/navigating kodi or the nexus player much easier.

I disagree about kodi being garbage. It's awesome software. If you were Genesis...make sure to clear cache and sources from within genesis tools section. Autoplay does work but you need to configure the streams you prefer from the information section of genesis. Also make sure you're on version 5.1.4. Some of rhe other great add-ons: phoenix, primewire/one channel, SALTS, projectfreetv, navix, movie night, movied hd, ...etc. With a decent connection all of these addons feature great content and have search functiions to find whatever you're looking for. STAY away from torrents. They provide way less anonymity than you might think...

Don't despair. I've some good news for you. Unlike cable companies, which you are obliged to subscribe to if you live in a certain area (Laissez-faire at its best), no one has to use the POS called Kodi. And no one will do bad things to you if you don't. You always have the choice of forking out a hundred bucks or more a month for the rubbish that would stream flawlessly on your tv (Freedom at its best - where you consistently get 15 minutes of consumerism-driven "information" out of a 25-minute program) if you can't stand the minimal work one has to put in for the stuff you get for free and whose content you totally control.
I'm sure the people who designed the POS (your opinion) did the best they could, and do not get justly compensated for it. What you said don't sound really appreciative of it to me.
Maybe can help
I using this ROM pure nexus 6.0 from dhacker29 http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/development/rom-pure-nexus-t3260232
As well after all done, download kodi from the play store and them follow this threat http://www.geek.com.do/mejores-fuentes-repositorios-kodi-xbmc/ ah sorry its is Spanish, use Google translate
I just did the whole Kodi install thing with the repos that the kids are selling these days on Ebay for like $80+ installed on a Amazon Firestick. Pretty funny that they are making money off of doing that. I only found out about that from my friend who actually paid $$ for one of those and decided to research it and attempted to do it on my NPlayer.
I agree with @ninerpride somewhat. While I don't think it's Kodi that is "garbage", its more the streams fault. It DOES get annoying attempting to go down the list to try and find a stream that actually plays. @graphdarnell, I concur with you, my Time Warner cable bill is over $100 USD and I get nothing for it. I'm always looking for ways to cut the cord and get out of this because the bill just keeps going up every year.
I heard that Genesis, etc is no longer being supported because the DEV found out about the "hacker kids" selling his work on Ebay pre-loaded onto those Amazon Firesticks. Anyone hear the same? Someone suggested to instead install "SALTS" but while it's much better, it's still annoying trying to find a stream that works.
Using the BEAST build installed from AresWizard.cok.uk/zip and it's been great so far. Phoenix based and most of the content is decent. Live TV is pretty good. Best I've used for KODI so far

Just thought of a brilliant idea!!

Im just mentioning this on the off chance someone hasnt already thought of it and it may not even be possible anyway. If a dev ported the shield tablet firmware to the shield tv then maybe we could have full access to the library of games the tablet offers with gamepad functionality already built in. If not is there a way we can trick the playstore into thinking the shield tv is a shield tablet and let you install the tablet modified games to check if they work without any mods. NOVA 3 anyone.....
Actually you can install applications on a Rooted Device. But the problem is the Shield Controller.
I tried installing apps but i was unable to control it. I believe it may require some configuration
I would like this as well. There are many touch only games. I use Droidmote and like it(love it) but in my family I am the only one that takes time to load the server and click start, load the client, set the gamepadtotouch/touchpad, load profile, connect the client to 127.0.0.1, set the keyboard to droidmoteime then play the game I picked. Then if I choose another game reload a profile, if I have it. Then play the game.
Most of the time I just say forget it and only play controller enabled games. Sometimes I just want to play a game and move on.
It would be nice if the process was more automated. I am not sure if the tablet OS makes the process easier but it would be nice to see if it would work.
I have researched loading the tablet firmware some but I am hesitant to try it since I have the 500GB STV and do not want to wait 2 hours between firmware loads to try it out. One day I may purchase the 16GB to play around with. Maybe I will find a good used one on CL and give it a whirl.
ive tried usuing market helper to spoof android to android shield tablet and download NOVA 3 but did not work, and i have tried the custom roms with full android not 'android tv' support and i can use sixaxis bluetooth wirless with my ps3 pad but the right analog stick wont move correctly even when configured yet every other control i am able to map successfully. i dont know what to try next....

Sideload Portal

I'm trying to install portal sideloaded, but it keeps giving me an error. I installed the app and placed the folder with the obb files in Android/obb
I want to try it out before I buy it, curious how well it works on shield. Looking for some good games that don't require a $8 subscription to eforce.
It looks like Portal on the pc at 1080p without antialiasing and I'm guessing the trilinear filtering at best. You don't get mods, it's 5 hours of gameplay at best, but it's classic and still fun. Basically the question is, how much do you want to give your non gamer friends some puzzles on the TV, maybe for a drinking game or family get together?
It would be a slam dunk of a deal if it was both portal games or if it supported mods, but it's not and it doesn't.
Just fix up an old system in your basement and use gamestream to get the pc version wireless streaming and you will probably be just as happy.
Shield experience games don't pirate as easily as some other titles.
Make sure you are not connected to the internet, then it shoukd work , I just tried it.
