Asus Zenfone Downgrade to an older firmware. - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have finally created an account after many threads and I need help with a question I couldn't find by myself the answer, my device is the Zenfone 5 A501CG, T00J, 2Gb Ram, 8Gb Internal Storage, Cpu 1.6 Ghz
I'd like to know if I can donwgrade from firmware WW_3.24.40.87 to WW_3.24.40.78 by flashing the firmware or any other possible way.
If not then if maybe it is possible to downgrade to Kitkat from Lollipop (possible normally by a firmware released by ASUS) and then update to Lollipop firmware WW_3.24.40.78.

Flash recovery and fastboot from 2.22.40.54, enter in recovery and sideload 3.24.40.78 firmware.

Advanced way to do it: (may not be working on lollipop roms btw, tested on kitkat .54)
You can do it manually as well from fastboot, extract fastboot.img, ifwi.zip and boot.img then flash fastboot, dnx, ifwi, boot.img then sideload the whole zip.
Easy way to do it: Use downgrade kit provided by asus (5.x.x.x).
Btw .87 is better than .78 imo, why you need to downgrade?

Hello,
Yes it is possible to downgrade from an official Molitor to an official kitkat (the latest).
I do it, when the flash is end and the mobile show the logo Samsung
You can put out the battery, reboot to the recovery and wipe all user data.
Before do that save all your data.
It's an official administrator from Samsung who say me do so.
Hope that can help you.

Isn't the bootloader required to flash the ROM?
I'm very afraid of trying stock lollipop. I was on Temasek's CM12 build but I had abysmal batterylife. This was probably not attributed to Temasek's build but rather to CM12 as a whole, so I went back to my nandroid containing Crash Rom V19 on kitkat 4.4.2 and I literally have less than 1% drain per hour with the phone idle. I love this batterylife, and I feel I'd like to try and see if stock lollipop TW will give me the same but I would like the option to go back to kitkat if it's worse. I like lollipop a lot but the promise of batterylife seems to hit and miss, makes me stay on kitkat.
I know Crash Rom has a lollipop version, but beside this, which ROM is the MOST stock with the least amount of modifications?

[Q] Firmware (Modem)

Hi,
Currently my baseband version is N9005XXUDMJ4. Do I need to update (modem etc.) for Android 5.1? I want to use Temasek's unofficial build. If yes, where can I get an up-to-date version that I can flash with Odin?
BTW: This is an Austrian phone.
Update to a lollipop based baseband is the best way for zero issues in future. Yes you can flash by odin, but if your system and bootloader is kitkat. Why not flash a comlete Firmware? Thats the best way..... there are lots of links @ " general" forum .called how to..... blabla lollipop und so weiter.
Thanks, found a link for updating modem and bootloader, but decided to download the full firmware from sammobile. I'll flash a custom rom immediately thereafter, though.

830LC stock firmware with LTE version needed

Anybody got the stock firmware for 830LC with LTE version? Or do you know where to download?
Thank you.
Try to look at needrom.com. Also look here as some topics are related to 830LC and contain links or howto's, for example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63308879
if what you need is the stock rom of the kitkat one it was already given to you
i have no knowledge of an available (YET) official lollipop stock rom for your model, but going up to Lollipop can always be done by taking the OTA after a KitKat stock rom flash, so this is not an issue if you are on KitKat
the problem is when your tab is already on Lollipop and you want to go back to stock KitKat (to stay there or to take the Lollipop OTA), if you just flash the KitKat rom you will softbrick on the first reboot after flashing kitkat because your tab would try to boot a kitkat system from a lollipop leftover initialisation system, this can be solved too with some minimal effort/knowledge but as you told already you don't know how to use a terminal so i would suggest that you keep waiting (or just play a little to learn a minimal knowledge of android flashing tools).
or wait some more so i somebody will pack an all-in-one flash stock KitKat rom package for your model with the bios downgrade (Lollipop to KitKat) included
i don't think Lenovo would ever release a KitKat stock rom flashable directly from Lollipop (this would go against their upgrade/one way policy)
Thnaks pal, you've save my day

Question on variants

I apologize if this was answered elsewhere but I have read and researched every thread and my brain is in a bootloop about variants. I have the retus version SKU xt1687 (4gb ram/ 64gb) and want to flash an updated stock rom. I'm on the NPN 137 - 33 build and still have the January security patch. I just can't find out and am confused as to which firmwares are compatible and safe to flash in twrp.
1. Which builds are definitely compatible with US variants so the phone stays compatible and stays on retus channel?
2. Can I flash the zip directly in twrp as I have done with every other phone I have had in the past or do I have to do a fastboot command sequence after unzipping the file?
Edit: ooops... I think I know the answer to this that you have to have stock recovery to flash any of the stock roms.. Am I right?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I've figured out that I can flash in fastboot the *35 firmware with all the fastboot commands. My bootloader is unlocked and I'm on stock recovery. Can anyone confirm this? I think I need to flash this before updating to the *35-5 update or can I just flash straight to *35-5? Should I play it safe and just wait it out for an OTA?

is it possible to downgrade SM-G950F?

Hello,
Is there a way to dowgrade the bootloader of SM-G950F with stock fw G950FXXUCDUD1 to further flash a stock fw Android 8?
- flashing a downgraded bl with twrp?
- with "combination" fw?
- with a modified stock bl flashed with Odin?
...?
Thank you!
No. Samsung will not allow flashing of lower bootloader versions numbers.
Hello, thank you for your answer.
Even with a combination fw or directly flashing an older bootloader with twrp?
No.
Combination roms follow stock firmware regarding bootloader version ( can't downgrade). TWRP is a recovery image to replace stock, You can do more things in twrp over stock except downgrade stock firmware.

Ok, but what about this thread which seems to say it's doable with combination roms?
(Method) For everyone who wants to Downgrade Galaxy S8 to Oreo/Nougat
Hey guys! I recently read many Questions About downgrading the Galaxy S8 to 7.0/8.0 after we got the 5x Bootloader. Well many of you say NO but What many of you forgot is that there is a way to Downgrade your phone. I already had that Problem...
forum.xda-developers.com
I've seen many guides on how to downgrade stock firmware. Most of them revolve around editing stock firmware. None of them mention whether the bootloader version was actually downgraded. To me personally you are essentially trying to install a custom type rom using by using stock firmware.

I checked and you're right. The minimal configuration for flashing the bl is a tar with cm.bin and sboot.bin and this leads to the usual error "... check fail(cm) device : x binary : y" (whatever odin version used... patched or stock)
reverse engineering sboot and cm.bin and changing the binary release doesn't help because the code is signed and verified by the PBL from the ROM.
The only way to do it should be to connect to the exynos jtag / uart / ? and to reverse engineering the soc (!) modifying the way the PBL check the SBOOT.
Adam Outler a researcher did it on GalaxyS (1 or 2!) more than ten year ago... (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-hack-hardware-binary-and-bend-it-to-your-will.1338073/)
So... I think is doable with a lot of talent and patience...
Anyway, thank you for your help!
