Question on variants - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I apologize if this was answered elsewhere but I have read and researched every thread and my brain is in a bootloop about variants. I have the retus version SKU xt1687 (4gb ram/ 64gb) and want to flash an updated stock rom. I'm on the NPN 137 - 33 build and still have the January security patch. I just can't find out and am confused as to which firmwares are compatible and safe to flash in twrp.
1. Which builds are definitely compatible with US variants so the phone stays compatible and stays on retus channel?
2. Can I flash the zip directly in twrp as I have done with every other phone I have had in the past or do I have to do a fastboot command sequence after unzipping the file?
Edit: ooops... I think I know the answer to this that you have to have stock recovery to flash any of the stock roms.. Am I right?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I've figured out that I can flash in fastboot the *35 firmware with all the fastboot commands. My bootloader is unlocked and I'm on stock recovery. Can anyone confirm this? I think I need to flash this before updating to the *35-5 update or can I just flash straight to *35-5? Should I play it safe and just wait it out for an OTA?

Few questions on TWRP install and 6.0 flashing

Hi all, I wanted to get some info on this topic, I have done allot of searching/reading and still have a bit of confusion. Currently I have a SGH-I337 AT&T S4 that is running 5.0.1 that I rooted. I want to update to the custom 6.0 ROM, which I downloaded from the JDC Team along with Gapps and superSU 2.52. I am going to follow the directions on their thread, but my issue is flashing the latest correct version of TWRP. I am able to boot into recovery and when Im flashing the TWRP version they have on their site (recovery, flash from SD, TWRP-2.8.7.2-F2FS.ZIP) I get a footer and authenticate error. Im assuming this version of TWRP is not compatible with this ver. S4? Or is there another way I have to flash it to the phone. Please point me to a thread that has the steps to do this if possible.

Your phone has the newer bootloader which is locked. Only variants with older bootloader, mdl and mdb will be able to flash twrp.
You can still use flashfire but your options are limited and marshmallow isn't one of them.

Currently I have the same phone and carrier...
If you are still interested in a custom recovery our only option is SafeStrap Recovery, you might want to check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925. I was able to install SafeStrap and utilize NC1 Flasher to facilitate booting into SafeStrap Recovery with no problems whatsoever. Once you have SafeStrap Recovery operational on your phone you can also flash custom TouchWiz ROM's.
I hope that helps and, I'm far from an expert but, don't hesitate asking any questions!

stock rom .zip file for sideload through recovery? XT1625 Prime Edition

there's no a way to install stock rom for Moto G4 16 gb prime Edition through sideload in recovery mode (adb)?
i had installed nougat update from india and now i'm stuck in recovery mode. So.. i can't send my phone right now to US and i trying to find a way to recover my phone from this
I can't do a downgrade to MM because of nougat.
So, give me some ideas
Somebody could make a backup of their nougat's rom and upload it?
I am in the same boat (mostly because I am a moron, and thought I had unlocked my bootloader when I hadn't).
If anyone sees the amazon prime xt1625 nougat floating around you will be my hero.

You need a TWRP backup of the nougat ROM?
Try to find a thread with the stock AMZ firmware, then install that. Updates will have to be re-installed, but it should unbrick your moto

Rooting / TWRP

Heyyo, Slenderman8090 here! I am currently on the newest firmware build that Verizon Sent out. I am downgrading so I can flash/root OB6 Firmware. TWRP doesn't seem to want to flash via ODIN, but I keep getting an AUTH error on ODIN. I am a 3 Year patron of XDA/General Development, and I am not familiar with Verizon and it's lockdowns. So, what ever I can do, please let me know.
Thanks so much,
Slenderman8090
EDIT:
I HAVE FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX IT, NOW AROMA DOESN'T WORK ON MY TWRP, WHAT VERSION IS NEEDED?

As far as everything I've been able to keep up with and read, in order for our Verizon (hltevzw) Galaxy Note 3 phones to be bootloader unlocked with a properly functioning TWRP recovery that also handles AROMA files as well, TWRP v2.8.7.0 (4.4 (the Verizon "hltevzw" variant), is the correct/proper variant that you'll need to flash onto your phone instead of the version that you've got currently. Also, it apparently doesn't matter at all whether or not you've already got a newer version of TWRP recovery installed, any newer version after v2.8.7.0 can't flash AROMA. So since you want to flash AROMA files, TWRP v2.8.7.0 (4.4) is apparently the last official version to be released which supports AROMA. I'm not sure why it didn't carry on into newer releases, but I'm sure the devs had a good enough reason for not doing so.

Bricked my dad's N900W8 (various questions)

I've flashed and root several android phones before and this time I kind a messed up, trying to flash the Enoxys version of the Android 7.1 onto my N900W8 (turns out it was Snapdragon? which. I was able to flash TWRP on the phone and when I try to flash the actual ROM on it, it failed at partitioning the data in ext4. I can probably grab a stock rom (although most of the links are dead now) and flash over it.
My questions:
Does anyone still have the N900 LTE modem that can be flash on N900W8?
Has anyone able to flash the US/Canada varian straight to international version?
Most of the links that I found on the forum for stock firmware had been dead, is there a current "up-to-date" spot to grab the firmware for this old phone?

Firmware updato.com or sammobile.com

is it possible to downgrade SM-G950F?

Hello,
Is there a way to dowgrade the bootloader of SM-G950F with stock fw G950FXXUCDUD1 to further flash a stock fw Android 8?
- flashing a downgraded bl with twrp?
- with "combination" fw?
- with a modified stock bl flashed with Odin?
...?
Thank you!
No. Samsung will not allow flashing of lower bootloader versions numbers.
Hello, thank you for your answer.
Even with a combination fw or directly flashing an older bootloader with twrp?
No.
Combination roms follow stock firmware regarding bootloader version ( can't downgrade). TWRP is a recovery image to replace stock, You can do more things in twrp over stock except downgrade stock firmware.

Ok, but what about this thread which seems to say it's doable with combination roms?
(Method) For everyone who wants to Downgrade Galaxy S8 to Oreo/Nougat
Hey guys! I recently read many Questions About downgrading the Galaxy S8 to 7.0/8.0 after we got the 5x Bootloader. Well many of you say NO but What many of you forgot is that there is a way to Downgrade your phone. I already had that Problem...
forum.xda-developers.com
I've seen many guides on how to downgrade stock firmware. Most of them revolve around editing stock firmware. None of them mention whether the bootloader version was actually downgraded. To me personally you are essentially trying to install a custom type rom using by using stock firmware.

I checked and you're right. The minimal configuration for flashing the bl is a tar with cm.bin and sboot.bin and this leads to the usual error "... check fail(cm) device : x binary : y" (whatever odin version used... patched or stock)
reverse engineering sboot and cm.bin and changing the binary release doesn't help because the code is signed and verified by the PBL from the ROM.
The only way to do it should be to connect to the exynos jtag / uart / ? and to reverse engineering the soc (!) modifying the way the PBL check the SBOOT.
Adam Outler a researcher did it on GalaxyS (1 or 2!) more than ten year ago... (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-hack-hardware-binary-and-bend-it-to-your-will.1338073/)
So... I think is doable with a lot of talent and patience...
Anyway, thank you for your help!
