!!Help!!SMS/MMS will only send ON Wifi!! - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 that I originally got from South Korea unlocked and have been using it in the U.S. for about 1 year now on Metro PCS. I just updated it to Marshmallow 6.0.1 and now it will not send SMS or MMS on network. What makes things really odd is that it will ONLY send the messages when I have the WiFi "ON" and connected.I know there has been issues with other users phones and it not sending/receiving with the WiFi on, but my case is the complete opposite of that. I can receive messages just fine on network and do everything else like call, surf the web, etc. When it comes to sending an SMS/MMS 'ON" network it will give me a fail message every time.
I have tried everything it feels like, I have cleared the cache and data on the messages app multiple times. I have tried sending messages in safe mode, tired airplane mode on/off trick, restarted it in recovery mode and wiped cache partition, rebooted it without a sim card, even tried using different sms messaging apps. Basically everything and NOTHING worked, I even took it to a Metro PCS store and had the network settings confirmed and they did some light troubleshooting of their own.
I just don't understand how the ONLY way I can send a text is if I have WiFi "ON" and connected. The finally step I have to try is to do a factory reset but I am trying to avoid that till the end. I wanted to share my story and ask for some help or suggestions on what else I can try that I have not done. Thanks I hope to hear from some of you

[Q] Samsung galaxy s4 sgh-1337 will not receive mms or group texts

I am in need of some serious help, I purchased an s4 on craigslist from an AT&T customer. I verified the phone at the store, and it was an active AT&T phone when I bought it. I then transferred my phone number to a new Straight Talk Sim, and put the sim in the galaxy . I set the APN settings to the support reps recommendation, and everything worked besides receiving group texts and receiving mms. I thought it was the APN settings, so I tried every setting I could find recommended on this, and other forums. None of them worked. The solutions I was able to find included rooting my phone, which I don't have time to do. Since I was unable to use the phone how I needed without mms, I gave up with straight talk and ported my number to a AT&T LTE gophone account. I figured that straight talk was the problem, so I was excited to transfer. Well, after porting today, I have faster Internet, but mms and group texts(incoming of both) don't work. I can send mms, but cannot receive it, and I can send group texts, but not receive them. I am using the default att settings that came which the phone as instructed by the rep. In the AT&T store today. If anyone can please assist me in figuring out why this is happening, and what can fix it, I would be greatly appreciative. I did a search for the APN issue before posting this, but what I found was related to getting it to work with straight talk. I just want it to work with ATT now. Thank you in advance for any help..
Is your mobile data turned on while you try to download it? It may seem silly but I didn't realize it had to be on before ;P
Data is on
Data is on, and the outgoing mms and group texting works. On two carriers now, the incoming mms and group texting does not work. Really need a solution for this if anyone can help.

go to settings>options>mobile network and make sure that "data services" is turned on then send an mms to yourself and see if that activates it.
Data is on. Something with the phone is going on.....
To my understanding, this has got to be a phone issue. The data has been turned on . The outgoing mms is working. The outgoing group text is working. I have been on two different sims with different carriers, and still have the same issue......

I'm having similar troubles:
I CAN send mms,
but I can NOT receive images [although I did when I first set up the phone a few weeks ago, it was automatic image retrieval]
NOW when receiving a mms, a white download button (within a yellow box that gives me the message size + expire info) does not work. I tap "download", and it shows it's trying, but then I keep getting error messages that the download failed.
For purpose of testing the DATA feature of my service & phone I turn off the Wi-Fi.
I'm able to access the internet via data.
I'm able to make calls
I'm able to send texts
I'm able to send mms
However, my phone can NOT retrieve mms sent to me
I've tested repeatedly sending mms to myself. I can send - NOT receive.
Error message: "Message not downloaded - Review message and try again"
I try again, and then the next error message is: "Message download failed"
I don't understand that it worked before seamlessly for a week (after changing APN settings 1x after initial set up of service) and now I can only send, but not receive!?!
I have a factory unlocked AT&T Samsung S4
Using NET10 service with Net10's AT&T Sim Card.
I actually just got off the phone with Net10's Tech Support. Was on the phone over an hour with Service Tech Rep. He was very kind and patient. I had the correct APN settings. We changed some to test = to no avail. Upon my request he gave me different APN settings to try, beyond those that should work for this phone, in case it would work. He stayed with me on the phone while I performed a "Backup & Reset" and then gave me the settings that should apply to my phone. Still the same problems. He concludes that the issue is with my phone.
We do have a local AT&T store. Is there any reset or other options I could request they please do for me????
Thank you in advance for any ideas, guidance that may help!!
PS: My current APN settings from Net10:
Apn name-NET10
Apn- tfdata
MMSC-http : / / mms-tf dot net
Mms proxy-mms3.tracfone dot com
Mms port-80
Fix?
Did you ever figure this out? I have searched high and low and have exactly the same problem, everything works except RECEIVING MMS. I'm on Straight Talk. Please, please, please help!
Why not just Odin the phone to 100% stock. Solution done.

MMS?
Not sure what that means, but if it will work, please explain. I can root. :good:
did you had an iphone before? make sure to turn/sign off imessage in your previous idevice. IT happened to me as well. ITs one of the damn apply/imessage glitch because when you activated imessage it added your number to their cloud server.
Are you back on straight talk or on att? What messaging app are you using?

You didn't provide any detailed information about your phone model, firmware or even a step by step description of how you did a factory reset. So we have no way of discerning whether you missed any essential steps or narrow anything down.
Nevertheless you have an odd problem that no one else seems to be reporting. Ergo the most likely explanation is odd settings or corruption on your phone. As a factory reset (clearing user settings) apparently didn't work, the most plausible remaining cause would be a cache problem or some anomaly in your system files.
To that end, try wiping the cache from recovery mode. If that doesn't help, then use Odin to write a full stock firmware to your phone to replace the system files as well. If your problems persist then open a support ticket with your carrier to look into your account configuration. The latter is unlikely though if the SIM works in another phone. So in as much as we can tell given the paucity of details, you should try replacing your system files with Odin. Also check your APN information.

I'm on AT&T and having the exact same problem. I switched from Verizon as AT&T has a new tower in my rural area for better reception. I have 3 bars in my home and when talking on the phone it goes up to 4 bars. No problem calling out. Purchased the new Samsung Galaxy S5 on 9/15/14.
Incoming calls go directly to VM. Sometimes the phone works as it should and calls and messages came thru in a timely manner.
Mostly the calls go to VM and text messages are delayed. Vm doesn't show up as having a vm for hours.
I have gotten a new sim card, exchanged the phone and the new phone does exactly the same thing, I am now past my 14 days so I am stuck with this phone unless I agree to a warranty replacement phone from AT&T. (Same phone S5)
I have has 4 cases with AT&T and nothing has helped. Last case will be resolved bu Oct 4.
I will try turning off WIFI while at home and see if that helps.
I have reset the new phone, did not help. I don't understand why with 3 bars I can't receive calls.
Calling out is no problem. Incoming doesn't work correctly. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Friends of mine were at my house over the weekend and he had a samsung s4 and had the same problem after logging onto my wifi. It is the wifi causing the problem. I had an old modem and netgear router that we hooked up and then we were able to receive calls like you should. We switched out the modem/router combo on Sat to my older setup and my phone is still working normally! I called my dsl provider and told them about the problem as I just bought the modem/router combo from them recently.
They never heard of anything like this. I do find it hard to believe that the home wifi equipment disrutes the cell phone signal. But my phone is now working!!! Anyone ever heard of this or that can explain why this would happen I would love to hear about it.

Phone taking forever to send txts

Is anyone else having issues with their phone sending txt messages. Mainly on AT&T. I send a txt and sometimes (probably about 40% of the time) it takes 30sec-3min to send a txt.
I thought it was my rom (PN6) since I dirty flashed from the first PN6 to the last. So I just recently clean flashed PN7 to see if that solved the problem but im still having the issue.
Anyone else having this issue? And/or do you recommend anything?
Anyone?
Ive tried clearing the app data.
Ive tried clearing the device cache via the storage setting in settings
Ive tried clearing the cache in TWRP
Ive tried toggling the permissions for messenger
Ive tried Hangouts to see if it was app specific.
I got a new SIM card from AT&T
The only thing i havent tried is putting my SIM card in a different phone (because i dont have a spare phone) to see if its phone related or server related.
I'd advise to flash to stock factory images and see if it still happens. If not, it's an issue with Pure Nexus and you can try to get support in the official thread. If it still happens, I'd probably talk to AT&T tech support. They might be working on some towers or something. I don't personally have the issue on Project Fi, but I also don't use Pure Nexus.
Texts are normally sent over 1x I believe. I remember reading that AT&T is shutting down their 2g network by the end of the year. They might have shut it down already in your area. Maybe the texts are timing out and then being routed over 3g/4g?
Type *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer>phone information>turn on sms over ims>reboot. Worth a try

I went into that menu but i didnt see a "turn on SMS over IMS"
That menu looks way different then when it did with 6.0.1 when we used to have to toggle LTE and GSM to get LTE to connect.
Update
I noticed that if i send a txt and its stuck on "sending" if i go tin to the *#*#4636*#*# menu and toggle "Cellular Radio Power" off then on the "stuck" txt send right away.

XT1625 MMS Not working

I have an Amazon Prime XT1625 on H20 wireless (via AT&T networks) and cannot get the MMS to work. Interestingly, it DID work for a day with the phone in the beginning then stopped working.
Originally purchased back in october. Trying to wipe the AMZN bloat and root the phone I soft bricked it. I followed this thread and unbricked it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/soft-bricked-prime-exclusive-xt1625-t3470693/ ). Currently loaded with XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139 firmware.
The MMS did work the first day and that was it. For the last 3 months no MMS. I have copied both H20 wireless' official recommended APN settings again and again and also tried using the same APN settings from my previous phone (same sim & service), but none are working to either send or receive. H20 wireless customer service eventually gave up and blamed it on the phone saying because it is not an official AT&T phone it works on different MHz - LOL!
Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and messed around with switching "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" dropdown, cycling through the LTE options (did not perform reboot between each though). Also tried "turning on sms over IMS", but nothing worked.
What's odd is at one point it did work at one point. I do not know if something happened during loading the firmware after the softbrick or something else.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Of course, I'm hoping it's a hidden switch or menu, but I'm open to reloading new firmware as well. In fact, I was looking to upgrade to Nougat but I see that there are only soaps available and no official release yet, so I wanted to post this first.
Thanks!
Have you tried a factory reset? Sounds like after the soft brick you messed up the MMS service.

Had this issue on both my XT1625 (non Amazon) and my wife's Moto G3. turned out the APN settings were not setup correctly so it was accessing the wrong MMS proxy. AT&T is also who our provider (Consumer Cellular) uses. Check with H2O wireless and find out what your APN settings should be and set them up accordingly.
Make the APN settings match the settings on this page.
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/mainControl.php?page=dataManualConfig
You also know that MMS probably won't go if you have wifi enabled while sending. Many apps have a T-Mobile setting that disables wifi while sending MMS. For grins, disable wifi then try sending the MMS with just data enabled.

This worked: disabling wifi allowed the MMS to send.
Is this a moto g4-carrier specific problem, or universal problem? Is there a work-around to enable both MMS and wifi simultaneously?

It's not a G4 problem, it's more the app and I use Textra SMS for that reason but there are several that you can use. You can try that or Chomp which is by the same developer and I believe both are free to try. I actually purchased Textra because I just like the features more. In the MMS settings for both there is a setting called T-Mobile Fix. What it does is when an MMS is coming in or when you're sending one, it will turn off the wifi, send or receive the MMS and then turn wifi back on. I've seen that setting on other SMS apps also.

Interesting. I haven't seen any issues with WIFI being enabled blocking MMS messages from being sent. I just use the built in Messaging app that coms with opengapps. My wife had an issue on her G3 that prevented her from sending MMS to a group but worked fine for single recipients. It turned out to be APN settings.
But this is good to know should I see any issues in the future.
OK, have had quite the adventure getting this to work.
I did install Textra and selected the "T-Mobile workaround" setting within the app and MMS worked wonderfully. For about one week.
The all of a sudden it stopped working. Phone crashed and upon reboot MMS ceased to work in its entirety.
This got me thinking there must be a conflict somewhere. So I uninstalled Lucky Patcher and HEBF, and lo and behold MMS would send and RECEIVE only upon reboot. Not once the OS was completely booted, but in that sweet spot of 30 seconds after the main screen popped up and the rest of the OS booted. So I'm thinking there is a conflict somewhere. The only other apps I have that require root is Titanium Backup and SuperSU - I don't think these would cause conflict but I suppose I could uninstall and see.
Short of doing a full factory reset, is there some sort of conflict debugging software that I can use to trace the conflict?

I have TB installed and had SuperSU as well when I was on stock. Didn't see any issues with MMS once I got APN setup correctly. Short of doing a factory reset or disabling individual apps you probably don't have any options to find the conflict, if that is the issue.

(Verizon VS995) can't get 4G data and Text/Calling to work in the same network mode.

I've tried searching on this and couldn't really find any answers. So I have a rooted VS995 (Verizon) and I have to change my network mode in order to get 4G data, but can not receive calls or texts.
[Settings > Mobile networks > System Select > Network Mode]
Here are the results I get.
Global - I get 3G data and I can call and text
LTE/CDMA - I get 3G data and I can call and text
LTE/GSM/UMTS - I get 4G LTE data, but can NOT send or receive calls and texts. Incoming calls go straight to voicemail, calls out fail with a no network detected and texts just say failed to send.
I should add that this all started a few weeks ago when I was flashing a few different roms one day to see which one I liked. My phone worked normally before I flashed a rom (can't remember which one) and now it doesn't matter which rom I flash, I still get this issue. I've been dealing with this for weeks and it's gotten really annoying.
I am DirtySanta Rooted, I have tried installing several different kernels and several different roms with no success. Is there something I am missing? Is there a Radio file or something that I need to flash?
I am even contemplating unrooting, going back to stock and then attempting to re-root, but I fear that I might have to flash a newer OEM that will disable the root method.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: It's late, I'm frustrated and I just realized that this thread is probably supposed to be in Questions and Answers section. If a moderator could move it, that would be great.

Sorry for the late response, I was away this weekend.
I ended up flashing just about every rom and kernel I could find and now somehow it seems that it is now working as intended.
Lucky. I still have the same problem, been flashing since I got this phone and not a single one can I get it to stick with service after boot.
