Where Is My Voicemail Notification? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have no idea if this is a phone related issue, but I get no notifications whatsoever when I receive a voicemail ... no LED, no sound notification, no tape icon ... NOTHING.
I was stunned when I dialed my voicemail today and had 19 messages dating back to February.
I'm on a rooted S5 with Android 5.0.
I have checked all the notification areas and don't have anything turned off.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this?

Have you logged into the Verizon voicemail app? If you haven't logged into that, then it may not forward the messages. I've had that issue in the past.

did you you use another voice service provider and are you using a verizon stock rom ?

Thanks. I'm using the stock rom posted for the Lollipop root method. I ended up getting on Verizon support chat. It took 45 minutes, but the agent said he "synced my phone and put voicemail on it from his end." It still doesn't show up as an app on my phone, but it does now notify me. Anybody have a Verizon Visual Voicemail apk for the s5 on 5.0?

Assuming you are using a ported rom like TOXIC or PureNote, you should be receiving texts to alert you, instead of the usual method.

If you are on the stock ROM, then the visual voicemail app is built in.

This problem just started occurring to me last week. A co-worker called me and said my voice mail wasn't set up.. I didn't even know she left me a voice mail! I had to re set-up my voice mail and now I'm not getting voice mail notifications either.
I'm on the stock rom, 4.4.4 ; my voice mail app is 3.0.6 (according to titanium backup) and hadn't been updated in months...

[Q] Google Voice voicemail issues on LG G2

Google Voice not working from G2 call logs. Anyone else notice this? It shows I have a voice-mail in the phone's call logs but it won't play. Hitting the log does nothing. Can go into GV and hear the message so that seems to be working but it doesn't work like my Gnexus did. Anyone have thoughts or a fix for this?
It's not working right for me either. I kept hoping I would find a setting somewhere but I haven't yet.
Yep. I'm seeing problems too. Sometimes phone rings on an incoming GV number call but most of the time not. This is potentially a deal breaker. I only use GV. Any solutions greatly appreciated!

Try an older version. I wish i could comment on if this works, but i can't get my phone to access google voicemail settings. I recently resubmitted my resume online and i've had 5 calls come in this past weekend on my phone. None have not rung.

Ok. Did that. I tried it a few times today. Rang no problem. I do not get any indication in the recent history of a voice mail but i can swipe notification bar and click on the vm and it opens in voice. Will mess around some more.
My phone rings and it shows in the recent calls notification list. It just won't play the message from that list. I have to open the voice app to listen to the message. I just wish it was more like my Galaxy Nexus but this is probably due to LGs Android tweaks.
I never even look for VM in call log, just quicker, and easier for me to click the notification ....
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium HD app
I reverted to an older version of 0.4.2.54 frin 0.4.2.82 and still am having issues with ringing on an incoming call to my GV number It will ring about 5 our of 7 or so times, but when it doesn't ring, there is no notification of a missed call, not even from GV. I have to go to the Missed call folder on GV to discover the missed call. If someone does leave a message, I do get my notification of the voice message.
This reminds me of the problems I had on my old Droid X with GV and the stock VZ Motorola ROM on that phone. My last phone a Gnex running stock AOSP never had an issue with GV. I suspect that this has something to do with LG's phone/dialer app interacting with GV....
I am also running lightflow for notification, but that shouldn't have any impact on just having the damn phone ring on an incoming call.
Update.
I allowed the OTA and changed Lightflow to not run in the foreground and since haven't had further problems with GV ringing phone on incoming calls?
Not sure what fixed it.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 2
I have a similar problem, i can't make calls to certain numbers with gv. Nothing seems to fix it. It's definitely the g2, i switched my sim back to my nexus and gv works fine.
I was having the same issue. I deactivated it and activated it, and that seemed to solve the issue. On at&t you dial ##004# and hit send to deactivate it. To reactivate you dial **004*1(your gv number)# without the parenthesis and hit send.

Visual voice mail no longer works after root

Since I rooted, my voice mail notification no longer works and neither does my visual voice mail.
I put the phone back to full stock NCG and it still doesnt work. I even turned off the premium visual voice mail feature and my standard voice mail notification still doesnt show up.
I also noticed that when I put it back to full stock, my ring tones and email notifications still work as if they were default. Always before I had to go into my SD card and search for my ring tones.
My visual voice mail and standard voice mail notifications isnt working on my Galaxy S3 either. When I see a missed call on it, I have to call my voice mail and check to see if someone left a voice mail, just like on my S5. I am getting the same error on the S3 as I am on the S5 which is 2004, and it says to call customer service. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and they have no clue what is going on. They said everything is correct on their side.
Currently my S5 is not rooted. My S3 is.
Any help would be appreciated.

6P and 6.0 - Where did voicemail go?

HI all,
So its Day 2 with my 6P, going great so far. Then I remembered about voicemail and I never really did anything with it besides swipe away a notification yesterday. Here's where it gets interesting... I could swear I had a 4th tab in the phone app for voicemail the other day. Now I have nothing. All I have now is my voicemail number which my phone dials to receive. Where the hell did it go?
I found some N5X posts that claim that pulling the sim worked to restore that 4th tab. No luck for me with that solution.
Anyone have any ideas or encounter the same thing? I'm on ATT for the record.
Thanks!
Who is your carrier? You can check for the visual voicemail feature in the dialer app, click on the three dots in the search box, go to settings, then calls, then voicemail. See if visual voicemail is turned on. It should be if supported by your carrier. I think T-Mobile is the only one that supports it currently, that and Orange in France. I could be wrong on that one though.

try dialing 1 or long pressing 1.
but the best solution IMO is using Google Voice Lite for Voicemail. free transcription, voicemails on PC and syncing to all devices anywhere in the world.

Best option until verizon releases a visual voicemail app like they did on the nexus 6 if you are a Verizon customer.... Have to go with google voice.
Edit: I see you are on At&t . Probably a similar scenario as the Verizon one I am referencing.
FWIW, i'm on VZW and i still have the (4th) voicemail tab... but it's non-functional. said there were no voicemails even though there were.
i DID have visual voicemail activated on my account too... so obviously at this point this tab is not yet compatible with VZW.
that said, i also wasn't getting notified of new voicemails so i called and had them remove visual voicemail for the time being. fixed the notification problem.
am looking forward to this 4th tab actually working though!

VZW - Anyone figure out Visual Voicemail?

Anyone figure this out yet? I tried to download the Visual Voicemail from the Play Store and it shows as non-compatible. I tried the older Visual Voice Mail for Nexus by Verizon and it doesn't set up, it just hangs. I've been getting these weird text messages every time I get a voicemail (900080006202 //VZWVVM:SYNC:ev....). I have to dial *86 to retrieve messages.
I set up Google Voice on mine and I'm on VZW. I haven't fully tested it yet, but I have the history of previous voicemail all downloaded again in the app, so it looks like it's working.

visual voicemail is a problem. i had it turned off and basic turned on now i get the normal voicemail notification.. i was getting the same cryptic sms messages.
I called CS and told them to turn off VVM and just leave basic. I'm still getting the cryptic text messages and there is no way for me to know if I have a voice mail waiting. I'll try again and report back.
I was on the phone with tier 2 tech support this morning. We downloaded a couple apps. Couldn't get any of them to work. He didn't have any idea how long it will take to get it. He said continue to check for updates. Eventually, something will be released. I remember it took awhile for the N6 app to be released from Motorola.
I use phone fusion now. The transcription service is much better than youmail or Google voice. The app isn't so great, but it does the trick.

I talked to another CS rep and he successfully removed VVM. With basic voice mail, I no longer get the cryptic text messages and now I get prompted when there is voice mail waiting. I then successfully configured Google Voice to handle my voicemails and now my voice mails appear in the native dialer's voice mail tab after I selected the "Voicemail display" option in the Google Voice app. All is well and will await VZW's support for the 6P.
I've been using youmail for a couple of years now. I've never used VVM from verizon. They take enough of my money.... Not giving them another dime over what I have to. Youmail is free. I've liked it. Not for everyone but worth a try
For my Nexus 6p on Verizon I had to get google voicemail, change to GV for default VM in Call settings, and dial *71XXXXXXX (GV number). The text should not appear now that GV will pick up the notification. This means voicemail will be saved in your GV and not on Verizon. Until Verizon includes 6p as a compatible device for its visual voicemail app, this would be the solution. FYI, there is a visual voicemail Nexus that we can download. That doesn't work either.

Yeah, I just chatted with CS and asked them to remove Visual Voice Mail from my line. Once She did that i stopped getting the odd texts and started getting the regular notifications again.
I managed to get the visual voicemail that I backed up from my 6. it shows in my apps but when you try to open This app is not supported on this device. I hope verizon can update it or someone hack the apk to make it work.

So, I spoke a little too soon on this one lol.
I spent all day yesterday trying to get it to work. What finally worked for me was going on my desktop to the Google Voice website, and from there, disabling voicemail for my line and then re-enabling. For some reason, the number the site had me punch in for *71XXXXXXXXXX, where the X's represent your Google number, was different than what both my app and what the Google Voice homepage on my desktop showed. Works great now. (Except I'd like to figure out how to sync the voicemail screen in the Phone app with the GV app.)

What a pain. I was also receiving the cryptic text messages. I spent about 30 minutes in chat with Verizon. They actually told me the phone was not supported on their network. They claimed "The imei number should begin with 35 or 99". "It does not work in our system. That device imei number is registered to a Huawei" I explained who Huawei was and that the phone worked fine except for voice mail. I got Google Voice setup while I was in chat. They never would acknowledge that this phone should work fine. They did finally say "If it recognized the device, I am sure the visual voicemail problems would disappear!" and "check back with us within a few days just to see if there is an update!"

The product known as Verizon Visual Voicemail is not free in my experience. They charge $2.99 per month to use it. The new Android Visual Voicemail built into Marshmallow is free, once Verizon supports it. This maybe obvious to you, but just throwing it out there for anyone else that comes across this.

Gotcha. I had to double check I did find out that there's a Premium version for $2.99. I have Basic which is Free for me. Obviously as we established currently not working on my 6P and I'm using YouMail. LOL

To sync the phone dialer voicemail screen with GV, you have to open up GV and in settings tick the box for Voicemail display.

Yeah now that I've figured out Google voice. It's great having it right in the dialer and also having the ability to get transcripts (although often poorly) in the app and my email is awesome. It just seems so natural with the nexus. Doubt I'll go back. It's free, just a pain to set up initially. Seamless now. Key is logging into Google voice on the desktop to get it set up properly.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did already have this checked, and the phone log does receive voicemails, but deleting from the log doesn't seem to delete from the Voice app itself, or move it to the trash folder...does it for you?

I hope they update the app sometime soon I miss the visual voicemail and won't use another service. I mean myverizon app works. Hell I'd be happy if someone hacked the apk to work if thats even possible.
Get Google Voice texts & voicemails in Hangouts
I use Google Voice instead of Verizon for my voicemail. You can get Google Voice texts & voicemails in Hangouts on the web and app: link for help
On my Nexus 6p, I get my voicemail in the Hangouts apps, no need to install Google Voice. Voicemail audio/transcription appear in Hangouts. I have a Pebble watch, I can read my voicemail messages on my wrist.
Hope this helps!

Is this phone's Native Visual Voice Mail working with T-Mobile?

Hi Guys.
I got the phone last week and after a couple of days I updated to the Oreo Beta version, one thing I just noticed today after a reboot was that I had 3 Voice Mails after the reboot, those 3 calls were rejected by me but because I never got a Voice Mail notification I thought that they simply hanged up.
The Visual Voice mail setting on the Phone app settings is turned on so I assumed that was all it was needed, but it's not. My current T-Mobile Plan includes Visual voice Mail so I already have that with the native phone app on the Galaxy S8+ and if I remember correctly it also worked when I had my Pixel XL, so I didn't download the T-mobile Visual Voicemail app thinking that I didn't need it.
So today I downloaded it and when I opened the app it never registered, it got me an error every time that's when I decided to turn off the Visual Voice mail option on the phone app and it immediately registered and worked.
Am I the only one? What about others t-mobile users with similar plans than mine, do you have it working or this simply doesn't work on T-mobile?

I don't have the phone at the moment, as I sent it in for replacement, but Visual Voice mail in the phone app and T-Mobile's voice mail app worked on my phone. So the build in visual voice mail(phone app), didn't show any voice mail that were already in the mail box, but when any new voice mails were left, then the app showed. As for T-Mobile's voice mail app, it did show any old messages that were in the mail box and all future ones.

I was told on other forum that it was working fine on Nougat, so I decided to give it a try and downgraded to it and yes, it's working fine on Nougat. So unless somebody with the Oreo Beta and T-Mobile confirms that it works we can assume that it's broken on the Oreo Beta build.
Yeah I've got the same thing on the Oreo beta.
No visual voicemail through the phone app and it did work when I was on Nougat.
I'm on T Mobile. Hopefully the Oreo beta 2 fixes it this week

It will be good to see if after the update that's scheduled for this week this keeps happening or is fixed, if the fix it I'll go back to Oreo so please people if you get the upcoming new beta update, please treat this and report it, thanks.

Well of the few people that have replied to me here and in other forums you are the first one that have a working Native visual voicemail working with TMobile and Oreo. Like I said before mine never worked no matter what, went back to Nougat and began working at the first try. So I really don't know what to think now.
