Flashing other countries try firmware - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello, I am a tyro when it comes to modifications. My phone is rooted and I want to flash the TMobile firmware. Would flashing the firmware wipe my phone?
Unrelated question: can firmware update affect the quality of the camera? I've noticed that my phone takes blurry photo on auto mode, even with the slightest movement. I never had this problem before with my old US variant.
Oh, my current baseband version is G935FXXU1AP 6 (is that an old firmware?)

1. It's stupid flash a branded firmware (TMobile) if you own a unbranded device. Flashing other CSC will wipe your internal memory anyway.
2. The new updates for this device fix the issues with blurry photos.
3. The most important is know your device at all. Install this APP and it will give you all the info you need.

I've tried to manually update through OTA but it said that my device had been modified in an unauthorised way.

When was the last update for the 935F?
Which update were you referring to, that fixes the blurry photos?
Edit: are there anyways that I can check which firmware is the latest and their changelog?

Canadian Variant 928W8 stock firmware

Any one knows when it will be available? My phone has been FRP locked, so need it urgently to unbrick my phone... Thanks!!
Sam mobile usually has all the firmwares available to download as Odin packages. If not I could probably do a factory reset, make a twrp backup and upload it for you? You'll of course need to root/install twrp following all the guides here for that to work though.
I don't know if you're looking for a stock ROM or not. Honestly haven't read much about the FRP lock, haven't even bothered flashing my Edge+ yet (also W8 variant, which is weird for me, first android I haven't flashed.. ). Anyway, there is THIS in the T-Mobile section (rooted+deodexed though).
Hmm... the problem is that I cannot even boot into recovery mode as this stupid FRP is blocking every custom recovery/kernel/ROM.... Only the stock firmware would help to unbrick the phone...

Thanks for the link, but it is not the stock firmware so that it won't help in my case. FRP basically blocks any recovery/kernel/ROM other than stock version. Please please please always keep in mind to check"OEM unlock" in developer option before doing factory reset on a custom ROM, in particular we are using W8 variant, that Samsung hasn't released the stock firmware... In other words, there is no way to unbrick the phone once it is FRP locked.
Anybody manage to find this? I need the stock firmware now too :\
Is it true that the battery doesn't charge after it's FRP locked? So the missing W8 firmware even if it comes eventually when the battery is dead the phone is dead? How in the hell are we supposed to fix this with no firmware available on sammobile?! Is there really no other way? Who has the firmware? Do the carriers have it?
Samsung Firmware has stock firmware for the W8 variant (full ODIN tar files), both OGD and the new OK5. I've been checking sammobile daily, and nothing (even at the time of this post).. Just thought I'd post in case some were not aware..

You're welcome! Since I made that post, sammobile has 2 versions of OK5 firmware now. IIRC, they have a free download method (ableit, it's slow). Should be able to change CSC, but I could be wrong..
Anyone know how to fix it yet?
Canadian variants are on sammobile now.

Flash T-Mobile S7 ROM on AT&T S7

Hey XDA,
I just recently purchased a AT&T S7 (SM-G930A). I also just recently found out that AT&T doesn't push updates to non AT&T network phones. I am using the phone with T-Mobile and I was wondering if it was possible to flash the T-Mobile stock rom without tripping Knox or anything of that sort. I remember being able to do this to my AT&T Note 2 back in the day. If it is possible, can someone kindly link me to the file and instructions on how to flash the stock ROM from T-Mobile? Thanks!
You can, however once you do you can't go back. It may be possible in the future, but Tmobile has a v3 bootloader, and AT&T is still on v2 bootloader.

Thank you! One more question, I have the stock T-Mobile ROM and for the CSC, there are two files:
CSC and HOME_CSC
Which one do I choose in Odin for the CSC option?
Thanks
When attempting to flash using Odin 3.12.3, I get this error in the log:
FAIL! SHA256 is invalid
This seems to be because of a corrupt file?
I downloaded the ROM from two different sources now and still I get the same error.
Thanks

So TMobile ROM on 930A . Any issues ? Did you try going back to AT&T ROM
All that talk out bootloader versions and not able to restore back to AT&T ROM
Can you odin Unlocked 930U version ?
I'm using Cricket on AT&T S7 variant and I couldn't get any update from AT&T, which pissed me off. So I decided to flash G930U firmware and I succeeded. But unfortunately, there isn't a single G930U update been released so far, which is quite surprising.
Other than the update, I'm extremely satisfied with the new firmware. It's so fast and clean comparing to my previous bloated AT&T firmware, free of all kinds of overheating, battery dropping, slowing down, crashing, auto-restarting, bugs and lags (Just so you know, my G930A firmware was the newest. I had to take my phone to Best Buy to update. And I used PDP to disable bloatwares). I highly recommend everyone to flash G930U. The new firmware also has an APP called Samsung+. It's very useful and it tells you if it detected slow charging, or reminds you to restart your phone if it hasn't been restarted for a while, etc.
I'm still wondering if I can receive OTA after flashing anther variant firmware, but I can't confirm since there's no update for G930U yet. I'm curious to know if OP could receive any T-Mobile update after flashing.

I flashed to the latest update of the ROM so I can't prove it works. But from what I've heard, after flashing the ROM you need to factory reset the phone so it can unregister from att and register to whatever carrier you are using it on. I am not sure how true this is but I read it somewhere and it seems to make sense.

if you ever switch ROMs please check about the issue of bootloader version and not able to revert back .
Not able to revert back is the only issue keeping me from odin to T mobile ROM
If bootloader version is a problem then you cannot flash 930U firmware also
Is that so ?

I'm not sure what bootloader the G930U has. The att ROM has v2. If it's newer than that, then downgrading isn't possible. Is its the same, then it should be fine.

Wifi greyed-out after lollipop update on SM-9005

Hi guys
I have run into little problem that I'm hoping learned members here can help me with.
I have a Note 3 SM-9005 that was running Kitkat 4.4.2 and I got it updated to 5.0 from a mobile repair guy. Everything looked smooth until I got home and noticed that now the WiFi does not work anymore. It always stays greyed out and never turns on.
I have tried turning on download booster, smartswitch, nothing helps. I have wiped cache, wipe data / factory reset but that's of no help.
Can you please help me get my WiFi working again.
Many thanks.
Cheers

Ok just checked. It looks to be the Phillipines/Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand version. With some of them branded. Not sure which one I should be picking up?
The stock ROM may be slightly different for each country but you can try the latest Singapore version.

Will it trip Knox? As I would be putting a SIN firmware on a XSI (UAE) handset?
Flashing a stock rom will not trip Knox.
Personally, unless there is warranty left on the phone, I wouldn't worry about tripping the Knox counter.

I have also just noticed that the WiFi hotspot (tethering) doesn't work either.
I downloaded the latest XSI (UAE) firmware and installed it using Odin. But the problem still persists.
Should I try downloading and installing a Singapore firmware?
Is there a possibility that this phone is actually a carrier branded phone and was later debranded and that's why it's having this problem?
Please help life is difficult without Wifi
Does Bluetooth work? It's possible that the phone has a defective wifi chip. I have two galaxy s4 phones that have dead wifi chips but everything else works.
You can try flashinga another country's firmware but not sure if that will help.
Do you have a backup of the efs folder?

Yes the bluetooth works.
The phone's WiFi was working fine before being updated to Lollipop.
No I got it updated from a phone repair guy before I got my hands dirty and put the new firmware my self. So no efs folder backup, unfortunately.
Hmm without knowing what the repair person did to the phone or how the update was performed, it's possible something went wrong during the flash process. Does the phone show the correct imei and MAC address?

He did it in front of me and from memory I can tell that he took a firmware file and used a software (probably Odin) to flash it in download mode.
The phone does show the correct IMEI as written under the battery spot and in device info does show a WiFi mac addresd however I'm unsure how to verify if that may be the correct one.
I have browsed Google and found few other people's posts on different forums who have this exact same problem. Someone suggested that I should reflash the firmware with bootloader checked using Odin.
Do you think it may be of help?
I have just discovered that the serial number on the back of the phone under battery is different from what is reported by the device.
Does this give any hint to what may be the issue?

Hello.
In Europe example warranty is considered possitively.
If You give back in warranty the phone have not be broken via operations like overclocking, overvolting, ect., but other causes like errors display, low battery bug, problems with camera or mic can be considered possitively.

Im new in advanced stuff. I had LG L70 D325 and i root it with KingoRoot. Easy and quick way to root and i had no problems with OTA becouse that phone cant be updated.
I get S7 edge and i was thinking its easy like on LG. I didnt know for KNOX trip. This is my first time in KNOX and Odin updating but i learn howto.
So is there anyway to download only HOME file? Not a hole Stock rom?
Every Download of a S7 Stock Firmware (.tar file) contains 5 files, AP... (System/Firmware), BL...(Bootloader), CP... (Modem), CSC and HOME_CSC. If you have already a stock firmware downloaded, just open the .tar file and extract HOME_CSC. This does only working, if the HOME_CSC match to the actual installed CSC. Normaly, you download complete new firmware and with Odin you flash BL... AP... CP... and HOME_CSC and you wont loose your data with next update. But you will have to root again (CF-Autoroot)...

Yes, you´re right, you flash only 4 files with HOME_CSC and not the normal CSC file. This does only working if your current CSC (i.e OXX) match with the CSC of the new firmware (in case of an update of your current firmware, the CSC will match, if you use a firmware of another country, you will need to flash normal CSC and your data will be reset)...

As I know, smart switch could restore some data (if they were saved before with smart switch backup) like system settings, contacts and events, User Apps. But you cant save/restore data of user apps. So it´s not bad but not perfect...
HOME_CSC: If you want to update your current firmware and you downloaded an update for a firmware with same CSC-Code, you could use the HOME_CSC of the new firmware. If you downloaded an update with different CSC_Code, you could use the "old" HOME_CSC of the installed firmware and you wont loose your data (and it wont change your CSC)...

Probably if the phone was broken not via root process like OC, OV, OC GPU, or similar process then Samsung accede.
I never gave back for warranty so no 100% sure, but people said that examples.

Changing carrier ROMs US variant S7 edge

Have a question here, we get a lot of US imported phones here in Pakistan, mostly AT&T and Verizon S7 edge phones.
They've got carrier bloat and whatnot, I remember reading people flashing Verizon ROMs to get that to work properly on their AT&T phone and flashing AT&T on a T-Mobile phone to get that to work properly, so if one flashes a G935U firmware on a G935V, is it expected to work fine and act as an ordinary Snapdragon 820 S7 edge with no carrier bloat or anything?
All replies will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have, but there have been reports of it not working for some people as well, so I wanted to know if it's a legit method or if it's trial and error and it works for some and it doesn't work for others, because if it does work officially, then it'd solve a huge headache on choosing US variant phones here and we can all relax since the 935U firmware can be flashed on carrier branded phones.
Now, I need to get my hands on an American S7 edge to test this out myself.
Off course without testing nothing can be confirmed ... But most people r too faint hearted to try it

Try Odin 3.12.3 and the latest Nougat firmware for the G930U with the XAA (unlocked) CSC.

Btw which files (AP, BL, CSC etc) I need to flash through odin? As I have noted that flashing CSC renders non-verizon sim unusable.

All of them. AP includes the system, recovery and cache, CP includes modem, BL includes bootloader, and CSC includes sales code.
The ROMs for S7 usually come with CSC and HOME_CSC, the latter will not wipe your device and keep the Verizon CSC which may cause issues and require you to factory reset your phone, the normal CSC files wipes the data and switches your CSC to the new one you're trying to flash.
Choose whichever one you want but I'd suggest the normal CSC just to be safe.

The main issue with me was poor battery life which was resolved when I reverted back to marshmallow. But I have yet to test the battery life on nougat. Other than this, phone is running smoothly and it feels light now due to no bloatware.

id like to know can i flash the 930u on a metropcs 930t1
Have been trying all day to load 935u on my sprint phone and it loads but it just boots into the same sprint firmware, anyway for me to change this?
Just tried to redo this, so maybe i was mistaken that it loaded....FAILS at installing boot.

You probably can, try it out, worst case scenario it fails and you'll just boot back into your normal MetroPCS firmware.
