Changing carrier ROMs US variant S7 edge - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Have a question here, we get a lot of US imported phones here in Pakistan, mostly AT&T and Verizon S7 edge phones.
They've got carrier bloat and whatnot, I remember reading people flashing Verizon ROMs to get that to work properly on their AT&T phone and flashing AT&T on a T-Mobile phone to get that to work properly, so if one flashes a G935U firmware on a G935V, is it expected to work fine and act as an ordinary Snapdragon 820 S7 edge with no carrier bloat or anything?
All replies will be appreciated.
Thanks

I tried flashing G930U on my G930V through odin but it failed. It appears that I can't flash anything using odin. The only way by which I was able to install a firmware manually was through stock recovery by Applying update from sd card.

I have, but there have been reports of it not working for some people as well, so I wanted to know if it's a legit method or if it's trial and error and it works for some and it doesn't work for others, because if it does work officially, then it'd solve a huge headache on choosing US variant phones here and we can all relax since the 935U firmware can be flashed on carrier branded phones.
Now, I need to get my hands on an American S7 edge to test this out myself.

Off course without testing nothing can be confirmed ... But most people r too faint hearted to try it

Btw which files (AP, BL, CSC etc) I need to flash through odin? As I have noted that flashing CSC renders non-verizon sim unusable.

All of them. AP includes the system, recovery and cache, CP includes modem, BL includes bootloader, and CSC includes sales code.
The ROMs for S7 usually come with CSC and HOME_CSC, the latter will not wipe your device and keep the Verizon CSC which may cause issues and require you to factory reset your phone, the normal CSC files wipes the data and switches your CSC to the new one you're trying to flash.
Choose whichever one you want but I'd suggest the normal CSC just to be safe.

The main issue with me was poor battery life which was resolved when I reverted back to marshmallow. But I have yet to test the battery life on nougat. Other than this, phone is running smoothly and it feels light now due to no bloatware.

Flash T-Mobile S7 ROM on AT&T S7

Hey XDA,
I just recently purchased a AT&T S7 (SM-G930A). I also just recently found out that AT&T doesn't push updates to non AT&T network phones. I am using the phone with T-Mobile and I was wondering if it was possible to flash the T-Mobile stock rom without tripping Knox or anything of that sort. I remember being able to do this to my AT&T Note 2 back in the day. If it is possible, can someone kindly link me to the file and instructions on how to flash the stock ROM from T-Mobile? Thanks!
You can, however once you do you can't go back. It may be possible in the future, but Tmobile has a v3 bootloader, and AT&T is still on v2 bootloader.

Thank you! One more question, I have the stock T-Mobile ROM and for the CSC, there are two files:
CSC and HOME_CSC
Which one do I choose in Odin for the CSC option?
Thanks
When attempting to flash using Odin 3.12.3, I get this error in the log:
FAIL! SHA256 is invalid
This seems to be because of a corrupt file?
I downloaded the ROM from two different sources now and still I get the same error.
Thanks

So TMobile ROM on 930A . Any issues ? Did you try going back to AT&T ROM
All that talk out bootloader versions and not able to restore back to AT&T ROM
Can you odin Unlocked 930U version ?
I'm using Cricket on AT&T S7 variant and I couldn't get any update from AT&T, which pissed me off. So I decided to flash G930U firmware and I succeeded. But unfortunately, there isn't a single G930U update been released so far, which is quite surprising.
Other than the update, I'm extremely satisfied with the new firmware. It's so fast and clean comparing to my previous bloated AT&T firmware, free of all kinds of overheating, battery dropping, slowing down, crashing, auto-restarting, bugs and lags (Just so you know, my G930A firmware was the newest. I had to take my phone to Best Buy to update. And I used PDP to disable bloatwares). I highly recommend everyone to flash G930U. The new firmware also has an APP called Samsung+. It's very useful and it tells you if it detected slow charging, or reminds you to restart your phone if it hasn't been restarted for a while, etc.
I'm still wondering if I can receive OTA after flashing anther variant firmware, but I can't confirm since there's no update for G930U yet. I'm curious to know if OP could receive any T-Mobile update after flashing.

I flashed to the latest update of the ROM so I can't prove it works. But from what I've heard, after flashing the ROM you need to factory reset the phone so it can unregister from att and register to whatever carrier you are using it on. I am not sure how true this is but I read it somewhere and it seems to make sense.

if you ever switch ROMs please check about the issue of bootloader version and not able to revert back .
Not able to revert back is the only issue keeping me from odin to T mobile ROM
If bootloader version is a problem then you cannot flash 930U firmware also
Is that so ?

Serious help needed for s7 edge. Calling all the senior developers and members.

I have an s7 edge (G935W8) which is from canada. I am using it in india right now. I want to get volte working on my device which from searches i've found that i need to have indian firmware installed on my phone.
So i tried several firmwares, MM and N also, but no luck with odin. It is giving errors straight away ( repartition operation failed and oltht). Tried different firmwares, only ap and csc, repartition ticked and unticked and all the stuff that i've founded on the internet.
I don't want to root, i want only official Indian firmware on my S7 EDGE from CANADA (SM-G935W8).
Please guys help me out with that. I want it done.

Yes, you can get back to the stock firmware from custom ROM. All of the stock firmwares/os are here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and can be flashed with odin, resetting the phone to factory default state, i.e. as you buy it now and without any info on it. No matter if it was custom ROM or not before that.

Depends on the model. If on the site there is canadian firmware for that model of the s7 - can be done via odin. If the phone is specific and there is no canadian firmware - can't be done.

I can upload and post link, which may take awhile, or you can use SamFirm ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647 ), which is the same program I used to download the odin firmware. I cheated by using SamMobile to confirm CSC code to input into SamFirm and the program will download the odin file and decrypt it to allow for extraction.
For instance, I downloaded SM-G950U/TMK Firmware, which is the USA variant, but, in theory, lacks the TMB system bloatware.
But to get an update to my attempt to Odin De-bloat my S8, I have a suspicion that USERDATA no longer lives within AP, instead it has its own Partition within the Full Odin Firmware, thus, meaning that simply flashing AP, BL, and CP from a Non-US Carrier firmware will NOT remove the carrier system bloatware. Until there is a Odin build released that allows for flashing the USERDATA.tar.md5, the TMB bloat remains after flashing the Generic Odin firmware. But you guys are more than willing to try a find a way to flash the firmware to change the CSC code from TMB to TMK, USC, or whomever does not load carrier bloat into their build.

So far it CAN'T be fixed, so for now consider it a hard brick.
And stop arguing semantics when we are trying to actually help people and warn them before they brick their phones.

So does it apply to the international model too? If I get a G955F from Germany and flash a XEU firmware, it will brick?
I Have a doubt here. I am in a unlocked tmobile firmware on oreo beta. I was planning to flash unlocked firmware to it. so my question is
1) If i flashed unlocked US firmware G955U1 to G955U now, will it hardbrick after BLv3 update.
2)If i flashed now and updated to Blv3 after G955U1 will it be stuck to that firmware forever?
Thanks

This applies to all American/Snapdragon and Exynos S8, S8+ and Note 8 models once BLv3 comes out for those models.
If you flashed a out of region firmware such as G955W, G955F, G955FD etc.
Flash back to your original model firmware or you'll be hard bricked. I'll post updates about the hard brick part. There's some news developing about how to fix the hard brick.

Does this only affect U.S. models or will this affect all models? Also, does this mean there will be no more rooting these devices or can you still root them as long as your phone didn't originally have v3? I.e., the modders can still build versions of the new modified firmware with v3 replaced with the old one? Or will those of us who want to keep our root have to just never ever update (through flashing)?
I'm sorry... this means we can't install custom firmware after this ? what i can do now to prevent this ? i have 955FD and not installed custom firmware or root yet... i want to be able to install custom firmware ... what can i do ?
Seems that Samsung reads XDA as well.... Targeted "security patch"... ?

I have bought my S8 from Dubai and there was no VOLTE option. However my Jio sim worked fine by default. Updating to Oreo has now given me the VOLTE option.
I got this device from US. I am on Nougat. Updating Oreo will solve the problem?
Can anyone kindly help please!!!!

Buying it from US shouldn't matter if it is 950FD device. I hope you're using a Exynos device? What is your active CSC?

Backup your data, Download the latest INS (India) firmware for your device. Insert the Jio sim in slot 1 and flash the firmware through Odin. Use the regular CSC and not the Home_CSC as we need to factory reset the device. Post that you should have the INS CSC.

Thanks for the reply. The latest firmware you mean , on Sammobile is Nougat. Is it ok if I use that. Also if flash using ODIN, will I have to redo TWRP as I will loose Root access?

Search for the Oreo Odin update on Google that was released for India a week back but it is no longer available as Sam took it down. Otherwise, flash the last Nougat version. Yes, you'll loose root, twrp etc as the phone would return to the stock condition. I could have recommended flashing files through twrp, but I believe, your active CSC is messed up so a clean flash is highly recommended.

You're doing something wrong. The active CSC can't be BTU if you followed the steps correctly. Till the time, you don't completely wipe the device, it would never fall back to the correct CSC. Additionally, you need to have an Indian sim in Slot 1 before you do the process as system dynamically allocates the CSC based on the sim in slot 1.

Can you kindly elaborate what you mean by completely wipe the device. since I am using ODiN to flash the firmware, option of complete wipe doesn't arise right.? As it puts the device to stock. The firmware from Sammobile cannot be using as TWRP flash. Also I am using JIo sim in first sim slot. Am I missing any steps..... Thanks for tIme.

In the firmware pckg, there are 2 CSC files, one is the regular CSC that completely (System,Data,Internal Storage) wipes the device and the other one is Home_CSC that wipes all except the Internal Storage. You need to use the regular CSC.
Else, right now go into Settings >> Reset and do a Factory Reset.
