Anyone know the latest release date for volume availability in the US?
I see that Amazon has removed their price of $850 and it now just asks if you would like to be emailed upon availability. I thought the date was 7/31 but I'm starting to wonder if this is slipping. Funny that CompUSA had some for web orders for awhile but are now out. Makes me wonder what their source was, and if it was not really intended for US sales, though the lack of the inner camera lense in the picture would seem to indicate it was. What's the scoop?
Strangely enough, the HTC America site has a link to a 61.4Mb download, RUU_Athena_HTC_US_2.19.453.4_105_1.47.51.00_Ship.exe that appears to be a ROM upgrade for the x7501, but no date of release for the device itself other than "this summer".
Just received my alert from Amazon
I just received the alert the Amazon and ordered one up for $850. Amazon states: "Estimated ship date for this item: August 10, 2007 - August 20, 2007."

Also, Tref, I neglected to mention that 2 or 3 days ago I hit CompUsa's web site and saw that the 7501 was, in fact, available for pickup at a local store (Jacksonville, Florida.) As I was driving down to pick it up I received a call from a CompUsa rep stating that they only had a couple in stock and that these were open-box demonstration units and he'd have to locate one at another store and have it shipped here. I said, "get it." Meanwhile, I did a little reading up on the net and came across some posts someplace mentioning that the units at CompUsa were not meant to be for-sale units but, rather, for-show units and some had a "test only - not for resale" (or some such wording) splash screen. The rep, Scott, called me back yesterday and said he'd located one and could have it shipped, but I told him what I'd come across and nixxed the order and said I'd wait for Amazon, and today I have the payoff.
They have been available at Compusa and Amazon for several weeks now, just in very limited amounts.
The issue with the Compusa "test units" isn't really an issue. It's the same as the regular unit and that latest ROM update fixes the intro screen. You should have just grabbed the one from the store. I drove an hour and half out of town to get the last one from the Compusa in Tucson AZ yesterday and even before the update it was fine.
I found 3-5 places in the US for the Black X7500, over a month ago, ready
to ship.. Off the top of my head 1 was in Miami, 1 in Detroit, 1 in Chicago.
There out there in Volumne now. So why are you waiting?
For me personally, I'm waiting to decide between the x7501 and the Nokia E90. I keep flip-flopping due to reports of this or that issue with each device. I have the luxury of doing this because neither is yet available to me as a US model.
I've had many, many PDA/Handheld/Phones of all sorts and I'm not as excited as I once was to be converting all of my PIM data yet again, this time from WM5 to Symbian or something else. But the Advantage is large, and I'm trying to decide if it is essentially too large for my use. If I take the WM plunge again it will be for the x7501, or another device altogether, be that an E90, an iMate Ultimate, or some other such thing, but not an x7500. Perhaps the HTC Omni if I can wait that long.

I am assuming you said not X7500 because of the price, correct? Other than that I can't see why you would want X7501 over X7500.
Don't need the front camera, and I'd like to buy it from a brick and mortar if possible so it can be returned more easily if necessary. Also I'd like WM6 installed at the factory. Plus, and I could be wrong about this, if there is any possibility of getting one with a flash drive installed instead of the microdrive I figure the 7501 would be the likely device to have it. And of course the price.
I ordered mine from Amazon as soon as I found out about it on their site (early July?). It's due to ship between August 1st and August 15th. I noticed about 3 days later that they changed the status on their site from order to notify me when it's available. I called Amazon and they said that they'd already sold all they had from their first distributor (glad to see it's popular!) and this change was for another distributor. I had them auto notify. I just received notification a couple of days ago, so my guess is that they will be in stock in volume around the 1st of August.
I can't wait to get mine!
If you are close to a CompUSA, you can check local store availability online.
Keith
Thanks, but the closest is about 4.5 hours away.

How right you turned out to be, Infraded. I just received the following email from Amazon:
********
Greetings from Amazon.com.
We're writing about your recent purchase of an HTC Advantage 7501 purchased from Amazon.com. We've learned that some units were shipped out with pre-production software. If you received an HTC Advantage from Amazon.com and are experiencing any problems or errors, please be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware/software to avoid issues.
The download URL and instructions can be found on the right side of the following page:

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
Sincerely,

Being an extreme newb to these devices, I just wanted everything done properly at the factory before I started tinkering. Well, 'live and learn' says I. Or is it, 'sometimes you just can't win'?
Jefson, I got the same email, but mine hasn't even shipped yet.
Since the email says "some units" have the pre-production rom, you should check your rom version first, as you may not have the earlier version, so may not need the upgrade.

yvilla, I did purchase it but they haven't shipped it out. They gave me an estimated ship date of August 10, 2007 - August 20, 2007. Let's hope our batch comes properly setup and configured with all sofware included. If not, I don't believe it will be too difficult to mend. We'll hope for the best.
I read a news message yesterday stating that USA customs have forbidden to import handhelds with a Qualcomm chip inside it. Broadcom is stating that Qualcomm is using their pattents. So if you are waiting for an athena you can wait until it is released by customs. It contains a Qualcomm MSM6275 (quad-band GSM, UMTS 850/1900/2100 Mhz, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA) chip.
Thanks for the heads-up on that, QAN. Yes, a quick search of the online 'Wall Street Journal' site tells me something is afoot regarding "U.S. International Trade Commission following Qualcomm's patent fight with rival Broadcom Corp...", but I don't have time to get up on the matter right now. Thanks again for the pointer.
Just been speaking to Vodafone to check my order status, as they were supposed to call when more stock was due yesterday. Been told by one of the managers that they were told late yesterday that they now have no future stock dates, as HTC were seeking to fix 'hardware issues' with the phone. She used the word recall when referring to existing Vodafone phones, and then mentioned the camera explicitly.
So for those of us with unfulfilled orders the wait continues.
And for those whose phones see the world with a pink hue, a hint of things to come? Anyone else spoken to Voda in the last 24 hrs?
I thought the pink hue was a software issue, or at last that is what HTC were reported to have said a few days back and they said they would be releasing a fix. If it is a hardware issue I wonder if the same recall is going to apply to HD2s from other networks, like O2 for example? And if those already sold are going to be swapped?
I'm not too fussed anyway as the hue on mine is barely noticeable, but I have seen photos from some where it's frankly terrible. Despite the quality of a camera on a phone being fairly low on my list of important features, if I owned one of those I would be interested in a swap.
I assume the Vodafone dont know what is really happening, I dont think HTC would lie about this huge issue.
After a week of tests on my handset that I sent to HTC repairs. HTC are returning it back to me without them doing anything apart from installing logging software that identifies the sms issue.
It has been explained to me several times that it [camera] is a software issue that can only be fixed with a patch that will be released as soon as they can, they are working on it.
I had a call from Voda yesterday (since I emailed a complaint to the UK CEO, I get regular update calls lol) to say that the stock they were expecting hadn't turned up and that the next delivery *should* be 2nd December
Edit: got another call this afternoon from the nice girl who is keeping an eye on my order to inform me that they may get some earlier than the 2nd, she's going to call me back on Monday.
I have a HD2 from Vodafone and mine is ok ok no problems with the camera. Got it last week
Only yesterday, I was told 11th December by a Vodafone rep, middle of next week by a T-Mobile rep, and possibly monday by an O2 rep.
All of these companies were meant to give me a call as soon as the hansets came in. It turns out I've missed 1 delivery by T-Mobile, 2 by O2, and 3 by Vodafone even though I ordered with them some 3 weeks ago!!!
I also thought the camera was an issue that HTC are working on. If there was to be a recall t would be for all phones, as Vodafone ones aren't branded.
Damn this is turning out to be a hard phone to get.
I had put an order i with Voda Business and voda general public. The latter said it would be with me by Sat, i called on the Friday to confirm and was told that a small batch came in but wasn't available to their department therefore wasn't available for me and they projected the next batch would be in around the 11th of Dec.
I then called back to make my feelings heard and was told that one would be with me by Monday and was already in transit. This it turns out was the phone i ordered through the business department which must have priority over regular customers.
I haven't heard anything regarding recalls etc but haven't spoken to them since Friday, so i'm really hoping it will be here on Monday. If not i won't be happy!!!!
Just to confirm the 11 december date. Vodafone UK informed me on 27/11 (which I had been previously told was the date the HD2 shipment where due into their warehouse) that this will not now be until 11/12.
However if there are hardware issues this may well drift into 2010.
I'd hazard a guess the delay is due to some of the bugs noted in this forum seen on the first shipped ROM.
As many people have said here - the average mobile consumer expects their device to just 'work' when it comes to the basics (calls, sms etc). Vodafone aren't doing their own ROM but instead taking what HTC have provided; this means bugs and all. Trouble is while the average WM user who has paid £500 from Expansys etc would come here to look to fix such bugs, the average Vodafone user would be on the phone / back to the Vodafone shop complaining that their phone is "rubbish, doesn't work, can't use it, refund please". I'd therefore guess this is why they are delaying accepting HTC shipments - until their own QA people are happy.
For the record - while I understand this view - I personally would MUCH prefer them to just send me a phone and I'll update it to later firmware when available. But that's just my personal preference! Guess such things are the price you pay when a high end tech gadget like the HD2 attempts to make it into the mainstream consumer market - you're never going to please everyone. On the one hand HTC should have probably done a bit better with their QA, on the other hand no doubt they were under pressure to release. Whichever way they could have jumped their would have been complainers!! I mean, the people on here complaining about basic bugs - would they have been happier if the phone was delayed until say March next year?! Maybe some would've been, but probably not most.
IMO HTC have to keep people on-board by providing updated ROMS / Hotfixes quickly - weeks not months.
Just my opinion..
How long do these hotfixes take to come? I mean, shouldn't some HTC programming team be able to fix all this in ONE DAY?? (*providing it is software problems of course).
I am stuck here with a faulty handset that O2 can't replace because they have no stock. I'm just wondering whether to ditch it and go with another manufacturer. Even if it was working perfectly (which I somehow doubt will happen) it's still a total nightmare typing on the virtual keyboard. I have to correct virtually every word I type and for a previously hardcore texter, I have actually come to loathe texting. It has become a chore!

Sounds like the HD2 isn't for you re. txt'ing. I felt similar around 2 yrs ago (in that I hated touch screen phones for txt'ing) but have since come round. Each to their own.
Re. the hotfixes etc, sadly turning them around in a single day just isn't realistic. Maybe on a home-brew app, but it is with these sorts of timelines which lead to the mistakes in the first place. I'd say you'd be looking at a turnaround time of 2 weeks MINIMUM from bug identification to public release, most probably longer. While it certainly isn't ideal I'd be happy if they turned things round in <1 month.
I know, I know, not ideal the bugs are there in the first place, but such is life!
hmm... I can undestand what youre saying and I can agree in some of it. But if it is a hardware error with the camera, is dosen´t fit under the decription "bug" in my opinion
As to whriting on the HD2 I totally disagree, it´s so nice and i whrite very fast on it

Hi Madindehead - is there a way of checking my vodafone internet usage? Cant seem to find it online on my account page?! I know there is a fair usage policy of 500MB but when I checked my phone this morning the notification tab stated I had been connected to the HSDPA network for 6 hours?! am I right in thinking this is just the connection being kept alive?
Also is there any software out there that can monitor my 3G connection?
I wouldn't worry too much about the FUP to be honest, I don't know anyone who got told off for going over. Plus I think that if everybody tries to stay below it they'll never change it, on the other hand if the majority of people goes over it they might "officially" raise it.
Got mine this morning, woot. Would have had it yesterday but Royal Mail suck...

Correct, I ordered mine on-line last night and have an RM tracking number for it to be delivered tomorrow morning
I got mine from Vodafone yesterday, not branded in anyway at all.
My mate got his too from Vodafone on Monday.
Problems I have so far
1. Can't send SMS messages at all!
2. Bluetooth wont switch on
No issue with the camera so far, battery life not too bad.
Can't get any twitter or facebook updates to notify me when screen locked, but then I havent read the manual!!
Lovely phone though

You're lucky then! I've ordered through Vodafone business, and they can't access the online stock (why not?) and won't get their own stock until 14th December.
Frustrating.
Does anyone know how production cycles (either for Nexus S or in general) work? In other words, what's considered the second batch/wave of Nexus S being shipped to Best Buy? How early do kinks/issues get hammered out in the production cycle (I guess this depends on how closely Samsung is getting feedback too)? If one were to buy a Nexus S a month from its release date (say mid January 2011, for example's sake), would they be getting a different unit, presumably better, with the kinks/reported issues worked out? How long/many months would it be, give or take, before we can expect a Nexus S with early reported issues addressed?
I'm just trying to understand the relationship between production and markets a little more.
I don't think the second batch would be a better unit per say. If they made a ton right now, then Samsung can slowly manufacture new ones while waiting to hear if there were any major defects, but if they are being sold out in Best Buy stores. I can see the second batch not having any fixes if there were any that needed to be applied. Actually, they could be in production right now. Perhaps by the third or fourth wave, there would be fixes, if any.
According to this Vibrant user, he got a better gps antenna (or something) with the October manufacture ship date. I believe there was also a July and September ship dates for the Vibrant, but don't quote me on that. I know July is fact, but not sure about September.
Just my guess.
I see, thanks. Then I guess there's no real difference getting this phone from now and January.
I've been holding off on purchasing the early batches of Nexus 7 due to the quality issues which some are having. I think I'm getting set to move forward.
Does anyone know if Asus has started shipping August manufacturing batches?
If yes, will you please share where you purchased and quality of your Nexus 7?

Don't let the few people with problems hold you back. Out of the tens of thousands (maybe more) of people that own this device on this forum. Only like maybe 50 have had some type of problem. It most likely won't happen to you.
I honestly would love to know how best to inquire or determine this - I actually called google twice on this, but it's understandable that they wouldn't know or have an answer to such an odd (yet relevant to us enthusiasts) on that. They were honest and are totally aware of the hardware issues to both the screen flicker and lift (popping sound on the left side).
How can you tell? e.g. CHECK NUMBER? I'm not sure if that is even one way to fully say... purchased mine from walmart and it does have the lifting issue, but I'm not totally bothered by it to immediately return - super easy to do there (plus I have friends in customer service ).
For what it's worth, my check number was 1047. I am sure such things were discussed in the multitude of.defects posts, and I was actually going to search a start a new post in how best we could figure out newer (hardware issues corrected) batches...
Can the OP retitle the thread on that perhaps; rather than stating August batches - for I still doubt that it's an actively regulated process for such a short notice - figure by Sep/Oct Asus+Google will abide by and solve these problems better.
Note that those units with serial numbers starting C80 will have been built in August, as opposed to C70 units built in July. Also, there's absolutely no guarantee that being built in August means that any issues have been resolved--new builds could have been injected into production in July, later in August, or September, or whenever.
For those folks who bought theirs in August, what do your serial numbers start with?
Bought my 7 on July 14th at Sam's Club...it's in perfect shape. Just buy one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The Manufacturers Date is located on the OUTSIDE of the box part of the SSN number.
Not to be confused with the electronic serial number (Found via Settings > About Tablet > Status ... "Serial Number")
The SSN number is a series of letters and numbers but the first 4 are significant with regards to the mfg info...
C Is the YEAR
7 Is the Month it was made
0 Not sure what this mean
K is for the hardware revision
So a unit mfg'd in August, it would have C8?? as the starting SSN number.
It might be stamped in the inside of the unit, but it is on the outside of the box that the unit comes with along with a number of other numbers.
Agree, there is no guarantee that problems have been fixed in later builds, but i am hoping that Asus/Google are taking action to reduce returns and increase overall quality on an ongoing basis.

I tend to think it's too soon for Asus to have made serious changes to their manufacturing process. Thing's only been in people's hands generating defect reports for a few weeks. September's batches, maybe... Personally, I'm about to return my third Nexus. First from Google Play had screen lift; replacement had worse screen lift plus a dead pixel. Today I picked one up from a local Wal-Mart, only to find it had worse screen lift than either of the other two. I'm giving up for now, maybe try again the middle of next month.

update/edit to a presumably long thread to be - my SSN begins with C60K BC2XXXX5 - who knows if a production date can be figured from a P/N or SSN or CSSN or Check Number determinant ??? It would be nice to hear from Asus on that aspect - perhaps someone may have called/talked to them?
c70 here and all is perfect so far.
I have a C60 from Walmart and I bought my girlfriend one from Gamestop which is a C70. I checked hers for defects before sending it to her.
Mine had some touch issues when first setting it up but has been fine since, so I think it's software related and hers had no issues. Her screen is slightly warmer then mine. Neither have dead or stuck pixels. Mine has zero screen lift, hers has very minor screen lift. Other then that they're the same.
Ordered mine July 27 from Currys UK

All okay so far looks and feels very nice.

C60 here from Google Play, bought a week and a half ago. Very tiny bit of screen lift. I ignore it, it affects nothing.
got a gel case goes around it, no problem.
C70 here all perfect no defects apart from the screen washout problem which is software problem on all devices tegra3 problem.
Hey,
Just ordered a 1+1 but I'm afraid that because of the new 1+2's being shipped out to people they will treat me as "secondary" and I'll have to wait weeks or so Can this happen? I've seen people get their 1+1 in just 3-4 days (Belgium) my order is now on pending shipment!
Thanks in advance for replying!
OnePlus might say no but logic suggests there's limits on production volumes. Now two devices (2 One variants and 3 Two variants) require manufacturing.
Maybe they upped facilities so there's no impact but it's a case of wait and see.

If he's in Belgium, that means his One will get shipped from the warehouse in London, UK. Manufacturing priorities aren't really relevant here, both are in stock in the warehouse and I assume both will ship as soon as possible after the order has been made.
