Hi everyone,
Unfortunately I got my s7 edge cracked, I'm not sure if now it will leak water into the phone!! However I want to know if I changed it will I be losing the waterproof functionality?
Regards
If its replaced by samsung it will be good as new, if you replace it yourself there's a good chance that it won't be water tight anymore.
Just don't go swimming with it and you're good

It's not a waterproof device. It's a water resistant. There are differences between each other lol

A little trick I learned on my Xperia Z2 was to find the barometer in the hidden menus. Squeeze down and if the pressure rises it should be waterproof. That is what I did before playing with that device in the water. Not sure how this phone reacts to the same test but worth a try.

Its border line waterproof. IP68 is the top rating in water resistance
Yes I know borders rating. But read the instructions manual and look for the word waterproof.
Good luck!
Instead you will find tons of references to water proofing and advises of not to submerge the phone in any way

They don't say waterproof, to cover themselves. There's always the chance of a leak.
But Samsung do say it CAN be submerged, so what you've said isn't really true.

Ip68 is not exactly the top rating. It's just a test for water resistance. Passing IP68 test doesn't mean the device pass IP65 test. That's why some device(such as some xperia devices) have 2 IP rating for 65 and 68. And S7 is likely fail in ip65 test.

Hi everyone, i have realized of a little spot on camera, anyone else have this problem? What do you recommend me to do?
Thanx
Check the lens for any dust particles or bit of trash. If nothing is visible on the lens, it may be a dust particle on the sensor itself. I see this from time to time on my DSLR.
IF it is on the sensor you should definitely return it for another phone, there's no way you could possibly clean it yourself.

Is there a limit to the waterproofing temperature of the Z1?
I get that I can dunk it in a freshwater pool, or clean it off in the sink, but what if I spill my glass of tea on it? (It being near boiling point)
I have try it in an Swimmingpool at my work. It works fine.

While I have no idea about limits, sudden changes in temperature are bad to anything, whether waterproof or not.
Think of it the same as how a hot cup can shatter when placed on ice.

It would be best to just ask Sony. Second hand information for something like this is a terrible idea unless someone can point directly to data published by Sony.
ist guess it wouldn`t be good to drop it in hot water. not because of the waterproof. my thoughts are about the glass. as we all know that glass cracks easily in sudden changing temperatures.
I can say that I use my Sony Tablet Z and my Z1 in my hot tub set at 104 F with no issues. I have dunked both but typically mount the tab just above the rim but it has fell in several times.

Hmm..
Maybe if u just spoil ur glass with hot water i think it wont do any damage..
But its a different story if u dip it on a hot water..
And like posts above, sudden temperatue change is very bad for materials..
Well its just my opinion..

Hi, I have my cellphone with broken glass and fully working touchscreen.
Its posibble to change the grass with any other?
Can I make it with a friend cutting that?
The touchscreen will work?
Thanks so much

A lot of times it's easier to change the digitizer and glass as one unit.
Google, model number of phone, and see if they sell just the glass.
Then check the "i fix it" YouTube sites for instructions to do it your self.

Thats what I do first before ask here, I cannot find the spare part.... Its a vowney v5
Enviado desde mi HUAWEI U9508 mediante Tapatalk
Your Phone is not a popular model. So you can not find the spare parts. If your phone is samsung or iphone, you can find many screens for replacement. Since ifixit does not have the part, you have to ask your phone supplier to know if your phone can be fixed or replaced. If they accept replace a new phone for you , it is better, if not, you have to pay a lot of money on replacing the full front lcd screen with glass. They will not replace the single glass for you, they will replace the whole front unit. Understand ?
It could be a problem as many manufacturers glue the glass to the display. It's probably way easier to change the entire display with the glass as you also prevent getting any dust between both parts.

I believe the way it works is that the glass is not special but the way it is glued/fused is. It is also a lot less work to switch the digitizer and LCD together. I know of someone who has problems with dust getting behind the glass now when he tried to just replace the glass. I'm not saying that will necessarily happen for you but just as a caution. If you replace the whole unit you can be certain you won't have any dust issues. This should be a fun learning experience. I know changing the screen and digitizer for an iPhone was for me. =)
Hey all,
I'm currently deciding between the s5 and the new one m8, the reason of the thread is becuase I want some opinions of owners that already experience it's durability, I want to know how resistent the phone really is, I'm an active person from biking every day to running and going to the gym I really want I phone I don't have to baby so much, I don't want cases or screen protectors I want to forget I have to protect and baby my phone and that's the only reason why I'm considering the s5, I hate TouchWiz but if this phone can hold up my peace in willing to sacrifice my stock android experience.
Thanks to those who share their experience in advance.

It is water and dust resistant, but that's it. It's just as durable as other "regular" phones out there, and I can't think why would you even expect anything else? So you either put case on it, or you buy a different phone. You can't get a phone this thin, that can take the beating, simple as that...
It's resistant, not rugged.
It's water and dust resistance seems more like in case the phone falls in water, or in case you drop it at the beach. Not, "hey let's go swimming with my phone in my pocket!"
This is just my initial impression. It feels like any other Samsung phone. I'm not willing to test it out because I don't want to risk it in case I return the phone.

I've dunked the phone underwater in a pool plenty times and its been fine. Its IP67 so it's waterproof for up to 2 Meters or something for half an hour.
Dunno why Samsung keep saying 'resistant' when it seems to be more then that

If they said water proof they'd have people scuba diving with it and then suing them when it broke.

There is Sony saying their Z2 Tablet is waterproof. Obviously that would break if you took it scuba diving, however Sony still says it's waterproof.

I was just thinking off the top of my head. Good point. I really don't know why one company chooses waterproof and one chooses resistant.
Does the Sony have a removable back plate?

Perhaps it could be Samsung taking an extra step to cover themselves. The new Sony's are all sealed shut but I imagine the waterproofing is just the same method with the rubber seal
Sent from my SM-G900F using xda app-developers app
You can't see it, because it blends in with the case material, but the entire back of the Sony phone is covered with fine print.
Using a special ultraviolet light, defending counsel will illuminate the phone in court and have you testify as they point out that it was printed there all along.
It's in the booklet, needless to say Samsung does appear to be working at covering themselves from liability more than Sony.

Yeah! This makes sense! It's just that, they test it so people would know how resistant it is, but me either, I will not risk mine. Maybe, by accident it fell in the water, then I'll see what happen next if it's true.
sony says they device are waterproof because they are ip58, the 8 means they are completely waterproof aka completed sealed from water. and in this case, the depth and time of immersion are specified by the manufacturer. sony specifies it 2m and 30 minutes, so if you keep the devive under water but dont go beyond that, it should be fine
Its close to moron resistant so I say keep away(Im not even joking), just how resistant is it well you may burn your hands at first touch!
Oh yeah sick thread dude its real awesome!
It maybe water resistent. But I think if you have open close the usb port hundred times, the water protection will not be perfect anymore.

You won't need to baby it as much as the HTC. With the metal back on the HTC, you'd be afraid of even putting it down on a table for fear of scratching it.

screen note 4 is a single component? Or glass and touch screen ..
I fell and I was a broken screen. The touch screen works very well, but it bothers me to see the line break and want change.

I'm not sure if it's one or two parts. But pay the extra money and get the screen and housing in one. It makes the fix a whole lot easier and less time consuming

Yes... but ... the difference is ... 10 Dollars or 300 dollars.

Where are you sourcing these parts?
The glass screen is actually glue onto the digitizer/AMOLED panel. So you are better of replacing the entire front panel rather than the glass as chances are you are gonna damage the digitizer/AMOLED panel when you remove the glass anyway.
