LG G5 vs Xiaomi MI5 - LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have been using the new Xiaomi mi5 since 1 Month now, and the LG G5 since 5 days. I can notice big difference for the favor of the Xiaomi. Its faster, smoother, no overheating, battery life extremely better. And even the 3GB version of the Xiaomi i have scored a higer score on the antutu benchmark
I wanted to share my experience with you guys, and we could discuss pros and cons of each device and maybe your votes to keep the Xiaomi or the LG
Thanks

i have both too and would say the LG G5 is a tad more fluid and software much more optimised.

Didn't you notice the battery life difference between both for the exact same way of use? I found MIUI a totally different experience of android, not ideal, but different. The screen resolution under the sun light as well is favored by Xiaomi more than the LG. I am having this overheated LG which is not to be noticed on Xiaomi ( except when charging). Don't forget the price difference as well

maybe the UK LG G5's are from a good batch beause i noticed none of the moulding or heating issues... also EE in the UK are selling the LG G5 for £399 which makes it as cheap as the Mi5 and at that price I'd go with the LG as it supports all European LTE bands.

Camera ? That alone rules the mi out if it matters to you.
The only chinese company that has a chance here is huawei. Not xiaomi or opo.
if you're into performance and roming then stick to those two. They are great for the price.
Battery has been improving on the xiaomi's. The redmi note 3 is excellent for battery.
But sealed battery and no expandable storage are deal breakers for me.

Huawei? i won't be that sure dude. After my experience with Mate 8 i won't repeat this experience again with Huawei. I am not that into chinese handsets, but the Xiaomi mi5 changed my mind somehow. They did great in this device. I am not a camera guy, so i didn't even take it into consideration. Performance and personalized UI is what counts for me. Running both devices on antutu benchmark, the mi5 (32GB, 3GB RAM) scored 108K and fractions, and the G5 (32GB, 4GB RAM) scored 103K and fractions.
My personal opinion is that after the MI5, Xiaomi will overtake Huawei in selling numbers coming after Samsung and Apple. First sale wave 4 Mil. sold devices whereas G5 launching day in S. Korea 150K sold.
Last but not least, this opens the market more for competition among manufacturers which results in something good for us users.

Exactly, if you don't appreciate camera, don't care for expandable storage or replacable battery, then G5 isn't going to impress you.
Each device has its own forte. otherwise its like comparing a cow & a horse and saying the horse is better because it runs faster
xiaomi's & opo's forte is price. For the price you get x,y,z. Always this qualifier 'for the price' is used to describe these phones. This is why people run after them. Huawei isn't in the same price range so not much interest but this is a demographic that isn't going to look at flagships in the first place. Huawei has been creating waves of late and has the resources to pull it off. To sell in the west they are best placed. So they are also looking dangerous to the big 3. Your bad experience with the mate 8 is an anecdote. i can find any number of people in these forums that does not like a paritcular device for some reason or other. Does not make the device nor the company that made that device bad.
You go on about performance but anything with an SD800 and above has enough performance in 2016. People are not going to replace their phones because of low antutu score. They will do it if it lags and if the firmware becomes incapable for whatever reason of delivering what they want.
The competition is good but i would have preferred they not make sealed batteries and no expandable storage. Which flagship in 2016 will not have expandable storage. Only the nexus. Am surprised you did not even mention this. From what i can see all the big 4 have it. Cheaper phones have always included them and to not find them on flagships is odd. here its a reverse situation. When the flagships have it this so called affordable flagship refuses to have it. Why. because it looks pretty ?
As it is we are held back by OS upgrades .Anything less than a flagship means the device you buy dies with whatever OS it came with. To then add extra hardware limitations so as to force you to upgrade every couple of years isn't encouraging.
Oh i know that mi & opo are good with updates.Just have to be patient. When i hang out in those forums sometimes important bugs can take months to fix if at all. You don't get this with the bigger names. We will pretend the S6 memory fiasco did not happen. You have an idea what it is at the outset not several months later. You pay more because you are not a paying beta tester.
There is one thing i will grant these chinese phones and that is root is not a big deal. Click here to root. Amazing. The weird thing about phones compared to computers is you are not allowed to become admin for some reason. You are the owner of the device but you cannot really own it. No problems with locked bootloaders etc.
Whereas if you don't have a euro G5 there is no chance to root because all other bootloaders are locked by LG. Major deal breaker for some people. We're not even talking about roms here. Just root.

All your points you discussed are logical, but POVs' are relative. Otherwise if we all have same opinion or POV then all will buy same device, but each individual looks at things from different perspective.
I am not against any device or manufacturer, i am just reflecting my experience with the devices. I am not comparing paper values, rather personal usage and experience. This only reflects mu POV according to how i use and what i like to use in a phone.
Expandable memory? Mmmmm, Apple doesn't have, Nexus, Xiaomi as well. Maybe they have a marketing strategy behind it,thats why they are making devices with 128GB Internal memory. ( except Nesus).
I have the T-Mobile LG G5 and it will take quite looong time before any development will be out there. Unlocking bootloader, rooting, and ROM's.
Because i liked both devices, i am keeping both as well the G5 and Mi5 It's just the experience i have with MI5, it gave a new and different experience which i liked and respect from a company 6 years old, and i have been using android phones for the past 10 years.

Where did you get your mi5 from?
Also android police was very negative about the G5

mi5 scored higher due to fullHD display.... captain obvious here.

IT's actually faster, it does more things at once. Comparing the foreground app as an indication of a machine's "speed" is false on so many levels. It's very much possible on (any) android machine to do many things at once, something that iOS expressively disallows, apart from very few "approved" services (like music playing).
So yeah, things happen faster to an Android machine, even if it is 2 years old, it *feels* less fast though...

Market share as it stands right now. Xiaomi is going to have to vault past two other Chinese vendors that have more resources to get to 3rd place. Those two aren't standing still.

Tough choice.
The Mi 5 is physically smaller than the G5. +1 for the Mi 5
The Mi 5 has a 1080p screen with a 3,000mAh battery vs the G5's QHD screen with a tiny 2,800mAh battery. +1 for the Mi 5
LG's custom Android ROM isn't as bad as the one from Xiaomi. +1 for the G5
The Mi 5 has a physical home button vs the on screen buttons of the G5. +1 for the G5
The G5 is made by LG while the Mi 5 is made by Xiaomi. +1 for the G5.
Mi 5: 2
G5: 3
But the combination of bigger battery and lower resolution of the Mi 5 is a BIG plus.

Wow, I'm really surprised how low LG is. I realize LG is smaller than Samsung and Apple but with Apple at ~18% and Samsung at ~24% I would have guessed like 10-12% for LG.

Just a 2800 mAh battery for a 5.3 QHD display phone ? Seriously LG ? Replacable battery is a plus but how often would you replace it ?

By the way, in Q1 the Mi5 had only the first selling wave which was i think somewhere between 9 -12 March. So we have to wait until Q2 to see how they do especially after they release all other colors and the 128 GB version as well.

Why would anyone want the Mi5 after seeing this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2jav7UdQtE
It breaks like a toothpick.

3000 mAh is ok, but a 2800 compared to it is "tiny", LOL.

Not a tough choice, rather easy in fact.
Camera is why you will choose the G5.
Budget is why people run after the Chinese. They can't spend more than $350. Some arbitrary number. They will compromise any requirement to fit into that budget. And the design is pretty good, they say why pay $200-300 more for a phone that 'looks' and 'feels' similar. Then they will quote you some specs and say see i got same cpu for so little. lol.
You can get up to 5h SOT on the G5 with always on off. If you need more get a spare battery. Now you can get 10h if necessary. Takes one minute to replace the battery. You will need to do this if you use the camera a lot any way.

LG is a conglomerate that sells lots of other things. That they could even get that much share is good. Not being in that list does not affect companies that make phones or even new ones from joining. In the sense the top players make the most profit. But if you're a smaller player and still making a profit there is no problem.

yep, 6% and its the end of the world
6.0.1 has been good for battery life. Even the S6 with its ZOMG 2600 non-replacable battery has benefited.

Considering this phone, couple of questions and feedback from owners please...

I've been away from all this phone thing for a couple of years. In fact, I was never very much into it, I just used to buy whatever flagship there was at the moment as that would usually be cheaper - a phone that would last for a long time and be able to keep getting support. Seems like things~have changed quite a lot and flagship phones are waaaay too big and cost what they cost because of a lot of stuff I don't use or need.
I currently own an LG G2, which from my searches seems to be still very up to date. Best two things about it is the size and screen/body ratio that allows for single hand use; big battery (3000mah). It's getting old though and I was thinking of replacing it but I'm lost.
This X Play got my attetion mainly because of the price, battery life and the near stock Android which should be easy and quick to keep up with Android updates. Motorola being owned by Google made me think these would get a fast and prompt support.
But after reading and watching a few reviews, I'm no loner sure I should spend my money. A few specific questions and a more general one:
- Many reviews end up saying battery life is nowhere near the values claimed with regular use, with screen on times of about 4 hours (web browsing and such). Is that the case? Lower spec Snapdragon and over 3600mah sound like it would last a lot more.
- How are updates with Motorola and what would it mean in the future, now that it's going to Lenovo? Is Pure close to owning a Nexus or no?
- Do benchmark numbers like Geekbench mean anything? My old G2 wipes the floor with this one if they mean anything, making a lot less sense getting it. It would be a huge downgrade.
And the more general and probably more useful question for me...
- Are you happy with this phone and why? If you know the G2, is it worth replacing it for this one? I mainly use these things as phones, web browser, social media and light games when I need to kill some time (no crazy high spec FPS games or watching movies or playing music). An immediate disadvantage to me is that this phone is already a bit too big for my liking. Borderline too big though, so pluses could easily outweigh this.
Just to give you guys a bit more context, the Nexus 5x would be my no brainer choice if it had at least 3000mah battery. Like the OnePlus X for size, specs and price but I think my current G2 is clearly a better phone on pretty much everything.
Sorry for the long post but you see I don't have a real clear idea of things, so I can't really make very specific questions. Any thoughts appreciated regarding these generalities! :fingers-crossed:
- Considering the primitive specs sheet and the huge battery, the battery life could have been better. But still it is better than most of the other phones available now
- It's almost a Nexus except for perhaps the dialer and a few motorola goodies thrown in. From my past experiences with Motorola phones, the first update is quick, the second comes a bit late
- I like holding the Play in my hand better than G2, it feels more sturdy.
- If not for the Motorola goodies, it's not worth the upgrade (assuming your G2 is still holding up). The battery life is only slightly better (but much much better than G3).
- If it matters to you, there is no Gyroscope in Play. The camera on X play is slightly better but again there is no OIS.
- x Play is water repellent. I am one of those people who don't use a cover and am more than happy to take my phone out when it's drizzling or snowing
Personally i am disappointed with the screen on X play. The previous versions of Moto X had an AMOLED screen and the Moto Display was great on it, and up to the mark on the LCD screen.
Hope this helps and forgive my poor English

I've been asking around but it seems I'm keeping my money and my G2. I can't really find a phone that is a solid, all round improvement over it and that justifies spending the cash. Oh well... :highfive:
Honestly dude, this is a very good value phone. Performance with the underpowered chip is really pretty good minus the occasional hiccup (I don't game, but I like a fluid ui... which this definitely has 99% of the time. Sometimes it'll hang for a bit under load but sorts itself out pretty quickly and is a very minor nuisance). The battery is a beast too. I dunno what setup the other guy has that he's only getting average BL (xposed cuts life in half I've noticed, so I stopped using it), but mine is great. Build quality feels kinda cheap and the way it rattles when it vibrates makes me cringe, but this is not a flagship phone. I got mine for 150 CAD outright on a carrier promo, but honestly I'd still be satisfied if I paid double that
I have the phone and found it an upgrade over my iPhone 6 and my wife's S6. I hate gimmicky features, which the S6 has.
Battery life is very nice on this phone in my opinion. I average 4 hours SOT and I'm mostly on cellular data and have a BT headset on all day. Even then I'm only down to around 45% give or take.
Performance is great for me. I had a Nexus 5 for a while and that was really the only other Android phone I have had that was as fluid or more fluid than this phone. The S6 and iPhone 6 had hiccups in the ui, even more than this phone.
All that being said though, if your G2 is still working nicely, I would highly recommend just sticking with it. Maybe invest in a new battery and a case to freshen it up. The new Qualcomm chips don't really seem to be that much more powerful than 2 or so generations ago. Even ram counts and storage space haven't gone up as much as I would have expected. Kinda like we have hit a brick wall. I expect that a flagship phone shouldn't start off with 16gb anymore... Looking at you Apple.

Thanks guys! I was sort of doubting my conclusion... from what I was seeing, there's no real differences in usage for the perspective of an average user. Its a good thing though, a cheap(ish) phone like this would actually give me a better experience over some (all) the current flagships.
I might be getting old, apparently I'm no longer a member of the market when a company thinks about a new phone... From what I've seen, my perfect phone would be the combination of 3 current models and that combination doesn't exist: OnePlus X for size and looks, Nexus 5x for the stock Android and this Play for battery life.
I came across some Chinese phones that claim crazy insane MAH batteries(*) but, knowing how they go about rewrapping batteries and LiPo packs with absurd numbers that are impossible, I'm not even looking into those. If they are for real I'll eventually hear something about them...
(*) Google "Ulefone Power" just for kicks...
I know exactly what you mean there. It's frustrating but that seems how the market works these days.
I'm only 26 myself and I feel like in the older part of the market these days! I had been contemplating some of those cheap Chinese imported phones myself, but found the X Play in store and that's what changed my decision. I'm overall happy with it. Mobile CPUs have seemingly advance more in the midrange/low range sector than the high end chips.
I don't see any reason to buy a flagship phone any more, or if you do, buying an older generation phone for the cost savings. Especially if you unlock the bootloader and load other firmware.

Well, I guess one gets used to certain things and stops feeling the need for more. But apparently the good thing about flagships to us is that they make what we consider good gear mainstream and affordable. I had to buy a new PC the other day and I ended up with an odd looking and tinny HP Mini i5 8gb plugged into a 32' TV. Waaay cheaper than an entry level gaming rig, does everything I want effortlessly, doesn't take up room... so there's a good thing about getting old (I'm 38 btw)
More on topic though, and picking up your point about past flagships, I've just found the Galaxy S6 Active. I had never seen one of those things before, don't think it was ever on sale here in Portugal. Ugly as hell, looks like something made for the zombie apocalypse but it's an S6 with a top notch battery! That could be interesting, must check that one out better...
If it's not an AT&T exclusive and available everywhere, it would have been an obvious choice for some.

I was comparing the X Play's battery to G2's battery
Compared to most flagship's available now, yes the battery is a Monster but with G2, it's only a slight bump (not the capacity but the actual performance) and i thought he was looking to replace his G2

It can be had unlocked, I've looked into ebay and I can get one from within the EU but they look like unlocked and tested AT&T used units. Price is about the same or higher than a brand new X Play. And despite being checked units with warranty, that still doesn't tell me if it has a fresh battery in it or not - probably not. Getting one from the US is out of the question as with taxes and duties the price could easily be 30 to 40% higher.
That and the fact that it is an AT&T phone. My current one is also an AT&T branded unit and it's a PITA to update it. No OTA updates for me as I'm not in the US and the phone has to be registered to the network to get the updates - or something like that, don't really know that works but I have to manually flash it.

I sort of am yekollu, but it's not like I need a new phone because mine is about to die, it's more the capricious wish to have a new toy. My G2 is getting old in the way it has some scuffs to the body (mostly hidden by a low profile case) and battery went through many cycles already but its health is still good. I just thought that after a couple of years not looking into phones things would have leaped hugely and the most recent models would wipe the floor with the G2. Some do but only in high end games I don't play and at the cost of having to have the phone constantly charging.
I still haven't gave up on the idea of a replacement and the X Play is a strong candidate as battery life is more important to me than most things but I'm not yet convinced I'll feel like it was money well spent. I do appreciate your and other people's feedback as reviews have wildly different numbers and results, and I don't know how some of those numbers translate to everyday real usage. :highfive:

I sort of am yekollu, but it's not like I need a new phone because mine is about to die, it's more the capricious wish to have a new toy. My G2 is getting old in the way it has some scuffs to the body (mostly hidden by a low profile case) and battery went through many cycles already but its health is still good. I just thought that after a couple of years not looking into phones things would have leaped hugely and the most recent models would wipe the floor with the G2. Some do but only in high end games I don't play and at the cost of having to have the phone constantly charging.

If it's battery life, go for X play!! Like i mentioned earlier even though it's slightly better than G2, it's much better than most other phones available now (I still use my G2 as standby phone).

I just got another email from GB about the Elephone P9000 Power... at 180 bucks from China (so import duties most likely on top of that), and from a couple of youtube reviews I've seen, might be something worth the punt. As fas as I can tell, it runs stock Android also. It's a big 5.5 screen but so is the Moto and this thing looks a lot more compact. Sounds and looks too good to be true, so I'll have to look more into it. If what they, costumers and reviewers are saying is true, this is the real flagship killer and best phone to beat by a country mile.
...man, 6050mah battery?? And stock Android so no more ties to a company I don't know on the update side of things?

Dont buy those chinese phone. Their battery capacity is only good on paper. Im not even sure that they put real capacity on it
I'll post these screenshots to give you an idea of my battery usage. It's a beast in standby with MM as well my friend. I haven't modded mine much either, just rooted and gravitybox.
Oh I actually just remembered another phone that may interest you. The Alcatel Idol 3 5.5. It doesn't have the same size battery, but similar chipset. I played with it in store and it seems quite capable. I'm not sure about software updates though, haven't heart about MM for it yet.

Of course not... I can't even find their site. Or maybe a do but if that's their site... To make it worst, I know the brand from the electronic cigarette world, which was the only thing that worked at stopping me from smoking. They have a very cheap device with awful QC. They sound like a brand that will trough an electronic device together if they can find some NOS parts and with no clear focus or market.

Thanks! The more I look into this, and even without an urgent need to switch phones, the more interesting it looks. What sucks here in Europe is the price. It's a good price at just under €400 but no quick charger or anything. And the phones like the G4 or the Nexus 5x can be found cheaper. All worst on battery but still hard not to think about those for the price...
The US gets much nicer stuff, no fair! The Moto Droid 2 Turbo (or something like that) looks like a beasty, including battery life. But just like the S6 Active was an AT&T exclusive, the Droid 2 is a Verizon exclusive. No Moto Maker also but that's not a real bummer with the Play, I would end up with a similar look for it anyway. Not a fan of metal or matchy matchy colours that aren't either dark grey or black.

The G2 has a great battery life only because most flagship phones suck at that. I came to the G2 from an HTC OneX, flagship for less than a month because HTC released the OneX+ right away and without warning there would be such a thing. Essentially the same thing with a bigger battery because the original would last half the time of a G2. So the LG looked amazing to me.
I now can't say for sure but I'm pretty certain I could go through a whole day of heavy use when I owned the first Galaxy. Those AMOLED displays wouldn't use much battery... you couldn't see a thing when on the outside but they were great little phones when in dark, smoky bars frequented by ladies of dubious reputation

You can try samsung galaxy a7 2016.
Touchwiz is better now and the screen and battery is great
Thanks for the original poster for this thread, because i am actually looking at the exact same doubt. I don't own a G2 right now, but i did in the past and i achieve 8 something hours SOT. I also found the battery life reviews tricky, with some stating massive stand by times and others just getting 4.5 hours SOT.
Also... the price difference is huge right now. We can get a decent G2 for 150 CAD$, and a moto x play on Wind carrier, still sells for 450 CAD$, plus tax, which totals 500$...
Shouldn't we be all achieve at least 8 hours with moderate usage? web browsing, calls, texts, facebook?
so... USED LG G2, or NEW Moto x play?
The difference in SOT amongst users comes down down to different usage scenarios.
Battery life will deplete according to 2g/3g/4g mode.
Also whether mobile data is used or wifi is used also counts.
The brightness at which phone is used also counts.
The signal reception of area again counts.

Buy Nexus 6P now or wait (May 2016)?

Hello.
I've had a LG G2 for 2.5 years and it's been a great phone. Unfortunately I'm starting to have issues with the microphone and the phone probably needs to be replaced in the not too distant future.
I am currently in a situation where I honestly am not in a rush to buy a new phone, I prefer to have the latest and greatest (because it generally holds up better over the years) and I want a phone that'll serve me for another 2-3 years.
The Nexus 6P has a lot going for it, the display, the stereo speakers, the buttery smooth UI, sleek design and fingerprint scanner.
On the flip side, I find it a bit too big (but I can manage it) and I'm worried about how well the phone will age. I don't have much faith in the Snapdragon 810. Is it still worth buying or am I better off waiting for the next generation?
The Nexus 6p costs $630 here. I've had a look at the newest 2016 flagships and only HTC 10 caught my attention, but the price of the phone is an outrageous $830 and I cannot justify spending so much.
So, should I hop on the Nexus 6P wagon or wait for the next generation?
I'd say for you to wait. But for what? I don't see any flagships phones to be announced. Don't know. Maybe the next Nexus? Surely will be a few months away.
The CPU is not that important. At least for me. If I'd buy the Nexus 6P at this time. Probably yes, for the price and updates.
I upgraded last month to a 6P but that's because my N5 was on it's last legs and there was a sale ($500 for a 64GB 6P and they throw in a $50 gift card so it's effectively $450).
I would have waited for a 820-based 6P but it's unclear if Google will really release such a beast. I wanted a Nexus device to ensure updates for a few years so I ended pulling the trigger on the 6P when the sale was announced.

The other device to look at would be the Moto X Pure.
Processor is slower but here in the states a 64GB version for $399.
Another option came up, the Samsung Galaxy S7 for $680 - so $50 more.
The S7 has a lot going for it, like the more wieldy size, better display, good camera, waterproofing (which is more of a nice-to-have sort of thing). On the other hand I will be missing out on the quick Android updates and the stock android experience and I will get the TouchWiz UI, which I don't mind (I've been living with G2's UI for 2.5 years which isn't much better...) and I'll be missing out on the stereo speakers.
The Moto X Style is really nice, but if the SD 810 has me worried, how about the 808? I like the looks of the Moto X Style but the SD 808 and bad battery life is a deal breaker, even at the $420 price tag.
Had to get the 6P for Fi. Happy with it. I was holding out for I/O 2016 in hopes they would announce a mid year fresh with better CPU but no such thing happened. Oh well. This phone is pretty chill for me.

oh man we are in the exact same situation here ! literally ! G2 802 owner here. i was running exodus 6.0.1. it will keep you going for a little while but with lack of good camera features. i will be pulling the trigger on the 6p soon. it costs 594$ here if bought from play devices (play store), but in third party e commerce sites its about 475.. the prices will drop soon. currently its at its lowest price here. once it hits the 400$ barrier im picking it up for sure ! guaranteed updates for next 2-3 years officially another thought is that . what if the next nexus is actually cheaper than the current 6p ? (in terms of initial pricing). itll be like we bought the old device for just 10-15$ more or something.. hence till my g2 is going good, i can keep it on hold. i suggest you do the same . head over to cheapass.in , here you can track prices of the links posted from e commerce sites and it will tell mail you to inform you the price drop ive been following the 6p for a while now.

If I would to buy it now I would do it. I got mine in January and no had no problems with it at all. i get good battery life and with the improvements android N it will be better in my opinion. I been using a V10 a few weeks as I got it for my backup/media phone since it has a sd card and while i like it especially cause the camera will be great for the future...i returned back to the 6P yesterday and i forgot how much i love it. great screen and i forgot how awesome those speakers are. the moto x pure might be a little better but still the 6P speakers are great. my only gripe is that i wish google would be a damn sd card slot but i know it will never happen but i can dream.
I came over from a G2 and haven't regretted it for a minute.

Just had to retire my G2 D800 due to screen ghost touches. Got the 6p. Bigger but loving it so far. Not really a phone gamer, just calls, texts, and read news articles. Battery is amazing. 6-7 hours SOT.

Would love to know how you're managing that... I'm lucky to get over 4 hours on anything from stock to custom ROMs and kernels with Greenify, Xposed, etc. Never play games, only browsing, texting, music, and small YouTube bits here and there. My battery life has never been that great on any device like some people claim.
Only rooted. Ad blocker installed. Disabled all non essential Google apps (Chrome, Drive, Movies and TV, Books, Games, and Photos). I use Tinfoil for Facebook instead of the stock app and Opera Mini. I don't need emails delivered immediately so all syncing is turned off. And turned off Googles 'Back up my data' in Backup and Reset since there seems to be a bug with it eating away battery in some of the other forums. I don't need Google Now and disabled the voice activation in Search. At this very moment, I've got 7.5 SOT with 12% battery left.
We are literaly in the same exact situation, I've had my G2 for about 2 years now and I recently rooted it and flashed Google Edition 1.5 ROM + Dorimanx kernel which kinda revived my phone and Its now way smoother with better battery life, that being said I cant see myself keeping this phone after the summer's done and I've been looking for a potential replacement. The HTC 10 looks perfect on paper: similar size, better specs, better build quality but since it just came out Its too expensive for me, looking at last year's flagships the nexus 6p seems the best of the lot but it's just so damn big and my hands are kinda small. At this point I really cant decide if I should get a 6P in like August or wait a year or so until I can afford the HTC 10.Btw if anybody knows some other reasonably priced 5.2-5.3 inch phone with atleast 3 gigs of ram and a cpu equivalent to a 810 please let me know.

I had an HTC 10, 6P, and S7 Edge all at the same time. I currently only have the 6P and S7 Edge - trying to decide which to keep.
The 10 was a good phone. But here's what killed it for me... the LCD and the size, mostly. The LCD is great for an LCD. But it's still an LCD, and it's terrible compared to OLED. The 6P and S7E are just so much better to look at, even in sRGB modes where they aren't oversaturated. Having pure black is something most people don't appreciate until they see it on a 55"+ TV in front of them. I have a $4,000 4K OLED TV, and I can never go back. The same holds true with even a small smartphone display - you use the display more than anything. It better look damn good. Also, even if I could get past the contrast, there were 2 other major issues I had with it. Number 1, the motion blur was TERRIBLE! It might not actually be that bad in the LCD world, but OLED has practically instant pixel response. That in itself removes a LOT of motion blur until we get 120+Hz smartphone panels - it's coming, just you wait! Also, the 10's display had a pink/red tint to it, 24/7. Holding it next to the 6P or S7E, this was obvious. And after years of having large phablets, I really couldn't go back to using a 5.2" screen.
Everything else about the 10 is something to love. The design is incredible. The camera is great. The DAC/amp are great. The speakers were great. The speed of the device, the factory go-ahead to root/unlock, the fingerprint sensor, the feel in the hand... all awesome. But none of these good qualities could make up for its worst, and that was the display.

Is stock Android a must for you? If the answer is no, then there are already better phones out and more on the way if you want to wait a bit longer.
Also, I know people here don't want to hear this again, but I have severe doubts that the 6P is a 2-3 year phone. It's just not built that way unfortunately to be completely honest. I would keep that in mind while you decide.
No phone is a 2-3 year phone. And if there's one it's the 6P because of the updates policy. Samsung is surely out of the equation in that matter.

Tell Apple, Samsung, LG users, etc that. There are plenty of 2-3 year capable phones out there. How many 2-3 year users there are is an entirely different question.
I still know plenty of people out there with iPhone 4s, 5, Galaxy S4, S5, LG G2 & G3's out there. And not to leave Nexus users out, I still know people with Nexus 5's out there.
So I wouldn't say there isn't one out there. And in my opinion, the 6P won't be one of them. There are already too many threads with issues. Only time will tell on the 6P.
So you had severe doubts that the 6P was a 2-3 year phone, but now you're quoting a bunch of them. I think you're a bit confused.
Any phone can be a 2-3 year phone. Just depends how much the person is a tech fanatic and appreciates the latest and greatest. My buddy is using an S5 still... I couldn't do it, but he never complains.
I've had the 6P for about 6 months and have been very satisfied with it. Coming from the Nexus 5 I was also worried about the size but I got used to it quickly. I'm not sure I would want anything bigger though. If you're wanting a Nexus you could wait for the next one but you never know what they'll do next. I bought my Nexus 5 when I realized the then soon to be released Nexus 6 was going to be so huge.

Honor8 vs OP3 vs iPhone7 vs Samsung S7! Verdict (Indian Version)

With the launch of the much awaited Honor 8 on October 12 in India, the battle among the top flagship smartphones has become even more exciting. While the market has got a new competitor to watch out for, here we open the debate to all by comparing top flagship phones from the current market leaders. Read on to know who takes the cake...

Below table shows the comparison of various technical specifications and pricing for these flagship phones.

Based on the above table, we can clearly see the flagship phones from the top manufacturers around the world. They all boast of high-end specifications and are capable of doing much more than a smartphone is supposed to do. With the launch of Honor 8, the competition just got tougher and Honor 8 is really giving a neck to neck fight to all top guns here with almost half the price than that of iPhone 7 and 60% than that of Samsung S7. The only competitor we have in the price segment is one Plus 3 but Honor 8 definitely outshines OP3 with some quality specs and also from an end user's real life experience. It has a slim profile that redefines design. Icing on the cake is you get expandable storage and dual cameras.
Honor 8 definitely has some additional factors over the other competitors here which makes it a clear winner:
Dual camera with RGB and Monochrome sensors to give more light than iPhone 7 in low light condition
Advance Fingerprint supports NFC and Mobile payment along with additional features like taking photos, answering calls, stop alarms, shows recent app, access notification panel, scrolling through the photos in gallery, opening app etc.
Expandable memory with SD card up to 128 GB
The built-in dual ISP improves focus, speed, and process time while clicking pictures.
Wide aperture mode to redefine the focus even after photo is taken.
The Eye-Care Mode makes looking at your phone more comfortable and safe by filtering part of the blue light to reduce eye strain.
Smart Battery saving modes
A-GPS+GLONASS *
*this feature is present in all of the above listed flagship phone
Design- Honor 8 is stylish, sleek and it looks premium. It uses 2.5D glass in front and back making the device shiny. The Sapphire blue color that honor has launched is just stunning and breaks away from the regular greys and silver colors that most of the smartphones offer.

Battery- There is no match to the battery life of Honor 8 with any other smartphone in the market even with a 4000 mAh battery. Honor 8 is able to stretch the screen on time (SOT) up to 7+ hours easily (few users were even able to touch 8 hours SOT) and that’s the biggest advantage here over any other phone.
Display- With 5.2 inch FHD IPS LCD display and 96% NTSC, every pixel reproduced on Honor 8 looks stunning making it overall a great screen to view the content. With 423 PPI, everything displayed on the screen looks so natural and real. All the images, videos and other content looks so real and vibrant that you can't take your eyes off the display.

Camera-The Honor 8 undoubtedly has the best camera even beating the likes of iPhone easily in its color reproduction and the details in the image. The Honor 8 is the only phone apart from Huawei P9 and the iPhone 7 Plus that offers a dual-camera setup in India and Honor 8 easily beats the camera quality of iPhone, even in low light condition.

Hardware- OP3 comes with tested Qualcomm’s SD820, iPhone with in house A9 chip, S7 with Exynos 8890 and are capable of lag free multitasking, Honor 8 is matches up to their standard being powered by hi-Silicon Kirin 950 processor-- built on 16 nm technology; i5 co-processor coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM is capable enough to do multitasking smoothly. Rapid smart file processing system ensures lag free user experience. This phone wont slow down with time unlike other Android devices.

UI/OS- OnePlus 3 offers a near stock Android experience with OxygenOS, Samsung comes with TouchWiz UI over android, iPhone7 offers iOS whereas the Honor 8 comes with a very intuitive Emotion UI 4.1 over Android Marshmallow. EMUI is feature-rich and provides lot of other options over other UIs and have built in phone manager, harassment filters, traffic manager and various innovative messaging features that really outsmart other UI and their features.

[Verdict] Who Takes The Cake-
Based on various specifications related to hardware, software, battery, design, look and feel, performance, camera and reliability and keeping in mind the price for the large number of users in Indian market, the Honor 8 is an excellent high-end flagship smartphone. For the power users who do not wish to compromise on the performance, look and other aspects of the phone this device is premium yet priced reasonably. Battery life is good, the dual camera produces superior professional quality shots, the fingerprint scanner is excellent and works almost every time and with 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot, there’s plenty of space for apps, photos and music. I give a thumbs up to Honor 8 among the top four flagship phones.

Lookwise its great. But its designed to be slippery - The major Con.

But RAM Management is not good.
Some other Cons for Honor 8 are:
1. Many regions are not having Dual - SIM variant.
2. No FM Radio
3. EMUI Takes more time to release OS updates.
I too have the phone and I like it. But can you please stop with the unnecessary paid promotion now?? Have they really hired you to do all this? Comparison is fine but putting too much effort in your biased comparisons and declaring Honor 8 as the best phone ever is really spoiling the name.

The way you keep posting about honor 8 doesn't really abide to what you are saying. I have been seeing your posts on the honor community too. Stop with the false advertising Man!! It only tarnishes the image of the company.
Its good to like something and be a fan but what does a post like this indicate: "Honor 8 Arrives In India With A BIG Bang!!!"
Its done by either a blogger on his own site or is posted as a paid content on the official site.
While everyone was cursing huawei for the pricing of the phone in india you were one of the few singing praises in spite of the ridiculous and unjustified price.

I'm too one of the user dissatisfied by its high price. Especially the Honor 8 smart which has same specs as 5C is priced double.

well. I kinda like that kind of management. For me my phone is a device to stay connected and I don't use it as a PC. Things like facebook etc. Keep lingering and eat up battery. Better to do away with all this

Its everyone personal preferences that decides whether they needs the mobile or not. let us have healthy discussions saying the Pro's and Con's without targeting a specific person.

It's a good phone look wise as well as specs wise. Wish they had kept the cost at 25K to gain momentum. I own Mate 8 and built quality should be good enough on Honor 8 also.

I can understand if one really gives his/her personal opinions. But let me first tell you why I am pissed (even though I bought the phone). Huawei royallu screwed up the the indian version of H8. No dual sim and highest price as compared to any other market. I can live with that as I don't have any other option. But you still see some hired people praising it with all their might and justifying the price with no reason to back it up. I would never have bought it over OP3 if I didin't get a flat 10% discount.
Moreover, do you think he has all the 3 phones to keep next to each other and compare? Or is it just a specs comparison? IS there even a single photo that looks like it has been taken by this guy to support the comparison? The answer is no.
Check this thread that he has been posting all over and show me even a single similar thread on XDA. And, I am not talking about news items here.

Experience with the device

Hello,
i am looking to buy this device,
is this worth it?
i want you guys to share your personal experience with the device if possible
Its been a very romantic experience for me.
There are tons of reviews all over the web, I suggest you read them.
If you have any specific questions you can ask them here.
It depends on where you live, and how good the deal is. Otherwise v30 is like a finalised design of the G6 and I would wait for it if I could (end sept), of course, by then it'll have other competition
The G6 was DOA when it was released with a 821 processor in a supposed 2017 flagship phone. Consequently sales of G6 are terrible, the good side of this is that G6 prices are falling rapidly. If price is the deciding factor, then G6 is a great option. Otherwise I'd look at oneplus 5 (for development), HTC U11 is a very solid phone, Nokia is about to release a flagship, pixel 2 will no doubt be awesome.
G6 is a pretty good phone, nothing special, nothing bad either...you won't be disappointed or thrilled.
I went to the g6 from the g4. It was sad to say bye bye but the g6 has exceeded my expectations in all aspects. Most notably water resistance, speed, camera, price, and battery life.
My partner has the galaxy s8. They noticed little improvement from the s6(?)! This is a flagship phone and it is cheap!

Have you actually used it? I have a feeling you haven't.
SD 821 is still a top processor today and this phone runs anything i throw at it no lag, no stutter, no problem. I had a chance to "test drive" Galaxy S8 with it's "superior" SoC and i didn't like it at all. The system was stuttery and laggy mess, even after hard reset, and games ran same as on G6. The only difference you're gonna see today is in benchmarks. So in the end G6, even with it's somewhat "inferior" SoC, is a lot smoother and more responsive phone overall.
Having a faster SoC means nothing if your UX is unoptimized and bloated lag-fest - Samsung style.
We may see a difference in 3 or 4 years, when games and apps might actually be more demanding, but not today. Today G6 is the better, smoother runnnig phone that's why, in the end, i choose it over S8 and i'm loving it.
+It has a better camera, better audio quality (and i'm using non-Quad-DAC version), same battery life, better in-hand feel, no ****ty and pointless edge display and is a lot tougher to break.

Yep, using LG G6 to type this.
Agree with all your statements. I didn't say the G6 was bad, it just doesn't have a distinguishing or marketable feature. 821 chip is great but it wont sell phones in 2017, all the other major manufacturers realised this and delayed releasing flagship phones to get 835s.
Unmodified Samsung's are crap but have brilliant development support and as such are easy to mod and developement last years (my first android is the original galaxy which I purchased before the hype and is still has active development). G6 wont be in active development for long, its a simple numbers game.

Well, there's the price. Got it for less than €400 so that certainly distinguishes it from other flagships.
And it's not a particularly good phone I admit, but it's not a bad phone either, certainly not for this kind of money.
it's not a Good phone or a Bad phone. it's a GREAT PHONE.
awesome:
- dual lens & great manual mode
- form factor & industrial design
- flat screen non-Amoled w/natural colours
- QuadDAC
- price
not-as-awesome
- screen may be HDR and DolbyVision ready, but colour accuracy and brightness could be better
- no notification light is a drag -- no way to know if you missed a text, call or email if you don't use Always On Display or wake it to check
- seems that LG spent a lot of time optimizing the cameras (appreciate it, LG!), and less time optimizing the OS (is there a battery drain issue?). for those ppl dissing the SD821 SOC, let's not forget that it's the same guts as the darling Pixel phones, AND also a step up from last year's Galaxy S7/Edge, which many ppl raved about. that said, the 821 just doesn't feel as snappy as it could in the G6 -- not quite like the Pixel experience.

I hope so, but we'll need a few more devs (and a bloody unlock for dual sim) for the G6 to have such longevity. I also have a G1 and developement has slowed to only one dev.
thanks guys for your responses i still haven't decided if i want to buy this device.

You said in a later post that the G6 just has nothing special to compete and I agree with that. But not that the processor has anything to do with it. The average consumer doesn't know or care about the processor in their phone, or most of the other specs that we obsess over. The average consumer bases their decision on much more important factors: 1) what's being advertised heavily; 2) what looks sexy; 3) what will impress their friends; 4) what is prominently displayed at their carrier.
I do feel that the more aggressive pricing we are seeing now counts as a distinguishing feature. If you have the opportunity to show people they can have "just as good" of a phone for half the price, you can sell them. But it's hard to even make that case when people walk in the door wanting an iPhone or GS8 just based on marketing.
Sales are not terrible just not where LG needs them to be. They sold more then 14m G6 devices, yet Goolge didnt even sell 2 million Pixels.
Its a great device I actually switched from the Pixel. I wish the camera was Pixel speed but otherwise I am happy with this device.

Wow that's surprising for a SD 835 device. The LG G6 wins for 2017 unless next month's launch of the even better LG V30! That LG brings so much hype that the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 looks boring. LG optimizes their phone so good that LG G6 camera, smooth UI, and battery life is great and awesome. LG is best.
I got this device to and its awesome !!

Upgrade to s22 ultra?

I know folks miss the note 21 ultra,
Samsung will annouce its S22 ULTRA, SOON
Will you upgrade, and why>?
I'm fiercely debating with myself whether to or not. My deciding factor will be SOT {battery life.)
Every flagship android device at this point (not just Samsung) is starting to lose its identity trying to be the next iPhone. It's not working out for them IMHO. They've eliminated the headphone jack, IR blaster, SD card and now can't even bother to include a charger in the box. The prices have crept up to iPhonesque level on top of this.
But the biggest concern I have is how mainstream flagship android devices' battery life (SOT) have been left behind by Apple's Pro Max flagship series. I'm seeing comparison battery life videos and reviews everywhere where said flagship devices are being dumbed down and compared to just the pro model instead. That's how bad it is. People are getting legit 3-4 days of SOT with the 13 Pro Max and no one here can the say the same for their android/ galaxy devices unless they're rocking the bottom of the mill set like the Motorola G Power..
I wish more people would focus on this and bring it to their attention. As much as I despise Apple, I grudgingly admit that they have pretty much caught up with hardware specs matching their excellent software and now exceeded beyond that. They have class leading camera and video quality and now added out of this world battery life on top of this. If that hideous notch finally goes away as its been rumored with the 14 pro max, I don't see any reason not to finally go to the dark side...
I love my N20 Ultra (everything except the SOT) and use the S-Pen quite a bit so I'll look at the S22 Ultra and its rumored 5000mAh battery performance once its released. I'm not holding my breath though so once the S22 Ultra is released- unless a crazily unbelievable trade in deal valuation isn't offered by Samsung for my Note, this will be my last one.

great reply, man!
We have no idea about the new processor yet
The iPhone a15 processor is a beast in both performace and battery management.
I just got my Note 20 ultra 5G last month and I wont upgrade for a long time. S22 does not bring much of an upgrade, and money does not grow on trees for me
I also have no interest in iPhones at all.

Very good detailed comment. i dont like that Samsung/Android Phones took away IR Blaster and all the good stuff to be like Iphone. i been Always a android person but now seriously thinking about looking else where.... specially if Samsung is really going to take away SD card slot... if they want to take that away they should offer Unlimited cloud storage like google offers with Pixel phones.
Other wise there is no doubt about Iphone's processor being a beast and they are ahead in Camera and SOT.
I'll stay put, my note does everything I ask of it. I don't need 3-4 days battery as every single day I've been alive in my 50 years I've had electricity or means to charge. We've fallen into this cycle that every year or two we need a new phone, thank the carriers for that as is simply not true. I don't need a sports car that can go 200mph, I drive 70-75 as that's what's realistic.
I will go for s22 ultra if there is a sd card slot.
Coming from Asus ROG 3 (and even compared to OP7 Pro}, the battery life of Note 20 ultra is disappointing (I've got the SD variant; heard that Exynos variant battery life is even worse).
5,000 mA battery for S22U sounds better - will await overall device reviews before deciding.

A lot of YouTube videos say no sd card slot, but I really hope s22u like note20u with sd card slot.
I'm guessing it'll have hybrid Dual SIM/SD card slot like its predecessors.
Unless I see something that screams "NO" (Which I really don't expect) I fully plan on upgrading.
No SD Card, no buy.
Will decide once we have the concrete specs. But initially I like it. S22Ultra is practically a Note 20Ultra successor. S naming is just for marketing I think.
No sdcard. nope.... i won't make another Note 5 mistake.
I don't think so. The price wil be high (€1249/€1349/€1449) and the front just looks like the Note 20 Ultra, the S22 Ultra is even 0.1" smaller.
Better camera's, Soc and QHD+/120Hz is nice, but for the high price not worth the upgrade.

For the price that high and no sd card slot, I will still use n20u.
Yup, now that the Note 20 Ultra supports dual sim, I have no need to upgrade. Will be selling my iPhone 12 and Fold 3 now.
I was going to. Spent hours fighting with the Samsung website today. Then I learned that MST is gone. I use Samsung Pay on a lot of old POS machines.
Samsung even pulled the tradeins of the website for a while.
Without MST I have no reason to stick with Samsung. They are just being a pain to deal with.
I just ordered my S22 Ultra. First Galaxy S I've owned since the Note 8 came out. Been Note since then.
My Z Fold 3 is my daily driver, but I keep my N20U around as a backup device on a secondary line. Really wasn't considering trading in, but if you go through Samsung.com and choose TMo, it drops the price of the S22 Ultra 256GB a full $100 cheaper than the other carriers or unlocked. Plus with online activation that knocked off another $50. Trade in for the N20U was $800. It was $600 through everyone else. Brought the price down to $349.
Then I traded in my Galaxy Watch 4 for $120 and used $250 credit toward a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (I missed that physical bezel). After tax, I'm spending $330 for the S22 Ultra and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
This is the first carrier branded device I've purchased in a few years, but it'll be paid off and I can unlock it in I believe 45 days. Flash the factory unlocked firmware for a bloat free experience and I'll never know the difference.
I'll actually keep this one a couple years, unless the S23 Ultra does something just totally amazing. Plus I'll be saving up to get the ZF4 if it's a big upgrade over my ZF3.
So TL;DR - If you're a. TMo customer it's a no brainer. It's only $349. Even less if you go direct through TMo and don't mind the bill credits. I didn't want to deal with Bill credits and the $250 samsung store credit made up the difference in my mind.
