Hi guys I'm new to android and rooting and this seems to be really a noob question. I am wondering if it is possible to flash galaxy s7 to Android Marshmallow rom just like Nexus phones.
Thanks
You mean go back to stock touchwiz firmware? Yes you can. Go to Samobile, download the firmware for your device and flash it with Odin.

Nexus phones run stock aosp roms, if that's what you're asking about, it depends on the phone having unlocked bootloader and root, then you would need a stock Android rom for your specific device, you can't just download any rom and flash it, you kill/brick your phone that way.

Yes thats what i mean.
Thanks for reply. I know there have been several custom roms in the rom forum. So i just want to check if theres a way to flash google rom like nexus.
If we can flash custom roms on galaxy s7 (of course rooted), why cant flash nexus rom?

Because the custom roms are based on Samsung touchwiz. An AOSP Rom needs to be made for the specific device. And that means the developers needs the sources for the phone. In this case the S7. And they are not public on the exynos devices, unlike the Qualcomm. So it's a try and failure. That's why it most like will never be a stable release of AOSP on exynos ( and Qualcomm since they have locked bootloader)

If you flash the Platform + CSC file from the Odin firmware, yes.
But everyone must stay stock (kernel, recovery etc)

Mate, you're on XDA, why bother with OTA's? ^^

so: if google plans rollout to GE edition phone for official release 4.3 of KLP you will receive it also on your standard I9505?
i dont get why this is? thats why there are nexus phone but other phones that you flash like this wont get the ota like a nexus?

Because we are using the exact same I9505G system, kernel, csc, recovery and its official firmware so thats why.

How does this differ from say flashing the stock rom zip and a stock recovery? That way, you'd be on the stock odexed rom, with the stock kernel and the default CSC. No hassling with Odin.
So does that mean we will be able to get the OTA Updates and have a 100% GE S4?
Because my Father would really like the Google Edition S4 but he already got the Standard one and he doesn't know ANYTHING about flashing but if it would be possible to flash he could get the OTA Updates.

OTA will brick your phone atm because the bootloader can't be flashed from the GE on the 9505
so installing the android 4.2.2 google edition (not 4.3 because it is not possible with odin) you still wont receive OTA updates?

Usually ota updates doesn't flash bootloader unless there's a bootloader update ofc. So you can get updates but it's recommended to not do ota updates for your phone. Specially not when it can brick your device but it's you're choice if you want to
wrapping my head around GE
Sorry for the noobness;
I have an i9505; ever since it was announced, I was looking forward to flashing my i9505 into a GE.
Some initial roms have appeared. I just wanted to better understand some of the terms thrown around to make an informed decision;
The ROM seems to be pretty similar between all those who have thrown their hat into the ring: jamal2367, janjan, samuel2607, Hazanwar, m3dd0g, and maybe a few others. Is there any major difference between these ROMs? Q: Should all these ROMs be identical? They all have the same origin, and all are trying to go for the pure/vanilla GE experience
I think each of the ROM modders are using different kernels, or kernels slightly modified. Again; what is the official kernel for GE? is the "stock kernel" for GE the same "stock kernel" for all S4 i9505? My device is Model number SGH-I337M; Kernel v3.4.0-518267; is this the GE kernel? I know kernels can be tweaked to overclock or undervolt a phone, getting performance or better battery, respectively. I'm trying to turn my i9505 into a GE clone. Which kernel should I be looking for?
Some people have mentioned CSC. This is where I'm completely lost. From what I understand, CSC is the way phone manufacturers classify and differentiate phones model for specific countries and specific carriers. Is this correct?
Either way; how does CSC help or hurt my goal of emulating fully a GE phone? Would I need to change the currrent CSC in my phone to a second CSC? What would that accomplish?
also; someone has mentioned recovery. Should I interpret that as the bootloader? are these things related, or the actual same thing referred differently? how does the bootloader (and/or) recovery help me clone a i9595GE?
I have a question. Why are there many people working on GE Rom, and there's no actualy GE firmware (without bugs) like TW firmwares to be flashed on the phone?

there are actually pretty stable (at least the 4.2 one) however why they work on it its mostly due to its easier when you get all the libraries for the device to something they've waited for. pure AOSP can be good if you wouldn't miss the features s4 gives.

Hello guys I have a NB1 bootloader S4 Running AT&T firmware. The model number is SGH-i337 I am rooted and i have safestrap installed. I still have the stock recovery built into the phone which i can still get into with any method. My question is that I want to install pac rom that runs android 4.4.2 kitkat firmware. Is it possible? I really want this rom bad and anyone who helps me would be greatly appreciated. Right now I am running carHD rom. My phone still works like brand new. I am a big fan of the pac rom and i just got the s4 2 months ago, am i too late to install it?
Peace, Jon
We cannot install any firmware that isn't compatible with our kernel. That means only touchwiz based ones will work.

Only when the bootloader gets unlocked, and it won't be anytime soon.
My bank has released a new app which is only available on DVU1ANE1.
What's the best way to get this update with a rooted device? Do I simply download the firmware, remove recovery and flash SuperSU?
Or is there a better way to do this?
Surely there is someone who knows the answer to this seemingly simple request?

I like stock, so it wasn't an option. Needless to say, the ROM selection for the S5 is rather low when it comes to quality. I prefer to stick with a stock ROM.
Anyway, I flashed the official ROM, los root and used Geohots Towel Root. Worked a charm on my G900i.
If any developer has the time, please consider looking into making a cm rom, cause we've managed to get echoe rom working on the Sprint S7.

Idk if it can be done on locked bootloaders that are tw launcher based because Cm is aosp based

True didn't think of that. Hopefully we find a way to bypass that or unlock the bootloader.
The only thing that stops us from having a Cyanogen rom on our phones is our locked bootloaders. It doesn't matter that we have Twiz based OS on our phones cuz when you flash a rom from a custom recovery, it basically writes a whole new OS onto the phone. So whatever OS your running prior to the flash gets overwritten with the new OS.
So the only way we can flash a custom OS is if our bootloaders get unlocked, cuz once that happens we can flash a custom recovery, and from there we can flash whatever rom we want, as long as its made for our phones. First we got to have a working root method, then we have to have our bootloaders unlocked so we can flash a custom recovery, then we can flash away. We have a root method now, so it's only a matter of time until our bootloaders are unlocked. IMO

So wait, I've flashed a custom rom (echoe rom) on the galaxy s7 using flashfire and it works fine, so what would stop Cyanogenmod from working on the Galaxy s7?

That rom is still touchwiz based. Kernel is the same, usually cm/aosp roms use a different kernel or greatly modified kernel.

Ah.
I am having some issues with my device and I am trying to work it out. I would like to know if I can install another S5 Stock ROM on my SMG900T. If so which one would be best and would I do it via Odin?
Please be kind, I understand this question may sound stupid. I have been trying on different XDA threads to figure out what the issue is but I was told what is happening can not happen. So I am trouble shooting the Stock ROM.
I don't think so.... you may get bricked your s5.....
Sent from my SM-G900H using Tapatalk
Ok thanks. I do have to say the S5 is the worst phone I ever had it replaces the Nokia C3 by far. Never should have 'upgraded'.
You can use the FOL1 firmware this is Android 5.1.1 or the GPI1 marshmallow. Both of them worked fine on my G900T. You can look for them on sammobile and flash it via Odin.

You can flash any of these stock ROMs https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900T/ just choose your android version!
Good luck

you can actually flash pretty much any ROM you want as long as you dont Odin a tar.md5 for a different phone. I have a G900P and am using a G900H ROM on it. Just need to stick with a snapdragon based ROM if yours is a snapdragon phone
