[Q] Help please i want to install pac rom so bad - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello guys I have a NB1 bootloader S4 Running AT&T firmware. The model number is SGH-i337 I am rooted and i have safestrap installed. I still have the stock recovery built into the phone which i can still get into with any method. My question is that I want to install pac rom that runs android 4.4.2 kitkat firmware. Is it possible? I really want this rom bad and anyone who helps me would be greatly appreciated. Right now I am running carHD rom. My phone still works like brand new. I am a big fan of the pac rom and i just got the s4 2 months ago, am i too late to install it?
Peace, Jon

We cannot install any firmware that isn't compatible with our kernel. That means only touchwiz based ones will work.

It's any ones guess if and when that would happen.

Only when the bootloader gets unlocked, and it won't be anytime soon.

Can I install cm 11 or a stock kitkat rom that does not have touchwiz on my NB1?

I have a att s4 sgh-1337 with android 4.4.2. baseband version 1337UCUFNB1. I'm trying to put on CM 11. or another rom that looks like stock android with no touchwiz and 100% working and stable. if I downgrade to android 4.3. can I then root, install CWM recovery, and install CM 11?
what would happen if I booted into android system recovery and installed the cm 11 rom for my phone?

Short answer: No. You'll void your warranty and bootloop.
As for 'stock android look', I can recommend PurifieD or Google Play Edition ROM although it has a few bug that I'm going to work on once this semester ends..

No CM for now. You cannot replace the stock recovery. The only working recovery we have is safestrap.
You can use DVKM Tool and install BlackBox3.0 (Check post 3 of All things ATT thread)
thanks. hm, don't know what I should do. I bought this phone last week used on ebay so I dont think I have a warranty to void. another reason I wanted CM is so i could easily get updates. I dont really want to be messing with roms all the time. do you guys think cm will work soon? in the next few months? maybe I should stick with what I have till that happens. I'd rather wait for that then cause my self more headache.
does PurifieD come with the stock kitkat widgets?

No, probably not. The i337s bootloader is locked so we can't flash kernels. A lot of devs have moved onto newer devices so I doubt anything new will happen. And I'm not sure what the stock kitkat widgets are.

what android version would the i337 need to have to be able to install cm 11? 4.2.x ? I'm thinking of asking the guy I bought mine from to see if he has any others that still have an older android version that would let me install cm on.

You'd need 4.2.2, mdb or mdl bootloader and firmware

will the att update automatically install if I connect to wifi?
Yes, it'll update on its own unless you root and delete or freeze the system update app.

hm. Im not sure how to have the seller check for me then. if the phone has android 4.2.2, it should be on mdb or mdl, right?
Or it might have MF3. To find out, just go into Settings > About Phone (if the phone is complete stock unrooted, then the build number/baseband should match the boot loader)

ok, thanks. i dont think the seller knows if its stock. if the phone got connected to the internet and updated automatically would the android version number change and baseband/build numbers?

[Q] ROMs for the KK update

After updating to KK and installing safestrap i have the option to create roms so I am just wondering if anyone is working on roms for the KK update because I wouldn't mind testing some of them. :victory:
Thank You

well i usually download my apks on my pc then put it to my sdcard......but before that i also installed busybox, then i installed safestrap and i believe i had to do i twice because the first time i didn't get the safestrap boot menu. then everything is almost the same like the older safestrap except now i can have 16gb of memory reserved for one rom :victory:
You have to have root first correct? I have not found a method for root yet. Any ideas or pointers? Every android device I have, except this one, it's rooted

Ya then you might be screwed, unless someone finds a way around it so you and many other people can root their phones.......if i were you i would try to mess around with the rooting options that i linked previously or check this out:
http://www.ibtimes.com/android-442-...-3-lte-sm-n9005-new-xxuenb7-firmware-tutorial
Also try doing some research on how to root a note 3 4.4.2
Hope that helps
Thanks

There are a few KK Roms that developers are posting in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Android Development Forum. I'm currently on Bajasur's BajaRom Build 14 and it's running very smooth.

[Q] Upgrade 4.3 with root

My bank has released a new app which is only available on DVU1ANE1.
What's the best way to get this update with a rooted device? Do I simply download the firmware, remove recovery and flash SuperSU?
Or is there a better way to do this?
Surely there is someone who knows the answer to this seemingly simple request?

I like stock, so it wasn't an option. Needless to say, the ROM selection for the S5 is rather low when it comes to quality. I prefer to stick with a stock ROM.
Anyway, I flashed the official ROM, los root and used Geohots Towel Root. Worked a charm on my G900i.

[Q] [QP] Can I flash roms?

Hi all, I am fairly new to this whole rooting process for android devices, since i have just recently purchased a galaxy s4 from at&t. Just a few days ago, i've decided to root my device, and after hours of researching i came across geohot's towelroot program and successfully rooted my GS4!. Now i want to install a custom rom, and i would like to know what kind of custom recovery can i use? and am i able to install the cyanogenmod 11? I have downloaded the cyanogenmod installer and it says my device is not supported, but i read on their wiki that i can install it manually but i don't know if my current build is supported by Clockworkmod, or even TWRP for that matter. I havn't flashed any roms by the way and i don't plan on doing so until i am almost certain that i can flash it without bricking.
I am running kitkat 4.4.2 Samsung SGH-I337, my baseband/build number is I337UCUFNC1
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
We have a locked bootloader. So, stock kernel and recovery cannot be replaced. The only recovery we have is safestrap.

Ahh that sucks thanks for the info. Hopefully they will find a way to unlock it in the future so I can install the cyanogenmod.

[Q] Updated my AT&T S4 to 5.0.1, what now?

Everything is all good, running stock. I wasn't able to do much other then use odin to update. Now I'm in a pickle. No root and I don't know how to get any kind of recovery installed. So much is out of date that one forum will say something works even though it no longer does. I could maybe use odin to get back to an older version if it doesn't brick, maybe then I can't start over? I need root and I would like to have a CM12 nightly but I don't know where to begin. Is there anything I could do?
You could use guut13's guide found in the general forum. You can have rooted oc3 to remove bloat and do other things, and if you install safestrap while still on 4.4.x, you can use it to do some stuff before you update. But nothing specific to 5.0.1 is available yet.

I'm in the safestrap recovery can I install CM12 from here?
download cyanogenmod Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) - jflteatt / nightly
Is this the right one, it wont let me add links
I've done a lot of this with a sprint S3 but I never had to deal with a locked bootloader before.
I'm guessing locked bootloader means only modified stock. Is that true? I figured if I could get a recovery on there, then I would be golden.
