Hey guys,
I just bought the moto x pure on Amazon.com and I have been using it for last several days.
I'm experiencing some noticeable lag while using it. Browsing, gaming and even the YouTube videos are jittering.
2nd thing, the battery doesn't last even a day. Same usage on other phones like ZTE z7 mini I had before.
I have the most recent software.
Is there any thing to do about it?
All reviews I saw said the phone is very snappy...
You give no details on what you are running.
I'm running stock rom, no root.
First big question... Are you using adoptive storage (sd card seen as internal memory)? This has been confirmed by many to cause the lag you are experiencing.
For battery life there are too many reasons to list as to why you are not getting all day battery life. What apps are running in the background? What do you have syncing? What is your SOT? When you got your phone did it have KK and receive the OTA to Android M? If so did you do a hard reset? These are just some of the main questions. If you have only had it a few days, it may just be a matter of letting things settle in. Run a full charge down to ~10% - 15% and recharge fully a few times and see where that takes you.

Hey,
I'm not using SD card at all.
I'm getting around 3 hours SOT, even less.
I'm syncing gmail, exchange accounts and WhatsApp. Nothing else.
My friend bought it to me so he might of done OTA, I haven't received and OTA since.
Las the night I went to sleep with 40% battery and woke up with 7%.
I got the xt1575 and i'm using it in Israel , it might be a modem issue that causes the drain?
Can i install xt1572 software on top of my device?

Sorry but adoptive storage does not cause lag.
Op you should do a factory reset and see if the problems persist. I would suggest rooting so you have more control over your device.

If you use a slow SD card for adoptive storage you will get lag in at least some apps if they are installed to the SD card. This problem has been reported by many users across Android devices on marshmallow. Using a fast sd card will cut it down dramatically but if an app is installed to the SD card, at best the load times will still be slightly slower.

OK but adoptive storage is not causing the lag, the SD card is.

Point taken. If the SD card the is not fast enough, it will not work well if used as internal memory under adoptive storage. And just to be more clear, even a fast SD card may not get rid of all lag dependent upon factors such as manufacturing defects or true speeds versus advertised speeds.

Seems something is keeping your phone from going into Doze mode, which explains that overnight drain. Google Now and the background stuff it does can cause a lot of drain. Also, turn off GPS when you aren't using it. If you are in a low signal area, turn on airplane mode and it will stop scanning for stronger signal. Definitely some wakelocks going on the background too.
Location might be on. My moto x I recently bought actually lasts a long time I'm suprised

Im noticing my battery is draining faster than when I had froyo anyone else noticing this.its very disappointing .im using it just how I used it on froyo and it barely last through half the day. And should I use a task killer, droid life said it would save me more battery if I didn't use one

You might want to recalibrate your battery. I am getting much better life on gingerbread. Definitely do not use a task killer. Android is designed to keep the programs you use most in memory and drop the ones that aren't. Even the ones on memory won't be using much power.

We just updated my wife's DX to the Gingerbread OTA this morning. (We are running stock)
My wife showed me that her battery was down to about 40% today, when normally she is around 70% by the end of the day.
I don't have CWM on her phone (if I should be resetting data as mentioned above).
Is her battery draining faster, or is it just a battery recalibration issue?
If we need to recalibrate, what should we do without CWM?
Thanks ...

The battery is likely draining faster. It's an issue discussed by many others. I have questionable battery issues following the upgrade. My usage patterns haven't changed, but my battery life seems slightly worse. Moto is aware and hopefully will fix relatively soon.

Yes, and so far the suggestions revolve around disabling any sort of syncing/polling apps, turning down screen brightness, turning off 3G radio and living life with only WiFi, doing a factory reset, and a few others. Some believe it's a 3G signal issue and the radio bumping the power to compensate. I'm betting on this as the phone does get quite a bit warmer when using the 3G radio. Realistically, the only real solution will come from Moto when the issue is fixed.
Motorola claims the DroidX has 480 minutes talk time and 220 hours standby!

Definitely not since the GB update. Might have been able to get that before if you remove all widgets, syncing/pushing apps, and only turn the screen on to dial a phone number.
On a side note, I broke down and bought the extended battery and I seem to be getting worse battery life now than before Time to exchange it or get my money back.
I am experiencing the same fast drainage and excessive heat. I am more than ready for a fix & root.

Just updated to 2.3.3 today and my battery is doing a lot better than on froyo. im unrooted
I was having a similar issue with the battery draining and the phone feeling warmer that usual after I first updated. I fired up OSMonitor and found that there was a motorola service running nonstop at like 20% CPU usage. Found out it was trying to sync my exchange account but couldn't connect. I manually went in to the mail app and refreshed; it sync'd my account and the problem was solved. Great battery life ever since.
Don't know if this is a similar issue that other people are having, but hopefully it helps someone.
I had the same problem (battery would drain in a few hours and the phone would get very hot) and could not determine the problem.
After a few days I tried the "Droid Factory Reset"
under: Reset instructions for DROID X on 2.3 Gingerbread Android:
motorola-global-portal dot custhelp dot com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48517/~/droid-x---factory-data-reset
It worked. The battery life went back to what it had been before the update, or at least to something similar. Of course, all the data and apps were wiped.... but it was a perfect trade off for having a phone that worked once again.
Just waiting for the Gingerbread OTA Root!
funny, cause when i go through privacy to factory data reset and get all the way to the final button to erase everything...the damn button does nothing. Doesnt work.
it's fine cause i can just boot into android recovery and do it there, but wtf.
this OTA GB has been pretty bad thus far. lots of lost functionality such as extended controls / power control widget, task killer widgets...none of them work.

I can now say with some degree of certainty that I have fixed the KK battery drain heating issue and it does make sense and my thoughts on google profiling seem to be correct just that I didn't realise this particular issue could be disabled in settings.
Symptoms of problem
1. Phone not sleeping (staying warm on standby)
2. Not Charging correctly (longe time or not able to charge)
3. Media Server staying active (scanning SD card worse if you have large external SF loaded with files)
4. Sluggish performance
Simple cure
Go to settings/accounts/google/Ads and tick box for "opt out of interest based Ads"
also note that the long named folder on your internal and external sd similar to this .hgsdgfasfueuedhfyjei is your ads id that google uses to profile your content - this process requires that google scans your files and if you have nearly 80gb then it causes obvious problems, this folder only appeared after upgrade to KK
Let me test and I'll let you know if it work.
Thanks for the tip.

yes there may be other causes which I may also have mentioned here, google has admitted there is an issue with the camera module and apps that call it like Skype - to be fixed in 4.4.3
I have worked with this problem now for weeks and this is the first major step in finding a complete solution for my Z1 - give it a while before you denounce it, you may have apps that are not written for KK that can cause issues - I have already ruled them out and was still left with a serious problem - the Ads setting fixed it 100%, I am now gradually installing apps again
This is a complex problem
I found out that deactivating wifi optimization will help a bit with heat and battery.

Thanks Geoffxx you are right that this is a very complex problem and Google should have issued a fix long before now but when they do how long will it be before Sony release it? Also why have Google bought these new security measures in knowing that a lot of the apps on their app store are not compatible and it will cripple a lot of their users phones?

I don't really have a battery drain issues, and occasionally the phone gets quite warm after I have used it for a while.
I do have a 64G external SD which is nearly full, and I do suffer from sluggishness sometimes. It was like in the 2.2 days where you get occasional jerkiness while scrolling. Never had these problems before 4.4.
Also, it takes a long time for the call screen to go off after I terminate a call - don't think this has anything to do with this ads stuff, but ...

everyone has different configurations apps setting attachments etc - in my case I had SW2 (with it's apps) apps that I had installed over the years from XZ which I like to use - 64gn Ext SD installed
I worked for weeks to try and cure this issue since KK release, hours of deleting/disabling apps processes - wiping my phone completely - removing the ext sd card and reformatting, then scanning all the files with various tools and putting them back on the SD
sometimes I got a result and the phone would calm down for a day but then returned with a vengeance, it reached a point were the only way I could charge the phone in the dock was to turn it off as the charger didn't have enough to compensate for the drain
the issue always seemed related to the ext SD if I unmounted the card it vastly improved but still wasn't just quite right, the clear indication that a problem existed was the heat and the mediaserver using 40% of battery
I am very protective of my data and my privacy and opt out of everything possible - no clouds - no syncs - don't use FB or twitter - all google/sony social stuff is disabled as much as possible but the one I missed was the Ads setting in accounts/google not sure if it existed in 4.3 - once I ticked that box my phone is 100% normal, I have installed my apps back again and everything is still running smooth and cold, my phone can now go 2+ days without needing recharged which is much better than <6 hours
It is fixed 100% and I can say that with complete confidence
If you still have an issue then here are the steps I would advise
remove all installed hardware - check
Remove all user installed apps - check
if still have a problem do a repair update with PCC
return device to sony to check for hardware fault
PS forgot to mention - no need to delete those long folders .hhfdhfhsysyfghshsusd they will keep coming back

Sorry to hear about battery draining issues.
This is actually something that works on my phone, but i have however noticed a decrease in batterylife and i havent changed anything.
But fully charged 5 in the morning and modest use to 15:00(some msg, music and so on). after that i use it like nonstop with the screen on and at about 21:00 the battery says about 10%. i think that is pretty good.
Hey Guys,
I have a nexus 6p the 64 gb version ,and its one of the greatest phones I have ever owned. Everything about it is great, unfortunately the past couple of weeks my phone battery started to drain extremely fast. My phone now doesn’t last a full day and it constantly overheats. I’m a very heavy user, I almost do anything electronically on my phone, but before the battery drain my phone didn’t overheat nor its battery drained that fast.
There is no apparent reason why this is happening, I did not change my frequency or intensity using my phone. But I think there is possible reasons:
-Google latest update
- Charging my phone BRIEFLY with a non-certified type C cable (I didn’t know there was an issue with those cable before)
- A certain application that runs in the background (phone is always warm and when on usually overheats even if just browsing)
One of the great things I admired about my Nexus was its long lasting battery life and rapid charging. I’m really disappointed, I really liked this phone and wanted to last. Please if anybody faced the same issue or have any suggestions, solutions etc, please share. I have attached a report showing my battery use.
Thanks Aalot
**my phone is not rooted or anything it’s just plain stock android
The first thing I would have pointed out, is a custom kernel, tweaked inappropriately. But you ruled that out.
Now since your device is not rooted, there are not much ways to track the drain. I certainly believe that, there is a specific app that is causing the drain.
First of all, thanks for your response.
A small percentage of the battery is consumed by apps the rest is for the screen

I just got mine last Thursday and I'm also a little disappointed with the battery life. When I set up the phone, there were 3 or 4 google updates and the phone only lasted for less than 8 hours. I'm thinking it's due to the whole set up process.
I did a hard reset due to missing wifi passwords and I'm currently monitoring the battery drain.
Coming from OnePlus One, the battery life on this is really disappointing. But then again, I always have my anker battery charger with me. I'm hoping once the apps settle, battery life should improve.

Go to Settings >Battery and see what is causing it. It may be an app that you updated. Try wiping cache or uninstall/install the updated app. If still draining, you may have to factory reset from boot and install apps one at a time instead of restoring backup.

Same here. Tired of this sutuation already, sometimes it works properly 1-2 % even 0 on morning, but sometimes it loses 10-15 %, I didn't install any new applications in monthes, it just started.
I've stock Axon 7 and nothing is modified or unlocked. After Noughut update last week my phone is have number of issues
1) Bluetooth seems to be unreliable and it sometimes works and something wont
2) Cannot play audio on any of FB or youtube videos for some reason.
3) Phone hangs from time to time while using Whatsapp and speicifically if I try to take a picture when inside Whatsapp it makes whole phone freeze.
4) Overall performance of phone seems to be slower compared to how it was prior to update.
I've 15GB of remaining space on my internal memory and more than 70GB of space on my Sandsik microSD card. So not sure why phone is behaving bit odd.
Anyone else having similar issues after latest update on their Axon 7 ?

Maybe the next update will be more favorable. Brave souls to install a major OS update. I'm still unsure what to run on mine. For now, might just stick to MM for the next few months until things stabilize with 7.
I would say to backup your internal storage to the SD card and factory reset your phone. Not fun to do but I bet it will help.

Bluetooth is solid, audio plays perfectly, I took and sent pics in whatsapp to see if anything happened, all good. This is my first post on the xda forms so sorry for any conveniences
There must be an app or something constantly running and draining battery, check the battery stats and it might give you a hint at what's up.
My guess is that whatever it is, backing up and doing a factory reset should solve your troubles. It might seem like a hassle but it usually is the best way of solving issues, especially after an upgrade.
