OOS 3.0 crackling sound in earphones/headset - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello !
I updated Yesterday, and I have ONE issue on my OP2 : on the highest levels, the sound in my earphones is cracking, kinda distorted, I can ear my music, but the bass are crackling !
Does anybody have this issue ? Is there a fix ? Thanks in advance !
Oh, and for the information, I am on stock OOS 3.0, I just rooted it, nothing else installed !

So what you're saying here is that there are bugs in the beta build? Shocking news ?
Skickat från min ONE A2003 via Tapatalk

I experienced the same thing. OOS3 has really bad audio quality. I reverted back to OOS2.

I would suggest you install Viper4Android . The sound is way better . You will instantly love it. And i played the audio on the highest level and no distortion as such.
This thread will help you on how to install Viper4Android.

Yeah, I tried with Viper. It made some difference but not enough. The sound felt really flat compared to all my other devices. OOS3 was also unusable for med due to the data dropping as soon as I used WIFI.

Still, wait for the official release of OOS3, it might have less bugs.

Dude its beta built obvious there are bugs [emoji14]

in PowerAMP, equalizer settings and attempt to download everything shown in the picture? down everything, you may find it then I can think of nothing but sorry.
Lol why you need to have it on max volume?!? If 60-70% is good then have it on 60-70%.

Note 3 video recording crackling sound issues

Well hello there,
it seems like the Note 3 also has the crackling sound issues of the S4, meaning, you record a video and get some popping noises and crackling every once in a while.
Compare it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317900&page=10
Here are some examples:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/samsung...478712-videoaufnahme-knackser-stoertoene.html
Now does anyone know where this comes from and how to fix it? Is there any fix at all?

How is that possible that no one here is affected while in a german board almost everyone have this issue, also with S4?

Popping sounds when skipping tracks and in recorded video playback

I've spoken to multiple people about this. And even at Samsung stores and tele retailers they day its not normal. Bit so many people are having the issue... Could it be software? Do an of you guys have a factory note 3? Not romed by a carrier? Or has anyone got a custom rom installed and did that make a difference?
I'm still in your 30 day ELF and I'm not sure if I need to get it replaced. It's weird.
I even got pops when I skip tracks in music players if I'm running through an auxiliary cable. Not through headphones. This issues has really stumped me. Usually you can single out something but I can't with this. I want to root and install a custom rom but if that doesn't work, I have to restore to get back to factory to return it...
Thanks in advance guys.

Yes. I noticed that the popping sound only occurs when I'm tapping my screen while recording. Seems popping sound is the tapping sound recorded. Maybe the microphone is very sensitive to even record our screen tapping sound. Just a thought though

It would be nice if this new firmware would solve the problem. I'm still a bit suspicious.
Anyway, my italian no brand phone does not find any new updates from samsung's servers....

CM11/Aosp sound distortion fix

This is my first contribution to XDA, if it helped you please click the thanks button.
Hey guys,
I've seen many people who go back to Sense or GPE Roms cuz of the sound distortion we experience with our m7 & m8 models.
I mean come on, we audio freaks buy this phone for its amazing sound quality & screen quality.
Anyway, I've attached some screenshots to this thread with my settings to Viper4Android (V4A).
Note: this will work on S-on & S-off devices & all Roms without boomsound/Harman kardon.
It's just a application so don't worry hehe.
Download viper4android apk & install it.
Choose the highest quality sound & reboot.
After you rebooted your device just copy my settings.
Tick the 3 dots on your upper right corner & go to UI settings and choose expert.
Why do people always want people to click the thanks button so badly that it is enlightened in red underlined text ! They press it when they press it......

Download the "Creative X-fi extreme fidelity" IRS pack there is a 128 free version cause you need to apply the "Creative X-Fi acoustic" in the impulse response for the convolved.
Here are screen shots you will not be disappointed
Some songs may need a little adjusting all you have to do is adjust the extra loud settings a little either up or down a notch but these are the starting point and extra loud IMHO is all that needs to be messed with
Useful, thank you very much.
I just got my bottom speaker broken. At first, V4A worked fine. Then, I played the "My Boy! Free" GBA emulator and the sound also worked. I turned to standby and when I resumed the app, there was a sound that became louder and louder until it broke the bottom speaker. The sound did not come from the game. A combination of issues must have caused it.
Maybe V4A is to blame for the damage. Under normal settings it worked just fine, but this unknown bug caused a sound that was way louder than it should have been.

V4A is not to blame but it could have been that the V4A stopped processing when you had turned what ever it was on stand by.

Video Audio Concerts Distorted

When recording in loud situations for example me and my friend we got the very same phone S Galaxy Note 3, went to this EDM concert and we both took a couple of videos, hes got original stock rom and i have rooted custom rom, his recording was really good on the bass audio but mine was unbearable on the sound it was really distorted all the way through when the bass comes, and i have tried a couple of roms now but with the same outcome, so i was just wondering what could be causing this, and how to fix this...? Headphone audio crackling?

Just a stab in the dark here, but coming from an iPhone, the headphone audio on this device seems below par. At low levels and all volume levels really there is an audible hissing or static sound on any form of audio. The only way to reduce this is by using my Bose headphones for some reason. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this? Thanks.
I just need to know of my phone is defective or not really. So if anyone could test and let me know, I would appreciate it

Okay, I may change rom from stock then... Is this likely to be a software issue?
Also, is the rom/kernel setup you use faster than stock?

Not sure if this is the same as yours but I use V4A on mine and I do get crackling noises every now and then. But on EX and franco kernels its much worse. I get massive amounts of stuttering which lags the audio as well. So far I believe its due to the CPU governor behaviour as well as soundboost options you get from those kernels.
But I believe the main reason could be that Nuplayer is default on marshmallow and doesnt work well with V4A. Eh, its weird how custom kernels are the only ones that have this issue. To answer your question about roms, I use SinLess, which is miles faster than stock and rock solid. I suggest you give it a try.
Also about audio, I suggest you give V4A (Viper4Android) a try. You'll never think of your iPhone again lol. My current driver is a Sennheiser IE80 and once you tune up V4A on your device, it sounds like an audiophiles dream.
Thank you for the advice, I will use that exact setup and try it out!!
What I meant by my audio issue is that all the time there is a background hiss in the sound, no matter what headphones I use. Hoping a V4A will fix this
Is the headphone volume loud enough? Do you use in-ear headphones?

I'm on stock odex rom, same one that comes with this phone and I use Google music and have zero crackling sounds. I do not get this experience the other person speaks of with ElementalX kernel. Everything is clear and I raise volume with the devs app Ex kernel manager and you couldn't get sound more clear. V4A is nice, I used it the entire time I had Nexus 6 and worked well. Haven't cranked it just yet on 6p but I will soon. There are quite a few write ups on V4A over on Nexus 6 section. We had many devs work hard on it to get it just right and they did. I'm going to cruz over there and see what I can find later today. Good day to all.

I, too, have experienced some sort of "crackling" on my Nexus 5 after I upgraded to Marshmallow. I don't know whether you experience the same issue as I did, but just in case you do the problem is basically as follows:
Google has been trying to reduce audio latency across Android versions. Marshmallow is no exception. At least what the Nexus 5 is concerned I believe Google has hit (overshot) the latency that is currently achievable with the combination of hardware and software architecture without causing audio dropouts.
If you look at the audio HAL and the audio mixer, there are two types of audio playback paths available
deep buffer
low latency
Audio playback selects the "low latency" path which has been shrinking over the last few versions of Android.
As far as I know, there is only one thing you could try without seriously messing with the audio HAL. Try to add the following line to your build.prop followed by a reboot:
Code:
audio_hal.period_size=480
This will increase the allowable audio latency for "low latency" applications to its maximum value. This means, of course, that latency-critical apps such as VoIP apps or synthesizers, will see an increase in latency. This may or may not matter to you. CPU governor settings may also be able to help reduce audio dropouts.
(As an aside, I would really suggest for audio playback applications that are not latency critical, such as streaming, to make use of the "deep buffer" path instead to avoid audio dropouts. But that is up to the ROM developer.)
Good luck.
I will give this a go. Thank you for the detailed response, I will let you know how I get on!!
Just a thought, why would nobody else notice this though? It is incredibly noticeable to me coming from an iPhone

I just got my phone yesterday, & I haven't tried any headphones, but it seems to me if you are not getting the issue on one pair of headphones, that it must be the headphones and not the phone itself. I don't think your headphones have any kind of software or something running in them that would actually stop the crackling.
Either way, welcome to Android and XDA, and I hope you have fun!
