Hi I just updated to oxygenos 3.0 and my cellular network seems to be quite bad compared to before. On my battery status, it used to be all green now it's mostly orange. Is this a bug or something wrong with my phone?
EDIT: Btw I think i have this bad cellular network issue on marshmallow custom roms as well
Yep, same here, almost all bar is yellow. Must be the ROM.

tried it with 2g signal, still the same for me I think its a glitch because when my phone is on standby the bar goes yellow which means that it receives bad signal during deep sleep. Or it could just be a software error and not optimised
Same here, I am also using 2G
Same problem with me here

This is a Doze(tm) function to save battery by decreasing energy used for modem signal, thus also decreasing signal strength. Just like uapsd saves energy with wifi devices when they're not actively used.

I understand doze restricts background refreshing of apps but if this weak signal is a 'feature' how come the battery is still draining?

I guess it's not quite that easy. For me, I lose about the norm which is 1% in one hour on standby as long as WiFi is disabled. I think the most common power thief is apps and WiFi/bluetooth scanning for those who hasn't already disabled these, quite useless features workout a micro nuclear reactor driving your phone ?

Any suggestions? The Android System is taking up most of my cycles, but when I go into it, it shows that the phone is barely kept alive.
I don't know what else to do.
Having the exact same issue.
Try one day using nothing but 3G, you may be surprised at your battery life.
I'm still on Froyo, and since that was released (stock or custom rom doesn't matter) my battery life takes a nose dive with Wifi.
Back on Eclair, Wifi was my battery life saver. Now with Froyo, 3G is my life saver. Weird stuff.
Problem is I live in a weak 3G area (signal you see is with the older Airave which doesn't do data), and I may have a problem getting a good data signal.
That said, I will try it tomorrow and report back.
haveing the same problem wether im on 3g or wifi. froyo i had pretty good battery life all around.

The old airave does data. Its only 1x but it is data.
I left work at 4:30, it's 5:07. My battery still says 100%. This is insane.

If you're in an area with bad signal, that will absolutely kill your battery. There is a place I have to go to for business quite often near an airport, and I don't get good reception there. I don't have much of a choice but to turn off data when I'm in the building or my phone will constantly drain at a rate similar to yours.

I have an Airave though, so signal shouldn't be an issue.
what i don't get is why is the android system showing to be so battery hungry, while display is almost nothing, in my experience from froyo the display is the main battery eater not the android system. i have had my display on for 35 min in the last 2 hours and it shows 2% use from display and 77% from android system

Could it be the "DRM Content" service preventing the phone from propperly sleeping? Also, have you tried the old trick where you put your phone in airplane mode, then back to normal? For some reason it *used* to make the Epic recieve a better signal, and draw less power because of it.

The TWS (time without service) bug existed because for some reason the radio was searching for a GSM signal too. Even though our phone is CDMA and on a CDMA network, our radio would search for the GSM signal upon boot. This in turn caused the TWS to display ~50-51% and drain the battery incredibly fast.
This happened with each reboot of the phone. Toggling airplane mode manually refreshed the settings for the radio, which turned off that GSM signal search.
It may be worth a shot to check that. Open the cell standby option on the battery statistics page to see what your TWS % is at.

My theory is that it is now optimized for gpu and logs the display maintenance processes under Android System. Or something they did makes the display less power hungry.

i seriously thought it was a mistake at first so used to seeing the display eating something like 90% of my battery use. they must have changed the way they measure things radically, i still feel like i get better battery use now with legendary rom than i ever did with froyo.
Freeze DRM content. How much % of the time are you logged without signal? (According to your battery stats) try a day with 3G off. You'll still be able to make calls, and receive texts with 1x service with 3g deactivated. Increase account refresh intervals to something less frequent, same with any widgets you may be using.
I'm seriously *this close* to writing up a guide so we can all get the best out of our battery, I just need time, can't atm, working what I can to make ends meet.

I'm right there with you. I was getting horrible battery life with EC05 so I decided to give GB a shot since so may people were reporting good results.
I'm getting about 6 hours max. I can't make it through the day at all.
Sucks.
And not only that, but I still have the issue where the battery displays incorrectly. If I reboot the phone while at 75%, it will say it's down to 15% after reboot. I know this was a bug with EC05 and you just had to reboot while plugged in to remedy this but it's such a pain.
I had terrible battery life with EC05.
I did the update.zip method because I'm impatient. My device bootlooped as a result. Had to do factory wipe/reset...and now, battery life is great, far better than EC05 was.
I believe the trick was the factory reset and start over. I'm still getting emails, and have FB, Twitter and G+ running like before (manual updates) but the battery lasts the day no problem. If you do a reset and then restore from backup, you're potentially putting back the problem, that's why I did it the hard way (aside from it being unplanned!)
GB seems to handle weak signal areas much better now. With EC05, my phone would get hot when I was at my desk, and that usually wiped out the battery in short order. That doesn't seem to happen with GB.
One common thread I've heard amongst Android owners is that if you start running into battery life issues you can't explain, use the nuclear option...wipe/reset to the OOB (out of box) condition and then manually rebuild. I've heard of good results using this method, and I seem to be one of them.
I am actually getting decent battery life.
I normally rely on WIFI, so that is the probably the reason why my phone lasts around 14 hours. Try turning off push notification for facebook. Also it could be a bad flash. One time I had bad flash with SRF1.2, it made my phone hot all the time and battery was draining 10% per hour even when I had it screen turned off.
For those with poor cell signal, make sure your wifi is set to never sleep. I'm on the stock deodexed rom and getting much better battery life than ever before on this phone. Had it 12 hours off charger with 3 hours of screen on and still had 20% battery left.
To the Op, there is definitely something wrong with your results. Are you using ei22 modem? Which rom? Seems like some service is eating away at you battery but I'm not sure how to tell which one. My phone also shows android system as the highest power draw, but I am getting great battery life.

On Froyo and GB, I get worse battery life on wifi when I set it to never sleep...
Hi, guys.
The below images were taken from my I9023 having Oxygen 2.3.2 (at the moment). Standard, no kernel change, no cpu setting change, just plain Oxygen.
Light use: 30 mins on the phone / day, checking emails, news, updating weather, at least 1 hour on wifi per day.
For me battery life it's important so i was wondering if anyone can come up with something better regarding battery life. Maybe another ROM ....
I know it's highly relative to personal use, but would like to hear some opinion on this.
Thanks.
Have a nice weekend all.

I have used CM7, CM7 mv, and Oxygen(the most stable), all of them with the same battery life.
Kernel I use Lucid 2.1y, BLN, no setcpu, stock 100-1000Mhz
I must say that I use my data "on demand" it is always off unless I want to check emails, look for directions, surf something, etc. I have a toggle in the status bar for data (autosync is ON always).
I use most of the time 2G unless I need to surf the web.
I use auto brightness also.
Using my HTC HD2 in the same way I can't pass the 2.5 days mark. so the truth is that NS has a pretty good battery life.
which one is better for battery life time?
i9023 or i9020? thanks!!
Would like to know if everyone's experiencing better or worse battery life on mm vs nougat official release

No unfortunately not. But after a factory reset it never came back in such a huge way, before the factory reset it suddenly appeared on top in the usage list with 45% usage, dropping my phone's battery from 90% to 40% in less than 1 hour.
My settings aren't really special, I only use sync when my phone is charging (regular charging, I don't ever use fast charging), I don't use AOD, Location or NFC, and I have disabled pretty much everything that can be disabled through the phone itself, without using a package disabler. Also, my screen resolution is on 720P.
