What 3rd party keyboard are you using? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I'm just wondering what keyboard everyone is using. The only reason I'm curious is because my favorite keyboard which is Swift Key doesn't work to well with the Edge display. The keys that are on the edges sit on the edge part of the display making them easy to miss.

i disagree. i use swiftkey also, and my keys on the edge work just fine. i haven't had a single problem with them. also, for some reason, swiftkey's predcitive type has really gone downhill in the last year. it use to be spot on, and now it seems to mess up many words i type. but it is still my preferred until some other keyboard can show me a reason to switch.

I'm still using Swiftkey, and have no problems with the keys that are on the Edge.

I came from a BlackBerry Z30, so I use the BlackBerry keyboard. Personally I think BlackBerry hs always had the best keyboards, and I swore I'd never use a virtual keyboard...until I used theirs. I've tried a few other VKBs, but nothing comes close to BlackBerry. I know this is a totally subjective topic, BTW.

Maybe I'll give it another shot. I just remember hitting the #2 every time I tried hitting the #1. Maybe it was because it was my first day with the phone and I was still getting used to the whole edge thing.

I'm using swype, works great even in the edges.

SwiftKey. Works fine for me.

I also have the same issue with SwiftKey - keep pressing the wrong keys when they are ont he edge. Perhaps it depends on OS firmware or version? I have Exynos S7 Edge 935F, with XXU1APC8 firmware. It is very annoying and I see lots of mistakes when i type now - ive been a 2 years swiftkey user with S5 - no issues there.

Using swiftkey for now. Haven't had any issues so far with the keys on the curved edges.

Swype+ Dragon, working great, I've been using it on my Huawei devices as well, no problem with edges, btw, make sure non of your other fingers touches the edges while typing or else the letters on the edge will become unresponsive.

Those of you using a 3rd party keyboard, did you disable the package for the Samsung Keyboard? I notice that it's still running even though it's disabled and not in use.

I wouldn't disable it. I'm not sure how disabling it in settings compares to freezing it in Titanium backup, but on the GS3, if the OEM keyboard frozen or deleted, you could run into problems after a reboot, because the phone looked for the OEM keyboard to enter the password or pin the first time around. I don't know that the S7 works the same way, but I doubt it's using any signficant amount of memory or battery so I wouldn't take the chance.

I prefer swiping, the default Samsung keyboard just isn't accurate enough for me so I use Swype which I've found to be the most accurate

May as well just use stock then because that's what it is

Swiftkey for me. No issues with the edge keys. But, I did adjust the size of my keys which may help/hurt that issue.

Swype - I used to love you

Hi! Is it just me or has swype become almost unuseable since a few ROMs back when it went from popping a box up to horizontal suggestions above the keyboard.
I'm not talking about the aesthetics, it seems as though the dictionary selection, accuracy and changing of half typed and corrected words is just terrible.
Prior to the update I used to breeze through, now I'm lucky to swype in a few words without an epic correction struggle against its will to correct and change.
Swype, once a selling point and a joy to use now just plain sucks for me, and the thought of using it turns me off productive tasks.
Just me? Bad settings? I look forward to peoples input. I can't exactly remember when the change occurred, it was when it went horizontal instead of pop up.

no problem here, actually I feel Swype 3 to be better than 2, fast, accurate and reliable.
Feel the same, maybe I swipe too fast, had to correct three times inn the first eight words

I don't intend to hijack, but I couldn't have an android phone without Swiftkey X on it... only complaint is that I have to use the gmail app for my email instead of the Samsung email one because it is very buggy on the Samsung one....
Same here. Old swype was more accurate.
I did two things:
1) Remove swype that comes with the rom, install the beta from swype.com (its newer)
2) Disable autocorrect
I absolutely love the new one. Much better than before and just as accurate.
The new Swype rocks! Especially with the horizontal word choice window. I can't even consider going back to 2.7. No problems with accuracy whatsoever with the new version on my phone.
It's not just me! Latest Cognition 1.50 just released and Swype has been reverted to 2.x, Designgears said the following:
"I think the new versions suck too, it is no even usable anymore, I can type my message 3x faster with the stock samsung keyboard."

Quit the bull - if you didn't mean to hijack, why are you doing it? Is this an accidental hijack? Jerk.
On topic - never been a huge Swype fan, but been playing with it a bit this weekend - and I concur with those that say the new version is hopeless.
Still a noob with it, but my accuracy was much, much better on the old version.
Not sure I'll stay with Swype anyway - old dog, new tricks....
Make sure you check your Swype accuracy settings. I put mine closer towards the error tolerance end now. Still works fine.

I don't like it that much, have to swipe twice/thrice for a simple word like 'or'. I used T9 Trace on my S8500 before and it never had any problem, even if I swiped on some wrong letters it ultimately gave me the right word.
I am on 2.72 version, at default setting.
Regards.
Yep same here. Spent more time struggling with auto-correction than actually swyping.
I use TouchPal's keyboard now. Surprisingly accurate even when you mash the wrong buttons, high degree of customisability (you can even use the classic numpad keyboard), and they will also be implementing the swyping functionality in the next major release (hopefully more usable than the current version of Swype).
I've found, disabling auto correction helps a million.

I absolutely agree with every word you said. Please if someone can tell me a way of downgrading to an older version, i will be ever grateful. Its terrible now!!
from my perspective.. swype 3 is better than swype 2 .. well the horizontal word suggestions eats up a line, but in exchange it's easier to scroll down (or right ) for the words.. it's true that it's not perfect when selecting words.. but overall.. it's still the best keyboard...

How do you disable Auto Correction? Can't find it in settings!
Swype 3 beta says you can't install it on a phone that was shipped with swype pre installed. Anyway to get the new 3 beta of swype on official firmware?
Is there any way to downgrade though?

Here's the new ICS keyboard.

Seriously I never tried it before the note and I find it far quicker and more accurate to type, really impressed.
And definitely wouldnt use another keyboard now that didnt work by tracing out the word.

Yea. I used swype on my HD2.
I mean I could go back, but Swype is so much quicker and easier.
I like Swype!
I've tried Swype a few times but I can't get the feel of it at all so never use it. Trying the ics keyboard now and finding it's a bit better at auto correcting spaces which is handy.
Swype rules.
S-pen toggle ICS keyboard
love this ICS keyboard layout (having such a small space bar on others just pisses me off), but is there any way to add the Pen input for it on the SGN? kinda defeats the purpose of it on this handset if you can't use it.

Swype is by far the best. It's so easy and simple and forgiving. I barely even hit my intended letters and it almost always knows what I'm typing. The idea of taping out messages or emails seems archaic now. Especially with the s-pen....it's just such an effortless pleasure.
Takes a day, max. That being said, is love to be able to use Swype on the ics keyboard.

I tried the keyboad but have no comment as of now. Why? Because it still lags just like the previous other keyboards I've tried, if your a fast texter like myself the phone is slow & cannot catch up which leads to mistakes in EVERY word I write, it's a nightmare...
I hope they fix this issue in the next update.
Currently using ''smart keyboard pro'' which I think is one of the BEST keyboards, also being VERY customizable & comes with several great skins, all of which are great in their own way, even the colours you can change...
I think the note will be FAR superior once it gets the ice cream update and will be even smoother and faster than what it already is.
I found it initially lagged but after turning off most of the features it works OK now aside from occasional lags which I assume is due to some other application slowing it down. Its auto correct can be intermittent but I have it turned down as I don't want it too aggressive

Issues With Smart Keyboard Pro

Hi Guys,
Just got my S4 on Saturday, and I've been messing around with it, trying to get it set up in the way I like, and I'm enjoying it so far!
One issue I'm having, however, is with Smart Keyboard Pro. I've used this on all my previous Android phones are really enjoyed using it, but for some reason, it now seems to be missing letters, almost as if it's lagging behind somewhat. I've installed Swiftkey and this seems to work fine, as does the stock keyboard, but I much prefer to use SKP.
I initially thought it could be to do with AirView, but I've turned that off now and i'm still having the same problem...
Anyone else had this?

I've used SKP on the SII, SIII and now SIV (i9505) too and haven't noticed anything untoward with it ...
I used it on my S2 too, under various ROMs, ICS, JB... was brilliant! I've switched to swiftkey for the moment, i seemed to be having issues with the space bar... Might just be me but I've never had it before! I can't deal with the puncuation on swiftkey thought...

Samsung Keyboard vs Swiftkey

So I have been having this problem as of late with Swiftkey (mainly after update to MDL) switching back to the factory Samsung keyboard. So I gave in and noticed that I actually get less lag and issues with the Samsung Keyboard. In fact my Quadrant scores have increased since I just use the Samsung keyboard.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this just my imagination?

The stock keyboard is SwiftKey but designed different for this phone. I love the stock layout but I cannot type on it whatsoever. I just noticed that with swift key I'm getting Quadrant scores of 126xx and with the stock android I'm getting Quadrant scores of 130xx. Not a huge jump or anything really writing home about I just didn't know if the Samsung keyboard was optimized for a lower memory foot print or if there was something else going on. I realize that the S4 comes with stock (based of swiftkey) and Swype, but I could download the already purchased swiftkey from the store and that had some of the features I liked (learning).
Like I said, nothing big I was just curious about that little jump in score.

Perhaps try un-installing the Samsung keyboard or install the Google keyboard as well. I have the Samsung keyboard installed as well as SwiftKey and the Google keyboard installed and SwiftKey serves as my default keyboard just fine right now. Try switching it back and forth a few times to see if that helps.

Yes, they have a partnership going on for the GS4, but I still find Samsung's keyboard annoying as hell. Inserting common punctuations like comma or period is much longer in terms of the process. However, yes the predictive word is licensed.

Really bad lag when typing / generally using S7 Edge

Hi all,
Has anyone else got really bad lag on their S7 Edge?
I love this phone - but the input lag is incredible. Sometimes i'm unable to type a message for minutes at a time because of the lag. At first I thought Swiftkey was to blame, so I uninstalled and used the Samsung keyboard for an hour or so. Same problem. Re-installed swift key.
I've removed any apps i've installed recently... Cleared cache partition etc... No joy. It happens for up to 5 minutes at a time, maybe twice / three times per day.
I can't seem to locate the cause, and i'm trying to avoid doing a full reset of my phone and lose everything, to maybe end up with the same problem.
Thanks

The haptic feedback vibration?
I'll try it out.
Well at least on an immediate try, there seems to be no lag. I'll monitor and see how it goes. Is this some kind of known issue?
I don't know if it's a widespread issue, but I've read a few reports here and there about it. I seem to have the same issue as well, not as dramatic, though. Typing response sometimes feels sluggish, unresponsive at times (some key presses are not registered), though that seems to happen intermittently. Haven't found a way to get rid of it, though. I've tried clean installs, recent app clean apps, disabling bloatware, not disabling bloatware, different keyboards, etc. It seems to come back every time.
I was using Swiftkey for a while with the S7E and had the lag issue every once in a while. I switched to Google keyboard after the latest update a couple days ago and in my opinion it is better than Swiftkey. The Swype to type is so much more accurate on the Google keyboard. The latest update also got rid of that stupid Holo theme and now has boarders around the keys. That also added an option the change the keyboard height. Give Google keyboard a try and you may end up liking it better.

Swiftkey is garbage and should not be used by anyone. They added a lot of bloat and stupid animations over time and turned a great keyboard into a lag fest.
The stock Samsung keyboard is as smooth as Google's for me. Very responsive and no lag at all. I'm on exynos, which variant do you have?

Absolutely no lag here. You're probably running an app causing it. I have about 150 (I know I know) apps installed and zero lag. I clean it out sometimes and it soeeds things up overall but no lag that's noticeable at all.

Well at least on an immediate try, there seems to be no lag. I'll monitor and see how it goes. Is this some kind of known issue?

No its not really a bug per se it just the haptic feedback can't keep up with the touchscreen.
I have mine off and zero lag at all

I don't know if it's a widespread issue, but I've read a few reports here and there about it. I seem to have the same issue as well, not as dramatic, though. Typing response sometimes feels sluggish, unresponsive at times (some key presses are not registered), though that seems to happen intermittently. Haven't found a way to get rid of it, though. I've tried clean installs, recent app clean apps, disabling bloatware, not disabling bloatware, different keyboards, etc. It seems to come back every time.

That doesn't fix the issue for me. Have been running my keyboard without any kind of feedback (sound, vibration) and I've tried it with and without feedback and the problems persists. As I said, it's not a constant thing but it looks like some sort of system wide lag that is reflected on the input response. Nevertheless, thanks for the tip.

+1
Hasn't fixed for me either. Using Google keyboard with swipe and vibrate disabled. So disappointed
