Choice between 2 head units. - Android Head-Units

ey,
I'm debating getting one of these two units.
https://www.carjoying.com/in-dash-g...gation-system-support-steering-wheel-con.html
http://www.in-dash.net/buy_en/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=188
So heres the dilemma. The joying one is a9 quad core, but only has 1 gig. Plus, while I know joying isn't high quality at least I've heard of them.
In-dash is octocore (which is really just a second set of pointless quads) a7 but 2 gis of ram.
I currently have a pugug dual core a9 with 1 gig.
Is the 2 gigs more helpful or the a9? Does anyone have experience with in-dash?
Can in root the joying or upload a newer version of android on the joying?
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, Im pretty much like you so I've come to share the info that I've got so far
The Joying Units are the first to have Android 5.1.1 lollipop in about two weeks, this units also are under testing to have DAB and now have a cold boot time under 20 secs, you can see this on their youtube channel and facebook page, they have show everything and you can see most of the tests, also you can see many user videos with the 4.4.4 units and I ssume that in a few weeks we will see the ones with 5.1.1.
BUT this units are based on Rockchip RK3188 wich ONLY have SDK support up to android 4.4.4, Joying is doing Lollipop using a very old kernel and some pieces of RK3288 code as far as I know. so this is probably s fr s the RK3188 Units will get development wise, wich is a pitty becuse its a powerful enough chipset for car lo last long time
On the other side the InDsahnet units are using the Allwinner A83T (maybe at 2.0GHz top) Octa Core with 8 cortex A7 cores NOT 4A7+4A15, the A7 is low end vs the A9 middle end, but draws less power and produces less heat thant the A9, if well implemented this could mean longer standby times and less fan noise, the GPU is a PowerVR SGX544MP wich is a little bit faster than the Mali-400 of the RK3188, this will make difference only in newer GPS Software, the 2GB DDR3 of RAM should make good difference if you have/use many apps, this units are based on Android 4.4.4 but Android 5.1.1 is in the works with the great difference over Joying that Allwinner A83T has official 5.1.1 lollipop support and is powerful enough to have Marsmallow in the future, but so far indashnet has said that there are no plan for Android 6.0.1 yet. This Units re limited to 800x480 resolution if you get the 6.2 inches screen and 1024x600 ONLY if you get the 10.1 inches screen, wich for me is an overkill in size
And now the Big BUT... BUT so far I havent been able to find a real video, review or photo (the photos on their store are generic and low res), so, its leap of faith here for me, I would like to see youtube channel like Joying
Right now my advise is to wait if you can, see the Joying units videos nd reviews in a couple of weeks with lollipop and try to contact InDashnet with to ask for some videos... maybe if enough of us ask for it, they will put up a youtube channel like Joying
Another idea that has been in my head is to ask for new SoM's maybe Joying can fuly use an RK3288 wich supports 5.1.1 lollipop and many RK3188 HU users just need to buy a compatible SoM board with RK3288 and upgrade the software, this has been done before from the RK3066 to RK3188, but we need someone with expertise, Joying seems like the natural choice since they seems to be using 3288 code for the lollipop version of RK3188, for this we should contact Joying and show them tht there is a rel demand... thats what made them create the lollipop rom for the RK3188 in the first place
Finally let me tell you that there are a couple of FAR BETTER units on the chinese market, but they are hard to find here in Europe where I live, this are made by the manufacturer Flyaudio and use Quallcomm Snapdragon 400 (G8 series) and Snapdragon 801 (G9 series) Quad cores processors, this units can go to Quallcomm deep sleep and remain in standby mode for days, booting in a couple of seconds, this units can be seen on web stores and youtube videos and seem to work great.
BUT the stores so far are chinese wb stores or russian web stores, the chinesse web store is TaoBao, wich is actually the store from wich Aliexpress gets all its products, so I dont know why this units doesnt show on Aliexpress yet
I have ll the info and links, but cant post links until I have at least ten posts on the forum, I you want the, I'll send them to you
Hope this post was useful for you and others

What is the fastest processor I can find in one of these head units?

I've been looking all over ali express find tons of conflicting info but I think I have deduced that the rk3811 quad core a9 is the fastest processor you can find in these units ( please correct me if i'm wrong). I want to upgrade the headunit in my benz cls500 and do a full overhaul with a new amp to get rid of the crappy fiber optics amp. The only reason I havn't pulled the trigger is because I was hoping to get a 9 inch screen that fits flush in the center console, something like this....... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/8-8-...ation-Central-Multimedia-for/32603628957.html .... and although it seems to have been released relatively recently it appears to have older technology in it. Do they make this style with the new processor and the 4.4.4 os.
well, there's a 10.1 inch unit

I believe the Rockchip PX3 Cortex A9 Quad Core 1.6GHz is the fastest processor in these Android units now. Maybe the manufacturer will release the eight-core version later, but who knows how long will it take. 9 inch screen is not the limitation, I find a 10.1 inch Android unit... only watched the review video, don't know how will it work after installation. you can have a look.

Yea I was actually interested in the 9 because I think that is the largest that fits into that very specifically shaped Mercedes cluster. I was hoping to keep it pretty factory looking. Where can you find these units with that processor you speak of? I've been basically only looking at Ali express not really sure of another reputable place that has these things.

Just Google it

Well, I just googled the "quad core Android unit review" and it showed this in-depth review. After reading that review, I start to pay attention to that AutoPumpkin brand. They have released a few quad core Android units and also uploaded the review videos on YouTube to help us know better about their products. Of course, you can searched other brands by yourself via the net, such as Eonon, Joying etc. Since I don't know much of these brand, you can figure out by yourself. Besides, you can search the Android unit on Amazon or eBay. Don't just focus on Ali express.

Yea I looked at pumpkin and many brands my main issue is that the ones that fit my cars stock head unit all seem to be old hardware the only company offering the new hardware for my unit are these no name brands and I believe Joying otherwise i'm stuck with the dual core or the quad a7 processors. I started looking at ebay first but thought that might be a bit more sketch than ali express but i'll give it another look.

I believe I found a company that makes the px3 cortex a9 quad core you speak of it is called xtrons... but they are very sketchy about their info at first they list all cars that have fiber optic systems in their compatibility list then I ask them if this will work with a vehicle that has fiber optics and they tell me no. Then they send me a message sayign that this is the "5m fiber optic bypass cable" I will need. this looks like no fiber optic bypass cable I have ever seen can anyone verify that this company is not just blowing smoke. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Stereo-...es-Benz-/301814784274?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
I'm looking to do an upgrade from an RK3066 to an RK3188 and I'm curious if the 'PX3' and the 'RK3188' som/boards are the same - or at least interchangeable?
In my research I see that an RK3066 can (usually) be swapped with an RK3188, but the seller I'm working with has a som that looks just like an RK3188 som pictured in threads but the CPU is stamped 'PX3'.
Any confirmation this will work just like a 3188?
Thanks.

I'm curious how you were able to get such level of detail from a seller are you on Ali express? I haven't managed to get more than what is on the ad and often is incorrect info. I wasn't aware that they could swap these boards if so many the r16 quad core a9 is a possibility?

I agree, usually on AE it's very difficult to get good communication and detailed responses, but occasionally I've found sellers who will try to help.
I have no idea of the other A9 boards would work because the form factor is critical. These units have a pretty unique slot for the som, so you have to find one made for it - it's not generic.

The r16 is a7, not a9.

Carjoying makes a 10" With an RK3188
I believe that the RK3188 is the fastest processor in any of these headunits, that i have seen. Joying has a 10" with the 3188 but it is the same resolution as the smaller units. Their website has pictures. They have an 8" for some specific cars. I have one in a CRV and it is excellent. Fits and looks better than the factory radio.

Do they make any of these big screens for a Mercedes? I see some but they are all running an r16. And claim that it's quad a9 but it's most likely quad a7

I have had difficulties to find out where to buy it.
Is this the fastest/better model? Anyone knows a better place to buy it? At least a 2gb memory version would be great

Android HU - Intel SoFIA CPU

Hi,
I am looking for a new Android HU for my Toyota Innova Crysta. I have almost zeroed in on Joying[JOYING NEWEST RAM 2GB ROM 32GB FACTORY CD PLAYER REPLACEMENT NEW ANDROID 5.1.1 LOLLIPOP SYSTEM PIP AUTO RADIO 7 INCH DOUBLE 2 DIN HD 1024*600 RESOLUTION HEAD UNIT UNIVERSAL CAR GPS RADIO BLUETOOTH 4.0 WIFI MIRROR LINK ENTERTAINMENT MULTIMEDIA SUPPORT OBD2] model.
However, while checking on the Processor, which is the Intel Atom 3GR SoFIA quad core processor, I was shocked to read that Intel has completely stopped production of these. Although the specs of the Joying box are quite appealing, when compared to the price/specs of other models based on Rockchip RK3188 processor, when comparing to the SoFIA Processor specs, it seems they are maxed out. Have the esteemed members of this forum come across Intel SoFIA based HUs? How do they rate performance wise, as compared to say a Rockchip RK3188 based unit? The Joying box specs do mention that rooting is possible. But after coming to know that it is no longer in production, I am wondering how much of a help rooting would be, if community support for the processor is no longer there.
Thanks in advance for your valuable feedback.
Cheers,
Ajay.
these are brand new, so not really much of a review out
I think I found what I am looking for in another thread. Sorry for a separate thread. Mods may choose this thread. Thank you.

Comparing a few different models, not sure what to get? Need some advice.

Edit: Narrowed down my list to three models. Goal here is to get the best bang for my buck and would like something with decent XDA/aftermarket support and manufacturer support in the event I have any problems. Also needing DVD, solid bluetooth for TorquePro(must be reliable, my vehicle requires constant measurement of various temperatures), USB/SD, solid FM, decent sound, decent offline GPS, and overall reliability. Ability to use 3g/4g would be nice but purely optional. Faster boot would be nice as well.
Pumpkin 6.2" Android 6.0 32gb ROM 2gb RAM TDA7560 OctaCore FastBoot DVD- Model #CN10-02207B I can't seem to figure out exactly what CPU is in this one. It has the TDA7560 audio, plays DVDs, has front aux/usb/sd which makes using those ports much more convenient. Downside is it has physical buttons down the left side. Not a huge deal, and it seems to hit on all my other requirements so I could look past that. No idea on aftermarket/XDA support.
Xtrons 6.95" Android 7.1 2GB/16GB RK-PX3 64bit 4core DVD - Model #TA695P Can't figure out what audio chip/amp this one has and it's only a quad core so 'fast boot' isn't available. It is also the PX3 which, to my understanding, means it has better root/rom support on XDA? No idea on Xtrons support.
Xtrons 6.95" Android 6.0 2GB/32GB OctaCore FastBoot TDA7851 DVD - Model #TB697P Can't figure out what CPU this one has. Pretty much same requirements met as the Pumpkin, but face looks cleaner without those physical buttons. Has the better audio amp chip. No idea on aftermarket/XDA support or how Xtrons support is. So far this one is my favorite based on appearance and specs. Main downside so far is that USB/SD appear to be on the back of the unit or via cable plugged in to the back, so this hurts convenience a bit.
Anyone?
Recommendations on a better brand/model would be nice too. Need to get something ordered today.
Also looking at US-JY-UM128N2D which apparently has an internal amp, and US-JY-UM124N2 which does not. Also found the Xtrons TA695P which is apparently an MTCB head unit and has better root/rom support?
For some reason I can't seem to find much info about any of these models and I would really like to get something ordered today. Looking for reliability and ability to easily root/rom if possible. Sucks not having a radio in my truck right now and after looking at these android head units I'm more confused now than I was before due to so many different models and variations of model numbers and etc.
I also need to know if I can use my google account to access my apps/etc in play store, or if I'm stuck using a their pre-added account?

Get a Joying.
I would avoid 124 or 135 because the touchscreen is inset by over half an inch under a deep plastic bezel that makes touches near the edge challenging, and drag-in-from-outside gestures impossible.
Look at either UM128N2 or UM128N2D.
There is open source work being done on Joying intel units, so you can expect some much greater stability and choice in software for them.
HOWEVER, there has been no work done yet to address the digital amplifiers (the one with the "D" on the end), so you probably wouldn't get any sound on that one just yet. BUT, its not the most complicated hardware to deal with. The main dev doesn't have a "D" unit.
Whatever you do, avoid UM128N2PX5R, which has a new extra crappy CPU. They might be tempting, because they are CHEAPER than the Intel N2.
Could you elaborate on not getting sound with the UM128N2D?
And how is the UM128N2D in terms of bluetooth? It is extremely important to have TorquePro working reliably on my truck since monitoring temperatures can save the engine(powerstroke).
This is my list currently...
Pumpkin 6.2" Android 6.0 32gb ROM 2gb RAM TDA7560 OctaCore DVD- Model #CN10-02207B
Joying 7" Android 6.0 2GB/32GB Intel SoFIA 3GR 4core w/ Internal Amp NO DVD- Model #US-JY-UM128N2D
Xtrons 6.95" Android 7.1 2GB/16GB RK-PX3 64bit 4core DVD - Model #TA695P
Xtrons 6.95" Android 6.0 2GB/32GB OctaCore FastBoot TDA7851 DVD - Model #TB697P
BT on Joyings are basically OK (I have "D" model), Torque also works. I use my only Google account also on HU bying apps from Play market.
I've narrowed my list down to three models.

Rolled the dice on the Pumpkin 6.2" Android 6.0 32gb ROM 2gb RAM TDA7560 OctaCore FastBoot DVD- Model #CN10-02207B since it and other Pumpkin models seem to have better reviews all around compared to the various Xtron octacore models.

What's wrong with Xtrons?

Hi all, first time member here - sorry for any dumb questions.
I'm looking at getting my first android head unit. I don't have much criteria, but here is the list;
- 7" double DIN
- snappy boot time (2 - 3 seconds before playing music)
- nice looking - physically (don't like the joying logo or inset/bezel), and software (prefer the look of the latest android)
- video in for pi or dash cam
- bluetooth for calling and maps data (waze, etc). Or should i be looking at wifi tether?
At first, my research lead me to the following Xtrons units (basically searching whats popular on ebay);
- TB706PL (Octa-core RK3368 PX5, Android 6.0)
- TA701PL (Quad-core RK3188 PX3, Android 7.1)
- TL702P (Quad-core Intel Atom x86, Android 6.0)
Questions:
1. I've read a lot of posts on this site steering people to Joying HUs. Whats wrong with the Xtrons HUs?
2. Is the PX5 a big deal? Is octa core overkill for HUs? (I'm currently leaning to the PX3 over the PX5 due to later Android.)
3. Are all these units rootable?
4. Is there a likelihood of being able to upgrade the Android version of all of the head units in the future?
Thanks everyone!
Joying is the brand with the greatest hacker support.
You don't need to buy the UM135 with deep plastic bezel. You can also buy UM128, which is all glass.
Yes, it has a joying logo on the front too.
PX5 may have an 8 core SoC, but they are 8 SUPER WEAK SLOW TURDS. They are badly implemented A53's. So don't for ONE SECOND thing that you're getting something on the same level as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. You're looking at several orders of magnitude between the 8 turds and the 8 custom A73's in the QC.
Of all the CPUs available for car radios, the INTEL quad-core is the strongest. Ignore benchmarks, its a totally different architecture that you CANNOT compare with synthetic benchmarks.
As far as upgrade android version, Joying with Intel CPU is probably the most likely one for being able to upgrade to AOSP8.
i've never had an Xtrons. I have had Joying, Dasaita, and Seicane.
All have their pros and cons. The Joying definitely ran the best, and had the most updates, but it ran too hot and fried itself. Joying did replace it, which was cool.
However, i wanted something Jeep specific with a big screen, which Joying doesn't make, so I moved on to Dasaita with Android 6.0 and PX5:
https://youtu.be/ITCawVbBL7g
And i got the Seicane with Android 7.1.2 and PX3:
https://youtu.be/MWVsNWZjeCQ
The Dasaita is noticeably quicker than the Seicane but the Dasaita had 2 bugs I couldn't get past. The Dasaita would not recognize the MicroSD card from sleep. It would be fine from a full reboot, but from sleep it didn't recognize it, and the app switcher button would randomly disappear.
Seicane does not have those issues.
I think Xtrons and Dasaita are very similar, but not positive
Pf84mtv has any one got the original software?
Xtrons gave me a wrong firmware for my system and now my system lost the function of all its buttons and now they emailed me saying sorry they dont have the firmware? Can any one help

Which one is better? 8227L vs allwinner sun8iw11p1

Looking to get an android head unit. Visited a couple of local shops and ran CPU-Z on the android units. They're both same price (quite cheap) but I'm not sure about underlying hardware quality and future update possibilities/mods?
First: 8227L (ac8227l), Android 8.1 Go, Cortex A7-1.12 Ghz (quad), 1 GB Ram, 12 GB Rom, 5 band Equalizer
Second: AllWinner A23 sun8iw11p1, Android 9, Cortex A7-1.6 Ghz (quad), 1GB Ram, 12 GB Rom, full-band Equalizer
Apparently second one is better, however, I checked online and allwinner a23 is quite old hardware (from 4-5 years ago), but it is faster. Also, its running Android 9 but not the "Go" version, so it might be more taxing on the memory. I like everything about second, except that the Home screen has icons with white rectangle background so there is a lot of white on the screen and I fear it will be too bright to use at night.
First one has slower cpu and android 8.1 go, however, a lot of the posts I see on this forum are related to 8227L.
Which one should I go for? Is one better than the other in audio quality?
