Hello everyone,
Recently my friend had my galaxy s7 Edge in her hands and sadly dropped it. The phone was just 5-10cm over the table and it is a soft wooden table so it was no drama, no signs of any damage on the phone, but i noticed that after the drop if i shuffle my phone i hear a little clicking noise, like something is moving a bit in it.
I am just curious if i should be worried, and maybe send it back to where i bought it for the warrant (they will not know that it dropped because there is absolutely no signs of it). What do you think is there a chanse that it will cause some troubles, or not. I think that it is just some little parts which got out of its " secure housing" / fastener.
Aditionnaly to mention today i had a random shut down off the phone. I do not know if it has something to do with it, i think not but who knows. It is already 4-5 days since the incident and the phone did shut down a few minutes ago, i just saw that it was off, and after holding the power + volume down combination it turned on again without any issues. Also everything works just fine like the first day.
Shuffle? Do you mean it rattles a little if you shake it next to your ear? If so I'm sorry to say it but the components in this thing are so small and delicate, and with such small tolerance levels, that it needs to be investigated. Also, there is no room inside, I'm curious what is actually rattling. That's certainly my view anyway. Hope you get it sorted.
As for the random shutdown, it's happening to quite a few people (there is a thread on it). It's likely a software problem that will be fixed and not related.
Your rattle could very well be the OIS (optical image stabilizer) in your rear camera, similar to some people had on their Galaxy S6 Edge (like me). If you turn on your camera and make it focus, the "rattle" should technically be gone.

@Beefheart Yes it is a rattle sound, and thank you for your reply regarding the random shut down, now i feel better

Thank you my friend, you made me also feel better, it was actually the camera, which i did not noticed earlier. I have tried now turning on the video recording, and the rattle is not there if it is on

I know many of us on this forum and others are suffering from this problem, but there aren't many people telling us if their phone is NOT rattling that way we know if we actually do have defective phones.
Take a moment and answer the poll!
its probably the autofocus mechanism in the camera.
Had a massive rattle with my xperia x1 i used to have - i replaced the handset with the warranty only to find the rattle was still there. some searching showed that it was the autofocus mechanism in the camera.
If you shake ur phone and you cant hear anything then i would assume its fine. tapping is obv more likely to elicit an abnormal sound
Correct. Basically the autofocus lens is set up like a voicecoil in a speaker. It rides on a tube wound with a coil placed in a magnetic field. There is movement when setting the phone down on it's back (less when laying it on it's face which is why you rarely hear it in that position).
Completely normal

I agree that it's camera, but I've seen atleast 3 people say that they have no rattle. Maybe they can't hear it, but it's worth taking a poll.
zero rattle
have not heard any camera rattle when tapped...
i have a slight rattle. i really hope too much rattling will not eventually cause camera to break or have blurry pics in the future. this is the first phone ive had where i actually use the camera/video capabilities
Seriously? A poll?
Definitely the autofocus.
Had an Xperia X1 myself and took a couple minutes to find out that the rattle was the autofocus.
Probably don't wanna tap at it too much, though. Might not do anything, but can never be too careful.
Edit: Oh, and yes... My Nexus One rattles when I tap near the camera as well.
That's good to hear, mine rattles too, and I was starting to get worried...
Mine rattles, if i hold it up to my ear and tap it, something in there is definitely rattling in there. In all likely hood the zoom/focus mechanism.
I never noticed it by tapping near the camera. I have Vibrate on key press when I type and thats how I first noticed it. When I type and the phone vibrates, you can hear the rattling, it's quite obvious and getting annoying since I type a lot on my phone.
I had no idea about the camera rattle on the SGS5 until I bought one. I thought it was a flaw on my device but since then I've tried like 8 SGS5 and all of them had the rattle. Even Samsung acknowledges the rattle on their support page.
You can clearly hear it on a quiet room every time you tap the top part of the screen of the phone compared to the bottom part.
It's annoying.
Does it annoy you guys too? Never had this issue on any previous phone.
I never noticed that until now. I am going to hear it every time it moves now. lol
But other than that, I don't see it causing any problems. If you're really that worried, I would say take the phone apart and put down some adhesive to get it to stay in place and not rattle around.
Oh big deal it's merely an issue

Most high end phones have this, its to stabilize the camera to make more stable pics cause the lense is attached to feathers to decrease movement.

Do you know if the M8 or G3 also have this rattle?
Those were my other options, but if they also have the rattle I may stick with the SGS5.

Nothing to hear. All quite on the camera front!
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G900F met Tapatalk
It bothered me in the past but now i don't even notice it anymore.
I only hear it when I shake my phone, and since I generally don't shake my phone it hasn't been a problem!
Im getting an obvious rattling sound right around where the camera is on the 6P when I tap pretty much anywhere on the phone, front or back, doesnt matter.
I tried to pinch the top right corner between my fingers, pretty hard actually, and then tap on the phone again, and the sound ALMOST goes away. Loose component?
Anyone else have the problem?
Yeah i believe the newest update fixes rattling noises and adds band 12 for tmobile users.. battery improvements too

Same here. Used to have this issue with the N6, many said it was the OIS. Seeing as how this phone lacks OIS, perhaps its a loose component.
I'm hearing this also. I think it's the camera but mine works great no problems at all.
When I owned the iphone 5 it had the same sound and it was the camera module. So no biggie. If I get any problems with the camera I will surely ask for an warranty replacement.

Same here. Anybody tried to replace phone because of that?
I have it too. No biggie as long as it doesn't affect performance. I more worried about the pink hue on lowest brightness setting (adaptive display on)
I decided that it was so loud and obnoxious, I did an RMA on it. Replacement will be here tomorrow. Will see if the new one has the same issue. I would normally open my own phone to fix the issue myself, but with a 3/10 repairability score, Im not likely to touch it. If the second one does it, I guess I'll live with it.
My previous phones all had this except N6. All our iPhones suffer from it. Not sure what it is though
If it helps any my Galaxy s5 has this.. I noticed it after changing from a an S3 that never did, it ended up being normal on the s5, something do with camera something in there jiggles or rattles a bit.. espically if i just shake the phone i can hear it.. never had a problem tho..
I have the same noise in my 6P and I tell you what it is, is the camera auto focus let's I side hitting the body of the phone when you toss it around and when you put it on the table. It should of had more space in between the camera lens and the body of the phone. Because the lens moves when it auto focuses and any camera with auto focus will have some play when you move the phone, because if the moving parts, the space inside the phone around the camera is so o tight, it touches the body. I hope it will not damage the camera with time.
Every phone with a camera will have this. The lens needs a few mm of empty space to move back and forth to focus. It's basic optics. Nothing you can do about it.
I too have this problem. The rattling sound is loud and clear.
As few of the customers are having this issues, I believe it is a manufacturing defect. I will ask for replacement as I can not bare with such issue. Had spent huge money on phone, why should I compromise and get settle? Need Replacement.
Anyone get a replacement for this yet? Is the rattle still there?
I sent back my 1st 6P for a defect in the screen, got my new one yesterday and it's got this rattle everyone here is talking about - I don't remember my first one having this? When I squeeze with a little pressure, it goes away. I called and have a replacement coming, but with EVERYTHING else on the phone being almost perfect, it scares me if this is the normal?? If it is, I'll keep my current 6P and live with the rattle.
I'm on my third 6P now and all three have had this rattle. It's just the camera. I have a N4 in front of me which has a rattle when tapped around the camera, so did the Galaxy Nexus. I'm sure the N5 had it too. N6 didn't, maybe because it had OIS?
I'm sure it is just the camera elements. If you start the camera app and tap there the rattle is almost non existant. Probably because the autofocus is active and holding the optical elements in place.
My 6p doesn't rattle. RMA?

I also have this rattling sound in my Nexus 6P. I tried to investigate it (without tearing it apart) by going to ifixit. If one examines the back portion around the camera, there is a white wire that runs across almost the entire width of the phone (checkout the image here: https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/ZlpUoq3OjhHJsqTo.huge). This wire, I'm not sure if it is glued to the motherboard or body and hence might be the reason behind the rattling noise. I hear this rattle when I gently tap the area around the camera or when I casually keep the phone on a hard surface (without being extremely gentle about it which I believe no one is).
If this wire is lose ( not carefully attached to the metal cover which holds the 3.5mm headphone jack and the front camera ), you might hear it bounce against the metal.
This isn't a problem. I have in my desk my 6P, a OnePlus One, a Nexus 4, an original Moto G and a Nexus 7 2013 and they all do the exact same rattle when I tap them near the camera. The rattles ceases or decreases when I open the camera app and the devices' cameras focus.

I'm pretty sure the camera makes this sound. I've had 2 6P's and they both made this noise when I either tapped on the phone or go to put it down on a table.
Dear All,
I would like to have your Opinion on the Following.
I believe my Phone has bad build quality. Google say this is normal and they will not exchange it.
I would like the opinion of the community on the following topic.
I*have encountered 2 problems with my Nexus 6P:*
Problem 1: clicking sound coming from camera if dropped lightly on bed or sofa, or if shaken (most likely inferior camera module) sound might come from autofocus but persists if camera is on.
Problem 2: Creeking sound and noticeable give and bending if pressure is applied to back panel, just underneath the fingerprint scanner. This I can tolerate from a plastic phone but not from a 699€ device. most likely the adhesive is applied badly and the creaking sound happens when the backplate of the phone springs back into place.
Admittedly minor complaints but still substantial build quality issues.
I created a youtube Video to illustrate my complaint but I can not post this yet as I am a new user. ***tu.be/f0Kf13dECFI
I dont have any of those, and i agree, even tho its really minor problems, its sad if google dont want to exchange

Indeed Google not cool
Almost every phone has this tickling sound coming from camera. Try it your self, hit soft with your hands your phone near camera when device locked and also try that when trying to focus in camera app, then this sound stops. It's because camera sensor.

I agree that most phones have this rattle, however with mine it seems to be getting worse, I have tried it with the camera on and it still makes the noise. I have talked to google about it and they say it is the gyroscope and that this is normal. However if it is normal why do other phones not make this sound.
Anyway the bigger Issue is the bad quality of the adhesive in the back panel. The creeking sound is disturbing as it always happens even if I am only holding it in my hand. One day this thing will just fall apart.
Hello... I purchased an s6 edge plus recently... I recently started to notice that it sounds as if the camera is loose (which it is). After close observation i noticed it also makes a grinding sound when the camera app is being opened! Is there a way to fix this? Why is it doing that?

Hi I also have this issue but it becomes crystal clear after that grinding sound right?
A rattle is normal, it's a free focus ring which only locks down when focusing. It should NOT make a grinding sound when opening the camera though. I had this issue on mine, took it to a Samsung repair center and they agreed there was a problem with the focus motor inside and replaced the camera module. - Mine still rattles when camera isn't open but the camera no longer grinds when opening.
Mine actually got worse over time, to the point where it would really struggle to focus at all, that's when I decided to take it to Samsung. Get it sorted before it stops altogether outside of warranty.
