Screenshots - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you take screenshots with by holding down the power and volume down buttons, but 99% of the time when I try it, the volume either ends up increasing or decreasing as opposed to actually taking a screenshot. I found several apps in the play store for screen shots that will put a notification in the notification shade, but I can't find any with low priority notification so they always show an icon at the top of the screen or always appear with all my one-time notifications instead of with the persistent notifications. Is there some other shortcut I can use for screenshots or an app that uses low priority notifications?

Google Now On Tap does screenshots if you press the share button, so this is even easier!

Are you using a case? There are quite a few cases that get in the way of taking a screenshot. If you're doing it without a case I don't see how it could fail, except for user error.

Tried it without a case. Press the bottom of the volume down button and the top of the power button. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Using Google Now On Tap is easier anyways since I can do that with one hand.

It sounds to me like you have a faulty button assembly, taking a screenshot with the button combo should be easily achieved. I'd be getting an RMA started.

Not really worth the trouble of having to set my phone back up the way I want and reinstalling all my apps seeing as how the buttons work fine for everything else. I ordered it through Amazon, how would I go about the RMA process if I wanted to though?

Restore it back, by flashing the factory image.

Read section 10 & 11. You can lock the bootloader again, if you want, and take it to the service center.

I have no idea where a service center would even be.

Search Google my friend, for Huawei service centre in your region/country.

touch screen problems on used Atrix

I got a used Atrix yesterday from my local secondhand store here in the Sunny UK
I have been using it stock with nothing done to it. and when I turn it on I can swipe to unlock but then when screen loads it will not allow me to swipe or touch, to do anything on the phone.
Its done it a number of times, also one time I had the market icon on the top right hand side of the first screen and the camera app second icon in from the top left second row down and when I pressed the market icon it started to load the market, then cocked up and i was told to force close it, and under the force close bit was the camera app running even when I had not touched it.
also voice control has started when i have only pressed once on the touch screen. I was told in the shop I took it back to that voice control starts with two quick taps on the home button. but I had only pressed it once.
I made a video of it going wrong and the checky bloke told me that it could be anyones phone i had video'ed and they could not allow that to be used to prove the fault.
its in for test, but I do not hold much hope for them as its not something that happens all the time.
I do like the phone but if they do not test it right ( ie long term ) they might say its fully working.
what I'm trying to find out is, where do i stand trying to send it back to motorola as its used.
i will film it again as when you turn screen off then on again it works and then i can pull up the imei number to prove its the same phone.
one last thing I did notice with a white background there seems to be a tiny dark patch on the screen about 5mm
Does the phone say "unlocked" when booting? Could be an issue with the PDS partition, search for the PDS fix and flash it if you're unlocked.
Voice control starts with 1 long tap of the search button, not two short taps. You may have been confused.
no it does not say unlocked. while booting, it just has the motorola dual core icon and then the t mobile logo

[Q] touch screen sensitivity

Is sensitivity adjustable? My phone is constantly calling people on my contact list, or texting them paragraphs of jibberish. And jumps around from screen to screen "on it's own".
When I take it out of the case,it's awake, and it's on any one of who knows what page. And my apps are moved around, like I held my finger on one of the apps on my home page and dragged it to another page (panel)
When I turn the phone on, or take it out of the case, almost always the big weather and time app is gone from my home page. I have to find it, and drag it back home.
Before I put my phone in my belt case, . . . because I'm having this problem . . .
1). I turn off all apps. (Hold the select button down a few seconds. Then swipe off all open apps.)
2). I make sure it's on the main desktop page, and put it to sleep. (Press OFF button for a second. Screen is black) So the page that should come up when I wake it up should be my home page. And if it's accidentally bumped or presses the awake button while in my case, (?) it should be on home page, not on message page, or phone page. Or trying to log me into Google!
But it's getting turned on, and apps selected, etc. while it's in the case. Sometimes it's actually turning off, then back on. I hear it chiming during the bootup.
The case was made for the phone. Fits perfectly. Leather. And there's no way I'm bumping the side of the case, hitting the on button.
When it does this, sometimes it's on my messaging/texting page, and somehow selects someone to text. And is either recording whatever it's "hearing", or it types long paragraphs of jiberish text.
Any ideas? TIA! Wayne
does it do it on it's own?
When left overnight untouched, or left on table for awhile?
As far as I know the only way to physically wake the phone up is either press side power button or center home button and maybe the case is causing the phone to wake and register commands. Another possibility is voice commands, are those on?
otherwise there is a program that causes all the trouble. Once you know whats causing the issue, the fix should be simple.
I think screen sensitivity can only be adjusted up, for glove use, but that makes me think you suspect case being at the root of this, so either try different case, or lock the screen with password or something more difficult to activate by accident.
My friend "butt call me" at least 3 times from his iphone, but I never had this issue with Note3 since I have to press one of the buttons and then properly swipe the screen, within few seconds, not easy to do accidently .
And judging from your post, do you have your screen lock set to nothing ? So it's easy to wake the phone and do unintended touches, even in a case.
Sent from my N9005
Thanks
RE: And judging from your post, do you have your screen lock set to nothing ?

Thanks for the reply. As far as I know I don't have my screen locked to anything.
No idea actually.
What I did find is that the sensitivity feature was turned on. I turned that off.
Then I turned off the voice function.
Tried that. No better.
So I set a password. That works. BUT . . . now I can't find where I turned off the voice rec.
And I've really tried finding it. Now I can't use voice for texting. The mic icon is gone from
my text menu.

Screen wakes up all the time

Hey there,
I've a big issue for a few months already.
My S4 jflte always wakes up whenever the screen turns off.
I tried to figure out where it's caused by and when I cut off the soft buttons (home/menu/back) and started the phone, the screen didn't wake up anymore.
As far as I know there is no way to repair this w/o damaging the screen itself.
So could I block the buttons from waking up the screen?
As you can see when a app is opened and the screen turns off automatically and turns on again, the home screen appears and puts the app in the background.
youtube(.)com/watch?v=Bhul9UMJ8l4 (I don't have 10 posts yet so I have to post it this way. Sorry)
Could anyone help me? I've been researching for a long time and found no solution.
Says video not found.
Are you on a stock rom?
The Video is working fine for me. Did you copy the whole link and did you remove the brackets? ( )
I'm on AOSP 6.0.1 Kernel 3.4.110-Alucard-PWR-CORE from JDCTeam.
I tried different ROMs so far (including the Stock) and it's definitely a hardware issue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhul9UMJ8l4
have you been doing full wipes inbetween roms ? if you have then maybe it's a hardware issue.
Yes, I've always done full wipes. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Is there any way to block the keys from waking up the phone? I usually use the power button anyways to wake up the phone.
You can probably disable the keys altogether. Or maybe just the menu and back key, and leave only the home button functional.
There is no way to do it with that rom yet, but you could use Xposed and Gravity Box.
Most apps nowadays offer inbuilt menu and back options anyway.
Before you try to disconnect any buttons, try to clean the phone. That has solved many problems in the past.
Look for disassemble S4 videos on youtube, and for cleaning use a small paintbrush, or a very soft toothbrush, and Isoprophyl Alcohol(70% clean alcohol, 30% pure water), you can buy that in the Apotheke.
Clean the board an all other reachable electronics. Let it dry, reassemble and see if it helped.
Thanks for the tips, but I've already done that before (twice) without success.
I'm looking for a way to disable the keys from waking up the screen. I've tried it with the key configuration files in the system, but it didn't work.
Example: When I press the home button the screen wakes up. I just want to disable the wake up for all buttons except for the power button.
Does anyone know a app for this? Or a mod for xposed?
There is no actual "wake up" function assigned to the back and menu key. Only the home button has one. So there's nothing you can disable, except for the keys altogether. I already suggested you how to do that in the 5th reply to this thread.
I've found a work-around. I disabled the keys with 'Xposed Additions' while the screen is turned off or locked.
Thanks alot for your help guys!

Some parts of the system lost their functions

Hello,
There is this weird problem that came out of nowhere. I usually sleep listening to music and sometimes I weak up with the phone battery completely drained so I have to charge it. Today after charging the phone some parts of the system lost their functions. These are the problems I discovered so far;
-The home(LeEco) and the multitask buttons are not doing their main functions even though the phone registers the touch inputs from the buttons and they light up. The home button can even lock the phone on long press but won't take me to the home screen.
-I have the swipe shortcuts button enabled but it won't take me to home screen or multitask screen. The "go back" option, however, is still working along with the back button. I can go to the home screen by swiping or exiting apps with "go back" button.
-I can't download apps from google play store even on wifi with auto-update enabled. it's stuck on download pending.
-I can't open the notifications management from notifications.
-Connecting the phone to my PC does not show connection options.
-Screenshot doesn't appear in the notifications. The notification area remains empty.
So far these are the ones I discovered. Do you have any idea what causes that and how to fix it? I didn't do a factory reset yet as I can't transfer the data to my PC. Eui 5.9.026S I haven't had any of these problems up until this morning.
Thanks in advance.
Backed up data using an app and factory reset solved the problem.
The actual problem seemed to be:
1-The multitask screen virtually opens but it appears behind the background aka it doesn't actually appear. I think because whatever app that is responsible for it does not have the draw over other apps permission(?).
2-The notifications are there but does not appear in the notifications bar menu. I made sure by using the a notification history app. So it might be notification access permission problem(?).

Mi A1 Power Button Issue

When I click my Mi A1 power button once, it acts like it was clicked twice, which turns off the screen and isntantly turns the screen on to lock screen. This is really annoying and I would like to know if others are also experincing this issue.
I apologize if this has been asked before.
Most of users have this issue. I have that issue too. It seems that is hardware issue.
I have same issue, and I need to press it hard
I think we all have it. It bothers me sooo much when I'm trying to take a screenshot but since I'm on a custom ROM, I can avoid it altogether. AOSiP DerpFest gives you some pretty good options, so I made the device lock by holding the back button and a screenshot via a shortcut in Quick Settings. Now I don't mind it as much. I already ordered a Mi 9T from AliExpress, now just waiting for it to arrive.

I use home button shortcut from nova launcher to lock my screen. But how did you do screenshot via a shortcut in quick settings? Does it need root? I'm rootless
Probably need to replace the buttons. The spare part is quite cheap but its a hassle to open the phone up.
I also have this issue
Replaced the button with spare parts from aliexpress but the spare button, came low quality buttons, became wobbly and issue becamse far worse after few days of usuage. then replaced with original spare from a mobile repair shop and the problem still remains. if aint broken dont fix it.
My power button isn't working n I sometimes need to restart my phone because sometimes my phone lags so I need to refresh. But without the power button I cannot restart. My phone is not switched off bdw. I'm using it but I simply need to restart sometimes. Is there any alternate way to do this?
MI A1.

If you have adb activated, you can connect your phone to computer, open command line and type "adb reboot". It takes some time, but you don't need to use physical button.
Alternatively, you can download some virtual button apps on Play Store, it keeps a virtual button (normally as a widget) from you can open the power/restart menu.
When you press the whole button, issue happens but for me when I press half of down side of button it works perfectly
