When I click my Mi A1 power button once, it acts like it was clicked twice, which turns off the screen and isntantly turns the screen on to lock screen. This is really annoying and I would like to know if others are also experincing this issue.
I apologize if this has been asked before.
Most of users have this issue. I have that issue too. It seems that is hardware issue.
I have same issue, and I need to press it hard
I think we all have it. It bothers me sooo much when I'm trying to take a screenshot but since I'm on a custom ROM, I can avoid it altogether. AOSiP DerpFest gives you some pretty good options, so I made the device lock by holding the back button and a screenshot via a shortcut in Quick Settings. Now I don't mind it as much. I already ordered a Mi 9T from AliExpress, now just waiting for it to arrive.

I use home button shortcut from nova launcher to lock my screen. But how did you do screenshot via a shortcut in quick settings? Does it need root? I'm rootless
Probably need to replace the buttons. The spare part is quite cheap but its a hassle to open the phone up.
I also have this issue
Replaced the button with spare parts from aliexpress but the spare button, came low quality buttons, became wobbly and issue becamse far worse after few days of usuage. then replaced with original spare from a mobile repair shop and the problem still remains. if aint broken dont fix it.
My power button isn't working n I sometimes need to restart my phone because sometimes my phone lags so I need to refresh. But without the power button I cannot restart. My phone is not switched off bdw. I'm using it but I simply need to restart sometimes. Is there any alternate way to do this?

If you have adb activated, you can connect your phone to computer, open command line and type "adb reboot". It takes some time, but you don't need to use physical button.
Alternatively, you can download some virtual button apps on Play Store, it keeps a virtual button (normally as a widget) from you can open the power/restart menu.
When you press the whole button, issue happens but for me when I press half of down side of button it works perfectly

This might be a relatively small problem but it can be a little annoying. The back button (right side of the menu button) seems to be a little less responsive and 'smaller' than the options button (left side of the menu button).
By smaller I mean I need to click it exactly at the right spot and the button reponsive 'area' seems to be very small compare to option button which seems to take up most of the left side allocated to it.
I am not sure if this is intented or some kind of software/hardware fault?
I read about upgrading touchpad firmware through *#*#2663#*#* but there are reports than this could brake the buttons completly.
If anyone has any information it will be greatly appreciated.
P.S phone is not rooted and I bought it from vodafone Ireland.
there are a few threads on the hardware buttons not working correctly try the search.
I found one about the back button, not a lot of info though.

I have the same issue but also to another extent. Mine has an issue where sometimes it will double tap when I only press it once. This can get annoying. I do have a screen protector on and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same thing happens to me ... but Its kinda rare(I am not using a screen protector). Does anyone know a solution? should updating firmware fix this?
I am thinking about asking for a replacement.
Replace it, same problem with my first unit, 20% of the presses didn't register

I thought it was just me with the double tap when i press it once lol. Grrr its annoying man! :[email protected]

So the only way to fix it is to replace it?
I would imagine someone can make a mod to the touchkeys for like a certain millisecond delay between presses to fix the double tap. People have patched hardware keyboards for stuff similar to that.
As far as the non-registering presses, that might have something to do with delay too. A smart developer would have to try and look at it though I'm just guessing here.
I haven't noticed the non-registered presses in a while, not sure if it went away with a new kernel or if I just got used to how to press it to make it work. The double tap happens more often to me now lol.
Happened to me on my first unit, back button was only responding about 50-60% of the time, on the 2nd phone back button was extremely sensitive ( as sensitive as the SAMOLED screen which is a huge plus) 3rd phone seems "normal"
Galaxy S2 back button getting pressed twice on a single press.
When I am in 2nd/3rd level screen of an app, back and menu button lights go off(but screen is on). While pressing back button sometimes it's going back 2 levels with one, single press! As if I have pressed it twice. It doesn't happen always though.
Is there any fix for this?
PS: I am using a screen protector. Will remove it and see if that's the culprit or not.
u shud b thankful mate..my home butoon stopped responding at all
Hi,
Sorry to hear that.
But how did it happen? And how old is your phone? It must be still under warranty. Did you try taking it to the service center?

I was also having this annoying problem.....searched over XDA....and found some tricky (fishy) codes for updating touch firmware.....which may end up braking those keys....so i stayed away from those tricks..

Hi
Ive posted this over on the Android Forum however not so many replies yet so thought I'd post here too.
Please can you check your home button operation and reply with the following:
- Does your home button work regardless of how soft you press the button ?
I almost have to deliberately apply a 'little' extra pressure on the button to get it to operate, if I press it softly it doesn't work.
I tried a demo model in the local phone shop and it worked every time regardless of how soft I pressed the button (i couldn't get it NOT to work), but the sales guy's own phone was more like mine in that it needed a slightly harder press.
I would be interested to see what the majority are like so i can make a decision on whether to exchange it or live with it.
Thanks.
On my S4, as long as the pressing is registered (click sound can be heard) then it work, I don't need to press it hard.
Change it. Mine works everytime.
How do i get rid of the image verification? Does everybody have to do it everytime you want to reply to a post?
The moment it clicks, it activates. I've tried to click it as lightly as possible.
Change it mine works perfectly

My vote goes with everyone else, change it! I've tried mine, both soft and hard, as soon as there's a click, the phone responds. I've tried demo ones too before purchasing mine and they too were easy to press, even with the hoards of people constantly having a bash at it!
Perhaps you got unlucky and got a dodgy one.
Good luck though either way.
Trick:
Open S Voice app > Settings > disable "Double Tap to open S Voice" its in the menu somewhere > restart phone > see if its more responsive.

Ye this should make a difference, if you still find the home button lack responsiveness after preventing s-voice action on home button then take the device back you have a bad button

Thanks for the replies.
Had phone exchanged today, replacement is much better.
On mine, i can hear and feel a slight crackling noise with light touch without pressing the key all the way down. The button feels solid, tight and works just fine, but it bothers me that it does that. The shop people wouldn't consider this as a defect since it's so minor, but minor enough to annoy a fussy tech person like me.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Hello all,
I've been using ZUK Z1 for just about a week now and everything was fine until a couple of days ago when I could not unlock the phone after a call - the power button and the home button turned the screen on for a split of a second and then the screen went off again without reacting to any taps. I had to restart the phone by pressing the power button + the volume down button. I tried to reproduce the issue, but did not succeed.
Yesterday, I had the same issue twice and then I finally got it how to reproduce the problem The main condition seems to be ending the call when the screen is off. That can be achieved by holding the phone close to your ear when the call it ended by the other party or ending the call by pressing the power button (you need to turn on that setting beforehand) again while holding the phone close to your ear.
Another guy on another forum wrote that had experienced the same issue once and yet another guy mentioned that there was such an issue with Cyanogen on OnePlusOne, but it was fixed in one of the updates.
I'm currently on 12.1-YOG4PAS3OH and I'm not sure whether it is a Cyanogen issue alone or an issue caused by interaction of Cyanogen and some of the applications installed. I'm inclined to believe that it's the latter, otherwise there would be a lot of people who ran into the issue.
This weekend, if time permits, I'm going to try uninstalling the applications one by one to find out whether any of them contribute the issue, but maybe some of you have already done some investigation or know how fix the issue. I would appreciate your input.
Thanks.
Hi there, i am facing the same issue since two days now
First i am unable to come up with the physical home button issue and now there is this new issue. The phone does not respond after a call and the screen remains off and does not respond to any touch (double tap) or even the power button and home button pressed. I had to take the mobile into the recovery mode via home buttons power button and volume rockers. Is there any possibility of this getting fixed. I think i made a huge mistake purchasing this phone.. Slowly getting into problems one by one.. First the physical home button issue then this screen off issue. Checking for updates daily but seems like ZUK officials and Cyanogen are sleeping! Highly disappointed!!!!
In the meantime, I uninstalled most of the applications and the issue was still there Then I tried to play with different settings and it seems I have nailed it. After disabling turning on the screen by double tap (I'm not sure how the setting reads in English, I'm using the Russian interface), I cannot longer reproduce the issue.
Sydarij, could you, please, check whether the setting is on in your case and, if it is, turn it off and try to reproduce the issue with the screen?

Yes, that's what it seems. With the option turned on I could reproduce the issue (just 1 or 2 tries were needed), while with the option turned off I could not reproduce the issue at all.

This seems to be a different problem. How the option for preventing accidental wake-up is set? (It's just below the double tap option. )
In any case, one owner on another forum complained about the accidental wake-up issue despite the setting was on, but he meddled with the firmware before that...

Yes, the accidental wake up is set yet the issue cannot be resolved. Any other way you can resolve this and prevent the issue from reproducing? In my opinion, ZUK and Cyanogen officials are asleep after launching their new flagship. Dont see any updates coming from them since last 2 months. highly disappointed with this!

Hi! I'm facing the same issue for the last 3 days. I felt everytime there is any moisture of sweat on the ear piece the phone hangs and doesn't get unlocked.
Will try shutting the double tap options. Hope it works! This is the first time I've brought anything in the launch sale without reading reviews. Hope I don't regret this.

did you solve this problem?
i too have posted the same problem here ..

i am facing a black screen while calling and receiving calls on my zuk z1 .. any solution? and where do i find the proximity setting in my settings?
I have a problem with my S8. After locking my phone it randomly vibrates and turns screen back on asking to unlock (enter passcode or scan fingerprint). Sometimes this happens right after locking and other times after 5 seconds when my phone is already placed on the table. When I unlock the phone there is no notification. I can't seem to find out whats causing this. This is not always (but most of the time) happening though, its really random.
Checked internet. Checked Reddit. No apps enabled in accessibility. Smart Alert disabled.
Its driving me nuts, please help out.
EDIT: When removing passcode the phone unlocks itself to the lockscreen. Just happened after 15 seconds when laying flat on the table. Should I leave my house??? haha
EDIT2: Seems like the homebutton is registering presses. When 'Unlock with homebutton' is on it go's straight to the homescreen when above happens and when its off it turns on and just shows lockscreen. Really strange..

Actually, this is a HUGE issue IMO and abnormal behavior of the phone, which is subjet to return.
You should be straightforward in your decision or get used to the issue.

F*CK, I think I found it. I disabled AOD, with it enabled I don't seem to have this issue.. :/
S8 Unlock problem
Im having the same problem. I unlock using the pressure sensitive home button. After locking and unlocking 3 to 4 times the home button does not respond "only on the aod screen". Then suddenly it unlocks and when I lock the screen again the phone vibrates and unlocks the screen itself
Plz help me out
I'm having the same problem. Sensitivity changes randomly. Sometimes it doesn't seem to recognize presses and sometimes it recognizes them even when I'm not touching that area. All this happens when screen is locked. AOD disabled. Sensitivity to 2 (close to very sensitive)
I have the same issue .. AOD and the rest are off! Case was taken off also. What's going on !? I don't now what to do with this... ? Mayby the best option is to change it for iphone? ;((((
Having exactly the same, however samsung technician was unable to replicate it for a whole day and they sent it back to me without any repair... Swap is also not an option as samsung will test phone on their side anyway and in case it's "good" they will send back same unit.
Issue is really random and sometimes it doesn't occure for over an hour. Then it starts vibrating and waking up after touching screen in top or middle area couple of times (screen off, AOD off, no case, no screen protector), multiple vibrations after pressing "home" button or delayed vibration.
Other reports are on reddit (pm me for link) or different xda thread forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/hard-press-home-issue-t3597004/page4
Anyone able to record his issue to compare with others?

I went to Samsung Premium Service and left my S8 (Exynos one) for 2 working days.
Sometimes when I press home button it vibrates once or with significant delay and then when you touch screen anywhere else (top, middle, edges) it vibrates again and wakes screen up. It looks like it cannot register/release pressure sensor correctly. Since they were not able to replicate this error they decided not to touch hardware at all, therefore just reflashed it and calibrated.
I'm getting this 2 or 3 times this every 15min, but it's hard to record, because when I start recording it's already working properly... Have you managed to record your issue to compare with other users having similar symptoms?
The same problem with my phone....unfortunately i don't have any record of issue. I think is a touchscreen problem

My pressure sensitive home button has a mind of its own like it works or sometimes doesn't register as a press then sometimes when I try press harder or softer it goes mad and registers lots of presses. Sometimes it just works properly though. Should I return it quick or is it just normal if the screen has to be cleaned or something?
I have same problem, i owe factory unlocked s8 created for caucasus region. my home button makes me crazy, even now when i was writing this, just picked my s8, i pressed hard on home button, on the screen off (I've enabled always on display) and no kind of vibration, than touched back button and it vibrated. So sometimes it vibrates 3-4 times when i hard press only one time, sometimes it's giving me very late vibration, sometimes i also think that i get notification and nothing is there. yesterday it gave me two vibration, during facebook scroll. i'm a big fan of samsung but, this s8 has too many hidden problems, bugs and luggs.
isn't it possible guys that in the next software update it will be solved?
Same problem here. I think there is another thread with this issue btw?
It could very well be a widespread issue but a lot of people might not even be aware of it because not everybody's using hard press preferring other ways to unlock/wake the phone.

Me too ,its happend just wgen the phone is locked, when i hard press home button sometimes it gave me little vibration and when relased the correct vibration or other times it gave me 4 vibration.
It could be software broblem because when the phone is unlocked doesent happend and
too many people here have this problem
U won't find out when it will miss vibration or any other bug or lugg. I'm testing and testing, even i pushing home button half an hour without resting and there were no kind of bug. I think that, than when there is no too much free ram and also when phone is hot, also U have many apps minimized and u lock the screen. And at once u push hard on home button. It will fail vibration and if you observe during screen unlock, animation will stuck. It's opening bit-by-bit. Looks like very low FPS. So this 3d touch failure makes phone work luggy.
P.S. sometimes phone is cold, with much free ram and same happens((.
Also when phone is locked for long time. When you press hard on home button on screen off (with always on display) it will miss the first pushing.
Sometimes if it fails vibration, it continues doing this for minutes, even phone restart will not solve the problem.
There is something wrong. This phone has ram managment problem, there is something strange. This device is a real rocket but it isn't well optimized.
I hope Samsung will fix this bugs in the next software update, otherwise i think i will go to iOS. Just i need smooth animations, smooth app open/close, without stucking. Without luggy, without bugs.
Whith this problems this really fantastic devise is nothing.
P.S. i'm a big fan of samsung. Have had many iphone, and thinking to return there.
Sorry for my english.
Hey guys, I have a problem with my power button, seems like it's working but at the same time it's like stuck, so I don't know, if I press the power button just for a bit, it restarts and goes on a loop just because of that, but If I don't press it, everything works fine.
What should I do?

Sorry to hear that. You could use the fingerprint sensor wake option, and double-tab home or empty areas of nav bar for screen off, I think Lineage OS has both of those. Not sure that's a complete solution though.
I was put off by motorola's locked bootloader in 2012 with a Droid X2, then it's mechanical "Back" button failed, making the phone useless. Being so cheap now and having changed its bootloader policy, I decided to give Moto another go. But I still don't trust the buttons, I want to limit their use as much as possible, using fps wake and double-tab home to sleep.
