Unlocking bootloader - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a nexus and can't seem to unlock the bootloader, I've had every nexus except the 5 and 6 but fastboot just gives me the list of commands whenever I put it fastboot flashing unlock and oem unlock doesn't work. It detects the phone fine. I've tried it on opensuse, Ubuntu, fedora and same results every time.
Any help would be appreciated.

You must turn phone on, go into Settings -> About Phone -> click Build Number several times to unlock Developer Options in the main settings screen
Go to Developer Options. 5th option down, you need to toggle OEM unlocking.
Then you may proceed

That's not it because that's the first thing I did after getting the phone. I just double checked to make sure it's selected and it is. Had to do the same for my nexus 9. But it's as if it's not a command in fastboot

Got it working, had to build the newest version of Android tools myself since every distro I mentioned must have a old version in the repositories since it's working now.

You are right. I had the same experience when I unlocked it and then I downloaded the latest one and solved the problem.

Anyone Know the Bootloader Version Paired with JFN53N?

So I noticed in the OTA file (JRN84D from JFN53N) that they included a new bootloader, and it's version 3.34. Does anyone know what the old bootloader version was for the JFN53N build?
Thanks!

Thanks. To get the bootloader version, you'll need to reboot into the bootloader just like you did when you unlocked. I believe you power the device on, then press volume down very quickly when you see the Google logo appear. Once you are in bootloader mode, the version should appear on screen somewhere. I'd appreciate it very much if you could do that for me and report back. Thanks!

[GUIDE][VIDEO][06th Jan 2012][4Noobs]Unlock The Xperia Play Bootloader Video

This is a video tutorial for my guide that can be found here, i felt it was best to make a new thread to keep the thread clean.
Text Guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662199
OK so i was looking around for a easy to use guide i could refer someone to and couldn't find one so i decided to create 1.
With this method you wont need to download the android SDK and instead can download a small package of files that i will upload. this saves around 1-2GB of bandwidth.
Firstly we should confirm your phone can be unlocked. To check if your phone can be rooted (most likely if it is not branded to 3, Vodafone etc then it can be)
Go to the phone dialer
Tap*#*#7378423#*#* then a service menu should pop up,
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. if it says boot loader unlock allowed then you are good to go.
if it says not allowed or no then you will need to pay to have the boot loader unlocked.
Now we need to get your IMEI to do this type in the dialer *#06# another window will appear with your IMEI number write this down somewhere as you will need it later.
OK so now that you know your phone BL can be unlocked we will need to download and extract these files

If you have r800x it won't say anything because Verizon removed that from menu so people don't unlock but you can still unlock it with sonys website.

You have to install fastboot then: just download the ADT and install platform and platform-tools.
It will create a folder under C:\Programs\Android\AndroidSDK\platform-tools (don't remember id it's correct lol, it's been a while since I used fastboot lol).
There you'll find adb and fastboot (make sure you follow the instruction under Sony's development site to install drivers and unlock your bootloader).

Normally you would use fastboot to relock the boot loader. There is no possibility of communicating with the device in fastboot mode via WiFi.
The only method which has been disclosed which will work via recovery is the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068207
but it requires that you previously have captured raw dumps of certain partitions on your phone, due to individualized BCT encryption keys.
TL;DR. No

I read somewhere that there is a program that allows wifi ADB access. The problem is that you would have to install the program on your computer and your tablet. If you can't get it onto the tablet, it doesn't really help.

I think I may have misunderstood partially. I thought there was something wrong where you could not access your tablet at all. If that is not the case, then you should look around for the application I mentioned earlier. I forget what it was called, but it was on one of those "Top 10 apps for root" lists. Just Google "wireless ADB". Hope that helps...

A number of devices allow for the ADB debugger to operate over a network port - wifi, bluetooth, whatever.
But those situations are for when you have a booted OS. (In principle it could be done for a recovery, too, but that matters little).
But the OP asked about re-locking the bootloader.
ADB is worthless for that; at present on the Nexus 7, locking/unlocking the bootloader can only be done either through fastboot or with the technique I mentioned in the link given above. And that latter technique requires advance preparation that the OP did not perform.

yes there is a very easy way to do that you dont need to unlock your device for that. go to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015467 , download the nexus 10 toolkit and install the drivers , enable debugging on your device, then select root unroot options , from there choose root + install busy box , then select superSU. and you are good to go , root without unlocking or any custom recovery.

From what I've read here, root only works for the primary user. I could be wrong, but you might want to do some more research on that subject.

Sorry harrisfayyaz, but are you sure?
I rooted my N10 some days ago with this tool and tried it without Unlocking. It did not work for me - app told me I have to unlock first before rooting. Just would like to know if I was just dumb or not ^^
Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938. It works for 100%. I did it already twice (once on 4.2.1 and then again on 4.2.2). Nexus is rooted, but lock is still there. Run *.bat file without unlocking - it works.
I dont want to doubt what you are writing but the OP from the topic says:
Note: If you are using a retail device, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, using './fastboot-windows oem unlock' (or the appropriate version for your machine, included in this zip). Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device, so consider doing an 'adb backup' beforehand if required!

No, through Amazon from US. So in my opinion you always can try. In worse case if it requires unlock it doesn't root your Nexus.
I also read first post but in next part of thread users noticed that unlock is unnecessary. I tried it twice and works every time

After root, lock your Nexus by NRT.
this method worked for me
however it was a pain to get drivers working, i had to get universal naked drivers
one question, will future otas work?
Should work as long as you don't change system files (OTA checks hash codes of them).
I also used universal naked drivers.

Finally Bootloader UNLOCKED (RN3Pro)

Hey guys, almost after 2 weeks of getting approval of unlocking bootloader, finally i was successfull today morning. Here's the steps i did:
Enable Find device option in mi account on your phone first and your phone must be connected to internet
1.Go to i.mi.com in pc/laptop
2.sign-in with your phone number registered to Mi and password
3.Again there will be sign in option, do it as above, it will send otp to your registered mobile number
4.input that and click on connected and check whether device is showing online. leave it as it is.
5.Now in phone, enable usb debugging and oem unlock from developer options and poweroff
6.hold volume down+power, it will boot in fastboot mode.
7.Now open MiFlashtool (run as administrator) and login using mobile number and password
8.Now connect your phone to pc/laptop, the unlock option will be active now.
9.Click unlock, that's it! no more 50% error
Hope this works for all who are still unable to unlock bootloader
BTW, i was on MIUI 8 Global stable rom while unlocking!
