if i have my edge recharging on a wireless charger (connected with samsungs own power supply and usb cable) then i'm guessing it's not a good idea to also plug the phone into the PC so i can copy some stuff on there?

Hi folks,
Love my MDA II, but I can only get it to accept a charge when my laptop is turned on. If the unit is not plugged into USB or the laptop is not on, it won't charge.
What am I doing wrong?
Finally, I have noticed the last few days that the wall AC adaptor has not been plugged in, yet the MDA has been charging through the USB when the laptop is on.
My question is what is the point of having the AC adaptor if it serves no purpose.
I rechecked and pulled the USB and plugged in AC adaptor. No charging takes place.
you are doing nothing wrong. the power thru the usb port comes only when the laptop is powered up (whether the AC power is on or not ).
In other words u can
1. charge it from your laptop's battery but the laptop has to be turned on and it does not matter if the AC power of the laptop is plugged or not
2. you can charge the XDA directly thru its own AC adapter, independent of the laptop
The AC adapter does have a use, you can either use it in conjunction with the little square dc converter that you get free in the box to charge up the xda without the cradle, so you could have the cradle at home and tyhe AC adapter at home if you wished, and if you plug the AC adapter into the cradle you can charge an aditional battery, as the additional battery can not be charge via USB, Maybe xda developers may be able to frig the cradle to charge the additional battery in the future (hint hint)
Whilst on holiday last week i had the same problem that you get with AS when the device is powered on, the usb connection problem thing.
but i was using a mains to usb charging plug, and a standard usb lead, to get the device to charge i had to switch if off and then plug it in, bingo it starts charging, so i dont think the issue is with AS on the PC. it could well be AS on the device thats at fault or something else.
just thought id share that
What was the normal USB lead for in this setup?
Device > Mains Charger I can understand, but were you daisy chaining or something?
Device > Normal USB Lead > Mains Charger?
Cheers,
Joe

2 possibilities - if your wire has 2 cables, then one is for charging and one is for data.
the other option is that you have to terminate your relationship with the phone and establish a new one. if this is possible, then likely you will be asked wehther to delete sync files between the two or not. you may choose not to delete.
hope this helps.

This has NOTHING to do with charging.
Yes, check you didnt tick the box "do not charge when connected to a PC" in the power options.
If your battery is sufficiently depleted them the low output from your USB port may be too low to start the charging process.
Attempt the charge from wall charger and then try not to let the battery drain too much.
It is also posible that the power output from your USB port on your PC is defective, Usualy there is a fuse somewhere mounted on the mainbord and looks like a resistor. You can easy check this by using an other PC and connect the phone to that one. You don't need to intsall the ActiveSync on that PC to check. When that one is charging your batery..... Well you know.....
Oh, there is an other posible selution. Turn on your PC Joking
Are you plugging your phone into an external usb hub or directly into a usb port on the back of your computer?
I recently upgraded from an old tmo Wing and it would charge just fine off a port on my external usb hub. When I plugged my HD2 into the same port, it would not charge. If I connect my HD2 directly into the back of my computer, it charges just fine.
I'll be looking for differrent hub that provides more power and will allow for better charging.
if you POWER OFF the phone and it dose charge (orange led should appear near earpiece)
then your pc's usb and your usb cable are fine.
to fix,
go to 'SETTINGS'
and then at the bottom tap on 'ABOUT PHONE'
then tap on BATTERY'
then 'un-tick' the box that says "When the phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
USB Debugging mode might be on. I rooted my phone and forgot to uncheck that box and once I did, it started charging again.
How do I Stop it charging from the computer on Gingerbread Hyperdroid
Does anyone very kindly know how to stop my phone charging when it is connected to the computer with the Gingerbread Hyperdroid. Thank you.
Cgarging inducator but percentage stuck
My phone shows charging when connected to pc but the percentage doesnt move
I setup a self-powered USB2.0 hub which has a 2.5AMP power adapter. I used a dual male (split) to single female USB cable and plugged the TAB USB cable into that.
This same dual cable & hub works fine to power an external USB hard-drive which won't work with just a single cable for power. I would think with 2+ AMPS it should charge the TAB "normally" (with no "x" on the battery indicator) but it does not, the "x" remains. All other devices have been removed from the hub.
Anyone else been able to get a normal charge off a PC or USB hub with a split cable? It's such a pain to have to put the TAB on the wall charger then switch it back to the PC.
when the screen is off the device charges, despite what the battery display says.

I understand that but I was under the obviously incorrect impression that if you used a double male USB to single female USB cable you would get a normal charge since there is more power available. Is the charge rate dependent on the TAB seeing power on a specific pin of the cable telling it that a charger is connected and not a cable to the PC? I'm connected to a self-powered hub with a big 2.5amp power supply and nothing else connected to it.
So here is what I'm trying to do... I want to disable the usb pc connection, because I have noticed that my phone charges very slow when connected to the computer, compared to when I have it charging to the wall outlet...
is there anyway to disable this feature so that I can just have my phone charging through the computer without enabling the pc connection?
I know on older previous versions of Android, when plugged to a computer you would get prompt with some options to choose (mass storage, kies, charge only, etc)
Is there anything similar available for the i337?

The data connection to the PC isn't causing slow charging.
Your PC's USB port most likely only puts out 0.5A, while the wall charger puts out 2A. (my numbers may not be exact, but the theory is the same).
Exactly as stated above. USB 2.0 only allows 500ma of charging power vs 2.0amps (2000ma) for the charger that is supplied with the S4.
I wish phone makers would start getting with USB 3.0 Standard. If they had a 3.0 connector on the USB cables supplied, USB 3.0 can supply up to 1.5amps, and potentially up to 5amp.
As an aside: the SGS4 only allows for MTP and PTP connections...
There is a way to allow Mass Storage mode, but I wouldn't recommend it, so I won't provide any more details on that.
