When AoD is on, the lockscreen animation stutters a bit. Not like fps drop but screen brightness issue. Instead of lighting the screen smoothly, after pushing the home or lock button it lights up little bit for a milisecond, then gives the full brightness. When AoD is off its smooth as it should be. I dont really know if its a software issue or something else. I really didnt see anything like that on the internet. And i dont wanna factory reset if its a software issue.
Im at work right now so im gonna share the slowmotion video of it when i get home

Hello all,
I'm sure most of you will have seen the flickering icons in the notification area of the HD2. I've noticed that these can slow down any rendering done on the phone while they are flickering. Has anyone managed to remedy this?
EDIT: A video of the problem can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo1Lm30EYaU

you have flickering icons? :S I have not experienced this, any further details/video of it?
Video uploaded, link in the first post.
I see the flickering you are referring too, doesnt it only happen when the wireless is connecting to a network?
that could hint as too why the graphics slows when it flickers
the phone will be doing some background work in attempting to connect to the network so the processing power will be impacted by this.
I do not think the actual flickering is the cause of the lower rendering speed however.
Unfortunately, this happens when ANY of the icons in the notification area animate. The WiFi is just a good example of it happening. I have tried performing other tasks on the phone while the icons are flickering and I have not found the performance of the phone to have degraded. For example, while the WiFi was connecting, I loaded the start menu and started scrolling though it continuously - it remained perfectly smooth and fast.
but you said it affected rendering? surely then you would notice it when scrolling the start menu because it would be choppy? If this is just a flickering icon issue then you could try using a taskbar mod that changes the icons/icon animations.
I have noticed that the wifi icon does flicker (though I have not seen it as bad as your video) I havent experienced the same flicker with the battery, volume or signal strength icons.
I have the same problem, sometimes it's making me nervous
got this phone about a month now and its amazing...but there is one thing that i just keep bugging me....its like that i can see screens refresh rate! mostly noticeable on gray area of the pic/anything else, weather screen for example, where goes from lighter to darker scale. cant describe it preciselly, it hard to notice if u dont look carefully, its like that brightness is shaking, waving or whatever. i didnt notice it before(maybe i didnt pay atention) but since i did its just iritating....and im starting to worry seriously. help pls
Im looking at mine and i gotta say i dont see the same. Is it possible you have auto brightness on? (settings, sound display, brightness) Under certain lighting conditions (fluorescent) ive noticed it rapidly change from one brightness level to another and back.
nah, it has nothing to do with brightness settings...its just like refresh rate
I've searched and seen few post about this, but not much more information, I've rooted and installed cyagenmod 11, an started noticing, for example opening a folder, on the home screen, the brightness of the screen increases for a second, and then decreases, or scrolling thru instagram, or something u can notice the screen gets bright, dims a lil slightly, depending on whats being displayed on the screen, darker images, vs white backgrounds .etc, I just flashed back to stock, and notice it does the same.
I have auto brightness turned off, and brightness set around 40-60 %, is this a defect? software issues? or what.. wanna make sure before I send this back..
Thanks
Hey i received an update for the Always On Display (update number 1.1.22)
after i updated the app i noticed that the AOD is much dimmer in some places than it was before
also i noticed that my girlfriend's s7 AOD is much brighter than mine in the same areas (they were the same before the update)
is there a way to undo the update? (was update through galaxy apps)
Thanks in advance
As far as I know, the AOD dimming is introduced in APD1 and later firmware updates. What is your firmware version ?
Yep, they pretty much ruined the entire feature. Its now too dim to see in anything but outside in full sunlight. Indoors its pretty much just a black screen now. Been a month, they still havent fixed it.
The update is to solve screen burning, this is why is dimmer now.
Cheers.
No, it never burned in since it was always moving. Now it is so dim that i cant even see it, rendering the entire feature useless.
It must be a bug, it cant possible be intended.
Dunno if you tried it but I noticed my AOD accomodates with the lighting condition in the room but im often sitting in the corner where I face the light so when I turn it off I face it to the light so the AOD would be bright. weird habit for now huh hahahah
Still annoys me to hell that they basically took one of the best features of the phone and essentially ruined it (so dark its unreadable indoors, if you dont have a ceiling light shining straight on the sensor). Just by a single little forced software update. Why couldnt they just provide a simple brightness slider in the AOD settings?
Third party AOD apps exist that allow complete brightness control, but sadly none of them run with the samsung AOD "tech" so they all keep the phone hot and running as if fully awake, draining battery more than just the pixels being lit do.
just done the update this morning and I didn't notice difference in the brightness of the AOD. it remained the same. are you sure your dim situation is not caused by some setting, which was reset after the update ? For example, It happened to the fingerprint lock setting in my phone, which become corrupted, unusable after the update. I need to delete the previously saved fingerprint and add a new one again for it to work.
100% certain it was the update. I literally can barely see the AOD indoors anymore. Before the update it was always very bright and vibrant.

How often does your clock move on your screen, because mine stays stationary unless I turn the screen on and it turn it off again, then it'll change to a different position.
My screen keeps dimming on its own since nougat....auto brightness is off, and i have it in performance mode.....however watching media, looking at my photo gallery and even when im flying my drone it will step down the brightness. This is driving me crazy, anyone else have this?
Don't have that problem. Hard reset maybe?
