Hi all,
I was using 3.5mm cable for tv out on my i9000, but i see that doesnt work for i9100...
Will anyone do a hack or something like this for it?
I know there is cable from samsung to hdmi but i am asking it for tvs or auto radios without hdmi...
Is it possible to make a hack or mod for using 3.5mm tvout cables?

Are you just looking to output sound from the 3.5mm jack, or video as well?
If both, I think you may be out of luck, as as far as I know the 3.5mm jack in this case is a standard mic + stereo sound (+antenna) thing.

I was using from this cable with my Galaxy S i9000, but the cable doesnt work anymore with SGS 2 i9100... I think samsung disabled it.
And my neighbour had iphone, he was using a auto radio, he was watching videos and listening music with it, i told him buy a samsung galaxy s2, it will work with 3.5mm cable, after he bought sgs2 we were shocked, cable didnt work with sgs2... he doesnt has hdmi in auto radio, he just bought it because of works with his auto radio...
We dont know what to do... Thats why i asked for a hack or something like that...
Is it possible to let it work on sgs2? i mean my cable as on video...

Why not use an adapter to change the HDMI output to what you need? I figure they're out there...

You need a MHL adapter.

You need to buy a MHL adapter that comes with it's own power supply and then connect it to the micro USB port on the phone from then on it's HDMI > HDMI.

I was using exactly this cable with my Samsung galaxy s:
When i was using this one, there was a tv-out section in settings...
My neighbour bought sgs2 because of this cable works with his kenwood auto radio... He has only rca input for video so he cant use hdmi.
He has something like this but inc. no bluetooth or hdmi input, only rca input for video:

video will never work from the 3.5 on the sgs2, the hardware isn't there.
you will need the mhl cable and an hdmi to rca for the "car video" solution

[Q] Is it possible to have 64gb+ of storage while charging?

Hi All,
I've been considering doing an Android head unit for a long time. There's only two things that have stopped me. The first is audio quality, which I have gotten over since I have a great sound system and the amps should sort quality out. The other is storage. My 64 gb ipod is completely full and I actually enjoy all of it, plus a large variety.
Essentially, is there a way of getting 64gb of external storage on my 16gb Nexus 7, while it is still being charged by my car?
And for anyone who has tried it, will I notice a big sound decay going from iPod - Alpine head unit down to a 3.5mm - RCA connector?

Currently I'm running my N7, a y-splitting USB cable (one end for charging, the other end for USB peripherals), a USB hub, a flash drive plugged into the hub, and a USB audio DAC plugged into the hub. The USB DAC solves all low-quality sound issues! There have been people who don't enjoy the audio quality coming from the 3.5mm stereo jack.
EDIT: seems like there are reports of USB flash drive non-functionality in 4.2. I'm still on 4.1.2.

That was exactly what I needed to hear, thanks! This is the first I've heard of using a DAC though. Could you link me to the one you use? From what I gather, this takes the usb audio and converts it to an analogue signal, yes? Meaning I can connect RCA directly into it?
edit: and how do you tell the tablet to push audio out through the usb cable instead of the headphone jack?

The DAC I use is a Behringer UCA222 but it seems many DACs will work. I picked this one because of price point and good reviews (and it works great for me).
And yes, a USB DAC takes in a digital signal through USB and converts to analog output, (depending on the unit it may be RCA and/or 3.5mm stereo jack).
For USB DAC to work you first need a kernel which supports OTG and USB audio. If you also want to charge at the same time, you need a kernel which supports OTG + charging + USB audio. I only know of one which effectively does this. Here is the latest version of it:

NOTE: Android will auto-switch to USB audio after a reboot. If you unplug USB from the Nexus 7 with the DAC connected you might not be able to get any audio (USB or 3.5mm stereo) until after a reboot.
There is also the faux123 kernel which supports USB audio and OTG + charging with a toggle (run through a script). However, this toggle reverts back to regular OTG (no charging) after a reboot. So that means that you cannot [currently] use this kernel for USB OTG + charging + USB audio... see my post on that thread:

This is almost right. Two things: 1) You'll need a 2amp charger. 2) The USB DAC only uses one connection to the USB hub (single USB-A plug). Check this out for a more appropriate USB cable solution:

For my car installation I couldn't fit a cable like that, as I needed one with a right-angle micro USB plug where it attaches to the Nexus 7. So I bought a regular OTG cable with right-angle micro USB plug, and spliced in my own USB plug for charging similar to the image I posted above.

This is excellent, thank you. And I understand that it's probably impossible, but my head unit currently has 6 outputs. 4 for speakers, and 2 for my sub/mono amp. Is there a way to do all of this properly with an Android setup?

If you have speaker wire coming straight out of your head unit, it sounds like you'll probably need to invest in some more equipment. I currently have 2 amps, 1 driving my speakers + tweets and 1 driving the sub.
I plan to go from the DAC to a 2 way preamp that will feed both my amps.
I'm still entertaining an idea that avoids the USB DAC and tries to HDMI -> SPDIF -> DAC.

I tested official Samsung usb otg on XZ and it worked.
Now I have all in one otg (usb, sd, micro sd) and it work fine.
I think only Samsung ban 3rd party otg, as they want customers to buy their official one.

Agree:
Cheapest no name card reader with very old sd card - no problem.
Tried 3 usb sticks - no problem (sry, I don't have them with me atm, so don't know which products)
So it might be more interesting, if there ist anything NOT working/compatible?

What about portable hard drives? And how about the ones with external power source.I couldn't get these to work on Xperia S.

I tried my 2.5 '' HDs without success, cause HDs need too much power to start:
- Buffalo Mini Station HD-PNTU3 (1 TB)
- Toshiba MQ01ABD100 (1 TB, DC +5V, 1,0A) inside Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB 3.0
- Intenso Memory2Move via USB
Btw - I'm arfraid a HD would drain too much batterie from XZ?
Maybe portable hard drives work with active hub?
Didn't try this yet.

Same does e.g. Seagate GoFlex Satellite, but this german product Intenso is half price (below 100 €).

I agree with this opinion. Sony xperia series should have the capability of UTG connectivity.

Nope, highly doubt it. MHL uses a lot of bandwidth.

I can read micro sd cards using a usb adapter that does not work with my Xperia S, complaining that too much power was needed.

What would even be nicer is if I can do that with Xperia Z connected to my HDTV via MHL Link and I can still use the USB for my Keyboard/Mouse. I don't have an MHL A/V Link yet. So anybody can confirm If the USB on the MHL link can be made into a host?

You could use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse

iBasso D-Zero USB/DAC
Tried my iBasso D-Zero USB/DAC/Amp with the ZX Walkman app (via USB OTG cable).
FLAC (96Khz/24Bit or lower) and MP3 on my sennheiser hd25-1 II (and a few other) headphones sound quality is too thing and I have a lot of snap crackle and pops, really not very pleasant. Not sure if this is result of the DAC in the iBasso?
Disclaimer: I'm not an avid audiophile but I like my music, with quality & loud.

Tried my Fiio ANDES-E07K USB/DAC/Amp with the ZX Walkman app (via USB OTG cable).
FLAC (96Khz/24Bit or lower) and MP3 on my sennheiser hd25-1 II (and a few other) headphones sound quality is pleasant with nice bass and "cleaner" sound, can't put my finger on it, but still not a great sound.
Disclaimer: I'm not an avid audiophile but I like my music, with quality & loud.

i9505 MHL with CM12 and other Lollipop roms (no TW)

Hi guys,
can anyone help me get my MHL connection working with i9505 running CM12?
I bought a new MHL adapter (one side microUSB - charging port - HDMI out + reduction for micorUSB for S3) then I connected to my Samsung TV (older model like 4 years) and ... nothing happened on both sides. The only thing I saw was a phone charging from the adapter (because of external charger). Do I need to modify something, or is it my TV not supporting?

I've got some information, I think I can help you.
First is support for HDMI in CM12, i checked it on SaberMod CM12 and it's works. I dont know what with another CM12, CM11, MIUI build, TW rom support that but Live Demo Unit soft (S4 with Retail Mode and without GSM) no.
Second, what type of MHL you have?
- MHL1 with 5-pin cable - this is for S2, Note (1) Glalaxy Nexus and some another. Probably incompatible.
- MHL1 with 11-pin cable - for S3, Note 2, S4 and Note 3 work good
If you have MHL with 11-pin cable and it's not working you may use another reduction for micorUSB, maybe your is damaged or MHL is damaged.

The adapter is new and is for the newer models - Note 2,3 S3,4 - I tried connecting from microUSB and also with the reduction for S3 (different shape of a connector a little) - but still no go. TV saying no signal. Let's assume my connector is not broken (everything else works)
I am on AntaresOne's CM12 optimized. so I will try to ask in the thread you posted - maybe ther are some modification of the ROM inside which allows MHL.

What you mean? S4 like S3 have the same microUSB port, can't be another shape of connector. The best way it to show your MHL cable. I have that:

I tried the microUSB reduction exactly as on your picture - the very left one (they probably forget to put S4 label on it - only S3 label for the reduction - so I tried both ...)

I have slightly different model: I connected the (s3) reduction to the adpter microUSB - connect to phone. Then take my charger and connect it to the body of the adapter. Then the whole system is connected to HDMI.

Has anyone been able to get USB OTG to work at all?
I tried using a mouse,keyboard, and usb stick and none of them seem to work on the nexus 6p (they work fine on the nexus 7 though).

Is there any option you have to enable somewhere? It doesn't even seem to be providing power (I have a few adapters with tiny leds that light up when they plug in and I'm not getting anything).
Also do you have a link to the cable you're using?

First I use stickmount app since I am rooted. I know of no other setting.

Does anybody know if it can do USB Audio out while also charging? I want to use my Fiio DAC via USB OTG so i can plug into my car audio like i did on my Nexus 7.

I have tested it with a few different USB drives using a Type A to Type C cable i found on amazon. I am able to copy files back and forth between the the phone to the drive. I have to use the built in file manager to do this though (Settings>Storage & USB). The drive is not showing up in any file manager i try from the play store.
I have not tried a mouse or keyboard.
Edit: Tried usb mouse. Works fine. Didn't have to change any settings. USB is set to MTP under Dev Options.

Can I connect my DSLR directly with a Type C to Micro B (3.1) Cable? In the past, I always used a OTG Micro B to Type A (Female) and then a Type A to Micro B (3.1) cable.
When I first unboxed my 6P, I connected it to my laptop to transfer music and the storage did not show. Had to change USB setting and then it popped up.

nkornbau, is your 6P rooted? Mine is not rooted (yet), and I can use the internal explorer to see flash drive files via OTG, and I can even display jpgs from there. However, I cannot get the internal explorer to copy and paste files. It gives me a message "Unfortunately, Documents has stopped working."

Strange, working without a hitch here. UAPP/Hiby needed if you're bothered by Android molesting the bitrate, but works with all apps.

My HRT MicroStreamer jumps right to 96k, works with all apps natively. Unfortunately it also drains the battery so I'm looking for a small self-powered option that will do same. Unfortunately it's a bit confusing to suss out what will really work natively without UAPP, etc.

I really dislike the fact that USB OTG forces using the internal file explorer. This would be a great feature to add in custom ROMs, the ability to allow 3rd party apps to access external storage. Google is really pushing those high GB internal storage and cloud sales. Very sad. In fact, the only thing that really stands out as great about this phone compared to my G4 is that I can unlock the bootloader and play around with custom stuff. Other than that, the G4 is way more feature rich.

You can use whatever file explorer you like. External storage shows up for me in Solid Explorer.
Regards which usb DACs work, unfortunately this remains a bit of a roll the dice scenario. The USB audio thread I opened at Head-Fi in the portable sources forum remains the best source there.

Works with mine: I used a Belkin Type-C to Type-A usb adapter (this got 5 stars from Benson Leung, by the way). The built-in file explorer works fine reading its contents and I can also use Nexus Media Importer to access/manage files/play movies/aduio from a USB thumb drive. FYI, if the OTG plugin for Solid Explorer doesn't appear to work, there are a few more steps to be done such as granting access after selecting the your removable USB storage from the built-in file explorer.

now I can't seem to flash ROMs from OTG in TWRP, though...I think I've only sucessfully flashed BrokenOS from OTG. Everything else flashes if flashed from internal storage. I like to flash from OTG because I occasionally like to wipe internal storage once a month (when I was on the OPO)

Hi, we you able to connect your dslr to your 6p through a usb otg? I can't, and i don't know why. No USB storage works for me with the otg cable and i can't connect to my dslr. I've also received a replacement otg cable from Fosmon because i thought the first one was faulty, but no luck.
Never used to be a problem with my previous Nexus devices.
