Hi Guys! I'd like to ask for some help and advise. I've scoured through the forums and couldn't find a solution that works. I'm helping a friend to fix his phone currently.
Phone: K30-W
Currently installed ROM: CynogenMod 12 (tested 11 too) with the same problems.
Phone was an imported phone, which had a lot of bloatware and various other issues that came with it. Bloatware was so severe that random adverts flash on the phone every couple of minutes of using it. Even after factory resetting, bloatware and junk was not removed, so i flashed his rom to Cynogenmod 11. The phone works fine with 1 caveat, modem/radio/simcard does not work. I made the mistake of not backing up his phone first, but i figured that the backups would likely come with his bloatware again anyway.
Tried re-flashing to Cynogenmod 12. Same issue persisted. I tried a solution from "http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-to-root-lenovo-a6000similar-to-t3017828/page4" as well, but still same problem persisted. I've looked for stockroms to re-install, but have been unable to find one that I could install properly either. SP Flash tool with stock roms didn't have the scatter file in the download either for the SP Flash tool to work.
Currently, all other functions of the phone is fine except for the network. So I get no data, no calls. Phone is essentially a wifi phone for now.
Do any of you here know how I can solve this? I can provide further information as required.
Thank you very very much in advance.
Flash the stock rom and head to the service centre and act innocent. I think this is the safest option rather than doing things by yourself and putting it into more trouble.

Dial *#06# and check if you have IMEI or not. If you don't, then you can repair your IMEI using QFIL.
Thanks for the idea. Will look for the QFIL files and guide to try to get this one sorted. you're right. no IMEI.

Go through the threads mentioned in this post.
II don't want to be an alarmist but back on 17th June 2016 I created this thread DM Verification failure , Please flash ENG binary then install DNK
At the time I wasn't sure what had caused the problem but last night with a different phone I used KingoRoot and it corrupted a second phone of mine. Now two out of three of my Verizon Note 4's have the dm-verification-failure.
The symptoms of the problem are when I am navigating some of the swipes lag. Sometimes when typing there is a lag delay before it is entered. Sometimes Wifi lags before it is turned on and the phone forgets my wifi password.
I found this thread How to solve dm-verity verification failed/need to check drk first on samsung devices but I don't have the experience to do it. Can a developer create the fix for the Verizon Note 4 , PLEASE, Thanks

I am at the end of consolidating all the info I can to determine if I should get a Note 4. Root is the thing that matters to me, but I have learned that regardless of 4.4.4 or 5.1.1 you have to unlock the bootloader which is the challenge.
Just as I think I have it all together and that the methods provided (on XDA only) are the only only ones available and apparently stable, I read this.
Am I COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTANDING your post? Is your post from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...bilized-process-to-unlock-bootloader-t3375527 which I've saved as reference for rooting a device no longer accurate?
I'm overwhelmed from so much research and think I've curated the posts that matter, then I see this. Can you offer anything on this? Again, I may not be understanding. I am NOT a developer or programmer. I've rooted a few devices, but it has been a long time with the most recent not requiring the seeming complication of this one (thanks a lot, Verizon!).

The stabilized-process-to-unlock-bootloader I posted is still valid. I recommended using Kingroot. I found the dm-verity problem with KingORoot. We need more feedback to be sure. I never had the problem with Kingroot. I removed the link to KingORoot from my guide today.

Hmmm..ok..thanks for the reply.
That's interesting as I've read so many posts that say KingRoot is not the way to go but rather KingOroot is the correct on to use. Specifically, a lot of people seemed to have tried it unsuccessfully in the process.
I was also hoping to avoid KR as I've read it is a bit sketchy. I've used it twice before doing that and found a Nextbook tablet it worked great on with seemingly no apparent problems since. Another Samsung phone was rooted with it (I was actually searching for KOR, but didn't remember the name exactly and ended up with KR on a search). Unfortunately, the security pop-up keeps coming up trying to remove it. The user who didn't know what they were doing inadvertently gave it the OK to remove it, and now I haven't been able to re-root with it...arrggh..
I recently thought to install their Purify app (which they push when doing KingRoot) separately, but the permissions in the app say that you give it the ability to analyze the content on the screen in an window...I can't figure how THAT is needed to block startup programs or background one to save battery!
So, I was hoping this meant the KOR was good to go with the process after the bootloader is unlocked and stable per your post. I wonder if anyone else is running into problems. I know this is all very new still.
I don't suppose you could tell me:
1) Is permaroot available (with these new methods) only on 5.1.1 , or is it also available on 4.4.4 ? I haven't been able to decipher that.
I kind of prefer KitKat over the material design changes that are just wasting space on my screen in JellyBean. The Note 4 I got to purchased recently (unfortunately, it was a sketchy phone now being returned), had notifications on constant screen overflow because they waste SO MUCH SPACE with them and with unnecessary notifications that I cannot stop from showing (Power Saving, Wif connected, Blocking on). I know a good bit of that is Samsung, but the non-compact use of the notifications is Android ( Google's changes). It was better on my SG3 with 4.4.4 even though they still has persistent notifications.
I'm hoping to root and find a mod to stop showing those. I'm aware enough to check my connections via the settings when needed.
Thanks Again.

I can only report my findings. We need more feedback.
The only real negative I've noticed with KingRoot is that it's erased the serial numbers from both of the phones I've used it on. Thankfully it didn't affect the IMEI, but whenever I try to check the serial number on those two devices, it just shows a bunch of zeros. Back up your EFS partition first (if you can without being rooted, I'm not sure), or at least make a note of the serial number. You can manually edit /efs/FactoryApp/serial_no to restore your serial number as long as you know what it is. I don't believe the serial number is used for anything (except maybe warranty-related things), just annoys me that KingRoot erased it.
As far as removing KingRoot, after you unlock the bootloader you can flash a modified stock firmware file for the phone (one that has had aboot.mbn removed) and still retain an unlocked bootloader. Flashing anything with an aboot.mbn will re-lock your bootloader, so be sure you remove that from any Odin tars before flashing. I had access to the full factory firmware for the device (containing the PIT file and a couple of other partitions not found in the home firmware files hosted by sites like SamMobile) so I stripped aboot.mbn from it and flashed that to make sure I started with a clean, KingRoot free device.

Thanks, I like the way you think.
Is there some file I can take from a good working Note 4 and repair the DM verification issue ? Do you think I could do it with efs Profestional. Just wondering.
I initially used KingRoot, and it failed 20 out of 20 times to root my phone. I used KingOroot on my laptop (in a VM) and it rooted my phone first try. I don't have any Wifi issues and I don't see any "DM Verity" messages anywhere on my phone.

I think, You would only see the DM Verity" messages when you are in stock recovery. Once you log into your google account, it remembers your passwords. But on my phoneS, I still get the other lagging problems. What ROM are you on?

The lag is most apparent on stock rom that I rooted with KingOroot apk. On CyanogenMod it is more like a hesitation. The damage is so far as I know irreversible.
The other phone that has only been rooted with KingRoot is a a factory DE it does not have the DM Verification issue and it runs as smooth as silk on every ROM I have tried. So I say the problemS came from KingOroot. But we need more data points/ feedback to be sure.

Verizon Note 4 does not list serial number on the box, unfortunately.
Can you post a short video detailing the issues and is there something I can do to immediately verify if there is a dm verification problem with my device? I also used Kingoroot on my Note 4 due to KingRoot not working after several tries, but I don't notice anything out of the ordinary, just the usual ocassional lag that is on every Android device.
Only noticeable issues I've experienced have been the "Unauthorized Actions Detected" issue and Wifi passwords not saving using PaulPizz 6.0.1/OscarKernel, but that was corrected with the freezing of a couple Samsung security apps and a build.prop edit.

I'm working this now FIx DRK/dm-verity, Factory CSC and Serial Number So far I have been able to restore my serial#. after I turned on the hidden menu. You have to be in stock recovery to see the dm-verity verification failed message. You would have to Odin back to stock to see it.
Lag is not normal unless you have a ton of apps running. ., Wifi passwords not saving is not normal not even once , I bet you got the bug.
Maybe, but I don't have the wifi passwords issue unless I flash OacarKernel over either Jasmine or Paulpizz, stock kernels are OK in that regard.
How bad of a lag are we talking about? Slight hesitation or full on freezes for more than a second at a time?
After a few weeks of using the device with custom ROMs, no lag spikes have been out of the ordinary for me, feels more responsive than my Note 3 and noticeably better than both the Nexus 6/Moto X I've previously used.
The only truly frustrating lag spikes I've noticed are trying to use this site without any form of adblock on Chrome.

The Best example is scrolling lagging on this site with Chrome. My phone without the issue is as smooth as silk. No hesitation. The phones with the bug maybe two swipes work then the third swipe lags then the page jumps to catch up. It is uncomfortable to use.
XDA forums have been fine for me in Chrome since I installed an ad blocker not too long ago. Before that I would get annoying pauses and skips, like you're talking about. Though this also happened on my Note 3/Moto X/Nexus 6 as well on this site.
Is there any way to see if any running processes have large latency spikes when these lags/pauses occur?
Also is there another kernel I can try on PP 6.0.1 ROM or a way to easily flash the stock kernel on it without restoring a backup? Seems like the minor issue with Wifi only crops up with OscarKernel.

Verizon devices do not have the typical Samsung serial number. The only serial number your device uses in the last 32 bits of your eMMC CID. The EFS serial number is supposed to be 00000000, and will not affect any functionality of your device. You had your DRK (Device Root Key) erased. It could have been from damage to the EFS partition or something else benign. You'll want to flash complete stock Odin, reboot to recovery and wipe data, and reboot. This should fix your issue, but if it doesn't, let me know and we'll cross that bridge.
In response to OscarKernel not saving WiFi passwords, it's an issue related to ROMs and not my kernel. It does not use secure_storage, so setting ro.secure_storage=false is necessary, and once done, everything will go back to normal and save fine.

The tutorial I was following was for the SM-N910C not the SM-N910V . For that device, magix01 has a tutorial to fix DRK. I was working on the premise that if I could repair the serial number, I could then use emergency software recovery. Thanks for straightening me out about the serial number. Put that aside for now.
I did Odin N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar several times downloaded directly from SamMobile and did the data wipe and rebooted every way possible I think. I still get the dm-verity failure and more importantly, It still has the lag bug. I have in my possession another SM-N910V that does not have any issues. I was wondering if I could take a file from the good phone and use it to fix the defective phone. Thanks, for your help, I am ready to cross that bridge.
So i love my z force but ever since yesterday I've been getting a failed verification message every time i start my phone. Its not causing any problems that I've noticed... Yet ... But i'm also a curious person so maybe someone here knows whats happened to my beloved phone, verizon and motorola surely don't know! I've even tried factory resets to no avail.... Anyways the message goes as stated.......
your device has failed verification and may not work properly.
to learn more go to motorola.com/unlockblootloader
i/d:N/A
your device will boot in 5 seconds
You usually get that message when one of your partitions goes for a security check and fails. I'm surprised your phone actually boots up, some phones simply stop you from booting if any partition fails sign check.
Did you flash anything or modify anything on your phone? It could be a bootloader/system mismatch, it could be a kernel issue... The only way to get rid of this message is flash a full stock ROM to make sure everything is at the right level.
I didn't flash anything or try changing anything with the system files on the phone I figured as much though that the only fix was to reload the ROM. Which isn't possible for me to do that is. correct? My other curiosity is since this did happen does this mean I have the ability to unlock phone? Or would it still be impossible because it is the xt1650-02 on Verizon. (P.s. sorry for my noobish question's) ?

Theoretically, you should be able to reload the ROM from scratch if a full ROM is available. I personally have never tried on a moto phone, but have done so on other brands/devices. Like LG and their KDZ files with LG Up, which factory resets the phone as well as reflashing everything to stock.
Verizon phones can't be unlocked. Hard to say why you suddenly have an affected partition... Maybe next update will fix it for you. Only time will tell...
No idea what possessed me to do it (it was late), I unchecked "OEM Unlock", and bricked my phone.
(Android 5.1.1, stock recovery, rooted)
It's stuck in a bootloop with the red message "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock."
I've read many other posts stating that flashing stock firmware will unbrick the phone. That's great, the hardware can be saved. But I need the data; contacts, txts, photos.
What are my options?
Is there any way around FRP lock? I understand tit's intended as a security feature, and basically only happens when people do idiot stuff like unchecking OEM Unlock. So I doubt many devs/hackers have put much focus on developing workarounds.
Theoretically, Samsung may have the capacity to unlock the FRP lock. Is this a thing? Does anyone know anything about sending it to a Samsung tech center? Probably they would have difficulty guaranteeing the phone sender should have rightful access to the phone, so perhaps they provide no pathway?
@ashyx, I've read your posts, you're frankly a wizard. Any thoughts? Thanks
Frustrated with myself,

Really? Many posts I've seen have noted that "all user data will be deleted".
Do I just use ODIN, and flash AP? No app, or user data will be erased, or formatted like that?
A few mention "Initializing with Smart Switch"; I haven't done that before. Is that different than flashing firmware?

Searching for that question directly, it seems like flashing a ROM (e.g. stock firmware) will not directly erase user data; downloads, photos in DCIM, etc.
But, sounds like any user-installed apps will be erased (so any internally stored data would be lost).
And, data stored in system apps would be lost, too; e.g. tabs that were open in Chrome.
There's no way around the FRP lock, eh?
Here is Samsung's statement about FRP (Factory Reset Protection)
It describes the Google account "protection" features, but doesn't really describe how FRP lock leads to bootloops.
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/frp/
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) Feature
What is Device Protection, or Factory Reset Protection (FRP)?
Android devices provide built-in security features you can use to protect your device and information, including screen locks and data encryption. Data protection, or Factory Reset Protection (FRP), is a security feature on Android devices with Lollipop 5.1 and higher.
FRP is automatically activated when you set up a Google Account on your device. Once FRP is activated, it prevents use of a device after a factory data reset, until you log in using a Google username and password previously set up on the device.
How does FRP work?
When you perform a Factory Data Reset, all settings are returned to the factory default settings. All data is erased, including files and downloaded apps.
If you have a Google Account set up on the device, FRP is active. This means that after the reset, you'll be required to log in to the Google Account using the username and password. If you have multiple Google Accounts set up on the device, you can log in using any of the accounts.
If an unauthorized person tries to reset the device by another method, the device would still require log-in using the Google username and password. This means that if your device is lost or stolen, another person would not be able to reset it and use it.
What do I need to know about FRP?
If you want to reset your device to factory defaults, make sure you know your Google Account and password, because you'll need to log in at the end of the reset.
If you want to reset your device to factory defaults, but don't remember your Google username and/or password, you can do one of these:
Check your devices Account settings for your account name, and reset your password via the device or at www.google.com.
It can take 24 hours for the password reset to sync with all devices registered to the account.
Remove the account before you reset the device.
If you already reset your device, but don't remember your Google username and/or password, the device can't be used. In that case, you can do one of these:
If you know your Google username but can't remember the password, you can reset your password on the device, or at www.google.com. It can take up to 24 hours for a new password to sync with all registered devices. After 24 hours, you can try logging in to your phone with the new password.
If you have multiple Google Accounts, and you can't remember which Google Account you set up on your device, visit https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager.
Log in with your Google username and password and check the list of devices registered to the account. If you don't see the device listed on the account, it means the device is registered to a different account. Use the same process to check for devices linked to your other Google Accounts. When you find the registered account, use it to log in to your device.
If you can't remember any of your Google Account information, you can send your device, along with proof of purchase, to an authorized Samsung Service Center. Samsung has special tools to reset the phone to factory defaults with no protection enabled.

There must be ASC's somewhere; I'm hesitant to mail the phone away because I think the tech will just wipe it. The whole point is to maintain the data :-/
What do I need to flash to remove "Custom binary" ?
Will flashing the bootloader back to stock unlock the FRP lock?
That's BL throuh ODIN, right?
Do I have to flash AP ?
Won't that remove all user apps and their data, and any user data associated with system apps?

Not being funny, but you're panicking over nothing. I can pretty much guarantee you will NOT lose any data, apps or settings. The DATA partion is untouched by stock firmware.
Just flash the whole stock firmware(not repair firmware) and you'll be fine.
If you're super paranoid about losing data then just flash the AP part.

Thanks for the reassurance. I am pretty paranoid, because I feel like such an ass for making such a dumb mistake.
Will I lose:
Contacts?
Text messages??
Chrome Bookmarks???
My numerous open Chrome tabs?!?!
I'm just trying to understand what's happening, know what I'm doing.
Because I was clearly stupid enough to uncheck OEM Unlock. (WTF was I thinking?!)

It will be exactly as it was before. Nothing will change.
There are only 2 binaries that need flashing, boot and recovery, however unless you are flashing the exact firmware you had previously you may get compatibility issues, so it's best to just flash the whole firmware.

Thanks for the more specific information.
I've never found any discussions about how to solve the frp lock bootloop, with the intention of preserving user data.
If you will indulge me a bit more, I'd like to learn, test, and then share this for others.
Do you know exactly Custom binary blocked by FRP lock ""security" works?
Where is the flag that gets tripped?
In order to solve this bootloop, technically just Boot loader and Recovery need to be flashed (the exact versions must be used, or comparability issues can occur).
Bootloader should be simple enough: BL is one of the specific upload choices in Odin.
Recovery is a .bin that's contained with the AP.tar, correct?
Is it possible to specifically flash only the Recovery?
(I am reading other posts and pages as I write this, sorry if some of these points and questions seem "obvious"; I'm still learning. Aren't we all )
This thread is particularly detailed re: ODIN flashing, although it is from 2013, and for a specific device

No, I didn't mention the bootloader, that is a different part of the firmware. The boot and recovery images have a .img extension and should be flashed under AP.
It is the bootloader that detects non official firmware and trips the FRP flag. If it's disabled in settings via OEM UNLOCK the bootloader ignores it and allows the device to boot.
n00b mistake

Sh!t, sorry, boot.ing /= bootloader. Rookie mistake. #StillLearning
OK, so boot.img and recovery.img should both be contained within the AP component of stock firmware.
I can just flash those two, can't I?

Is there any non-GUI way to toggle the OEM UNLOCK?
Bootloader? Download mode? Recovery? Fastboot? ADB?
I assume not, since that might be a "security" risk. And also, if there were, problems like this would have solutions posted mentioning how to do that.
Sh!!!!!!!t... I was thinking I would have screenshots of the exact build that's loaded on my phone. That way I can find the right stock firmware.
Seems those screenshots are still in the phone, didn't get moved to external memory
All I know for sure is it's Andorid 5.1.1, but that probably isn't specific enough to get the exact right boot and recovery images.
I intend to flash the boot.img and recovery.img to my phone. Hopefully, this will avoid any data loss, while clearing the FRP lock bootloop.
I got the stock firmware for Android 5.1.1 for my Galaxy A3 (2016) (SM-A310M) here:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a3-/SM-A310M/TTT/download/A310MUBU2APE2/73991/
This set of instructions says to extract the .img file(s) to flash, then just .tar them up using 7zip, and flash it as AP in ODIN.
http://howto.highonandroid.com/sams...extract-stock-recovery-from-samsung-firmware/
But... this one says to use Unified Android Toolkit, option ‘8’ (Create an Odin flashable tar), and then flash with ODIN.
https://skipsoft.net/flashing-a-single-partition-i-e-system/
Fortunately, I have a Galaxy A3 (2017) (SM-A320Y), which I was just about to upgrade to for my daily driver. It's blank, running Android 7.0, so it means I can test this process, see if data is preserved, with almost no risk to actual data. Got that firmware here:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-A320Y/COO/download/A320YDXU1BQH2/189605/
Ironically... I don't yet have a great method to intentionally trip the FRP lock bootloop
I think rooting and then unchecking OEM Unlock should do it (that's what wrecked my A310M)
FRP lock - Usb does not recognize
Hi, Everyone!
Sorry my english.
My problem is the same as yours.
however, after this frp lock message appeared, my phone goes into download mode, but the pc does not recognize any more. what can i do to get flash from the rom stock and solve the frp lock problem.
Help me, please!
Thank you all
ScottHW said:

If they're both stock based firmware then you can just flash the stock S7 firmware. Data should remain untouched.

I presume only select AP. Also, hope I will not lose any data.

Can you tell us more?
How did it start?
Did something happen to it, or did you just notice it is not connecting?
The most easy things first, is your sim card correctly in place?
Which ROM are you on and have you reflashed it?

The phone started with problems since I upgraded to Android Pie, I have taken care of it very well but I do not know if it is a hardware failure, but note that in baseband turns out to be unknown, I installed several stock roms from fastboot without any success, also I thought it would be a problem of the EFS partition, but everything is fine I even took a backup in case the doubts, what could happen?

Did you originally update via OTA, meaning, was it the official update?
Then when you noticed it's not working, you tried to flash several stock ROMs?
One possible problem that comes to mind, is that for some reason, you have the wrong radio/modem firmware. That can happen for example, if you have flashed a ROM, which is not meant for your region.

Yes, upgrade to Android pie via OTA
I already put a stock rom of the same region, following each fastboot command one by one, but everything continues the same, I even installed RROS 7, to see if at least it turned on the wifi, and it is in bootloop.

Go with the modding guide index: how to restore stock ROM etc., and flash a stock ROM that you know will work. Flash the radio/modem file too, and make sure it's the correct one.
Just to say, I had connection problems too, and in the end they were because the sim card did not latch correctly in place i.e. was not correctly in place.

Great that you have an idea. ?
Here's an idea: take a backup of your current config in twrp, move it to the computer, take a copy. Replace the files in that copy with the ones that you want to flash.
Did you mean this? You are aware that you can try different radio/modem files through fastboot, not having to flash everything else every time? That said, go with your idea. ?

I probably can't help at this point, apologies! My suggestion is to flash a stock ROM, lock the bootloader and send the phone for repairs. There could be a solution to this, but I'm out of ideas. ?*

Hello, colud you solve the problem? Because I am havig a very similar one...
Hello group friends, I'm new here. I have a similar problem, I was using the Havoc 2.4 rom, when upgrading to 2.6 I no longer recognize my SIM card and the wi-fi does not connect, I can not install another rom anymore, nor rom stock, recovery TRWP has been replaced by the Havoc and the Wipe System function does not work, and for a few days you can not stay in recovery mode anymore, it restarts every 3 seconds, not the time to click the options. Can someone help me. I'm without a cell phone, and I need it.
I have a similar issue after flashing the latest firmware. SIM goes to "SIM locked" every ten seconds or so, and Wifi drops at the same tie. It's like networking is being reset every 10 seconds. No network settings I've tried change that.
I've flashed several stock ROMs; the one I had previously, newest, oldest, both for RETEU and retail. I used Lenovo restore to upgrade but that resulted in soft brick, after that I flashed the latest firmware via Fastboot and that's when the problem started.
With Oreo, wifi and cellular don't work at all, nothing detected. With Pie they're connected and dropped in a loop. I can't help thinking that the Lenovo restore broke this somehow, but modem files have been reflashed several times after that with no change. I'm not getting the baseband error.

I have the exact same problem, I wasn't able to repair it so I sent it to service and tomorrow they will try to fix it for $35. The problem with goign back to previous versions is that you loose the IMEI and MAC . The problem with the pie version I believe is the baseband. If the service is able to fix it I will post the solution here for you to fix it .

I believe you already tried puting it into bootloader mode. If that's the case, I had a similar problem recently an it solved alone, I let it loop for a while and suddenly fell, into dtock recovey, i factory reset (with stock recovery) and somehow stock was booted ( i believe it was because it was in inactive slot).
Hope this helps you

I am still working on this, I actually did this to a work phone (I had permission to root/unroot). Something that has helped me so far is just getting familiar with the whole flashing process - https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...actory-images-android-using-fastboot-0175277/. I think from this article the problem lies in the modem/radio rom. That *should* be the only thing you need to flash on. However, I have noticed with a lot of roms on here, a modem rom is not included on the stock firmware. But that needs to match well to your phone from what I understand. I have tried a few modem roms already, unfortunately, but no luck.
