Hi all
I have a Runbo X5 rugged smartphone which I need to replace the back 8MP camera module, as I ended up breaking it while repairing the USB port on the phone (just a slight knock took the top of the camera module off and broke the focus wires and springs :crying.

The back of the ribbon cable to the camera module reads WDSOL934105-V1 YW (I guess this probably doesn't matter). The back of the image sensor which I desoldered from the ribbon cable reads W F OV8825, which is a 8MP BSI-cmos sensor which works with a MIPI interface according to the product overview: www.ovt.com/products/sensor.php?id=179
The phone is based on the MTK6577 / MT6577 platform I believe. It also runs android 4.0.4 (and is rooted) if it makes any difference.
I am hoping that I can just buy any 8MP camera module from Aliexpress which has the same size and number of pins and solder it onto the ribbon cable and expect it to have the same pinout and work flawlessly? Or will I have to purchase an exact replacement with the same OV8825 sensor model number? The other thing that bugs me is the mention of a 256-byte embedded OTP memory in the image sensor for PN identification, would it be likely that the phone's firmware would check if that matches the original one and reject it if it doesn't? Also, while I'm at it would it be likely that a similar 13MP camera module might work as well? As the newest version of this phone comes with one (and the older version of the runbo X5 came with a 5mp camera so maybe it is changeable?)
Thanks for any advice
Josh
I'd personally stick with the same OV8825 sensor and just resolder it on the flat flex. Why?
-the drivers are (kinda) hard to replace, and are not like those for Windows, not very straight forward
-the pinout is likely to be different from the OV8825 to the OV13870
-the camera controller on the PCB is unlikely to be the same for the 8825 and for the 13870
-the size of the actual module may be bigger
Overall, if you feel adventurous or just plain want to experiment, you may go ahead and order the OV13870 from wherever you want and share the results with us.

SO: My pda have a not working flash camera.
For me is much important! I use continuously this as a torch!
But now it doesn't light up...
I've umounted the pda, and all appears correct.
There are 2 possibility:
Flash led broken
Motherboard broken
I would to ask you if anyone try to change this.
I'm able to repair it if I'll know the model (or only voltage and wattage!!) of the SMD led that is mounted... There are no risks to change this because it's on a separated circuit board..
I can be try to use a normal plcc smd white led, but if it has incorrect values it can damage the eintire pda!
Otherwise, tou know about the costs or how to find original led to replace?
Very thanks at all.
Noboday knows?
Working with computers and electronics I doubt that you will find the specific LED that is used as a flash on your phone. Even if you did find the part, would have to un-solder then solder the new part onto your phone. If you are not a professional solder I do recommend messing with the circuit boadrs on your phone. You do sound confident about soldering.
I have been looking for parts for my phone and found eBay.com to be a good resource.
Try buying a used phone and salvaging the parts to fix your phone.
Good Luck

Thank you.
Unfortunately, my problem is to FIND the led. I can use a "simple" led, but this category of leds are rare, and various.
I would the model of led! Or current exact values...
There are no problems with soldering, i'm able to solder, and to sold smd leds, I did practice with a lot of this led on my car indicators...

Also they're mounted on a separated printed circuit board, a small piece that contains also the led and two contacts.
My problem isn't to mount the led... Is to find it.

How hard to fix? Nothing to fix. Fixing such phones is replacing broken parts with new ones. Case is for replace (made of aluminium, expensive probably), camera module probably for replace (it's all in one assembled together), camera led seems to be for replace too. Replacing that all is 30minutes and pretty easy. Look for parts prices on net.
Well I went to a HTC service in my city and they tell Me that they have to change all motherboard if I want to fix it and that will cost me as much as new phone and they have to do it cuz my phone is bougth from from another countrey and the don't have the software for fixing it so I'm stucked.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Whoever told you that is a moron. If the phone is booting the motherboard is fine. What they have to replace is the volume button ribbon cable assembly. It has the board that the camera and speaker/headphone jack is mounted on. that part is about $40 USD. The camera is about 15 USD and the back casing is about $50 USD. And why would they need software to replace a flex cable assembly. Don't do business with them.
Does it all work fine?
replacement LED flash lens covers and Rear battery covers are very cheap to buy
there are many videos on youtube "Desire Hd Disassembly" that tell you how to open it up, its just a few screws to remove the back cover,
main problem with opening the dhd is the warranty void stickers and to get to two of the screws you need to remove the sticker near the battery that has your IMEI/ serial on it, and its hard to stick back on
Hi All!
I bought a N4 off ebay that had its back replaced, here is what the listing said, "This phone has a replacement back glass WITHOUT wireless charging or NFC capabilities." which I dont really care about but my WIFI range and GPS is terrible.
I've tried multiple kernels and roms *including complete stock everything*
Its not my setup as my HTC one s, multiple laptops, wii, ipod, ect,ect all work perfect on my Asus Router rt-n66u.
Does anyone have anything I can try?
Also have a thread up for my gps : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365187
Thanks for reading!
Since the replacement back does not support NFC or wireless charging, do you think it was suitable to support any other wireless feature that was designed for the Nexus 4? Does Bluetooth suffer the same reduced sensitivity? If the replacement back is not made of similar materials withsimilar characteristics as the original back it might be absorbing or reflecting signals, interferring with proper wireless recepton.

Well thats my fear,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257896
Looking at this post it looks like whoever replaced this phones cover didn't transfer over the copper attenna's , that would be my guess and would explain my horrible wifi and GPS ... luckily my phone reception is good.
I'll have to open up my back now and take a look... now to have a T5 screwdriver at work..
Unfortunately cant find a t5 here at work , I'll have to wait till I get home.

Looking at this image looks like I should only be missing the top right 2 antennas for Band 5 , GPS, WLAN, BT. I assume I have the other 2 antenna's as my phone reception is good .
Anyone know where I can buy just the antenna's?
Hi,
My Nexus 7 Gen 2 usb stopped charging (it was on/off for a while but now fully stopped).
I ordered a new USB component from eBay so I was desoldering the old one this morning but unfortunatley the 5 pins at the back ripped a few of the pads from the board off.
I was wondering before I order a new USB PCB for £40 is it possible to re trace the 5 pins and wire them to somewhere different on the board??
Looking at this picture this is what I thought I could do:

You could try soldering to those solder pads right before the resistors/caps in the path. If you bypass those, and solder directly to the exposed pads you identified, you may have issues, i.e. those resistors/caps are probably there for a reason . That's what I would try anyways.
did you ever end up soldering to these pads? cause any issues?

nevermind, didnt work of course. Ended up soldering to the pads just before those caps, just needed to not be lazy about it.
I was replacing the back housing of Nexus 6p to change up a little for fun, for the second time. The first replacement took place a month ago, from silver (OEM) to black. Since the black housing is scratched quickly without a case, I bought a white one, which came in today.
Upon inspection, I found this metal clip right above the camera cutout (shown in the picture below, it is from my OEM housing) to be missing on the new/white housing. Do you know what this thing does, and if absent, will it pose any issue using the phone? I thought it could be antenna connection at first, but then I found many other small clips stemming out from the board instead of the housing, so I thought those might be the antenna connections. Then what does this clip stemming out from the housing do

This is the clip supposed-to-be from my OEM housing
This is the clip broken piece from the new housing I got.
That clip connects to a contact above the camera as seen on ifixit teardown

Yes, any idea what purpose it might serve though? I have put the housing on anyway, just fear that it might cause some functionality issue down the road.

any kind of connection as such, using a spring clip, means its meant to get signal from A to B. In this case, it seems is something that may use some soft of radio signal.
anything like that missing a connection will surely affect something (is there for a reason)
