Hi All!
I bought a N4 off ebay that had its back replaced, here is what the listing said, "This phone has a replacement back glass WITHOUT wireless charging or NFC capabilities." which I dont really care about but my WIFI range and GPS is terrible.
I've tried multiple kernels and roms *including complete stock everything*
Its not my setup as my HTC one s, multiple laptops, wii, ipod, ect,ect all work perfect on my Asus Router rt-n66u.
Does anyone have anything I can try?
Also have a thread up for my gps : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365187
Thanks for reading!
Since the replacement back does not support NFC or wireless charging, do you think it was suitable to support any other wireless feature that was designed for the Nexus 4? Does Bluetooth suffer the same reduced sensitivity? If the replacement back is not made of similar materials withsimilar characteristics as the original back it might be absorbing or reflecting signals, interferring with proper wireless recepton.

Well thats my fear,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257896
Looking at this post it looks like whoever replaced this phones cover didn't transfer over the copper attenna's , that would be my guess and would explain my horrible wifi and GPS ... luckily my phone reception is good.
I'll have to open up my back now and take a look... now to have a T5 screwdriver at work..
Unfortunately cant find a t5 here at work , I'll have to wait till I get home.

Looking at this image looks like I should only be missing the top right 2 antennas for Band 5 , GPS, WLAN, BT. I assume I have the other 2 antenna's as my phone reception is good .
Anyone know where I can buy just the antenna's?

I'm not 100% sure, but i suspect it may be utilised by the replacement battery cover for the official HTC car kit, which charges the battery when clamped on.
Just a guess, though. I have been wondering about it myself.
Regards,
BHLC
its for the car mount
GG
does anyone have its pinout?
1 is GND
2 ????
3 +5V
Thanks.
And this plots (both sides), that seem to be connected by the back cover?

I suspect these are to stop the back cover from becoming loose and rattling. if you press them they are spring loaded.

I think the back cover is used like antenna. These plots are used to connect the back cover to the rest of the electronics.
It is most probably for the official car kit. It was supposed to have a different back cover that allowed for mounting on the kit and charging. This car kit however has now changed design. HTC have designed a kit that uses the usb port to charge. see here http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=12298

Would be a shame if they'd bring it to market like this
The Wifi of my HD2 is all of the sudden barely working. It only gets a signal if it's about an inch away from a router, so in practice it's not really working.
I tried several roms and radios, run task 29, but nothing has had any effect.
Do you have any ideas what has happened? Do you think it is hardware-related?
Have you checked in the WIFI settings, there is an option for best performance or best battery.
Yeah, it doesn't seem to change anything.
maybe uve bent the phone and the antennas/antennas solder pad disconnected
Interesting.. I have been pushing the sides of the (somewhat recently replaced) digitizer pretty hard in an attempt to make it fit perfectly, because the service-people apparently didn't do so. Could this have loosened or disconnected something?
Another possibility is of course that the service-people did something, but they claim that's not possible.
Anyone?
(yea, this is a bump of sorts)
WiFi signal extremely weak
I have the same problem with my HD2. I tried changing ROM and/or Radio but nothing happens. This is not my first HD2, i buy them and then sell them here in my country so it is probably a hardware issue. However this is the first HD2 i got that is apparently manufactured after June of this year, which I think is a new model.
Here is a comparison between the HD2 and a Pure, side by side in the same room. (The router is about 3 meters from the devices)

Any other one with a problem like this?
yeah, my HD2 has always got weak WiFi signals, while my laptop shows 4 bars, the HD2 only shows 2 bars. But back then, the WiFi is still usable.
but since last week, I kept getting disconnected from the WiFi router when i try to access the internet. No matter how many different ROMs and Radio i try, they are all the same.
I'm starting to wonder if HTC hardware fails after a certain period of usage... hmm...
Phone was prolly damaged during the repair process, take it back and have them replace it
I'm on my second X8 in two weeks, the first kept losing signal and dropping calls in places where my cheap work phone would show good signal. O2 my provider were very good and swapped it but the new one is exactly the same!
I've done a bit of net searching and found a few folk with similar issues on the X8 but not huge numbers. Anybody here have this problem? found a cure for it?
I think those magnetic things you put under the battery to improve signal are pure snake oil so won't go that route but without a solution I'm going to have to send back the X8 and go for another make. No point having a phone that can't make phone calls.
that is the weird problem..
it's diffence for me, my phone is better signal if compare with other's phone.
in my experience, have you used the battery/energy saver? it could impact the signal i think. more u reduce the signal/battery, more poor the signal u would received..
When I first got this phone, it was fine, reception wasn't a problem. But a month later, my reception is terrible and it's really hard to connect to the internet, I can only do it in certain places. Where as before I could do it anywhere.
I'm worried I might have damaged the 3G aerial when I dropped it that one time.

I have the same experince like 2 above. The signal is better than on my other phones
So the problem is unique, not common in all X8
It's not a battery issue, I keep the phone well topped up and it even happens when the phone is vehicle mounted on charge. I drive a lot and use the phone a lot, there's an area on one of the routes I take about a mile long where there is no signal at all, the X8 loses reception much sooner and gets it back much later than any other phone I've used (i.e. 2-3 mile area). This makes me think the antenna is not very good or is blocked somehow by the phone body.
It's a shame, I like the phone, I know it's cheap and I was happy to accept slow performance / lack of features but in every respect it works well, it's well built and looks good. I just can't trust it not to cut me off mid call.
Ive had the 0% battery issue for the past couple of days, so I started reading multiple threads about the battery not charging issue when I came across @winter128 stating he took the back cover off and noticed the batery cable wasnt even plugged in. I did the same and noticed the exact same thing. Evidently the battery cable does not have any locking mechanism, so it works itself out. While I was pushing the battery cable into the slot, I accidently broke one of the (2) gold tabs that are the WiFi. I put the cover back on, powered up the N7, and now my battery says 100%. WiFi seems to be working just fine also.
Any ideas what this additional tab is for?

STEP 5 is where it says these tabs are for WiFi
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-7-Teardown/9623/1
arm chairing thus one
if it's for wifi it might be for an external antenna hookup
have you tried to see if nfc is working?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
mine broke too
the only difference I took out the other side of the wifi contact. My N7 (8gb) is having the "I don't wanna charge if i'm at 4% or less" issue so I crack it open and do a 'hard' power cycle the battery. IDK if it will have issues yet, it's still charging. If it does I'll sell it and get the 16 or 32.
umm.. antennas work in loops. the two contacts are probably the loop around the back cover.
update #1
I RMA'ed it back to Asus. Wifi sig dropped. I need it to work 90 ft from AP (no solid walls) for work, it didn't. At home it'd work only in the room the AP was in. I'll post the results from Asus repair if they deem I need to pay and how much. Just so ppl know what to look forward too. I informed them I had a "spongy" screen too. So, IDK if that will effect my repair bill.

I have just opened up my nexus 7, I got one for Christmas but noticed the wifi signal being very weak. Tried everything on my router but no luck, so brought a plastic pry tool and opened it up tonight and I notice where the two wifi antennas should be both are missing. There was a s/n sticker just above the where the antenna should be and stuck to the sticker is what I presume is one of the antennas so will be arranging a warranty repair tomorrow
I did not have this issue before change my charging socket.

Issiue:
My phone gets H/H+/3G mobile data so hardly.
Even if I inside a building it only gets "Edge" signal or non!
In a building with same phone and gsm op. others get 3G etc. but mine phone gets Edge.
I set APN, wipe cache, reboot etc.. Nothing changed.
PS: If I change WCDMA/GSM(auto) to Just WCDMA, I get H+,3G sometimes in a building but it turns to no service or no data at frequent intervals. Not stable to use..
Reads like you have damaged a component .

Which component you think?
I have seen reports where people used a cheap third-party USB replacement and the phone started to suffer charging, sync, and/or signal issues.
If the phone connects at 3g before the part change, install the old part and see what happens.

I don't have the old damaged part.
Otherwise phone connect the 3G but not everywhere. It doesn't connect in a building but connects out of the building or connects very normally at popular squares.
Is the signal worse with the new part? If it is, maybe buy another one and try? I got cheap one from Aliexpress and it worked very well for a Note 3 n900w8.

Signal is the same like first time no problem.
Simply it doesn't connect 3G or H/H+ in a building connect EDGE.
I guess the only way to know for sure would be to buy another replacement.
Anyone thinkin something else?
Thinking aerial .
