galaxy note (edge) app on S7E - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

ok, so I held off for a while moving from my Note Edge, I kind of need to be able to take a screen shot of my kids homework my wife sends me while on the road and make corrections to it. on the note I can use 2 fingers and zoom in and out or move to a different part of the screenshot when I move it with 2 touches.
Using the S Pen is ok, but not a necessity.
Any thought on a good app for this, I have looked at several apps on Play and none do the above.

happy with the S-Pen, if yes explain

I am NOT very happy with my S-Pen because I have to press REALLY hard before the S-Pen touch register on the screen.
This makes the following very hard to do and not practical:
- Taking notes: kinda hard trying to take notes when I have to keep "jabbing" the screen really hard
- Drawing: forget about the pressure sensitive feature, there is only one for me --> press really hard!
I tried replacing the S-Pen (bought one from my local Fry's Electronics), no go.
How about you? Can you use the S-Pen on practical day-to-day basis...or this is just another "gimmick" for you?
I don't have to press any harder than I would with paper and a pencil. Although even now and again it will stop writing, like show a space between two lines because I didn't press hard enough. A lot of peoples are apparently too sensitive sometimes and will start to write above the screen... Samsung seems to have screwed up a few things with the note

Looks like you have a problems with touch screen.
I try to use it. But always end up shoving it back in it's holder and just tapping out texts the old way.
Find it difficult to write with anyway, it doesn't flow naturally and seems a little behind all the time. Not got use to how fast or slow to use it.
The S pen is ok. Its not as good as I thought it was and I actually only use it to make rage comics and post them on 9gag.
Its not very useful for taking down notes on the spot

My Problem is as follow :
There are 2 zones in my screen that don't respond to the pen at the First time,
I attached 2 screenshots showing :
The First with the blank untouchable 2 zones,
The second, is the same try, but I added some drawings later with my finger.
So this means that my screen is OK, and May be something is wrong with the S pen.
Any body experienced the same issue?
Sorry for the second screenshot, The volume bar came in
But you can clearly See the cercle with the + incidents. At the buttom zone.

I tell you what,
Even If I stayed a month digging, I would'nt guess!
Thank you Thank you Thank you so much.
You saved my note
The First thing I will do now, is to throw my case away, and look for a non magnetic one.
Take a look at my thread, That could interest you:

My S Pen works fine for writing and drawing. It's basically the same as writing with a pen for me in terms of pressure. Granted, it is thinner and a little less friction on the surface than pen and paper.
I write a lot on whiteboards for work and it is a little similar to that for me. When writing on a whiteboard, you don't anchor your hand on the surface like you would with paper.
Sometimes if I want to draw very accurately, I will anchor my writing hand on the fingers of the hand holding the phone that stick out from the right hand side. But I find writing like this slower.
I use the S Pen a lot more than I though I would before I bought it. I originally thought it would be a gimmick and just wanted the big screen, but I use it a lot for taking handwritten notes in FreeNote+ (I find this quicker than dealing with text conversion and auto-correction) and also find it a lot more accurate for drawing and photo editing.
I also find myself using it for Swype quite a lot. It's quicker than using my fingers. I think because there's less friction and you have a longer reach, so you hand doesn't actually have to move as much.
Also, the accuracy is excellent for some games like Fruit Ninja and Deer Hunter.
It works well for me. Though, need to get a bit of used to.
I use it mainly for taking notes...
I use mine when I am wearing gloves. No need to remove them.
I use it for taking notes an play DrawSomething! I love it. Everybody prases my drawings and at several iPhone players say they envy my Note and wish they had one

Those who enjoy using the on, do you see any issue with it? I.e. Pen not registering in screen, must press hard, etc.

useful
I find the S-Pen incredibly useful whenever you want to write something down on the go.
I find it much faster to take out my phone and launch a smartly-placed app to start taking a quick note (phone number, adress, any work-related post-it...) rather than searching your pockets for something to write on and asking for a pen (though i still always carry one on me )
The trick is then to process the notes and not just leave them in that folder you never go to. Well, that just takes a little discipline.
As for good apps, i've only tried a few but i think the first important thing to look out for in such an app is it's capacity to transform you're wavery note-taking skills into a nice smooth handwritten text on the screen. The S-Memo tool does it pretty well but i would recommend something more like Papyrus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580716&highlight=papyrus) which has some pretty useful vector-imaging capabilities.
EDIT : I forgot to add that the s-pen is meant to work without pressure on the phone (though it still requires a minimum of contact), and works flawlessly on mine (i don't use cases or covers to protect the phone, i just take care of it.). Anyone needing to press hard on their phone for the s-pen to work has a problem, either with the phone or the pen. Consider having it checked.
I don't use it for all tasks, because that would just make things much harder. It's good for playing basic games though, like Draw Something, or just any other game where it feels better to use the S-Pen.

No, I don't have such problem. Sometimes, I find it a bit sensitive than I had hoped.
If you have to press REALLY hard for it to register, it might be a good idea to go to a shop and test one out to see if it's the same as your unit.
Maybe try and test their S Pen with your phone to see if it's a problem with the S Pen or the screen.
I think the spen is to small for 1 handed users. But works perfectly fine for all spen activities.

How I felt superior to someone sitting next me.

I am a college student and I use my Note 10.1 to take notes in classes that typing notes is not viable (e.g. engineering).
I noticed that a girl sitting next to me was also taking notes using a stylus and a tablet. So my immediate thought was "Is she also using a Note 10.1?" but I quickly realized she was using an iPad as soon as I looked at the tablet.
So she was using a capacitive stylus with a huge rubber tip and a tablet without palm rejection to take hand written notes on her iPad. I don't know what app she was using, but it looked pretty nice though. Because the tip is too big to right in normal size and it's hard to write anywhere but bottom of the screen without palm rejection, the app implemented designated writing area at the bottom. It basically zoomed a rectangular part of the notebook which you could drag around on the screen. But of course, it cannot compare to Note 10.1 with an actual stylus for writing.
So that's why I felt superior haha. I didn't pay too much attention to her afterwards, but she probably saw me taking notes on my tablet too.
About taking notes with Note 10.1 in general, it's been great. I have successfully gone paperless. I bring a single notebook around for all of my classes just in case, but I never had to use it. In classes where I can type notes, I just use a bluetooth keyboard because I can type faster than write. I don't think I will ever need to go back to taking notes on paper.
In my opinion, this thread can't offer much to this section.
Closed.

[Q] What do you use the SPen to do?

I recently lost my Note 3 and didn't really have enough time with my first smartphone to find any major flaws with it other than Samsung's bloatware. However, with inevitable arrival of more phablets with impressive hardware, I was wondering if I should just get another Note 3 or wait.
The one thing that's making me consider waiting is the fact that I never really used the S Pen. The pen window never really seemed all that useful for me. That new app Cover seems like it'd take care of any fast switching I'd need to do anyway.
The only thing I ever used the S Pen for was editing photos, but even then I didn't feel as if I really took full advantage of its accuracy. Maybe I used the wrong apps. S Note was cool, but it's much faster to just type things than write it. And writing phone numbers and saving them was also nifty, but wasn't anywhere near as fast as just opening the phonebook and adding a new contact.
So what do you use it for and do you have any recommendations?

I never used the pen with my last note and I don't use it with this one either.
Tbh I rarely use mine also, unless I'm jotting down a note at work for something I need to do later.. but even then I'm a left and find it awkward to write sometimes.

i use it to pick things out from under my finger nails
do you guys mean it works with the phone. i thought it was like the bits of a swiss army knife
I use my S-Pen a lot. Mainly because I like to doodle and the fact I don't like finger marks on my nice clean screen. I don't have a protector on it at the minute. I also use the handwriting recognition when sending texts.
Also my mates little girl likes using my phone to draw, and I help her with her reading, writing and spelling on it. Fabulous tool!

Ha, never knew you could use handwriting recognition for sending texts, just tried it. Looks like it works in pretty much any typeable field.
Yes, late to the party I know....
Note 3 is my 1st phone with S Pen, after using it, I fall in love with it. I often take screenshot and then use S Pen to write something on it, it is really useful.

So edge screen pretty much useless?

I had an s6 for a year that i sold for a note5, then traded my note 5 64gb in for this. While the phone is sleek, sexy, better processor etc im not a fan on the edge screen. Its basically useless. Its just a cool factor to show off. It serves no special purpose. While i knew this and decided to upgrade thats totally my homer dough moment. Everything else about the phone is awesome. The reason im regretting it because anything that needs to be touched on the actual edges doesnt freaking respond. For example. I have to hit the letter p a couple times because it doesnt always register. I hope i can live with this lol. As it kind of takes away screen real estate. This goes for any app. Try it yourself. Maybe something is wrong with mine idk. Phone seems perfect other than it having edges. Sorry for the vent, but id test this out in stores first before you buy since i didn't do it. I already sent off my note 5 so i doubt i can get it back.

Works fine for me.
it has a ton of edge features you just may not no it. edge feeds edge lighting notifications, quick launch anything from right edge fully customizable. if you have the phone on face down the edge light will periodically flash alerts. while the screens off take your finger and swipe it back and for on the edge. wow news feeds notifications stock tickers all customizable
Make sure you apply the update mine works just fine and I love the edge screen it has a lot of options that are handy for me that I can get to quickly
I'm liking the new Edge features. I use it more now.

The problem that I have run into and maybe this really what is going on with you. I have stuff not respond to realize the my pinky is touching the edge of the screen. You really got to watch for that.

I have that issue and if I hold it in my left hand, the bottom left corner my palm touches, I can't use the phone left handed. The update fixed the right palm touching the screen, but my left palm has issues.
The a key has a lot of difficulty with the edge. I've learned to work around it; I primarily swype/slyde/whatever it's called to type, so it's only with passwords that I have an issue.
I remember a few years ago I used to be able to swype passwords; I hate having to manually key each letter. It may be safer, but whatever.
I had the same issue when I first began using my s7 edge. I then moved the edge tab to the top of the phone screen and I haven't had an issue since. I use Swiftkey for my keyboard, best available in my opinion.
No problems with the Edge screen here, and I like some of the functionality it offers. Of course, almost all of those functions could work with a flat screen, too, but Samsung didn't give us that option.

Favorite Thing About New Phone?

For those who have already received their device, what is your favorite thing about it coming from your old device? Also, do you have any dislikes so far? For those who are still waiting, what are you most excited for?
I'll start, I am coming from the Note 5, and have had every Note in the series except for the first. I will be pairing this with my S7 Edge and rocking both at once. My favorite thing I am looking forward to is jumping into a pool with both in pocket, and watching all my iPhone friends having heart attacks. And of course just having all the new S-Pen features and getting my 256GB Micro SD card. Your turn!!!

Notification panel is a lot easier to use, no more long pressing...
Came from a Note 2. The new S Pen is nice. I woke up this morning and started entering stuff in to S Health. The screen is nice and bright and the resolution is awesome. The phone is incredibly fast. I enabled developer options and turned off all of the animation scales. I also changed the built in content scaling from large to small to take advantage of my young eyes. The iris scanner is a cool idea but as of right now I don't use it as an option for my lock screen. I can either use a pattern or the finger print from either of my thumbs. The edge feed is cool. I reordered it to show my step count first and then notifications. The HRM (Heart Rate Monitor) sensor on the back below the flash is a cool feature. It works in conjunction with S Health. You can also use it when the phone is flipped on to it's face to ignore a call and send a message by holding your finger over it for 2 seconds. So far the phone is pretty sweet.

Damn, coming from the Note 2? This is a huge upgrade for you then. I hope you really enjoy your time with it. I literally just got it in hand and I am loving it so far. Really nice and sleek.
Yeah a big upgrade for me. My Note 2 is still pretty solid considering its age.
Being able to write a memo without unlocking the device is pretty sweet. If I need to write something down right away, I just pull the spen out and go.
Of course I also like the water resistance.
I came from the Note 5 also. I've owned all the Notes, except the first one. What drew me to the Note 7 was the IP-68 dust & water resistance, the new s-pen and the 256GB SD offer. BTW Verizon sold me the new Gear VR for $49.99 with proof of purchase of Note 7.

My Note 2 is a solid phone. Still using it on WiFi. I did however burn the 6 crown towers from Clash Royale in to the screen though haha
