Check this out... Really makes me want to consider the regular S6.
1. I NEVER lay my phone face down.
2. I don't care about the ability to pull my fav contacts in from the side to call or message.

I really don't think anyone considering the edge is considering it for those reasons. It's mainly aesthetic.

You could very well be right.
The writer seems happy that Samsung is willing to create something just for aesthetics but at the same time disappointed that it has no real functionality.

It's the same way I feel about it.
" a notification light for when the phone is face down, but since people only put their phones face down to not be distracted by them, that light is unhelpful and thus doesn’t count."
That statement is bang on. Why would I put my phone face down at all, if I still want to see the notification light? If I wanted to know what's going on with my phone, I'd leave it face up on the table.
The night clock... personally, I rather have a normal sized desk alarm clock on my nightstand. If I'm checking the time in middle of the night, I really don't want to have to squint through the grogginess.
The contacts swipe, while interesting, could be applied to any phone, and it kind of already has with Pie controls.
The aesthetics, man, the Edge looks beautiful to me. However, I'm usually a case (or at least a bumper) user, so I'm sure the extra $100 could be spent better for myself for other things.
I'll have to stick with the regular S6, unless the edge was the same price or maybe.. $50 more only.

I'm probably the only one, and even then, it's still at least half for aesthetic reasons.
Thing is, I already go out of my way to differentiate callers before I have to interact with my device. At certain hours, my phone literally only rings for certain people. The current edge features, for me, pretty much just expand on that sort of thing. I'm hoping to be able to disable the vibrate function in certain situations and just rely on the color coding of the Edge screen.
Not to mention I'm guessing 3rd party devs might come up with some relatively nifty apps for the Edge screens sooner or later.
My thing right now is trying to find a case that doesn't stifle the beauty of the device too much while also not hiding the screen edges, yet, still offering some measure of decent protection. Might be an impossible battle (or I'll have to fabricate my own... I have ideas as to how it'd need to be done but I need the device in hand), but I'm waiting to see what my usual case manufacturer (Noreve) comes up with first. I know they always take the time to make their cases highly customized to specific designs of various devices, so if anyone is going to get it right it's them.
The writer states that there is no point to the beauty. But that's wrong -- the point is to be unique. The point is to stand out. Had there been no Edge version, the S6 story would be, "iPhone clone, looks like the S5 up front". The Edge changes that narrative. Instead of being "nice looking" like the S6, the Edge creates desire. That's the point.

Hopefully so. Right now, I'm justifying paying more because of
1) aesthetics
2) slightly larger battery
3) slightly smaller form factor
It would be nice to add functionality to that list as well.
There have been a few reviews that have showed the Edge with higher benchmarks and significantly longer battery life over the regular S6. So while that isn't necessarily a function of the curves, there may be some functional difference between the two models with the Edge having the advantage.
I went to best buy and checked both, the S6 feel amazing in the hand, the S6 edge feel weird, because of the small metal border, maybe after you get use to it ,everything will feel normal

Wait what...they are in Best Buy?
Yes they are at Best Buy, you can check them, but pre order only
Sweet! I'll drive over and check them out
so i went to best buy and tried it out. first impression: the s6 felt better in hand, but the edge is the best looking smartphone on the market. i decided to pre-order the s6 because of the in-hand feeling and so i could save $100 bucks.
a few hours later, i couldn't stand it, so i went back to best buy and played around with the both of them again. i switched my pre-order to the edge version. the infinity pool effect is just so cool, and i was getting used to the sharper frame of the edge. also, it feels really nice to swipe in from the edge, and the curved screen does a great job of not registering inadvertent touches. also, the edge definitely got the most attention. lots of people looking at the edge. brought a friend with me who buys only apple products and he was impressed by the edge right off the bat. i guess in the end i caved, but this is the most excited i've been for a smartphone in a long time.

I felt the same way about the S6 edge, it was too sharp in the hands. The S6 is more natural feeling like a phone should feel. Granted, the edge is a beautiful device. Now I have to change my pre-order to the regular S6.

Agreed. I played with both versions at Best Buy today...the S6 Regular feels much better in the hand to me than the S6 Edge
Opposite for me. The regular felt nice, but the Edge felt perfect. It also felt smaller and lighter in the hand even though the specs show a hairsbreadth of difference.

I agree. Plus the S6 does not make me want to upgrade from S5, just another phone, while the Edge has something new about it.
The S6 is a restyled iteration of the Galaxy line. The Edge looks like it stepped off the set of ST:TNG.
It's unique, that's why. First smartphone to have a dual edge screen.
Now you've had the phone for a while and got to check out the camera, speaker battery life and everything else that matters to you. Would you recommend or buy the GS7E again?

Yup definitely an awesome phone... It does have a few bugs but software updates should fix most of it.... Samsung does still have some shady quality control still... I've had to return my phone twice.... One I got had a pink screen and one phone had a dead microphone..... I thought this is the first Galaxy I wouldn't have to return but after a day or two people kept telling me they couldn't hear me talking.... I've had to return every Galaxy phone since the S2 at least once
Galaxy S7 edge
Still would recommend it without batting an eye. Beautiful phone, nice battery life, neat performance, nice camera... it has its quirks, like the fingerprint magnet the back is or the rare performance drops without apparent reason, from which it recovers immediately luckily. It's not perfect, but as it is atm it's definitely worth the money.

I would buy it again.
Since using the Device, i have fallen in love with features that are so novelty it's unreal.
Small little gimmicky things like the Always on Display notifications down the side.
Love bezeless!!!!
Love the feel of the screen, Maybe its coming from a Reto phone, but the glass feels super silky!!! my fingers glide across so nice.
No more juttery thumbs and fingers when a little hot / sweaty !!!!!
It feels like a really premium phone (Does make me squint a small knocks or drops though)
I still cannot get over the Snappyness, Battery life and overall performance.
I was Slightly disappointed by the Audio, But nothing a simple root cannot fix (Thanks Viper)
I am coming down in Screen Size too (Something i really didnt want to do)
And i like the smaller screen, Feels more natural.
One down side about the device.
Is one handed mode SHOULD Disable the Edges from being Touch sensitive.
I cannot use it one handed properly without activating the Edge touch!
(Maybe Xposed Module)
Not a major issue, and something my hands will adjust to over time.
Oh and how bloody slippy the phone is!! Christ!!! i have caught the phone so many times as its slipped out of my own hands!!!
I had the S6 Edge right when it first came out, and was not happy with it, had it for 3 months and changed to Xperia Z3+ Dual, no issues there.
I bough the S7 Edge, and no regrets at all, beautiful phone, great battery, no heat issues, best screen I've ever had, etc., the only issue I've had with this one, is that it will restart itself for no reason every 10 days or so, it restarts pretty fast, however I don't know what to make of that.
I would definetly recommend this phone to anybody.
Absolutely. I've had no problems with mine, other than notifications on AOD not working correctly. It's possible that's down to something I did, since they worked in the beginning. But I've turned AOD off anyway, so not a big deal.
Everything else is working fine. Like what I believe to be the vast majority of owners, I've had no issues with battery, phantom key presses, sounds, or anything else.
Absolutely, never thought a phone can grow on me so quickly with no major draw backs. I fell in love with the design.
The software is sublime, works as it should, fast and smooth. Not a single crash since i started using the phone. I use the auto restart feature, so the phone is always in top shape for when i use it.
I just can't fault it yet, i can almost feel the love that went into creating it, just setting on a table, it begs you to pick it up.
I would recommand it in a heart beat
Honestly, the only reason I jumped on this phone was the promo for the Gear S2 or VR. Never really thought I'd own another Samsung phone. otherwise. I had the S3 for a few months and got rid of it. Felt like a CHEAP kids toy... (Loved my S2 though). I've been an HTC fan for most of my Android years, and the metal case is really hard to beat. But, I am really digging this phone. It looks and feels great, runs very nice, and I really like the very toned-down touch wiz. The camera takes AMAZING shots IMO, very clear, the screen is incredible, and it's very fast. I can also run this thing for however long in my VR with pretty much zero heat problems. My HTC One M8 got SUPER hot after about 10 minutes in my Cardboard. I'll def be passing on HTC for a while. Overall, this is a great phone. And I'd buy/recommend it again.
Hell yea. Great phone. Wish I decided earlier for it to get VR though.
I would recce it yes, with qualifications.
Very happy with the upgrade from the GS5 for myself, not sure how much an upgrade it is from say a GS6 Active though for example.
Would buy it 100 times over! The closest to a perfect phone for my taste. I see no drawbacks for me.

Is there a way to prevent the phone from registering touches on its edges?
I've been using the S7 Edge for several months now, and I can say with full confidence that the edge is an annoying gimmick.
It's never been actually helpful. I only got a compliment on the design once, out of ~100 people who've seen the phone. I don't need the edge tools widget, or the edge screen notifications. Images scrolling through the edge when you swipe right/left look fun but ultimately meh.
However, nearly every single person who picks up my phone, e.g. to look at a picture or article I want to show, touches something that navigates away. They hand the phone back to me, saying "Um what did I do". Super frustrating. Also, if I have a chat open and grab the phone from the desk, I also sometimes touch the edge too much and trigger the on-screen keyboard or the app list.
why someone who hhates edge screen gets an EDGE phone.... this forum is a joke with all those threads xD

Are you saying you want to disable the right side edge bar? Or you want to disable the entirety of both edge screens and all the pixels that it takes up with the curve? The latter I don't think is possible, not that I've seen. I also agree with you that it's quite gimmicky.. I remember PIE control and it's more useful than edge..
I too had some issues with the edge screen. I bought s7e because of the bigger battery.. not because of the "edge"
In my case.. I put on a case and it's so much less annoying.. less accidental touch on the edge (still happens, but way less)

I also bought it because of the larger battery. The edge screen I knew from the beginning was not very useful. The WOW factor fades quickly.
True. And the edge is actually more of an annoyance when you watch video full screen. It distort the image..
You do know that you can turn them off under 'edge screen panels' right?
Odd, I don't have this issue. Still, you can disable all the Edge widget stuff etc but of course you cannot disable touch there completely
I hate the edge touch errors, too. Fortunately, someone has written an app to mask edge touch areas. It is here.

It's very simple, but since you can't conceive of any reason why, let me spell it out for you: I was an Edge early adopter, and when I bought it I didn't know how annoying it would be *for me*. Opinions on the forum that early on were split. Makes sense?

Disable the edge screen from registering touches. It can still display stuff (or not), but I don't want it to take touches.
I'll have to try that app, though I don't understand why it needs 2.7MB to do what it claims it does.
Thanks dandv! It was really annoying when watching movies or reading. The no more accidental touching app is the answer.
It does exactly what it says on the box. It might be a bit annoying on some apps that have buttons on the edges, but it can easily be disabled.
Perfect. Just made my s7 more valuable to me. Great solution. Thanks.

You can use official Edge Touch app from samsung (I have all the apps related GoodLock 2018 but this one can be used stand-alone), here you can customize the touch zone sensitivity and the related area on edge screen

For those who have already received their device, what is your favorite thing about it coming from your old device? Also, do you have any dislikes so far? For those who are still waiting, what are you most excited for?
I'll start, I am coming from the Note 5, and have had every Note in the series except for the first. I will be pairing this with my S7 Edge and rocking both at once. My favorite thing I am looking forward to is jumping into a pool with both in pocket, and watching all my iPhone friends having heart attacks. And of course just having all the new S-Pen features and getting my 256GB Micro SD card. Your turn!!!

Notification panel is a lot easier to use, no more long pressing...
Came from a Note 2. The new S Pen is nice. I woke up this morning and started entering stuff in to S Health. The screen is nice and bright and the resolution is awesome. The phone is incredibly fast. I enabled developer options and turned off all of the animation scales. I also changed the built in content scaling from large to small to take advantage of my young eyes. The iris scanner is a cool idea but as of right now I don't use it as an option for my lock screen. I can either use a pattern or the finger print from either of my thumbs. The edge feed is cool. I reordered it to show my step count first and then notifications. The HRM (Heart Rate Monitor) sensor on the back below the flash is a cool feature. It works in conjunction with S Health. You can also use it when the phone is flipped on to it's face to ignore a call and send a message by holding your finger over it for 2 seconds. So far the phone is pretty sweet.

Damn, coming from the Note 2? This is a huge upgrade for you then. I hope you really enjoy your time with it. I literally just got it in hand and I am loving it so far. Really nice and sleek.
Yeah a big upgrade for me. My Note 2 is still pretty solid considering its age.
Being able to write a memo without unlocking the device is pretty sweet. If I need to write something down right away, I just pull the spen out and go.
Of course I also like the water resistance.
I came from the Note 5 also. I've owned all the Notes, except the first one. What drew me to the Note 7 was the IP-68 dust & water resistance, the new s-pen and the 256GB SD offer. BTW Verizon sold me the new Gear VR for $49.99 with proof of purchase of Note 7.

My Note 2 is a solid phone. Still using it on WiFi. I did however burn the 6 crown towers from Clash Royale in to the screen though haha
I'm planning to buy S8 next week, so i wanted to hear some opinions, impressions, experiences from the people who already own this phone.
I tryied the phone at the store, it looks nice, it feels nice and it works great, but i would still like to hear what it's like on the daily basis, how's the battery life, does it lag after some time....etc
And one more thing. I've noticed some red tint at the top border, was it just me, or other people noticed the same thing?
Thanks.
I would honestly describe this phone as being the closest phone to perfect that i have ever owned! The only flaw is the finger print scanner! Battery life is very good! Display is excellent, Ergonomically its probably one of the best phones on the market! Likewise the camera is great! There is nothing bad about the device! If someone was to suggest they prefer another handset over the s8 however then iam sure it would purely be personal preference as oppose to choosing it because its better then the S8! Even the software on the S8 is massively improved over previous versions!! But....... just my opinion!!

Location mostly! Haven't even really bothered using it as a result! Tried it out initially and seemed accurate etc but the location just makes using it awkward and its just not as convenient for unlocking the device quickly as it was when we had it on the front! All samsung had to do was place it under the camera as oppose to right beside it and it would be alot better! The haptic feedback home button is pretty cool and actually kinda reminds me of using the finger print sensor on the s7 as you can essentially just press where the home button would of been and it unlocks the device! The downside being of course that anyone can do so as its not an actual security feature!!
I got my S8 approximately 3 weeks ago. I've just come from the iPhone 7 I find the S8 Amazing and it is very sleek. The software is pretty good and very customisable, the battery life is brilliant. The only problem is Samsung have this annoying thing called Bixby which is a siri want to be. It is not possible to deactivate or disable it. The only way to work around this you have to freeze it. Had some random bugs with the Bluetooth. Otherwise amazing phone.
I've had mine around 3 weeks. I have the Samsung clear case so I have no problem with the fingerprint sensor. I'll be putting a DecalGirl skin on so when I'm using the Rhino Bumper I'll still have a tactile nudge. Came from an International S6 (actually the same one you seem to have). Bit better battery life, no lag, amazing screen. I was surprised at how comfortable it is to hold and I'm happy to have an SD card again. I was hesitant to give up my S6 after it got Nougat as it was like a new phone. Can't imagine going back now.
One of the best devices this year... It's a Star on XDA!
It's an amazing phone. Best one I've ever had. I've had it since 4/18. Finger print location doesn't bother me at all. You'll love it!
Perfect. I did configured the fingerprint sensor but I dont use it much. I prefer the iris scanner, its fast. The rest you read it already. Screen, features, hardware, design, battery, you wont regret it

I have the international variant so experience may vary. I love it. Not the biggest fan of the fingerprint scanner position but after a couple days, it became natural. It's very smooth. Smoother than the S7 I'd have to say.
Battery life is amazing. Can easily get over a day of life, even 2 days sometimes. I haven't experienced any lag over time.
The red tint you noticed was probably burn in. That's the only problem I understand with the phone since it's an OLED display. I keep mine in immersive mode and use gestures for the navbar instead (I prefer it actually).
There was an issue with some displays at launch having a red tint which was resolved through software update.
Here my review. It has some profanity so if u don't like hearing cursing don't watch. But it's pretty popular on YouTube at 29k views
You will get used to fingerscanner location and it will not bother. Also useless bixby button can be remapped without root, so no prob here too.
Great phone!
Fps works fine and is ok to reach on my s8 but not for me on the + model.
Face recognition and iris scanner works fine.
The new Samsung Experience Ui is slick and fast.
I'm in the uk so have the exynos version.
The display just pops.
For me the dimensions of the s8 hit my sweet spot and it's really comfortable to hold.
The s8+ version for me was just too big and to me felt top heavy.
It's as slippery as any other glass form factor phone.
I'm using....
Samsung Screen Protector- the film type.
Black Dragon dbrand back skin.
RhinoShield Bumper.

Great video man :good:
Only issue with my S8: Display light shines through right under the earpiece. Someone else noticed that?
Apart from that the phone is close to perfect for me.
Do not forget THE SCREEN SCRATCHES VERY EASY.
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I get a consistent 5 hours of screen on time every day. And as the other guy noted this screen does scratch easily. I had a buddy that scratched his pretty bad and had no idea how he did it. Haven't scratched mine yet after a couple weeks with no screen protector though. I came from a 6S+ and a note 5 before that and I'm pretty happy with this phone after flashing my unlocked Verizon version to an unbranded Canadian firmware.
uk neverlocked has problems "emergency call only"
I recommend to you that you buy the french version
http://www.expansys.fr/samsung-galaxy-s8-64gb-midnight-black-origin-eu-301130/
I had a s7 edge which is dead last week when trying to put it in water :'(. So I bought s8. So thats what I find:
1/ I really didn't like the unlock features.. the fingerprint sensor is in the back so it is just useless (ps you can save 4 fingers but I dont know how my 4 fingers can access to the fingerprint). The iris scanner cannot be used if the phone is a little bit far (in the car for exemple when you are driving I used to unlock my s7 directly with finger). To be able to unlock your s8 when its far you must use face recognition it is quick but it is useless at night because it uses camera. (Ps1: you cannot see your lockscreen before/without unlocking. Ps2: you cannot use iris and facerecognition at the same time so you must choose night compatible or far compatible).
2/ the screen ration is just so bad.. videos/apps/games are not adapted with display ratio so the phone will show two black bars at the top and at the buttom of the screen + the nav bar is, in the most cases, present in the screen and dont disappear automatically so there is no sense of "infinity screen" and I cant feel it.
3/ the battery takes more time with my s7 edge then my new s8.
So I really felt that s7 edge was better (for me) but samsung should not tell people that phones are water resistant because its not always true. (Sorry for bad english).
