Hi everyone,
is it just me, or is the backlight of the capacitive "back" and "recent" buttons dimmer since the OOS 2.2.1 update? It feels like they were brighter before, but I can't say for sure. But I find them to be rather dim now even in low light, whereas I found them just bright enough before, even in well-lit rooms.
Cheers!

In Direct sun light my phone is really black.
Impossible to use it, I've to turn on the fast bright. The screen light auto calibrate seems not to function as well. Is there a way to Set the auto-light calibration values?
No, this is a characteristic of AMOLED screens, sadly.
What sun? There was no sun here since I got it
Use Anti-glare screen protector from Powersupport. They dont make the one for Nexus, but its so good that i fitted iPod Touch protector on my N1
It works when you turn brightness up, right? I can see mine just fine in the sun with full brightness.
I don't like auto-brightness. It shouldn't work well in the sun for any phone, considering it's trained to become brighter in low light situations and thus, dimmer in strong light situations.

Actually you got that the wrong way round.
In dimmer conditions the screen is also dimmer as less light is needed to see the screen.
In brighter conditions the backlight should be brighter to counteract the bright light.

Ha, thanks. It just seemed to have been getting brighter in low light situations for me so I turned it off.
I still think the screen is perfectly readable in the sunlight using the widget for full brightness. I'm surprised to hear so many complaints.
the complaint is about auto-brightness.
If I've it on and look at the phone in a sunny day it's very hard to find the widget to turn on the fast bright.
There's a way to set the values of auto-brightness? I mean to set bright at max when there's a lot of light?
my screen looks fine in the sun. I set my brightness to like 65%
If you move the widget to your homescreen it shouldn't be too hard to find in the sun.
It's the same Wobblebonk, sometimes when you light up you phone is not the home screen that appears you. In a sunny day the nexus screen appear totally black

try taking off your sun glasses :>
The home button returns you to the home screen... hence you can get back to the home screen regardless of what you can see.
the light sensor on my N1 is ****ed. maybe thats another issue......
try a soft reboot it helped with mine power +volume down +trackball resets without data wipe
Hey guys,
I have noticed that the auto dim feature doesn't work all that well on my Droid X. When comparing it to the iPhone 4 my friend has in the same light The Droid X seems way brighter than the iPhone. I'm not saying this is a huge issue but considering the size of the screen maybe a tweak to this algorithm could help us squeeze some more juice out of the battery. For now however I have turned the auto brightness off and set the backlight to the lowest setting. I am happy about the how the screen looks, I can read it in almost all lighting except for direct sunlight.
Is there a way to fix this in the future? Or is there a bug reporting thing for Motorola where we can leave a complain about this...or if this isn't a complain how are you guys feeling about the auto dimming backlight?
Thanks
I have noticed the backlight is extremely bright. I have no battery complaints though, so I like it.
The one situation I don't like it is when I'm laying in bed texting, and the light is just about blinding... even on lowest. ;P
Is it just my device, or are the capacitive buttons on the Nexus S very very faint when lit?
They are near impossible to see in sunlight and still hard to see even in normal lighting. Any insight folks can give would be great. Is this just a thing with Samsung/Galaxy S devices?

Coming from a Vibrant where the buttons are nearly blinding (especially at night) I'm actually glad they are so dim on the Nexus S.
To answer your question more directly, yes, the button lighting is very dim.

Thanks, mate. This is my first Samsung device.
Thank you unremarked! I'm glad there is a thread about this. I feel they are very dim as well. :-/ Maybe we have a hardware issue? My Epic's buttons were extra, uhh Vibrant

i agree 100% with you, the buttons dont need to be lit when you're in direct sunlight and they dont need to be as bright as they are on the Vibrant when you're in low light. I think the nexus buttons are just right.

jblade1000 are your buttons dim as well? There is a picture in this thread with them looking extra bright...

Probably like the Captivate, buttons on my Captivate are really feint. My friend's Fascinate has really bright buttons.
I like it, I think that they are not so much more dim as shaded or tinted a greyish color. Notice how the buttons seemingly vanish, it gives the phone a murdered out look. I like it alot, I noticed it in the video and it really looks good with the new screen off animation.
Mine are pretty dim as well.
I like it too Its very professional and sick !!!
I guess to each his own. I believe I like the brightness on my Vibrant better than the dimmer effect on the Nexus S.
Hello,
I just bought a samsung note 10.1, and for now I just put on a makeshift screen protector which is covering both the camera and the light sensor. This is just until I can buy on to fit it. Anyway my question is, it seems like the auto brightness isn't working or working well. I have it on and the screen seems very dark, and I don't have the power settings on either. Would the screen protector covering the light sensor cause this?? or is there some other kind of issue?
Thanks all.
I can't recall how the auto brightness worked before I installed a screen protector so I can't comment on its direct impact but I wouldn't think it should matter. I do find th auto brightness a bit too dark in almost all situations and I think that is a Note 10.1 issue in general.
I just did some test in varying light conditions and the sensor was quick to respond and went quite bright when I was in a very bright room. I just think it over compensates in dark situations.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 10.1
Thanks for the reply. I am sure it's ok, but it's been awhile since I had a android tab, so I wasn't sure.

One more question. Do you slide the slider for brightness all the way to the right then click on auto? I heard some say you put the slider all the way to the right, then click on the auto brightness, and that it wont clock lower then the max or something?
Dear fellas,
I have a rooted Note 3 with all the good theming, modding apps, but I couldn't find any, which can dim out the Program/Back buttons. I have a white Note, and the bright buttons don't look good in the dark.
Any tipps?
Thanks in advance.
Don't think it's possible to dim them. Only thing you can do is turn them off completely.

I'm afraid you are right, and there is no possibility to do it. A few years ago, I had an SGS2 and I could do that, but now I can't find any solution.
Because the phone is white, and the leds are bright the bottom of my phone is glowing, even the screen's edge too.
I know what you mean! I have the white one too
