Solve notification issue - Mate 8 General

A very simple way to solve this problem is by giving priority to the notification that does not receive notification
1 go to setting
2 go to application
3 touch the name of that app to open its setting
4 go to notification
5 turn on the priority
That is all

Do you really think nobody else has already tested this?

i solved my notification issue by his method plus i have locked the concerned apps in background and now i have not lost any notification

Unfortunately this method works only in some cases, and many people can't solve the notification problem in any known way.
In this forum there are already many threads discussing about this problem, it's useless to open new threads on the same subject every time...

There is one method to solve it though it is not permanent as you have to do it every reboot. But the fix is to disable Android's own Doze.
Enable developer options and USB debugging. Then type this adb command:
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
That will fix your push notifications until next reboot where you have to do it again. This way we can still use Huawei's own "Doze" function.

Wi-Fi and data always active in battery settings did the work for me on Simple Google Rom
Gmail native app was the problem before that. It might eat more battery, but I still have about 8 hours sot a day, with Bluetooth on 8 hours too and 2 hours talk time. ?

Whatsapp notification woes driving me crazy!

So after being a long time apple user and long time iTunes hater ... I managed to sell my iphone 4 and bought a samsung galaxy S4, did the same for my other half...
Keep in mind, this is a brand new, no-root, default phone.
The issue basically is notifications, for whatsapp ( at the moment since I haven't set up anything else that requires push, besides gmail). The issue is once I turned the screen off, either manually or by itself. whatsapp notifications randomly stop arriving until I turned on the screen, completely close the app and open it again, the same goes for 2 other devices ( 3 in total), this happens with wifi or mobile data
Device #1. new s4,
Device #2 new s4
Device #3 Samsung galaxy young running 4.1.2 JB.
Now, device #3 belongs to a friend of mine who told of these issues a couple of months ago, however I did pay attention as I just figured it was network connection or wifi or whatever be it.
I've googled the hell out of this and it is apparently an android issue:
it's not telco related in my case, because i had NO ISSUES on my iphone 4 nor my best half's 4s.
Anyway, hopefully someone here has been through something similar and been able to fix it? I've searched the forums and there's apparently a widespread issue, but not fix as of 4.2.2?
New to the forum, I originally posted this here

Hi,
I just recently switched to a samsung galaxy s4 ( two actually, one for me,
one for GF), before that we used iphone 4 and 4s, never had an issue with
whatsapp notifications until I switched this passed friday. The issue is
once the phone goes into sleep mode, be it mobile data or wifi, I have to
force close the app and open again to receive notifications that I got
hours ago if I don't continously check.
I've googled the hell out of it and found your FAQ, as well as plenty other
sites with the same issue except no solution.
From your FAQ:
1. tried re-installing directly from direct download link (
http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk) and not from play
store
2. tried rebooting.
3. notifications are set properly
4. google+ is disabled ( hangouts) ( tried enabling it, same result)
5. Wifi is set to always on.
Note this is on stock, brand new phones and apparently it's a wide spread
issue:

Sadly, both
Do you lock the screen while whatsapp is open? Or do you choose whatsapp and then lock the screen?
If whatsapp is still running and on the screen, and you lock the screen, it's like the app just stops checking.. I've had this with multiple phones and its a whatsapp problem, not the phone.

No, the opposite. For me, whatsapp only worked and checked for msgs if i closed the app and then locked the screen. I would usually come back to the homescreen or something. But if i locked over whatsapp, it would stop checking or take a really long time.
But since you say you've done both, I'm kinda stumped.

Currently trying to installing .763, updated from .762, but whatsapp servers are probably getting busted as can't even verify my number.
Bro install Whatsapp+.
Google and download the apk, install and see if it helps.
If not, the only way is to root the S4 and install push notification fixer from play store. It modifies andriod to check for msges every 5mins. That will solve your problem for sure.

Hey mate,
I've probably tried all apps or methods by insanity to try getting this problem fixed. Unfortunately, nothing positive turned out.
Now I'm trying to off my screen when whatsapp is open, however, I still think it's unbelievably stupid to do so even if it works to get push notification. How can I go back to whatsapp whenever i wanna put the phone back in my jeans pocket? It then seems whatsapp would become the new homescreen?!?!?
Anyone got a real solution to this???
Also having this problem. Screen off, screen on - sometimes whatsapp just doesn't want to receive/send messages. Other times it's working properly.
Have you guys disabled Samsung Push? Have you disabled any system apps at all? Also, do you have the problem even when your phone has a good signal?
I'm also trying to find out the reason for this problem.

I do disable some system app like weather, finance and stuff like those. To me, what I can confirm is the independence of problem from the signal strength since I've been using the same service provider before upgrading to Jelly Bean and there used to be problem free with the push notification.
This is the result I got last night:
- open whatsapp -> close whatsapp -> homescreen -> screen off = no push
- open whatsapp -> close whatsapp -> free ram -> screen off = no push
- open whatsapp -> screen off = push
Conclusion:
- it is not related to free ram
- it is the problem that the andriod system turn off the app upon screen off (or sleep)
Plus.
I tried installing Push Notification Fixer to introduce "heartbeat" to maintain the connectivity, unfortunately, it DOES NOT work in my case.
Let's keep in view the development. At least we are not alone and hope either Whatsapp or Google can fix this.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357417
It's a thread which guides you how to disable some allegedly useless google services in order to save battery life when idle. It works, but I think it might have been what's caused my whatsapp to go crazy. I even asked in the thread and some others have the same problem.
But if most other people in this thread haven't disabled said google services, that doesn't make any sense.
Mate. Trust me i know this issue exist on all andriod. i googled the hell out of it because i quarrelled with my partner a few times due to delay in replies. its just the way the kernel is written for stock andriod. you can try everything but it wont work. your only solution is to root and install push notification fixer from play store.

This isn't an issue with android it's an issue with whatsapp. Every android phone I've ever owned has had this issue with whatsapp. Whatsapp need to update their app so it still notifies if it was the last app open whilst the screen locks.
I just press home after I reply and let it lock its second nature to me. The bug is in whatsapp where if it is the last displayed whilst screen lock notifications don't work. You could try changing the conversation tone that might help.

That's wrong... It was perfectly fine, instantly receiving whatsapp messages in my phone no matter what. Something I've changed caused it to stop working.
My problem isn't only the notifications, it's the actual whatsapp messages aswell. Something killed the Whatsapp wakelocks, now my whatsapp isn't causing any wakelocks and when the phone is idle it does not check for messages.

Notification when I press Power Button

Hello ...
I have the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) with Android 6.0.1 from Saturday (NOT rooted ... yet). After a lot of hours searching and setup I have this "problem":
When I press the PowerButton for 2-3 seconds to show the options: Reboot/ShutDown/SafeMode it sounds the Messages notification !! How can I disable this?
Thanks in advance.
I still cannot disable it (without reset the phone)
I wonder if this notification is by default ....???
Thanks

Dunno if you can remove it without root, but you can do it with root. You find system sounds at /system/media/audio/ui. There you should find the sound file regarding power menu, then delete it and reboot and that's it.
@zavag
I try to turn it on to reproduce your problem but In my case, I can not even find out how I can turn it on.
Can you tell me...
How you activated it?
On which build are you?
@Henkate
I think it would be rather embarrassing for Samsung if you can not even personalize a notification tone without major changes to the system.
By the way, even if I do not actually think of TouchWiz. For me it's just ugly and overbloat!
I really don't know how it activated. The phone is new and ... you know ... I was searching a lot of settings in order to setup as I like. I googled it ... I found some infos but it didn't work.
On the other hand I don't want to reset (and most I don't want to root it from now) because I spent a lot of hours to set it up.

Know what you mean! I think if there is really no other way you are at minimum able to backup your settings in almost any app.
Maybe you like to inform about adb based backup solutions like declared here:
https://www.droidwiki.de/wiki/Backup/Ohne_Root
I also found a tool called Ultimate Backup on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844032
If you don't have access to a Linux or at least Windoof computer you can maybe search for how to use adb through androids buit in Linux command shell. Don't know if there is a workaround.
But in my opinion it is already poor from Samsung if one must operate such an effort in order to turn off a notification!

but you wont get the vibration alerts either
They actually removed that exact feature from Nougat. You can silent the entire notification, but cannot turn off the floating notifications.
I was looking for solution on this either, stupid sumsung removed one of the best nougat control over notifications that you could define levels of notifications control and their priorities even of the list (The power controls notifications)... Idiots.
Now or you only have 2 options:
NO PEEK+NO VIBRATION/SOUND
PEEK + VIBRATIONS
instead of the great different levels of notifications control. Samsung always does some **** to piss off users.... because they decreasing the control that the user have over the phone instead of increasing.

F! That's true... sorry... I was on DND mode so I didn't realize that.
Hope we find some way...
Unless there is maybe a port from somewhere or an xposed alternative but still might not be possible since it can be far too complex as it mixes the notifications and settings, so I doubt we will ever get this properly working...

I just realized it's working.
However I was referring not only this peek preview but also on the notification bar... when you have a message and you slide down the bar and you have the message there.
Crap samsung has some brain freeze once in a while for eliminating this ..
What is this adb everyone is talking about? I'm having this same complaint with the peeking and use to have it turned off on most apps. Just got android 7 this morning so still looking around, but sounds like dropping this code in is an easy fix.... But where do I drop it? Is this an app for the phone or is it on my pc? Can someone please describe how to do this from the beginning, not just "use adb, put in this code. Done." maybe for some of us less intelligent but equally annoyed with peeking people so we can remove it as well. Thanks!
I can also confirm that this worked. No more heads up popup when I get messages. Tested in Google Hangout and Whatapps.

ADB is a software you need to install on your PC computer (some where there is a 5 sec installation for it). Then you need to set your phone to USB debug mode and plug it into your PC with the USB cable. Your PC will detect your device.
Go to Start on your PC and in the search area type "cmd" to bring up the black box terminal window. Then just follow the two command lines listed to first detect your phone, then run the flag to turn off the popup. Reboot. Then it will work.
Test and tried on a Sprint Samsung S7.
It will remove the popup window but preserve sound.

How to disable sleep/battery optimisation?

We have bike computers which connect to an app on our phone. The app is called Wahoo Elemnt.
I'm having an issue with my wife's bike computer and OP 6t.
She got a new phone, the Oneplus 6T, and after 30 minutes, the phone disconnects from the bike computer, so she can't see incoming calls/messages. The moment she wakes up the phone, it connects instantaneously.
Have checked all the settings, and made sure that there is no 'battery optimisation' set for the Elemnt app. Have even disabled the advanced settings.
On my Note 8, and her previous Oneplus 3, the app would remain connected even thru a 5 hour ride, and the phones don't need to be 'woken up'.
Any other suggestions?
Will this work?

Yes it's a known issue with doze being too aggressive. Most of the issues are solved when you turn off advanced optimization and sleep standby, if the issue persists please take logs and submit as feedback, thanks.

Doze can be aggressive but there is an option to exclude Doze per app under - Apps/Special Access/Battery Optimisation.
Unfortunately Oneplus has disable this option on our devices and have replace it with a one switch called Advanced optimisation.
I am trying to find a way to get this Pie Stock feature back. Any clues?

You have to do that after every restart?

I'll do it before every ride. Not a big deal. Or leave it pinned. But, yes, after a restart it will be required.

The problem for me is that the TMobile version doesn't allow you to turn off advanced optimization and sleep standby, those settings don't even exist, unless they are in a completely different spot than the unlocked version. And I haven't found it

It's a knowed issue for some users.
Be sure that for each apps with notifications wanted (social apps, mail apps with wakelock/sync) you put the apps with the mode "Not restricted" for be sure app in background is not shutdown by system.
Long press on a apps icon > "!" symbol (App Info) > Battery > Unrestricted (instead Optimized)
Be sure also to do not have magisk module (like GMS Doze) or "optimize" apps (like cleaner apps) refresh/wipe cache in background

It is what happens when people complain about battery life without telling about 200+ apps running, then Google have to have settings you cannot change so people dont complain about an issue that never existed.

So true, it's for this reason i talking about optimized app and other doze apps like greenify or GMS Doze.
If a person have always the same problem from 3 years on all his Android devices, for sure problem come from user... not of all his devices.

On the last NOS 1.1.6 first time you launch app you have a question "authorized notifications" YES/BLOCK"
Be sure in App Infos to also check Notifications settings.
After that if you factory reset, test during 1 day if the problem is back just with your minimal apps installed, always with unrestricted for social/sync apps.
i have 35 apps installed, not a single crappy optimizer in the background so i dont think that i overload my phone.
i dont think that it is my fault that the notifications dont arrive on time, i think that googles power plan and others like samsungs and oneplus power plans are sh*t!

Did you by any chance restore your apps with data via Swift/Titanium backup? It is the common culprit for late arrival of push messages (Gmail, Whatsapp,..) - fix is quite simple https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s-after-titanium-backup-data-restore.4001959/.
Btw. Gmail push messages have lower priority, so they show up only when the phone is not deep sleeping, or during regular scheduled checks when deep sleeping. Chats like Whatsapp are using priority channel, so they are delivered instantly. Priority of push notifications is set by developers, so there is nothing you can do to raise their urgency.

"If a person have always the same problem from 3 years on all his Android devices, for sure problem come from user... not of all his devices."
Google introduced new settings you cannot edit without ether root or a custom rom, that means ALL versions from android 10 to Android 13 from Vendors have the same problem with battery savings on apps, you cannot fix this without root or installing a custom OS.
If you did not know this then you are new to android.
