Still can't believe what happened to my Z5!
I accidentally dropped my phone a minute ago from the 4th floor and it felt straight to the concrete. I thought my phone would have been dead and totally destroyed due to this massive drop.
When i picked it up the screen was entirely cracked with a big impact in the bottom left corner but surprisly it just smashed my 0.3mm tampered glass screen protection!
It bend as well the phone in the middle by the power button without damaging the back and front panel!
And I only had a slim rubber case to protect it!
I guess i've been very lucky but still i can say this phone is really solid and well made.
I linked some photos of my tempered glass protection and case. (I can't take pics from the phone but i can see that the metal on the edge by the power button is still a little twisted so i guess my phone isn't watterproof any more..)

For the screen protection:

And the case:

Haha - that TPU case is great !
7 € and totally worth it
I got a similar combination but from spigen and at a much higher price
Hm, didn't know that the glas protector costs almost only a third in France and UK compared to German Amazon
@PELLET Nolwenn
but wheres the picture of the phone ?
i want to throw mine too ! err drop, umm , err smash actually... xD
I have the same bumper and screen protector.

Can't take any because i've no other camera..
But onestly my phone was properly bent in the middle! Very scary!
I've seen a video few weeks ago from someone doing the bend test on it and it did finished exactly as mine and without any big damage. Just the metal frame which doesn't fit perfectly where the power button is.
Here is the video (it's a Z5 premium actually but it doesn't really change compare to mine^^)
https://youtu.be/gVPa8sNY1Xw
Quite impressed by the screen and the back panel strength, they bend but don't break.
But the metal frame seems very fragile don't you think?

What's the GAP problem?
How does it explain the gap problem?
Not for me, for people that don't get it, I know, obviously...
Fantastic mate, was just about to do this myself. Could you post a brief guide? How easy is it to get to the screen?

Or a Torx driver to just put it back together.
so if i'm interpreting the picture right, the gap which quite alot of us are seeing, is irrelevant really as any dust ingress can't actually get onto the screen due to the seal which the foam forms on the outer case...?
I guess that the screen gap is almost inevitable due to the cut in the seal

no mate the gap in the screen is further down between the actual touch screen and the outer casing not where you have circled. The gap is to the left where the rubber seal bit is and the part of the ribbon cable you can see is where it actually connects to the touch screen.
Madness but crazy-awsome!
Hi, just got mine today Had a brief luck n there seems to be security stickers n the like all over this guy!
Normally I'd join straight in but gona give this one a miss for a while I think

I'm pretty sure that IS what he circled. If you look at the screen itself, you can see the padding that would be at the top, just below the rubber seal area.

No its around the edge of the touch screen so its where the touch screen sits in the frame you can't even see any of that foam when the phone is assembled. You can see the rubber seal on the outer casing on that 3rd picture just compare it to what you can see on your phone.

If that were the case, and the area circled was not the part where the rubber seal was, then the rubber seal would be approximately 3/4" below the top of the phone, rather than 3/8" of an inch (approximation). You can see where the speaker is on the white plastic case, and by looking at the outside of the phone, the rubber seal is literally JUST below that. For the rubber seal to be where the clear screen is wouldn't work proportionately.
Similarities to Blackstone like cam etc.
But disassembling seems to be much easier than Blackstone.
Hope we'll get much more spare parts compared to Blackstone.

It has only recently started peeling but have had it since November.
The cover can be replaced but it is not that cheap from what I can find.
Same here, mine is half peeled now.. like paint flakes.. =/

No peeling on my 6mo old T9193. No pouch or any cover, either.
No problems with my battery cover. I did order a new one though, because I want to try to drill a small hole and slot in it to be able to soft reset my HD2 when necessary and take out the SD card without having to remove the battery cover

holy crap! that is hideous! good thing is that after it all wears down, you still have a brushed metal surface underneath.... now unless that begins to shed after the next few months....
here's mine. pictured with phone itself under terrible light.. but you can see..
damn how can i get one of these in Slovenia we don't have our ebay and shipment from US or UK costs more than actual price of cover :S
i'm even thinking of doing the chrome look on it but with real chrome, i know some people who can do that. But i'm not shure about aluminium..
any suggestions?

These are quite expensive. I'm sure you can find much cheaper alternatives on eBay. Better yet, take it down to a car garage that does repainting. I'm sure they'll be willing to give you a show quality finish.
While I am installing IPG to my phone, side of my battery is peeling off Because I think the guard did not stick very well and I tear wear too many times.
You could always try and have a silver finish to your cover like ive done

A few notes:
Purchased from this link: TPU Case
Would I recommend this case? Hell Yes.
Would I recommend this eBay seller? Probably. Postage was pretty slow, but I had no problems at all. (I ordered on the 26th of May today is the 14th of June)
Also included with the screen protector is some kind of scratch repair stuff. I don't know how to use it though, luckily my screen is scratch free.
I got the first generation of the sikai cases. The fat, ugly, matte ones. Still they fit perfectly, and can really absorb shocks. The included screen protector was of above average quality.
They are a bit pricey though, I got an amazing TPU case for my Desire Z for 5$ or something wichi is actually 2 cases due to the weird design of the device. Anyway, I dont see any other option right now, so I recomment the sikai cases too.
I bought a black Sikai case off of Taobao. But it is different from yours. Mine covers more of the front on the phone. Awesome case, it will protect the screen should you drop it face down. Screen protector, not so awesome. Caused the screen to have a grainy image by distorting the pixels. Went and paid 40 RMB for a heavy duty screen protector custom cut for the screen and camera lens. What is the blue film thing that came with it?
Hey Poulsen8r
Can you give any feedback on a couple of things...
I have a Nillkin case i bought off e-bay. It fits nice but I found that when sticking the USB in the case got in the way and stopped it from going in all the way.
Same with the headphone jack.
The holes were too small on mine...I noticed your USB hole was much bigger and wondered how you are finding plugging in.
Cheers
Ordered one and it arrived yesterday...it took almost 30 days.
The case is excellent especially around the the USB port. The headphone space is still a little narrow for some of my headphone jacks but better than before.
It feels sticky to the grip which is nice as the phone is less likely to slip out of my hand.
I got the blacj shiny one and it looks great. The fit, especially around the front face lips perfectly.
The sent me the wrong LCD screen protectors but that's OK. I didn,t get any of the extras like cute badges or anything like that.
I recommend this brand
i have one and is near perfection
yeah i have one too, and its great!
Poulsen8r, what is color of the cover you have bought: Light Blue or Dark Blue? I'm guessing its Dark Blue, am I correct?
that's a light blue case
Are you sure? It seems more darker than the light blue.
Sent from my u8800 using xda premium
yes, i'm sure. i have the same one.
Thanks! Now buying it!
it's a great case though the screen protector that comes with it sucks
Thanks for the review! It made me buy the sikai case
Oh I purposely scratch(small one) my screen with a screw driver(d*** it). Just to test how tough the glass. Left a very very small scratch(Well I did it on really small are of phone which is not so visible). A little extra force than normal is required. The screen is scratchable if you intentionally do it.
I think put the phone together with car key in your pocket might scratch your phone. Put your phone face down on table and move it gently(when you pick up your phone, there is always little slide) shouldn't be leaving any scratch.
This serve as information for those who really want to know how tough the glass is.
P/s expect the glass to be tougher!
Haha. Thanks for such info. Much appreciated.

Not unless there is a small grain of sand on your table, it will scratch the screen all right.
But....shouldn't the screen use a "gorilla glass"??? Wtf?
Samsung packed a 600€ phone with scrap materials? I feel cheated..
Just because the screen is scratch resistant doesn't mean it's scratch proof. Gorilla glass adds some extra protection but everything can be overcome given you use enough force.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
"Gorilla" glass or not, it still glass. And there are a lot of materials harder than glass. If material is harder than glass, it will scratch it, just less for Gorilla glass.
The hardest transparent material available is, well, diamond. This won't be scratchable by anything. Not aware of any phones using diamond faceplates yet though
The next hardest is synthetic sapphire. This will be scratched only by diamond, sapphire and some rare alloys. There are some watches and phones (Vertu I believe) that use sapphire faceplates. But if you look at the price tags, you'll realize the price you'll have to pay for
Diamond faceplate??!!! That might be the end of screen protector...lol

Are you guys all too cheap to buy screen protectors? They are less than ten bucks and i can't feel the difference. Not flaming, just poking fun. I treated my phone like it was, well, made of glass until my screen protector came in.

You do know there's a plastic covering ontop of your button right?
i suppose that, but i can´t remove the plastic, but is normal that scratches?
I've seen in some stores some gel or something that you can spread on scratches and they will disappear (I'm not 100% sure as I haven't never bought any)

As krazykat said, the phone ships from the factory with a thin rectangular plastic film that is stuck on top of the home button. This film is simply one of the many protective films/coverings that are on a brand new phone, to protect it during shipping and unboxing. This film is removable - it's conceivable the scratch you're seeing is on that plastic film instead of the button itself. The film is hard to see, but if you look carefully with a bright light shining on it, you will see it. You can remove it by scraping with the edge of a credit card.
Relax your phone is going to get some scratches. It's just a fact of life. I've had mine in a gel case and screen protector since day one, unfortunately that didn't protect the camera lens (only exposed area besides home button) from a small scratch .
Also if the smal piece of plastic is still on eventually it'll lift up on its own and you'll be able to take it off.
Thank you, DreadPirateDan i think you are right , so if i remove the plastic from the home button the home bottom can get some scratches? the home button is made of the same material as the screen, gorilla glass? someone has the home bottom with scratches with out the plastic?
Because my home bottom look really bad, you can feel the scratches with your nails.
I get pretty excited with all the hype of gorilla glass being scratch proof but let me tell you it certainly is not scratch proof. Slighty more resistant at best says I.
My last phone would fall face first onto pebbles and come out un scratched, yet being inside my pocket with lethal for the screen. Who would have thought soft cotton would be gorilla glass' Achillies heel? lol.
So best advice from me is to just leave the plastic there as long as it's willing to stay/as long as you can tolerate it's ugliness. Then when you've had enough you'll peel back to a crisp fresh menu button
The screen is resistant to falls but not scratches. Therefore, it is recommended to put a protective plastic on the screen ASAP! As always the enemy of all screens is the dust, keys and any sharp object.
About, the HOME button, it is normal to be scratch fast because it's plastic, what I did was cut a plastic/tranparent sticker covering inside the edges of the home button and no scratches inside of it!
That's why ya go with white versions. Surface scratches and finger prints don't show nearly as bad.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
If it bugs you, just buy the button on ebay.
I bought one for like 5 bucks after shipping and have no use for it LOL
I was wondering if the button had a really dark chrome or if it was just my phone (I thought the chrome was supposed to be like a polished bright chrome like in pics) and after receiving this button and seeing my friend's S2, my phone is normal lol
