moving to Moto X Style? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I own HTC M9 but now i would love to upgrade to bigger screen so what do you think?
Thanks.

I came from a Nexus 6 and been using the MXP for awhile. Decided to downgrade from size so I chose this phone due to it being a smaller clone with SD card and stereo speakers. The phone it's self is nice but the battery really bugs me. My N6 would last all day with light use and the MXP can only last half a day. I've have not owned a HTC phone since the HD2 days. So I would not know if it would be a good jump.

How many of us will sold their G3 to buy Nexus 6?

I don't think I'll be the one. I'm sick and tired of locked bootloader and now Nexus 6 is anounced with same paramers as G3 but with 3 GB Ram. Deffinitely I miss my old Galaxy Nexus with thousand of custom roms..
The Nexus 6 will have the S805 with 3GB RAM, unlocked boot loader with loads of custom Roms and kernels and a 2k screen. If it has a MicroSD slot also then its a definite winner over the G3.
If it's like any other nexus, i highly doubt they're gonna add a micro sd slot, since they never did put any on every other nexuses (nexusi ? Whatever). And personally, i think a 5.9inch display is way too big. The G3 fits perfectly in my hands.
Has Nexus 6 been announced already?
A lot of "ifs" on the Nexus 6 still. Battery life, storage, materials, and hand fit. And cost of course.
The big one for me is battery life. If the rumored 3200mah is true, with that huge screen it's probably going to push it to lower than the G3, which is already marginal. If it has AMOLED rather than LCD it might be a bit better, but even then it's pushing it.
Nexus 6 announced? Lol where

Don't think I'll sell my G3 but it's very likely that I'll buy the new Nexus phone to replace it. In regards to battery life, I'm on this G3 forum almost everyday hearing people talk about how horrible the battery is on this phone but I get far better usage than any other Android device I've owned (and I've gone through a few of em). Maybe it's the fact that I have the Rogers D852 that no one else seems to own but I take my phone off the charger at 7am each morning and I can get to 7am the next day with 15-20% battery remaining under my normal use with Bluetooth & WiFi on and Power Saving mode disabled. Go figure
Im so irritated with the lack of custom roms/dev support im almost about to let my G3 go as well. This phone the most powerful device ive ever owned across all specs and i cant do **** with it but root lol. Im kind of getting tired of android too. I may do the unthinkable and sell my G3, and then buy a blackberry passport just because its different.
no sd slot? no thanks.
i had 5 nexus devices and at some point i got sick of always deleting old music to make storage for new mp3s. when i`m on the walk i want to listen what i want and not what there was space for.
this is the biggest downside for nexus devices and was the reason why i bought the g3.
If the Nexus 6 (Nexus X?) is available on Verizon - I know, big and unlikely if - I can almost guarantee I'll be selling my 3 week old G3. I like this phone, but I hate OEM skins and the lack of an unlocked bootloader means I'm stuck with LG's ****ty software. I only have this phone because my G2 died within the one year manufacturer warranty and Best Buy didn't have any in stock. I can't wait to not own this phone anymore.

I can't pocket a 6" screen phone. Nice sounding specs though.
I'll sell in a heart beat for aosp
LG has destroyed hope in my experience owning this phone lol
No sd slot no thanks..... and rumored 5.9 inch screen is way too big
I think they might put an SD slot on it. Remember it is Motorolla that is making it and it is going to be more expensive than the N5. But it is a deal breaker, if it does have an SD slot then its a must buy, if not forget it.
Doesn't look like a will be getting one if these rumours are anything to by. The sheer size of it is a put off.

The Nexus 6 will have to be a LOT better made than the last few in order to make me change. The 4 had a rubbish screen and a terrible camera, the 5 has appalling quality control, a dull, uninteresting design and the worst screen ive seen in years.
I have no issues with a near 6" screen.
At my age my eyes need all the help they can get.
What worries me is the knocked up photo of n6 next to a g3.
And it's huge. So much bigger than the g3 it's not funny.

I know right. I can barely pocket my G3 without having a giant square outline. Anything after 5.5 is just too large of a screen.
Nexus 6 would be the same size like ip6+ just with a 5.9 vs 5.5 inch screen. If the battery will be better than G3, for sure I'll buy it. Indeed battery is a major factor for me. And I am not disappointed by G3 battery but I want a longer screen-on time.
If the 6" screen rumor is accurate, it's too big for me. Also, it won't have SD card support, nor a removable battery. As big as it is, the latter probably isn't an issue, but storage is.

Upgrade from HTC?

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Nexus from my HTC M8 but looking at the hardware spec the Nexus isn't massively different (if at all) from the M9 which I would've expected with a 6 month+ time gap!
I know hardware isn't everything and I haven't had a nexus phone before so maybe it is a speedier phone than HTC. The main features I like about my M8 is double tap to wake and the build quality, so I wouldn't be missing much.
Would you guys recommend the swap or wait for the HTC M10?
Thanks.
If you're happy with the m8, wait.
I'm going from a M8 to the 6P.
For a start you won't have HTC Sense so less bloat on the phone. But hey if you like Sense (eg DTW than stick with HTC)
In my opinion as much as i liked my M8 when i first got it, it's slow as hell now even though i don't use it for that much day to day. I even find myself rebooting it at least 1/2 times a week.
All my old Nexus phones i never rebooted except for software upgrades.
/rant/ And I've got the same apps on my M8 as i did my nexus phones. Plus I rely on my own cloud synology solution so less on the phone in terms of pics/music now. So if anything this phone should be better.. /end rant/
But yeah maybe wait to see the phone in a store if possible? Then judge it. But as someone else said if you like your M8 and can't see any difference stick with it
Upgrading from the M8 to the 6P. Tired of the crappy camera on the M8 so yeah, just upgrade.
Going to go from the M7 to the 6P.
The 5X just doesn't do it for me at all.
Only thing I'm afraid of is the difference in size but held a iPhone 6S+ (yuck!!) which is roughly the same size, I should be OK with it.
Just waiting for it to become available in Hong Kong.

should i buy a moto x pure?

Hello,
My galaxy note 4 started to give me a lot of problems so i decide to search for a new phone.
I cannot spend more than $400 dollars so i was thinking in getting Moto X Pure.
Do you think right now is a good choose or i should look for another one??
For me a key factor is to have the micro sd slot.
Thanks in advance.
Regards!!
I personally think it is a great phone for the price range. It has a micro SD slot. Aside from that I recommend looking around for your options.
I'd go OP3 if you aren't on Verizon.

He said he needs a microsd slot which the One Plus 3 does not have. I bought this phone and I am enjoying.
I'm selling a moto x pure for 300 in mint condition bought in January this year
I wouldn't buy it again. Battery life is really crappy. Go for a nexus 6p or 5x. Hell, for the first time in years I'm actually considering an iPhone again after having this phone. I mean, it's not particularly bad as a phone, it's pretty fast, has microSD, QHD screen, thin bezels, but my god, 2.5 hours of screen-on time has me glued to the charger. I can only make it through a day if I don't use it much.

You must have a lighter usage than us, I also have between 2h30 to 3h30 SOT before it gets below 30% and I charge it.
But all the rest has been a great experience so far, it is just bugging me that I have to plan ahead charging the phone (which is a non-problem if you have access easy access to a wall charger or external battery). If it had removable battery it would be perfect!
I would not buy. I love the styling of the phone but in the US, LenovoMoto has forgotten us. No security updates since February and if you decide to install a custom rom, your warranty is voided. I unlocked my bootloader and my front facing camera failed after having the phone for less than six months. LenovoMoto won't repair it.
For me I need two of three things to buy a phone: unlockable for custom roms, microsd slot, removable battery. The Pure has two of the three but again, since they won't support hardware defects the fact that the phone is unlockable really doesn't matter. I'm on Verizon, which makes it even tougher since they are pretty hostile towards developer phones.
I like this phone alot except for the audio jack. That is the only reason I will be getting something else soon.
Turn Back Now!!!
Moto x pure is a great phone and is built very well. Feels great in hand due to curved back, SD slot, camera is solid, radios in Motorola are the best. The IPS screen is welcomed change, you get more real colors...then those over saturated coloring books you call Samsung, I switched from S7 edge, if that says anything. Moto X Pure is really snappy with Pure Android on it. I was more than happy with this phone from consumer point...that being said....turn back if you want ROMS and Dev support. There are couple Stock ROMs and few custom ROMs...but its dead in alot of the threads and Devs never respond to you. I personally would go with Nexus 6p. I own it and there is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more ROMs and Dev support. Not to mention it has up to date support and it has android N already. Best buy has gd deal on Nexus6p, believe in your price range, but no sd card slot....so its trade off but Nexus has best support for updates n dev community. Gd luck!!! May the Root be with you!
Appreciate your help guys!! at the end i decided to buy it!! i spend last night installing everything.
Let's see how good is the change from Samsung (i had s3, s4 and note 4) to Motorola.
The only reason why i didn't buy the Nexus was the external memory slot, for me that's critical.
Regards!!

Nexus will always get support and I have checked the dev threads and I do developers there helping. I have this running a deoxed/rooted/exposed and I am trying to determine if adding CM or anything else is worth it or not because everything works.
My stereo bluetooth loves this phone because it actually sounds like real music not washed out music from the Note 4.
Moto X Pure
Moto X Pure is on sale right now, only $239 plus free SD Card..http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...-discounted-319-99-64gb-239-99-16gb-bh-today/
I love it so far. My only complaint is the battery life. However, the awesome screen, camera, and speakers make up for it. Seriously though, the battery is bad. I get about 3.5 hours of SOT a day max. Coming from an LG G2 where 5 hours was the norm.... well....
The battery is about the only trade off, but with the specs and price range, i don't complain. The turbo charging is great to offset the issue of battery. For me one of the selling points was the radio hardware. Of all the devices my wife and I have owned, only Motorola and Nokia devices have manned to hold signal reliably in weak signal areas.

Is N6P worth it in today's time.?

Hello there,
I am thinking of purchasing a new Nexus 6P. I just want a phone with a bigger screen, great camera and sound and especially a great development support that can last for around the next 4 years..
Can anyone help me in knowing the battery life and the overall experience of using a Nexus 6P..
Price is USD 460 (Brand new)
Would be of great help..!
Thanks,
A fellow Android user.
PS - My main reason of considering a N6P is a great community support.
If you wish, you can recommend me any phone running Pure Android , that would be worth the purchase.

It is a great phone, but I though I've heard that a new 6P could be had for around $350 or so. $460 is very close to what it was at launch. but even still at what the Pixel and they new S8 and G6 will cost, that will still be a a very good price comparatively speaking. I personally wouldn't pay more then say $350-$400 for one now at almost 18 months old.
Worth it

I just bought a used Nexus 6p to replace a failing Moto X Pure Edition (2015) and I am extremely pleased with it so far. For longevity it's very hard to tell when you're talking about 4 years out but there is very little out there with the pure experience that is going to match the support the 6p will have. Battery life has been acceptable though not amazing. Charges very fast so that helps offset. Standby time has been excellent though screen on time is what really drains it. The camera takes great photos though the HDR+ processing is slower than I thought it would be (as is processing of the Blur effect when used).
The experience has been the best of any phone I've used. Everything is snappy and I don't get occasionaly slowdowns I used to get on every other phone I've used (Moto X, Note 4, HTC One, G2, S4). It's a bit heavier than I like and I keep a case on it because it is a bit slick with nothing on it but otherwise comfortable. I love finally having a phone with a fingerprint sensor and this one works great. I never have issues with it. Connectivity has been great with Wifi, 4G, bluetooth and GPS. No issues with any. Speakers are very good. Very similar quality to my Moto X Pure. Nice and loud and front facing.
I wish the camera sensor was a 16:9 ratio since I prefer taking all my photos that way. When you crop down to 16:9 on the 6p you're down to 8.3Mp which is a bit low for preserving detail. If you prefer 4:3 you won't have any complaints.
I run mine stock, rooted with google assistant enabled and my only complaint is that the stock launcher won't let you change the home screen grid size. I normally use Nova Launcher but I'm liking using the new icon quick shortcuts in Nougat (similar to the force touch actions on the iphone). Nova does this also but for some reason it doesn't work on the 6p (might have something to do with changing the model to a Pixel to enable google assistant).
By the way, I picked mine up used for $310 (64Gb).
read about the battery and boot loop issues. the 6p has issues. either the batteries are sub-par or there are software issues. many people have significant problems. hauwei will repair, but we have no real idea what is wrong and if there
if a real fix coming in the future.
i will be receiving a free placement from google--my phone was purchased from google. i will buy extra batteries planning on getting 6 to 12 months on a battery. if i was buying new now, i am not sure what i would do. i personally loved my 6p when it was working well. now that is shuts off early without warning, it is problematic.
I love my 6P but if I could do it over I would probably spend the money on a different phone. I feel like the 6P is a time bomb with the boot loop of death and battery issues. Some people can't even get replacements for their RMA'd phones since the 6P is no longer being made or they are getting back badly dinged up ones that show significant signs of use and abuse. There are serious issues with this phone. Google blames the hardware and Huawei blames Google. If you get 4 years out of one of these it will probably be a miracle.

Finally moved on

As the title says, I finally moved on. I couldn't do the constant 30-40% battery shutoffs. Not even to a phone with better specs, they're quite similar. I recently upgraded to a Moto G6 play sold at Walmart for boost mobile, $80. 4000mah battery is incredible,I get almost 2 days heavy use, 8 hours OST. I will never buy another phone with a battery smaller than 3,000mah as they seem to all go down the same road, random shut downs.
My wife's Moto z Droid has started the 10-15% shutdowns, just the beginning. It's quite and that Android cannot seem to properly assess worn batteries and provide a proper percentage.
One of the other huge down falls to this phone was the lack of SD card. When I initially bought the 32gb version, I was comfortably using a hair over 10gb on another Droid. In the past year I've noticed every single app has doubled or tripled in size. My poor Moto x was within a few MB of being full on a regular basis. I ended up removing app after app to help but it soon caught up. Even removed 4 gb of photos, but a few months later it filled in.
I loved the wood back on my Moto X, it's what sold me. Lack of SD card, battery woes and lack of updates killed this device much faster than it deserved. Heck without bootloader unlock I would have been stuck on 5.1!!! Thats unacceptable.
I want to thank the diehard developers that kept this device alive. Your guys are the best. To anyone else waiting to upgrade, do it!

The Moto X 2014 is very long in the tooth at this point. When it came out the battery and camera were quite mediocre. Both got noticeably worse as the phone aged. Because of that this phone didn't age as well as the OnePlus One or Nexus 6. Also LineageOS 15.1 might never go official for this device as the rules are more strict. Still one of my favorite phones ever built but it had to go.
Anyways congrats on the upgrade. Do you have to activate the G6 Play on Boost Mobile for that price? I'd buy one for that price to mess about with as a WiFi only device, not using a SIM.
