Hello,
My galaxy note 4 started to give me a lot of problems so i decide to search for a new phone.
I cannot spend more than $400 dollars so i was thinking in getting Moto X Pure.
Do you think right now is a good choose or i should look for another one??
For me a key factor is to have the micro sd slot.
Thanks in advance.
Regards!!
I personally think it is a great phone for the price range. It has a micro SD slot. Aside from that I recommend looking around for your options.
I'd go OP3 if you aren't on Verizon.

He said he needs a microsd slot which the One Plus 3 does not have. I bought this phone and I am enjoying.
I'm selling a moto x pure for 300 in mint condition bought in January this year
I wouldn't buy it again. Battery life is really crappy. Go for a nexus 6p or 5x. Hell, for the first time in years I'm actually considering an iPhone again after having this phone. I mean, it's not particularly bad as a phone, it's pretty fast, has microSD, QHD screen, thin bezels, but my god, 2.5 hours of screen-on time has me glued to the charger. I can only make it through a day if I don't use it much.

i can easily get 5+ hours lol what are u talking about
Also finding battery very good. Just got this phone and came from an lg g4 and find them very similar in battery performance. I would definitely consider a g4 in the uk you can get them on eBay for £150

You must have a lighter usage than us, I also have between 2h30 to 3h30 SOT before it gets below 30% and I charge it.
But all the rest has been a great experience so far, it is just bugging me that I have to plan ahead charging the phone (which is a non-problem if you have access easy access to a wall charger or external battery). If it had removable battery it would be perfect!
I would not buy. I love the styling of the phone but in the US, LenovoMoto has forgotten us. No security updates since February and if you decide to install a custom rom, your warranty is voided. I unlocked my bootloader and my front facing camera failed after having the phone for less than six months. LenovoMoto won't repair it.
For me I need two of three things to buy a phone: unlockable for custom roms, microsd slot, removable battery. The Pure has two of the three but again, since they won't support hardware defects the fact that the phone is unlockable really doesn't matter. I'm on Verizon, which makes it even tougher since they are pretty hostile towards developer phones.
I like this phone alot except for the audio jack. That is the only reason I will be getting something else soon.
Turn Back Now!!!
Moto x pure is a great phone and is built very well. Feels great in hand due to curved back, SD slot, camera is solid, radios in Motorola are the best. The IPS screen is welcomed change, you get more real colors...then those over saturated coloring books you call Samsung, I switched from S7 edge, if that says anything. Moto X Pure is really snappy with Pure Android on it. I was more than happy with this phone from consumer point...that being said....turn back if you want ROMS and Dev support. There are couple Stock ROMs and few custom ROMs...but its dead in alot of the threads and Devs never respond to you. I personally would go with Nexus 6p. I own it and there is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more ROMs and Dev support. Not to mention it has up to date support and it has android N already. Best buy has gd deal on Nexus6p, believe in your price range, but no sd card slot....so its trade off but Nexus has best support for updates n dev community. Gd luck!!! May the Root be with you!
Appreciate your help guys!! at the end i decided to buy it!! i spend last night installing everything.
Let's see how good is the change from Samsung (i had s3, s4 and note 4) to Motorola.
The only reason why i didn't buy the Nexus was the external memory slot, for me that's critical.
Regards!!

How is it? I'm considering buying it! I'll be upgrading from a Moto G1
it's a very good phone, the build quality, the screen, the sound (i love it!!) it's a safe buy right now.

Nexus will always get support and I have checked the dev threads and I do developers there helping. I have this running a deoxed/rooted/exposed and I am trying to determine if adding CM or anything else is worth it or not because everything works.
My stereo bluetooth loves this phone because it actually sounds like real music not washed out music from the Note 4.
Moto X Pure
Moto X Pure is on sale right now, only $239 plus free SD Card..http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...-discounted-319-99-64gb-239-99-16gb-bh-today/
I love it so far. My only complaint is the battery life. However, the awesome screen, camera, and speakers make up for it. Seriously though, the battery is bad. I get about 3.5 hours of SOT a day max. Coming from an LG G2 where 5 hours was the norm.... well....
The battery is about the only trade off, but with the specs and price range, i don't complain. The turbo charging is great to offset the issue of battery. For me one of the selling points was the radio hardware. Of all the devices my wife and I have owned, only Motorola and Nokia devices have manned to hold signal reliably in weak signal areas.

I don't think I'll be the one. I'm sick and tired of locked bootloader and now Nexus 6 is anounced with same paramers as G3 but with 3 GB Ram. Deffinitely I miss my old Galaxy Nexus with thousand of custom roms..
The Nexus 6 will have the S805 with 3GB RAM, unlocked boot loader with loads of custom Roms and kernels and a 2k screen. If it has a MicroSD slot also then its a definite winner over the G3.
If it's like any other nexus, i highly doubt they're gonna add a micro sd slot, since they never did put any on every other nexuses (nexusi ? Whatever). And personally, i think a 5.9inch display is way too big. The G3 fits perfectly in my hands.
Has Nexus 6 been announced already?
A lot of "ifs" on the Nexus 6 still. Battery life, storage, materials, and hand fit. And cost of course.
The big one for me is battery life. If the rumored 3200mah is true, with that huge screen it's probably going to push it to lower than the G3, which is already marginal. If it has AMOLED rather than LCD it might be a bit better, but even then it's pushing it.
Nexus 6 announced? Lol where

Don't think I'll sell my G3 but it's very likely that I'll buy the new Nexus phone to replace it. In regards to battery life, I'm on this G3 forum almost everyday hearing people talk about how horrible the battery is on this phone but I get far better usage than any other Android device I've owned (and I've gone through a few of em). Maybe it's the fact that I have the Rogers D852 that no one else seems to own but I take my phone off the charger at 7am each morning and I can get to 7am the next day with 15-20% battery remaining under my normal use with Bluetooth & WiFi on and Power Saving mode disabled. Go figure
Im so irritated with the lack of custom roms/dev support im almost about to let my G3 go as well. This phone the most powerful device ive ever owned across all specs and i cant do **** with it but root lol. Im kind of getting tired of android too. I may do the unthinkable and sell my G3, and then buy a blackberry passport just because its different.
no sd slot? no thanks.
i had 5 nexus devices and at some point i got sick of always deleting old music to make storage for new mp3s. when i`m on the walk i want to listen what i want and not what there was space for.
this is the biggest downside for nexus devices and was the reason why i bought the g3.
If the Nexus 6 (Nexus X?) is available on Verizon - I know, big and unlikely if - I can almost guarantee I'll be selling my 3 week old G3. I like this phone, but I hate OEM skins and the lack of an unlocked bootloader means I'm stuck with LG's ****ty software. I only have this phone because my G2 died within the one year manufacturer warranty and Best Buy didn't have any in stock. I can't wait to not own this phone anymore.

I can't pocket a 6" screen phone. Nice sounding specs though.
I'll sell in a heart beat for aosp
LG has destroyed hope in my experience owning this phone lol
No sd slot no thanks..... and rumored 5.9 inch screen is way too big
I think they might put an SD slot on it. Remember it is Motorolla that is making it and it is going to be more expensive than the N5. But it is a deal breaker, if it does have an SD slot then its a must buy, if not forget it.
Doesn't look like a will be getting one if these rumours are anything to by. The sheer size of it is a put off.

The Nexus 6 will have to be a LOT better made than the last few in order to make me change. The 4 had a rubbish screen and a terrible camera, the 5 has appalling quality control, a dull, uninteresting design and the worst screen ive seen in years.
I have no issues with a near 6" screen.
At my age my eyes need all the help they can get.
What worries me is the knocked up photo of n6 next to a g3.
And it's huge. So much bigger than the g3 it's not funny.

I know right. I can barely pocket my G3 without having a giant square outline. Anything after 5.5 is just too large of a screen.
Nexus 6 would be the same size like ip6+ just with a 5.9 vs 5.5 inch screen. If the battery will be better than G3, for sure I'll buy it. Indeed battery is a major factor for me. And I am not disappointed by G3 battery but I want a longer screen-on time.
If the 6" screen rumor is accurate, it's too big for me. Also, it won't have SD card support, nor a removable battery. As big as it is, the latter probably isn't an issue, but storage is.
I currently have the G4, but I really dislike the look/feel, the battery life, the UI, and the touchscreen issues. Anyone else switching from the G4 to the 6P? I already have mine pre-ordered.
I'm finally putting my G2 out to pasture...
I want to switch from the G4, mostly due to the touchscreen issues and partially to the UI, but the AMOLED screen is a major turn off. Both phones I've had with AMOLED suffered from burn in, the Nexus 6 a week into owning it.
Yes.

i am kinda ......... I went from a note 4 to a LGG4 and back to the note 4 ...... I still have my G4 but it collects dust mostly, I did flash a rom on it this past weekend. I just missed the 5.7 inch screen and the lack of dev was killing me.
I'm seriously considering it. Maybe I have a bad G4 but even after disabling the bloat, flashing a different rom, and trying other things, it still lags and my battery life definitely ain't the best if even close to that.
I work from 8-4, my phone will be at 100 when I get to work and almost totally drained by noon, and I don't do anything intensive.
To be completely honest. My wife's S6 feels a lot smoother especially when typing in SwiftKey.
Yes. Although I picked up a couple other phones before the 6p (note 5, moto x). I hated the g4. Still can't understand the circle jerk surrounding that device. So many issues

Yup same here. I even did a KDZ restore and did not root it, still seems to have poor battery life. The touchscreen issues are really aggravating too, with lots of keyboard misses. I have the Verizon G4 so no ROMs yet. I miss the dev support of the G2/G3, lots of mods and ROMs, but nothing for the Verizon G4 yet.
It will be nice to finally have stock Android and fast updates with lots of dev support.
Not a G4, but a G3.
I've got a G4 and I'm enjoying it, but I miss a fingerprint scanner (came from an Ascend Mate 7) and vanilla Android. The only thing I'm giving up with the 6P is expandable storage (since I don't really carry an extra battery around anywhere to make use of removable battery), but that's rectified by the 128GB model of the 6P, which is what I ordered. USB OTG also means storing ROM's will be easy, and an SD card isn't needed.
The G4 is an amazing device, especially when you consider the fact you can grab one at a steep discount these days. But I'm a fan of a clean UI and larger phones, so I gave in and bought the 6P.

G4 is the most balanced phone in 2015 , camera is amazing. Lacks of development is my turnoff but i will wait N6P drop price and i want to see real camera sample before dumping my G4 , im pretty happy with it!
coming from iPhone 5, I'm actually deciding between Lg G4 and Nexus 6P to be my first android device... so it's quite obvious that I have no clue about "Root" or "Custom Rom".
the decision is already tough guyz on top of that LG released LG V10, which confuse me even more

I'd go with the V10 over the G4 IMO, unless it's a lot more expensive.
I have the verizon g4 since inception and a week ago after having some major issues beyond the typical, I convinced them to send me a new one. I must say that quality control must really suck because the new one is definitely running better than my old one which was rooted, debloated, and running some xposed modules. I haven't rooted the new one and it seems snappier and the battery seems the same which is fine as I haven't had much to complain about with the battery.
With that being said, I'll probably be ordering the 6P in a month or so. It sounds like it has everything I want, including a premium feel. I don't have that with the g4, even though I have leather backs.
Just going to wait for some more reviews to make sure it's as good as it sounds.
The g4 is a very good phone and will serve as an excellent backup.
I'll have a problemless g4 and a 6p.
I used the G4 while I was on a trip, loved the camera. I liked the customizations LG's skin offered however I couldn't stand the UI and the LG, the touch sucked.
I really liked the size and feel in hand with the brown leather back.
The battery wasn't great either so I'm hoping the 6P has a better camera and battery.

the more I think about V10 less attractive it gets to be honest.... i keep my phone for at least 2 years before replacing it so having a 5.9 inch phone with gimmicky secondary screen doesn't seem practical... recently i also started looking into Sony Z5, waiting for reviews now
@scott4u Get the nexus 6p. Ive had lots of devices. Nexus i hold dear to my heart they are fast and the development is endless. I had touch to wake 3 years ago on my nexus 4. And I'm typing this on a g4. You should make your first time special.

well Nexus 6P is definitely in my radar but at same time Sony Z5 also look cool... specially coz i read that sony added a extra heat distribution pipe to control heat issue of 810 chip without under-clocking it.

I got my MXP last week and I love it so far. However, I see so many complaints about busted units, units going bad, and poor customer service, that I'm debating returning it and getting something else.
Now we all know that the negative stuff always gets more kicking and screaming than the positive, so I wanted to see how many people have had good experiences so far. How many of you have had the phone since release and have had no issues? How many of you have had good experience with customer service?
I have 7 days to decide if I'm returning the phone, but I wanted to see if it's really all that bad since Moto was bought by Lenovo.
Really... i have no problems here. I´m happy with that phone, exept it has no fm radio, all other things are good for me. good battery, good haptic, no hang ups, smooth ROM and nice camera. and the material is very nice (i have a leather back).
It's the coolest phone I've ever owned for sure. You can't go wrong with Moto Maker customizations when it comes to look and feel. Love the feel of my wooden back. I've dropped it a few times, albeit inside a case, and so far I have no dents, scratches, or screen issues. Love the practically stock Android build. Love the extra Moto apps. Having SMS read back to me is really nice when I'm driving. The software still runs snappy and smooth, with only occasional stutters (which happens with ANY android phone regardless of chipset let's be honest). The phone can get warm with heavy use, but never what I'd call hot. The camera may not be on par with the iPhone 6 or Galaxy S6, but it's still the best I've owned coming from HTC and Motorola phones.
My only real annoyance is the headphone jack being on top as opposed to the bottom of the phone. I also wish that 3rd party music player apps could have the same functionality with Moto display that Play Music does.
This is an awesome phone IMO, especially for the price.
I'm sure many of us are happy. However, I will acknowledge that customer service seems to be a significant and pervasive problem.
Luckily haven't had to deal with customer service, and I'm very happy with the phone. Feels good, works good, good price..... no complaints.
I really like my phone and features. Battery life is good for my use and overall it is an excellent device. You have to understand there will be bad units like with any other phone. Also, people on the forum are usually more advanced users and have a tendency to be very particular on what they want from a phone. There is always going to be something out there that does some function, whether it be processor, camera or whatever, better than this phone. I look at it from the price and value I receive from this phone. It is an excellent buy for the dollar. It is by no means perfect but satisfies my needs.
Love my X, coming from a Z3 rooting is so easy

Are you kidding? The Moto X Pure Edition is like the best phone you can buy! I just got a brand new 32 Gb model on Amazon for $450, that is $250 off the MSRP of $699. You can root it, you have an external sdcard, you can get it with larger internal sdcard, you get a huge, brilliant screen, and you can root it. What is not to love?
The only recommendation I can make is that you ditch the stock Google Now launcher and get something good like the Nova Prime Launcher. With the Nova launcher, you can add Xposed modules and really change it the way you like. Great phone, no complaints!

So far it's been a blast with this phone, I'm really glad i bought it! No defects or problems with the phone that I've noticed. It's really smooth and close to stock, decent amount roms so far, amazing speakers, screen, and feel. It's great, just wish we could get our hands marshmallow asap!
The camera is such a huge upgrade from the note 3s, and the vibration motor is so nice. Love this phone.
My Best Buy MPX has a couple spots on the LCD panel. Thinking about returning it but I'll get a replacement. Have had the Note 3 and Note 4 and really love this phone.
Don't like the volume button placement (or how flimsy the buttons feel) nor do I like the mono colored LED light.
But I really, really like this phone.

You are not missing anything. That is what Verizon charges for a new smartphone. Nobody else charges that much but when I got my Razr, that was a $599 phone. If I lost it and needed it replaced, I had to pay the full $600 unless I got insurance. Verizon kept that $600 replacement Razr Maxx price for years! After a couple of years, I wanted to drop the insurance but they would not budge on the $600 replacement cost so I kept the coverage. I lost/broke the Maxx 4 times in 3 years, each deductible was $100 with the Verizon/Asurion insurance. I broke it 3x and left it on the men's room counter at McDonalds once, drove right back, no phone.
Verizon would not insure this phone because they did not sell it to me. They told me to return the Moto-X Pure Edition to Amazon, then buy a phone from them (At FULL RETAIL) and then they would insure it! Who wants a watered down 2nd Gen phone with no ext-sdcard, tiny screen, and small internal sdcard? Bah! Amazon has the Asurion insurance, $36 for 4 years. But, no lost or theft coverage.
The Pure Edition at $400 Amazon is a good price, brand new. I wanted some room in the phone and $50 to get a 32 GB internal sdcard was worth it since you cannot do that upgrade later like buying a huge external card and plugging it in.
I've had mine from from day 1 and have yet to have an issue. People only post when they have bad experiences!
I love the phone, having owned it for about a month now. Not sure why you'd want to switch if you love it too.
I am really happy with the MXPE.
Headphone out audio quality/power is really good (main reason I bought it), with Audio Effects turned off ( completely disabled). Runs smooth and cool (does get warm with extended GPS navigation using Google maps), overall fewer glitches than other phones I've had, but I keep the Moto stuff disabled and a fairly minimal app load which probably helps. (No gaming either.) 128GB SD card mounted, also mounts 2TB exFAT USB HD and spins it up with no external power on USB OTG, a pleasant surprise. Using 2 second MP3 lead-in silence as workaround for ringer/notification volume ramp issue, no complaints there. Battery performance is middling, but the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 actually delivers as promised and effectively compensates with quick top-ups while commuting etc. Display auto-brightness is slow to respond, I turned it off and use the manual brightness slider which is fine because it is in the two-finger pulldown menu. Wireless works well, including WiFi which also does same-SSID AP handoffs as needed without dropping streaming audio/video. The double-chop flashlight and double-twist camera activate are actually quite useful. Camera functions and takes great photos IMO, but I'm not picky about that. Have not tried the selfie cam, taping that over was the second thing I did to this phone (first was unlocking bootloader).
If it already had T-Mobile LTE Band 12 and VoLTE it would be 5 star in my opinion, as it is I give it 4.5/5. Looking forward to band 12 as promised by Moto.
Customer service is abysmal, but that is the norm in 2015.
There's no other phone i'd rather have right now
I got this phone via MotoMaker and did not have defects or issues with the build of the phone. MXP does very well in poor signal areas on VZ and rarely drops calls (unlike the LG G3 which dropped calls all the time). The screen is excellent outdoors on sunny days, I love the two front speakers, and had no problems with the headphone jack. The camera is the only disappointment: it's better than I thought but still not as good as the G3.
Overall, I'm very happy with the MXP.
Honestly it's a great phone. I have two gripes one minor and one major. No band 12 support OOTB and my major gripe is the moto x would've benefitted greatly from an adreno 420 or adreno 430. The cpu is fine but a lot of stuff and battery probably would've benefitted from more GPU power.
Battery on my Release Day N6 is dying. Only charges on the Turbo Charge and drains way to fast.
I can move on and the Pixel XL looks like my best option, (I'm not in love wit the Pixel) because the Moto Z Force will never have root and that's a great phone.
OR
My buddy does phone repair and has the heat gun, tools etc and I can swap batteries with another N6 I have that the screen is shattered on. But It'd be a week before I can get to his house :/
Truth is, I'm ready for a new phone. What do YOU guys think, is there one I'm missing that I can love as much as the N6, or just fix mine and hope VZW gets the Zenfone AR if it ever gets released?
I just got oneplus 3t just for the time being. Honestly, it is one of the best phone for the price. Had honor 8 briefly, but I'm not a fan of EMUI 5.0. plus honor U.S.A is pretty slow rolling out the software update.
Oneplus is pretty fast on updating their software. I mean at the end of the day, Its kinda ridiculous to spend $650 and up for a smartphone nowadays.
Oh and I still have my nexus 6 as my back up, the phone is still getting the job done for my usage.

OnePlus is not an option on Verizon
Nexus 6 batteries are between $12 & $20 on Amazon. That's pretty cheap. I think it's worth the trouble. There's some YouTube videos on changing that battery and it doesn't look too difficult. Plus you have an extra Nexus 6 to practice on if I'm reading the OP correctly.

That's the way I'm gonna go. I really don't want a Pixel, unless someone finds root for the Droid Z Force or that Asus comes to Verizon
Nexus 6p or buy another Nexus 6

I still love my shamu 64GB I plan on changing my battery whenever it stops holding a charge. All rechargeable batteries have a finite number of times they can be charged before they start acting the way yours is now. Once your battery is replaced with a quality replacement you'll likely be good for a couple of years and shamu is still an awesome device in my opinion. I'm a little apprehensive about changing my own Nexus 6 battery but when the time comes I'm gonna give it a try. Let us know how it goes.
@HipKat don't go for Nexus 5x or 6p as both suffers from some hardware related bootloop issue. Just go to their respective forums and anyone can have a look at the Q&A section. Not worth the trouble as the phone is bound to randomly die at some point.
If those are your only option and you won't change carrier to get a OnePlus 3T, then I would go for one of the Pixels as they at least has good custom ROM support. If you don't care about custom ROM support then it's up to your preference.

Believe me, custom development is a HUGE factor and I wouldn't go for an old phone.
@bigbaluka I watched a few vids and it seems decent. Like I posted, my buddy has all the tools. We work for Dish Network and he's one of the guys that does screen repair and battery replacement for iPhone and Samsung devices. (Don'tr ask me WHY Dish is doing this....)

I'm not sure I'd replace the 6 for a 6p or a 5X. I got a 5X and it was more for the size, but I can't say it overperforms the 6 plus there are the potential bootloop issues. The Pixel is OK, but you'll be paying up big time and esp if you are not really keen about it, it's a decent chunk of money to drop down. Sounds like you like your 6, I'd just try and replace the battery since it sounds like that's the only issue. It were different if it was a broken screen or something else, but battery I'd just do that.

Yeah, agreed. I did 2 things, found a different USB cable, which looks like it solved the charging problem and switched to Dark Rom which seems to have amazing battery life. I think it'll still drain faster until I get the battery switched, so I must have had a few problems going on; bad cable, deteriorating ROM and battery that doesn't hold a charge like It used to
While my N6 isn't quick as old as yours, I have definitely noticed a lag of late. Taking pictures especially.
And while it might be nowhere near the same class as the N6, I think the Moto G5 Plus might be a good replacement. Sure, the screen size is considerably smaller, it lacks dual front-facing speakers, NFC, etc. but that price! I like the design, and as the kernel source code has already been released, my hope is that the dev community will build some nice roms for this little guy.
We'll see what Motorola does with the true Moto X replacement (not the "Is it a Moto X or is it a Moto E" we are seeing). But that Moto G5 Plus price is hard to ignore.
I just think the Pixel is too expensive. They might solve all of the issues with the release of the Pixel 2, but who wants to spend $1k on a phone?
@Fvolfrine and others:
Lag when starting the camera is a feature of Android from around KitKat or so. The ram that the camera needs is made available for other use, and then the camera has to wait for it to be released.
It makes other apps faster, but the start of the camera significantly shower. You may agree or disagree with that trade-off, but as far as I know, it's the same on all recent phones. Though of course, it matters less if the phone has a lot of ram.
From what I read, the Moto G5 plus has hardware that is approximately as powerful as the N6. So the only way it can have less lag is if its rom is better optimized - and while that may be the case for the stock roms, the N6 has a large community of devs that provide greatly optimized roms.
@runekock - my lag isn't so much when starting the camera as it is when taking a picture. Even with HDR+ turned off, it takes 4-5 seconds for the picture to take. I've had this same experience on stock, and now on PureNexus, which I flashed about five days ago.

There is no lag when using a custom kernel. Try using a kernel different from stock.

Few weeks ago I wasn't able to turn on wifi any more. After factory reset and cache wipe I got it to turn on few times then it died again. I'm suspecting a hw problem. Now that Dark Rom is available for our phone, I might try my luck with that, but I'm not very optimistic.
I really liked this phone a lot. Now I have the option of getting new motherboard for 50€ or new phone (looking at iPhone 6s Plus or 7 Plus cause of that mega battery and brightness, but that price tho.. Was also looking at Pixel but I read it has too many problems + warranty outside my country).
Is Nexus 6 worth fixing (for 50€ + risk of messing something up during repair)?
For 50€ i would take the risk.
Used Nexus 6s still went for over US$100 last time I looked at ebay. If fixing one is $20, that seems a decent investment to me. My battery is about worn out so I will be doing just that soon.
If there are ever charging issues or USB cords falling out, check for lint in the USB port. My first N6 had that issue.
I started having charging issues with my 2 year old shamu a few months ago, getting a new oem charger fixed the problem for me and it's still going strong. I've got a 5x as well, but it doesn't get used much, shamu is a better device.
gonna add my own experience to the mix hoping it would be helpful to some, My N6's battery also started showing signs of a problem few month back after maybe more than a year of usage and it got worse over time. the problem is i cannot get my hand on a new battery anytime soon and i cannot use my N6 as a daily driver as it just dies randomly so i thought i go for the Galaxy S7 since the price was dropped prior to S8 launch and i did, but oh my, going from a heavily developed phone like N6 to S7 is really boring and no fun, might have just got an iphone and it would be just as dull.
so, if you gonna give up your N6 i suggest replace it with another nexus/pixel phone. but if you gonna keep it as a second phone (for whatever reason) then its up to you and your desires and needs, and ofc you cannot forget about the price tag.
Hey guys, I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on if this phone is still worth it? Especially for right around $300. Or am I better off saving some more money and buying a Pixel/Pixel XL or waiting for the Pixel 2s?

It's depend what you need overall I am happy with the v20. It's still great phone plus the killer audio if you don't need the new and greatest device. The good are good screen, audio, good for contents consumption, removeable battery. The not so good LG stock ui a little laggy for me sometime, size is not so compact and not much dev support for this phone. For $300 its steal. New phones not much new really they just try to make money from us after few weeks it get old like other phones.
I think so, of course, I just bought one last week...
With the price drops, it's a very good device for the money. Specs haven't been increasing as fast as years past, so devices are quite usable for longer times than before. We can still unlock/root and AOSP based ROMs are getting good. Updates will never be as fast as Google devices like the Pixel, but it's not bad and you don't lose as much waiting it out like we used to. Even Oreo doesn't add that much that I care about for features. The very latest flagships are maybe 20% faster. They also cost 2-3x as much. Value isn't there for me. Maybe it is for you, that's your decision to make.
I'm not interested in Pixel or most new devices right now. I came from a Nexus 6 with a dieing battery. I can replace it, and probably will, but it's annoying to do and runs a risk of destroying the device for a known maintenance part that we know will die. It's a bit like welding the oil plug on a car so you can't change the oil. Eventually it will die, it's a matter of time.
My requirements were: large screen (5.5"+), root, removable battery, SD, headphone jack, TMobile compatibility, value. I would have liked front facing speaker/speakers, but I can live without them. There's nothing out there in this year's devices that interests me. There's nothing wrong with options, but I do wish I had a couple to choose from as well. V20 was pretty much it. On the plus side for it though, tempered glass screen protectors are available that work well. And extended batteries. With the Zero Lemon 10k battery, I have what amounts to unlimited battery life. I'd probably fall asleep before running out. I also really hate the design trend with the camera sticking out from the back, and prefer thicker phones anyway, so it works for me.
If I were to drop removable battery, Axon 7 and OnePlus get more interesting. Though OnePlus doesn't have SD either, putting them lower on the list.
If root is important to you, make sure you know what software version you are getting and check to make sure it can be rooted. Some of the newer ones can't be yet. TMobile 10p, for example, can not.
I've had mine since launch and I still enjoy it. Granted the development support has stagnated lately. But I would completely recommend it. Especially if you get an extended battery.
I've had my v20 for three or four months. Solid phone, can't see any reason to upgrade.
I could buy three of these for the price of a galaxy note 8! Or one of these and a halfway decent laptop!
After this 10p update i'd have to say no. better off getting a v30 when it comes out.

Any particular reason why? Wasn't that just security patches?

Yes, that killed of DirtyCow, that killed off root for the foreseeable future.
If LG hadn't deleted all fastboot commands i'd say yeah get the V20. but now it will be unrootable and uncustomizable for quite some time.
I used the twrp zip 10p bootloader and modem... It completely refreshed my performance.
Getting 70+mbs down and 16 up... Compared to 10k modem I was getting 16 down and 3 up if lucky.
I also still have root (non OTA update).
So if you install update through twrp you still keep root.
I wouldn't ever really upgrade phones unless it's a new device that supports the new 600mhz band and 700mhz.
Had mine for a year.... It's amazing. Once you get it right, camera is good (Lazer focus and resolution replaced dslr), audio with DAC/HiFi/viper is amazing.
Screen and battery is great, sd card is a must for me.
If you can get a pristine/new one for $2-300 it's well worth it.
Only gripe, wish there was water proof case.

Thanks for the answers guys! But I ended up getting the Pixel XL for the sheer performance and rootability and I'm happy with the decision.
