ROMS afect Bluetooth? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a pair of wireless headphones, and they do a lot of skips and things like that when im on modify roms
Then I tried to experiment with Stock, and I had really different story, like 1 skip per day, another whole story...
It is this real? Placebo?

The tytn A2DP Jabra BT620 weirdness saga

Hiya Group!
Been lurking for two weeks know.
I'm a semi old geezer who decided to get myself a Tytn.
Checked out the BT620 on various places and everyone seemed happy with it, that is until I got myself a pair.
Problems started right out of the box. Skipping madly. You all know that story. Strange, I didn't see anything about that before I got my pair.
Anyway, I was major disappointed and turned my focus to my fresh 2GB mSD card. Installed an insane amount of apps (not my normal standard) and fiddled around in the settings etc. I came to a point where I realized I probably have to start fresh and be a bit more careful about what to install. 5-6 resets a day is just silly. Agree?
So, just a few minutes ago I decided to try out a simple phone call with the Jabras to Girlfriend (you'll know that has to be done every night or else....) Voice call works. Sound is fine and BT keeps working even with two walls (Swedish sturdy brick ones) between phone and headpiece.
..and just for fun, with no real expectations of having a good experience I fire up PocketMusic with a rather good Anthems of House collection in the playlist. AND IT IS WORKING!!!!
I figger I've ****ed up pretty much everything when it comes to having a usable system and i honestly cant tell you why the hell it is working know.
(Right know one hour of listening and just two short skips)
I'm old enough to realize these things happens now and then. The older I get the more now than then actually.
So what now? The Big Reset probably pushes me back to where I started. I reckon that, as long as I have the two devices connected they will stay put and in a good working order.
For now, I am a happy customer.
This became a rather lengthy report of nothing really.
Cheers
///j
Was one of the gazillion apps you installed the ITaskmgr by any chance?
WOW, maybe it was the hypno amd grey goose keeping me afloat through this one I dont know. Anyways, i have the jabra bt800 which I use for normal everyday calls and then when at work I use the plantronics 590a to switch between music and phone calls, now although I use the the bluetooth adapter that is included with the headset with my sirius unit more than I do with mp3's on my tytn I have used my tytns A2DP flawlessly so I dont know if there is a difference between the htc and dopod models or not but I kinda hope i left you as clueless about my answer as you left your question!
Nope, no ITaskmgr.
"...I kinda hope i left you as clueless about my answer as you left your question!"
Anyway, everything seems to back to normal now. Head phones don't even connect properly. And that I can, in a way, understand.
///j
I dont know why I asumed you haad a dopod model but none the less I would not settle for stereo headsets not working properly. Like I mentioned before, the plantronics work great for me and worked right out the box on voice and music. Pricegrabber normally finds these items at 30-50% off MSRP.

Problems with Audio (And other questions...)

I'm having problems with the audio on my HTC Wizard / Cingular 8125. Lately if I plug the wired headset into the port, the audio will still be routed through the speakers built into the device AND the headset. Is this a known issue, or am I the only person that this is happening to?
I love this device to death - my only other complaint is battery life. It seems to die very quickly while listening to music (which is understandable) but ... to go from a full battery to completely flat in a 1 hour commute on a train? That's a little .... excessive.
I love the Faria ROM - too bad that it was taken down. Anyone know if/when HTC will be releasing an Official Rom for WM6?
1) are you using a custom rom? i remember reading other posts about strange speaker behaviour in one or two of them, also have you installed any apps/progs recently?
2) again, custom rom? and obvious things like screen off and key lock? (try deltalock) other running progs off? (use CloseAll before running media player) to save power
3)only htc know. my guess is only for new devices, it probably costs too much for them to create and test, and why release a cheap/free rom update for old phones when they can just release a new device and say 'new hardware & new os, buy this'

[Q] Galaxy S5 + bluetooth cuts out during music playback?

I recently got a Galaxy S5 about a month ago and have been using LG Tones hbs730. While listening to music, whether it's streaming or on my device, it cuts out for a second or so. Sometimes it happens a lot at once and really kills the vibe. It almost sounds as if I was listening to music with aux headphones and I unplugged half way then plugged back in.. I have replaced the bluetooth with the HBS800's and the problem still persists. My Galaxy S4 did NOT do this. Any suggestions? I have tried just about everything. Thanks!!
Same problem with LG Tones HBS-750 fixed - sort of

I had the same issue with my AT&T S5 GM-900A and an LG HBS-750 bluetooth headset. Found the problem starts when the screen goes to sleep. I installed ScreenON just now and set it to the dimmest level. No more skipping. Unfortunately the screen does stay on, but it's a workaround. :fingers-crossed:
Just search the Google Play store for Screen ON

Yeah it's a common s5 problem. Put your phone in recovery and clear your cache that should fix it.

I just cleared the cache on my phone and rebooted. Using the stock music player, the music plays fine through the headset until the screen goes to sleep. Then it starts cutting out almost instantly. If I enable ScreenOn so it doesn't go to sleep or have it in daydream mode while charging, the music plays fine. Do you know of anything else we could try?

If you're rooted you can try installing Viper4Android, I think it has an option to disable Bluetooth low power mode which might be the problem.
Tapped It!
According to the update's bug fix list, this bug was supposedly fixed in the 4.4.4 update. But since that update, my bluetooth audio cuts out just as much, if not more. Wiping the cache partition doesn't help at all.
Is there another thread that discusses this that's more recent and has more than three people addressing it? (i.e. since the 4.4.4 update)

I've just switched from a sony Z1 to the s5 and noticed this issue with bluetooth in my car.
The Z1 was rock solid in the same car via bluetooth.
It seems the s5 gets drop outs when then screen is off for a while and i presume it turns some of the CPU cores off or something?
I have a g900F, there isn't a 4.4.4 firmware out for it yet? The Z1 was running 4.4.4 though and was OK.
i'm so happy that i'm not aline, not for you of course. Did someone find a solution? i also have the lg 730, and i also have sony z1, but i really can't use the 730 with z1, it was awful, and also have problem with the screen, so my phone company give me the s5, and i was happy , but i still have problems with bluetooth. Some tied another headhones?.
It is confime that the problem is because Bluetooth power?

I've got no idea what's the cause of this behaviour. However I pretty much tried every solution attempt that I could find on the net, except for rooting or custom ROM. Nothing has brought a solution for me, not even close actually. All actions taken seem to have no effect at all on the audio stuttering. Meanwhile my two brothers can play their music my home theater (which is what I'm trying to do) without a single hiccup for hours. It makes me think it must have something to do with a deeper problem. Bluetooth low power seems at least more likely to me than any other possibility, although that's highly speculative on my part.
I have been trying to get bluetooth audio from my phone to my home theater to work ever since I got this phone. It seems such a mundane task to me, yet Samsung seems to fail to fix this issue and I'm actually getting seriously pissed off at that.
When I contact Samsung support they seem to think this is a problem that is just on my phone and actually suggest to hard reset my phone and all that nonsense.
Meanwhile I updated to Android 5, the official version, but no change in this stuttering behaviour what so ever. And actually, audio to my home theater is one of the main purposes of this phone for me. The fact that I haven't been able to do that for many months now, well... That's a f**** sad situation.
And on top of all that, with the 5.0 update, I now get about 5 hours on a full charge (was getting at least 15 hours on 4.4.4). But that's another thread, I know.

i came here with good news for me, at least. After triying lots of things, installing programas and unintalling them and Reading a lot i read somo post with the same problem of us. But in that post they focus the problem not in the bluetooth but in the cpu. They claim that the worst (because may be more tan one) proble is the cpu profiles to save battery. So tire with the bluetooth path i follow this new one. After some test (with tasker) i change my cpu governor from interactive to performance and almost solve the problem, i have a little jump now and them, but nothing too anoying. I need more testin because having the cpu governor in performance all the time kill my battery too fast. But at least i can hear music again with my belove LG-730.

Well.. There's no changing the cpu governor without rooting.
A little jump now and then is still unacceptable for me. This phone is a cpu powerhouse so regardless of cpu governance or scheduling, this should work without any jump or cut out at all.
Are you sure it's not a coincidence that your situation has improved? I mean, with the cpu in power saving mode, normal audio playback without bluetooth should be pretty much equally problematic as playback with bluetooth. I've never had an issue with music cutting out without bluetooth usage.
I'm not sure of anything, at this moment i'm testing this, and without doing any other change i improve the quality to a level where i can use bluetooth again. Before i have between 3 and 5 jumps per song, and not little ones. Now one every hours or more and i thinks this ones are from other things, like gps and some programas that affect or bluettoth o music. From hear i'm not sure what to test next beside cpu, this one was my last bet before leaving bluettoth for ever. So any advice are welcome.

You shouldn't hear any jump at all, even when you are using the phone for other actions as well. Quad core CPU and 2gb memory really is far more than you should need to do all those things. For example, one of my brothers has a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini. When he connects his phone to my home theater he can play music, lookup soccer results, read the news, ... All that without any jump what so ever. Obviously that's the way it should work.
I still got a laptop with a Pentium 3 550Mhz, 512mb memory, win2000, .... It's able to do all these things and it's almost 15 years old. There simply is no excuse.
For what i read is not a hardware problem it's the saving battery profile for the cpu. So you have the hardware but android tell the cpu to go veryyyyyy slow so you save battery

Yah, you're probably right about the cause. But does that really matter, we're speculating anyway. The fact that ancient devices do this better than this modern device I'm using now is just pathetic.
yep you are right, its pathetic.

Video playback on Remix - extremely choppy please help before I go insane!

I posted a thread up a while ago about playback being poor on Remix with 50Hz content (mods please delete that thread thank you), but it seems following a recent fresh install that all video playback is absolutely terrible no matter how I approach it.
I use an external WD 2Tb drive which connects via Stickmount. This is working fine for roms and also on other units (Ouya, Rpi2 etc). It's a mains powered drive and I plug it directly into the USB 2 slot and then into the wall so it doesn't use the MOJO's power. My telly admittedly isn't the best - it's an old Samsung 32" HD Ready thing that usually only goes to 720p (but will detect and utilise 1080p as evidenced by my Ouya) but it has never displayed this issue before. Ouya playback wasn't amazing, but it was way better than I'm experiencing here.
No matter what media player I use, be it Kodi, SPMC, MX Player, VLC or even directly from the gallery, all playback from local files on the drive (mp4, MKV, avi, divx and so on) is extremely choppy. Frames seem to be dropping, jumping and lagging, making video viewing unbearable. At first I thought it was the media player, but no matter what I settings I adjust the video will stutter. I've tried my own recommended settings, and many different types of combinations but nothing stops it. Believe me, I've spent hours at this! I've even tried changing out the HDMI cable for something better but it's made no difference.
So now I'm pretty confident this is happening at system level and cannot be addressed in the player's settings. There must be a setting somewhere that needs to be addressed to enable better video playback. Please please help me, I am going insane. Or could it be the TV and I should buy a proper HD set?
Either way, help me end this madness please!
Too late to get help before you go insane--you're addicted to Androids.
Do you have the same problem streaming from the internet? That would tell us if it's an input or output problem. Also, don't let's overlook the obvious--are you plugging in the HDD into the USB3 port or the USB2? Have you tried copying a file to a good fast microSD card and playing it from there? (the Samsung EVOs recently dropped in price dramatically). And it might be worth trying out CM12.1 again too. Maybe even trying a different USB cable to the HDD. But you didn't have this problem before you reinstalled RemixOS, did you? I'm rambling but I want to get as many ideas out before my short-term memory loss kicks in. But I would think the MOJO has plenty of horsepower on any Lollipop ROM to play videos at 1080p. Resource hog running in the background? Did you try a task killer?

Thanks for your detailed reply!
1. Playing video via the YouTube app looks fine.
2. The HDD is plugged in via USB2. The CTRLR dongle is in the USB3 slot.
3. Haven't tried playing a file via SD Card. I have a good Sandisk one somewhere and will give it a go. Good idea.
4. Will certainly try a newer USB cable as I do like to eliminate the obvious and easy solutions first where possible. But no, I did not have this issue with the Rpi or the Ouya.
5. I will try a task killer but like you I don't think this is the issue. Going into Remix settings there doesn't seem to be anything reported as taking up a lot of memory.
Two things I have tried since posting. First was playing the same files with OSMC on Rpi2, and second was changing the HQ scaling on the MOJO in SPMC. On OSMC I notice I do seem to have a duff file, one in particular that first got me worried, but I was still getting some judder with other files. As for HQ scaling, my Google Fu reveals the usual recommended setting is 20% rather than the default 0%. But after playing with it, I've put it right up to 70% and this seriously seems to have helped. I'll keep playing and see how it works across different files. It's such a shame that Android doesn't switch the display mode like Linux does on demand.
I don't think it's the fault of Remix any more tbh. I'm pretty sure I can get this right. But there's a lot of trial and error and I have a lot of varying content to cater for. However if all else fails I will indeed give CM 12.1 another go. Unless there's going to be a CM 13 soon....
Again, thanks for your help.
I think first I'd try swapping the dongle and the HDD, see if the USB3 port does it. Next another USB cable, is the HDD USB3 compliant? If so make sure the cable is also.
I wouldn't count on any more development happening for the MOJO. Aside from Mad Catz, there has been only one developer working on it, and I haven't seen any posts from him lately. CM makes it as easy as humanly possible to port their ROM to any given machine, and they publish a guide for it, so next time I have a few months off I might try to aquire that skill. But don't hold your breath.
The HDD is USB2 only. I'm going to try a shorter cable I think, if I can find one in my cupboard, but I'm hoping I've fixed it in the settings for now. I hope so anyway as I really like Remix OS and don't want to change.
No, I don't have any expectation of any further development really. I just remember UJD talking about the possibility of CM13 but that was some time ago. To be honest though if there was never another made for the MOJO, it wouldn't upset me very much. We already have three or four brilliant options on 5.1.1 that are a huge step up from the stock rom. I consider myself very spoilt for choice.

Nexus 7 To Replace Head Unit

Good afternoon,
So after seeing a bunch of videos and out of boredom I ordered almost all the pieces to make the switch. Was amazed by how simple it was until I noticed that the OTG cable was not supported by the Nexus 7? And that to my understanding I would have to root and install a custom rom in order to do this?
Well I did some research and found timurs rom and installed it. Well noticed gapps wasn't installed. Went to install gapps then I spent an entire Saturday trying to get it to work with no avail. I'm not skilled in this line of work. Alot of the articles I'm finding are from 2012 -14.
Just wanna make sure I'm making the right steps not sure if there has been a new way of doing this or possibly an easier method? Would greatly appreciate it if someone could assist with this.
I would love to have GAPPS on which ever ROM will give me the requirements to install the Nexus as my head unit. Im just not entirely sure how to get it to work proplery. I apologize for my lack of knowledge in advance.
List of parts
-nexus 7 (wifi)
-radio harness
-otg
-usb hub
-dac (behringer UCA222)
As well as some other misc items such has a volume knob, just awaiting the Amplifier.
Thank you for your time, hopefully someone can help me with this :good:
So from what I've gathered Autodroid is the newest rom, just downloaded it. Will be giving it a shot tonight. If someone could help me with Google apps and installing it on there that would be awesome!!!

For Autodroid, look for Slim-Addons-mini_gapps.4.4.4.build.9-20150107.zip from Here.
I had issues with OTG+Charging with Autodroid, but the more i have been tweaking and trying different things, I think the high temperatures were what caused the tablet not to charge. Monitoring the battery, I have noticed when the temp is over say 110* F, it will not charge, but will hold the charge and not drain the battery. The lower the temp gets the faster it starts charging.
I would suggest not converting to F2FS if you plan to use OTG. I could not get it to work properly.
I'm currently running LineageOS 14.1 with Powereventmanager 1.8 installed. This has been working well for me the last week or so, but some issues have me wanting to go back to Autodroid. One issue i've noticed lately with LineageOS is the sound quality doesn't seem as good as Autodroid. It sounds decent for my factory system, but what bugs me is the volume control is not sensitive enough, its either way too loud or too quiet. There may be ways to fix this though, as i have not had time to research a fix. I dont run a DAC, I run my tablet via bluetooth to a headunit hid behind the tablet, so you may not have this issue.
Another issue i have is with PowerEventManager. It will put the tablet to deep sleep, but usually not the first time i turn the ignition off. I have to turn the ignition back on then off, then it will trigger powereventmanger. No big deal, but is a pain since i have to constantly make sure it does go to sleep.
You can also add the volume control buttons to the nav bar through the "buttons" setting. You can add media controls too. This works well for the most part, but there are times the icons disappear, though the control is still functional. I think this issue is caused by my icon size, but not 100% sure.

Hey thanks for the response!!
I ended up getting timurs rom to work. I attempted to go with Autodroid but it would never load up. Attempted timurs rom and it worked and figured I'd try gapps and finally it worked perfect and I have no issues now.
Now I'm trying to find the best method to incorporate Bluetooth to the car. I'm replacing my entire head unit with the tablet. I wanna be able to play music from my phone and have it come out of the cars speakers.
Any suggestion on that?

Autodroid, you have to flash the kangaroo kernel after you flash the rom. there are people that say you have to flash a version of SlimKat and dirty flash Autodroid over it, but i never had to do this.
Check out HeadUnit Reloaded. it is an Android Auto clone. allows you to make a receive calls, stream music from your phone. There is a 5 minute trial, so make sure you have everything set up before you give it a try.
I've been debating on switching to a DAC, just so i can have better volume control. Something about using software buttons for control is just a pain. I've also thought of hard wiring my removable face from the head unit to somewhere it is accessible, but not sure i want to go through the trouble.
Have you thought of just using the phone as a hotspot and using your tablet for everything else? This is what i do and it saves me from having to fidget with my phone all the time.
Another tip for you, though i dont know what DPI Timurs rom is set at, but on AutoDroid I always increased the DPI to make things on screen larger and easier to control, since it is in a vehicle. I believe i had mine set at 230..
I'll be switching back to Autodroid this evening. the bugs i encounter using LineageOS have just been too much to deal with. Worked great for awhile, just need something more stable and worry free.

I have thought about being able to supply a hot spot with my note 5. I found ways of getting around it without rooting it but those have seemed to be disabled. Still hoping to come across a simple way of doing it without paying for it or rooting the phone since I'm currently on the "lease program". I plan to keep the phone once I'm finished paying on it so I believe I should have an issue. I just don't wanna end up screwed if for some reason I have to turn it in and I get hit with a large fee since it's rooted.
I will definitely look into that app, can it be connected thru Bluetooth or just wifi? If wifi I will have to wait until I figure out how to make my phone wifi tethering enabled.
Also I though of an idea, I have found the Bluetooth devices for everyday car stereos. Box with usb to charge and an aux to plug into the car audio. My Dac has an input and an output. I'm currently not using the input since it's all thru usb. I'm wondering if I can hook up the $20 Bluetooth piece and then aquire a female 3.5 aux cable to make rca and hook that up to the input on the dac.

I'm not sure about Bluetooth with Headunit reloaded... you can use USB. To be able to make and receive calls, you have to have it connected to a "Bluetooth headset" according to their page, but i think this is just for phone calls.. I could be wrong though. I've been curious if my head unit would act as a "headset" since my tablet is connected through Bluetooth...
One day I will buy the app and play with it more, I'm just cheap
About your DAC, I dont see why that wouldn't work. I've read of people using stand alone Bluetooth adapters with their DAC. But like i said before I dont know anything first hand when it comes to DAC's.
