So a lot of people and myself over on the Nexus 6P subreddit have been discussing about the possibility of some sort of battery drain with the arrival of the Feb patch. On any ROM/kernel combination (and even on stock at some point), my phone very easily reaches 4:45-5:00 of screen time throughout a day that is from 7am-10pm for me. Over the last month, it has progressively gotten worse, on some days reaching low levels with just 3:30 SoT. After using various ROMs, I decided to try out bone stock to see if I would get the same result (this was 3 days ago). And that has been the case... The phone barely reaches 4 hours of screen time.
Well you might suggest: "Disable services such as location and sync" or "What apps have you recently installed that could be causing drains?" And that's the thing. My usage patterns have not changed at all. I barely download new apps and always stick to using the same ones. Today my location was off for a very long time and I've still gotten the same battery. I've been keeping my eye on the awake bar on battery info, and the phone sleeps as it should, so I'm sure there aren't any rogue apps.
I am seeing this as well. I actually went back to stock to see if it was the ROM I was using. Seeing the same battery degradation on stock. Running MMB29Q with Feb security patch as you can see from screen shot. Wonder if Google is aware of this. Cannot be a coincidence.

Haven't noticed this at all, I'm getting the exact same battery performance as I always have.
I haven't noticed any extra battery drain either.
I definitely noticed this myself.
I did a factory reset and it seems to have helped, but I've only tested it for one day since.

I'm with you. Same battery as previous factory image.

I have bought this phone in the beginning of February and my battery experience is TERRIBLE. It drained 20% battery in 16h with 17 mins SOT. I'm extremely disappointed in this device. I tried Stock, chroma and Pure Nexus and even when 0 apps are installed my battery goes AWOL. Really this is a nightmare where I paid alot of money for this phone and it acts like a personal energy waste device.

1.2%/hr drain isn't great, but not bad either depending on reception/installed-apps/notification/etc
I'm running 6.0.1 feb patch. Get about 0.6%/hr screenoff drain, but I'm mostly on good wifi connection. If running around town on LTE i'd get some where around 1% screen off drain.
I've noticed that ever since the Feb security patch, the battery has drained a little faster than usual also, with no change in usage behavior.... Can someone please notify google about this?
I have not noticed anything different.
Running stock with ElementalX kernel.
I've been noticing the same thing. I used to be able to go for 4+hrs of screen on. Now, 3.5 is normal. I am on PureNexus, but I've not changed anything in the last month, after the update.
I bought the phone on 28th February. 30 minutes after arrive at home, flashed Cyanogen, and draining about 1% each minute with screen on.
Yesterday I flashed PureNexus and now reaches 3.5 hours with screen on. Way better, but still terrible.
I've noticed the same increased battery drain. I've been investigating the issue for weeks and didn't know what caused the issue until hitting this thread.
The February update introduced the SystemUpdateService wakelock on my 6P. It kept the phone awake 95% of the time and I couldn't get rid of it. I updated via fastboot with the factory images at the time. I flashed back to the January build and the wakelock disappeared. Flashed the February update again and SystemUpdateService wakelock came right back.
I didn't try a clean install with the February factory images to see if it would fix it. Maybe it would have, maybe not. I decided to give Pure Nexus a try after I couldn't fix it. I'm considering doing a clean install once the March update is released.

Same battery issues as described for me.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one having a problem all of a sudden. I am running stock, but was about to root and run a custom ROM after becoming frustrated with the suddenly increased battery drain. I used to drop only three or 4% overnight, but now it is about 20%, with Google App being a prime user of battery even without OK Google being activated. Doze does not seem to be working as it did before. I am going to try shutting off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at night to see if that makes a difference, but it never seemed to matter before leaving those on. Also, I do not see a way to automatically turn off push mail service at night or on a specific schedule as I could do with previous phones.
I'm glad. I thought I was the only one experiencing this.

Interesting - I have noticed that the battery life has tanked on my 5X fairly recently (been using it for a few weeks - will try on the 6P next).
Presumed it was just a rogue app or something, although nothing seems to be causing excessive wake locks etc. It is hard to quantify though, so it could just be looking for a problem where there isn't one.
I'm doing a clean install on my Nexus 6P from the March security update factory images, should be able to see if the battery life I'm getting is similar to January as I have a fair idea of what percentage my phone was usually down to at the end of the day.
A clean install of 6.0.1 with Feb patch and only stock apps. It's been sitting on my bed since a full charge 5 days ago. Looks like the Feb patch is not having much of an impact on battery life.

I had been having great battery life the first couple of weeks with the Nexus 6P when I first got it, but now I am have major issues with doze and very very low screen on time.
I find that my phone does something weird instead of doze... I was wondering if anyone can provide some insight to this issue. I do not have any social media apps installed and I am trying to make do without crippling Google Now and Location Services :/
Here are some examples of what has happened as of today morning.
http://imgur.com/a/ze0hL
I have already gone ahead and done a factory reset of the device to alleviate any issues, and slowly adding back my applications. I added the last new app on Monday evening and Tuesday I continued to have GREAT battery life with 4.5H SoT over 24H off the charger without pristine signal, either, which is great! However, the following day (with no changes, apps/accounts added/removed) the battery life has become utter garbage.
On the attached pics I had even restarted before taking it off of the charger, so I have no clue what could be the problem. also from 12 (midnight) onwards, I was asleep until taking these screenshots at 645AM at which point I had gone from ~70% to 25% in 7 hours which, in my opinion, is horrible considering the great signal that I had.
Any suggestions and/or help is appreciated! Only thing is that I have to keep the device fully stock due to work reasons.
Hi guys,
It's the first day of running Android 7.0, upgraded last night, off the charger at 10 AM. Now it's 2:40 in the evening and I have 28% left with 2h30m SOT till now, so I guess a ~3H SOT till the phone turns off. I find this pretty bad.
Are you experiencing the same problems? What's your first day SOT with N?
LOL!! give it time breh...... give your phone and kernel a few cycles to see how things go. Maybe report back on the weekend. That should be enough time for it to adjust to your usage
This helps me:
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Make a factory reset (save your files)
3. Setup your N6P
4. Enjoy
I am experiencing low battery life too. But that was the case on Marshmallow too until I installed the ElementalX kernel. It's an impressive kernel for sure, even when I installed it plain, without any customization of my own when it asks when installing it.
Looking to go back to elemental but only after giving Nougat's update and its kernel few more days to showcase its ability. Finger crossed!
Perhaps it's user/expectation error, OP. Give it time or do some maintenance wipes. I've been using the previews and battery life is very similar to MM, if not improved.

I also experiencing battery issue here. previously when using MM, i got > 4 hours SOT. but after upgrading to 7.0, i only get about 3 hours SOT. when I see the battery settings, the Android System is consuming more battery than the screen. I never had experience like this in MM
do you guys also have the Android System consuming much battery?
I got 4 hours and 8 mins. SOT with battery remaining at 15%. This is with sync and high accuracy location switched on. I also played 1 hours and 15 mins of NBA Live during this period. That said this is using black pepper v2 profile on stock kernel.
So for me it's not bad, though a few more cycles would be ideal to give a concrete evaluation of battery life. Doze does seem to kick in a lot more now, and phone is really deep sleeping when on standby so I think the results are promising.
I did a search and could not find anything useful. I downgraded from beta to N 7.0 and despite better battery life, I have this really annoying experience with my phone. I have ticked the battery saver option on with low battery on, and as soon as the yellow bars appear to show 15% battery, it suddenly starts shut down process and then refuses to power on again until connected to charger.
That is cheating in my opinion, since I always assume I have 15% battery left.
Any solutions or thoughts as to why this happens?
If it's cutting out at 15% and you know it's not software it seems like it would be the battery. I deal with phone repairs on a daily basis and I see this a lot.
Same exact thing is happening it me. I thought it was a 7.1 bug, but it's just happening now and I've had 7.1 since day one and have gone below 15% many times.

Mine began doing it when I upgraded to 7.1 as well. It's a known issue and I don't know if there is a fix.
Here is the main thread where some "fixes" are posted - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/phone-dies-15-time-figure-issue-t3482597
This actually happened since quite a while ago, but only until today could I experiment with the issue, so I figured I'll just post it here and see if anyone know what's going on.
I'm a prominent CyanogenMod user, and although CM for N6P had been slightly buggy, I enjoy its customization and battery life. However, starting from sometime in summer or autumn of 2016, the battery life takes a dramatic dive. Before I had ElementalX limiting the frequency to 1.5GHz+1.2GHz, and it could do 5~6 hours of SOT consistently. After the unknown incident happened, even making 4 is hard as heck. It eats ~20% battery overnight. Since I'm at school and need the phone for day-to-day use heavily, I had to bear with it until today...
Here's the details after today's experiments:
AccuBattery shows 2~3% drain per hour, consistent with my coarse observation. However, the app says there's no wakelock or background apps.
The phone has not been dropped more than 3 times, and as I remember none of the drops happened around the time when battery life starts degrading. This most likely rules out hardware damage.
All ROMs, be it new or old, AOSP-based or CM-based, exhibit this issue. I traced back to older builds of AOSP and Slim, same deal. Traced back to as early as April's factory image (because I suspected it might be the vendor image causing the problem), flashed them clean, same deal. Latest Nougat factory image (N4F26J), same deal. Lineage OS 14.1, same deal.
No user apps installed; ROMs have different system apps, but the slimmest among them (Slim) still has it.
Any help would be welcome!
My Nexus 6P is experiencing "slow charging" after April 7.1.2 Update (OTA).
I am using stock Nexus 6P charger, which now shows "charging rapidly" on lockscreen with 5 hours estimated time of full charge but is charging 18-20% in 1 hour.
Anyone else having this issue?
Tried rebooting, no effect. Any other fix?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ne...t/xthermal-mod-fast-charging-cpu-gpu-t3433784 worked on the latest beta, didn't flash update yet
Same here on my Nexus 5x with slow charging. I also got excessive battery usage by the Android os and Android system. They doubled on battery consumption after the ota update. Driving me nuts. I lost at least 3-4 hours of battery time with this update. What used to be plenty of juice now barely gets me through the day. I tried wiping the cache partition restarting and so forth. I am about to flash back to 7.1.1 but can't justify the burden just yet.

Have you done a backup followed by a full wipe if it happens again? Could also be a misbehaving app

I haven't tried that but if i decide to go down that route, i will probably downgrade back to 7.1.1 while i'm at it.
Slow charging happens pretty frequently, i can say around 7 out of 10 charges. Haven't properly tested yet but seems to happen when charging at battery levels below 10% or so. I usually do not go this low on battery but thanks to the recent update this became a daily thing. I wonder if the frequent deep cycles will degrade the battery faster.
The android system and android os spends 14% and 11% battery respectively on every cycle. Both the battery drain and slow charge started immediately after the 7.1.2 OTA update. I haven't updated my wife's X5 due to this bug and her's is behaving as usual, spending 8% and 6% for the same android system and os.
The reason for the excessive battery usage is that Google is defaulting the kernel to very high performance settings. They eat up the battery and make the phone run warmer and if you aren't rooted and can't flash a custom kernel there's not much you can do about it. I think Google is trying to burn out these phones. I can't think of a legitimate reason they would run the kernel settings so high.
