So here's the deal, I got myself a gorgeous new 6P 2 weeks ago, I went through the initial set-up and everything worked as intended. I set up my fingerprints (both index finders, 1 each) and finished the set-up.
This is where it all went horribly wrong, showing of my new phone to a friend, the fingerprint unlock didn't work. I removed all prints, and tried to scan my index finger(s) again. For some reason the phone was unable to read my prints. As in, it didn't do anything, I get to the screen where you're told to tap your finger, but no matter what I do, tap, push, slide. It doesn't work, I've literally tried all my fingers and had some friends try it to no avail.
So it's defect, let's send it back you say? So did I, reset the phone, tried one more time to set-up my fingerprints before returning it, but this time it wouldn't work in the initial set-up either.
A few days later the vendor calls me and tells me the phone is working absolutely fine and they're returning it to me. Today I receive the same device, and go through the set-up again. Miraculously, the fingerprint scanner worked, I got through the setup, did the same things I did two weeks earlier and bam, same problem.
After numerous resets, both through android and through recovery, I can not get my fingerprints scanned anymore.
My question then is twofold, one: how did the vendor reset my phone which caused it to scan my prints during set-up (is there another way to reset your droid?) and two: Seeing as my phone and the scanner seemingly work, but randomly stop working, am I doing something wrong or is it the device?
Thanks an awful lot in advance, I'm really happy with the phone, but it's such a let down that the fingerprint scanner isn't functioning as it should.

I'm not too familiar with the phones anatomy, but perhaps there is a loose or frail connection inside the phone.

I would also suspect a connection issue but this phone is a nightmare to open. It´s not really something you might want to do, except if you´re a crazy person

Yea, not planning on that, perhaps someone has a more hopeful reason for my issue, else I'll be returning it after the weekend and hopefully receive a working device.
Thanks!
I would recommend to return it for a new phone. I've seen several reports on the Google Help forum regarding the scanner. Nothing worked leaving only RMA or swap as solution.

So this started happening only 2 days after getting my G2. Basically my phone reboots randomly whenever I unlock the lock screen. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that it really bugs me and I'm considering factory reset, but I dont want to lose my info and have the reboots still continue

**Yes I am also getting random reboots when unlocking the screen. At first I thought it had to do with the lock screen type I used or the lock screen pattern but it is still happening now that I'm using a pin to unlock my phone. I am completely stock and got the phone the day it came out.
The reboot happened a couple times within a few minutes and seems very random upon unlocking the screen. If others are experiencing this I highly suggest posting here.
I came from the LG G2X and that phone had a similar issue involving random reboots but was definitely fixed by LG eventually. My Asus Transformer Prime had a random reboot issue as well and eventually fixed.

Got my G2 5 days ago and have had at least 3 random reboots or shut off reboots the the last three days.
Today 4 times reboot when unlocking with Code unlock.
Actually considering returning the product.
did you try uninstalling some of the stuff you installed? One by one?
Did you try factory reset?
Stock everything?

I don't really have anything crazy intensive on my phone but it's worth a shot.
As of today I have had several reboots when unlocking the screen. This occurs whether I have the lock screen active or not.
I am considering returning the phone too if this keeps happening. I'm absolutely sick and tired of defects/bugs (whatever you want to call them) like these plaguing my devices.
all it takes is bad install of apps, wacked permissions and what have you.
Eliminate all software possibilities before you blame your phone m8 .
nope completely stock
this just started happening to me today, no idea why... I haven't installed any new apps lately. is it a problem with my phone? you think swapping it out will fix the problem?

lol factory reset and wait few hours, dont restore backups and stuff, that eliminates about everything!
whats left, bad rom, but at that point warrantee
I have stock lg g2 doing same thing. A hard reset didn't work and I have only basic apps that came on phone. However I have been able to turn off lock screen and so far no reboots (yet). T-Mobile has given me a runaround about getting it replaced. Still inside my buyers remorse,I have finally gotten a supervisor to give me a new phone. Tmobile supervisor confirmed lg g2 having a lot of issues. So that said I'm saying goodbye to lg g2, going with something else. Tmobile finally took care of me after being on hold for 5hrs and talking to countless people! Lg g2 has issues but T-Mobile has major issues and that's being really polite!!!

i exchanged it
i went in to tmobile last night to exchange my phone. it took two hours because of a some $1.12 price difference but they eventually got it to work with some trickery. i'm a very patient person anyway.
literally while i was typing this response i was going to say i didn't have the random reboot but JUST F'ING NOW it happened again. I'm immediately doing a factory reset and UNFORTUNATELY and using the phone without instalilng a damn thing. hopefully i can get some idea of what the problem is before my 14 day return window is up or else this phone is going back as much as i hate to say it.
I had a similar problem with my phone while trying to unlock it. Once it started rebooting, it would go into an almost endless cycle of reboots. Sometimes as much as 20 reboots in a row.
I had tmobile exchange the phone for me. No issues since with the replacement. I do definitely think there is a bad batch of G2s out there.

Let me start off by saying I'm a jeweler and am used to looking for stress cracks developing inside of stones, well I found this issue with 2 LG G2s.
I am on my third G2, not because of rebooting but because the sapphire glass that covers the camera starts developing micro cracks running across the lense, has happened twice now, I had it in one of those windowed cases, they suck don't bother, no protection. Anyways, had this issue with the transformer tf201, microcracks develop along edge, then bang, giant crack from corner to corner, no mis use needed, was just bad design. These microcracks are all internal, no breaking the surface.
The way you find them is get light to reflect off of the glass covering the camera, now slowly roll the phone side to side and back and forth, now look for lines reflecting light back at you. If you see those exchange the phone, they will eventually grow, like a windshield crack, and feacture ruining the camera optics.
Hope no one else has this issue, oh and this third LG G2 came with the Isis sim in the box, unlike my first 2, I'm in chicago.
VZW
Clean Rom 1.0. No problems or reboots. I have had the phone for about 2 weeks.
Picked up the phone day 1, no issues at all. Fantastic device!
The recent update to gmail was the culprit for me. I started getting the reboots immediately after the update. I uninstalled updates in app settings this morning and haven't gotten a reboot in 12 hours. Maybe it's an issue with the gmail lockscreeen widget after the update? I'm on the verizon g2.
same rebooting issue here for my TMO version. thought it was my lockscreen widget from nils, but then it consisted after i took it off, and still consisted after i factory reset it. so I exchanged the device and got a new one.. same day I got it, it started rebooting again. thinking about just returning but its such a good phone, sad if it has to come down to it.
Simple as this. Random 'reboots are bad. If it's uprooted, exchange it. If it's rooted, use a diff Rom or figure out what you did. One random reboot is enough for me to go ape **** lol. My gnexus did it once and I was back at the store that day.

update
quick update. since exchanging the G2 for another G2 I have not had any random reboots. I did take into account the advice from a previous post on this topic that his gmail update may been the catalyst for the reboots. I waited to update gmail until a few minutes ago so we'll see how it goes.
So I am at work and my 6P had to have just rebooted itself over 25 times in a row. It would go to the lock screen and then repeat. I finally got it to stay off for a few minutes then turned it on and its working again....
9/10x its a rogue app. without a logcat, its difficult to determine the root cause. usually advice comes as, start over, don't install apps, pick and choose a few, etc.
Nexus 6P random reboots
My 6P has acted that badly but it has restarted/shut off a couple times since last Thursday when it arrived. Is this a software issue? Like is it a glitch in Marsh mellow (due to marsh mellow being new it could be possible of some bugs, but this is a major big if it is one) or an app causing it to act poorly? Thinking of doing a factory reset...
*Background info - I took it to Verizon when I got it and put in the nano sim but since the lady there skipped over the set up portion I factory reset it and set it up again just to make sure nothing was missed (unneeded I know lol) but I wouldn't think that would cause a problem.
Seems maybe tmo? Every time it would reboot the signal showed LTE with am exclamation point. Now I'm getting the same text 5 times.
(only found one thread with this issue, from nov 2015, with zero replies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/wifi-issue-nexus-6p-t3244411)
So, let's go.
Nexus 6P Android N Oct 5th, Build NBD90X here.
Bought on 4/10/2016, one week ago, in Germany, after Pixel announcement (too expensive).
Manufacturing date: 11/17/2015 (bit old, maybe refurbished?)
Behaviour: At first, connects normally to WiFi. Connection stable for a bit, so it is not a reoccuring "it reconnects every 60 seconds and can't hold the connection" thing, it is very different.
In following situations it drops Wifi:
- When screen goes off for more than 1-2 minutes
- when I cast something (YouTube, Twitch) to my Chromecast and the Nexus screen turns off after 60 seconds, the Cast continues, but when I wake up the phone, Youtube or the other apps say connection lost, so I can no longer control the stream. I tap "retry" but it does not work and I have to restart phone, reconnect to Chromecast and stop the cast that way. Super annoying.
- And, not often but happens: even when i scroll through Twitter, it randomly disconnects and reconnects after about 10-20 seconds.
Things I have tried:
- different APs and Networks (home, at work, at a friend's house)
- changed Wifi channel, 2.4, 5ghz, .. basically just tested every setting here at home. since problem occurs also at work and other networks, can't be the cause.
- wiped system cache, nothing
- reset network settings on phone, several times, nothing
- WPS, nothing
- under "Location", advanced, disabled the WiFi and Bluetooth scanning stuff
- switched from "always" to "only when plugged in" at "stay connected to wifi" setting. changed behavior to: not reconnecting to WiFi when woken up. Instead, it finds all networks BUT the one it remembers and should connect to. I have to turn wifi on and off, even that does not help sometimes. then I have to reboot.
- maybe some measures I even forgot about now, but basically everything ever, anywhere, recommended...
- eventually I factory reset the device on sunday, started with "set up as new device" from scratch, wasted another few hours to eventually have the same result.
I used all my data plan because "Android System" downloaded so much in the background in the first night (when it should have been in Wifi of course), have to turn cellular data off now to not pay for extra megabytes (germany..).
so I don't get any updates or push mails anymore because mobile data off and it drops Wifi all the time. this is unbearable.
Same router with my previous Desire HD, LG G3 and Nexus 5X: all with no problems.
My big question is: is this a software issue that will be resolved or do I have a defect device? I need to know fast because I have 14 days return time at my reseller and 7 are gone, 4 of them I tried to fix the problem. The old manufacturing date made me questioning the device in general. So is this software-related and will be fixed or should I RMA my device?
I also posted this on the android forums: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=206311 (look at the very helpful answer by the developer xD ... )
Having the exact same issue since updating to NBD90X last Wednesday. So glad I finally found someone else is having g this issue. Has to be software, right?
I made a new issue report on code.google.com (issue 224971). Please report back if you find a solution, my data plan is wrecked already.
EDIT: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth just powered off while I was browsing XDA in chrome. So it happens randomly, not just when phone is at idle. This is really bad!
the same issue after update NBD90X
Same.

Please add your experience to the code.google.com page listed above (issue 224971) so they can see it's not just one or two people.
So, any news on this issue? If it's only three people in the world, i will return my phone on monday and ask for a replacement. Still in 14days-return-policy timeframe.
Although this looks like a software issue, waaay too few people are reporting that issue to justify keeping the device.
Annoying as f'ck but better safe than sorry. Hopefully the replacement will be of a newer manufacturing date without any issues.
Firstly, this is weird lol, I bought my 6P in August of this year and my manufacturing date is exactly the same as yours.
Though I bought mine from an authorized retailer, I doubt it'd be refurbished, anyway, I did a clean flash of NBD90X and everything is working well for me. No issues whatsoever aside from the slightly crappy battery on Nougat.

Did you clean flash the NBD90X factory image or take an OTA?
Hi,
I got it from a pretty big vendor here in Germany, pretty solid, 6000+ reviews with a 1,5 (1 best, 6 worst) rank at our best price comparison site. Ordered a LG G3 back in 2014 there and a Lenovo Thinkpad for my gf, everything perfect.
No, I got it, it had Marshmallow, then I had to install two security updates before it reached the "preparing for 7.0" update (20mb or sth.), then I got N and then, one day later, D90X appeared.
But I did a factory reset after having the issues.
You think I should try a clean flashing of the NBD90X? I thought I tried everything, but actually doing that didn't come up in my mind.
/edit: Did your packaging come with the papersleeve around the white plastic, where the S/N and the big P logo is printed on etc.? Cause my packaging was missing that. Only the plastic with transparent tape to hold it together. That is actually the only reason why I thought about "refurbished" because everything else looked completely new, no fingerprints, MM 6.0, etc. But it made me wary from the very beginning.
I just did it and wiped again, installed from scratch. Factory Image NBD90X... as clean as it gets.
After going through all the steps and wasting another chunck of time, it took 5 minutes until the first disconnect. While screen was on, while downloading stuff from the Play Store.
I am so annoyed by this phone, can't even tell. Two weeks of troubleshooting, nothing worked.
My connectivity just dropped dramatically. Had been on NBD90X since about 10/11. Our other does not exhibit this problem, both are almost set up the same. I then set mine up exactly like hers and still connected in kilobytes. Project Fi said they would send a refurb and I'm not excited over that. I've got 24 hrs to decide now. If it takes an hour or to to download an update that the other phone can do in a minute I guess mine is a lemon. Doc I just posted several places about this and my troubles started about the same time as yours. Also just installed the factory image and there's no improvement here.
Thanks for your report. Got myself a replacement device 10 days ago, no trouble since then. The old one went back and I got my money back.
Def something wrong with the WiFi chip or whatever.
Loving the phone now, 7.1.1 runs smooth af.

Cool. Glad yours works now. I went ahead and ordered the replacement, I'll scrutinize that refurbished unit when I get it. Being the weekend it won't ship `till Monday. Didn't realize how much I depended on this darn phone until mine quit working right!
Well if it helps just one, I post this.
Our power went out for `bout an hour. Later I was still frustrated with the 6P and started messing with it, damn it was fast again. Went to sites immediately, went to the playstore and tried to get an app that I had given up on getting earlier and ~10Mb was downloaded and installed in 4 or 5 seconds!!
I hadn't even tried using the phone when I was out the last couple of days. That plus the fact that my Asus OnHub was down, it probably lost it's cache. Kept the settings but damn I'm gonna unplug it for a min or two the first of each month now!
Cancelled the replacement..... nothin-to-see-here-move-along........
Hi
I got my 6p about 4 days ago brand new, and upgraded to 7.1.1 wifi was fine and then went to 7.1.2 and wifi seemed fine for couple days while I installed apps and such I wanted
while I waited on a case to arrive, turned it on yday and my wifi connects then disconnects, sometimes it doesn't see wifi networks.. I tried to wipe cache no difference also
tried safe mode and nope.
Also tried to factory reset couple times and well it didn't change anything. Not sure what else to try, I tried shutting off my router for while.. Only thing I can think of is to send it back
unless someone has a idea.
thx.

Hello,
You can try flashing a 7.1.1 factory image to see if problem persists. If yes, it's likely a hardware issue...
Good luck...
You mentioned waiting for a case to arrive. Just to be clear you are having this problem with no case on the phone, correct? You can go into settings / Google / Networking and see if WiFi Assistant is ticked. Change the setting to whatever is the opposite of what it's set at and see if that makes any difference.
Same issue. Huawei had me send in my phone to repair it and I got it back yesterday. Wifi still broken and when I called them up today they want me to send it back AGAIN!

That is correct, I hate using my phone without a case. rather not break it to soon bad luck and all.. I'd hate to have to send it back before even using it lol..
It seems better since I unlocked the bootloader and the phone reset itself again. Don't think I had a drop in wifi yet. Still testing tho..

My Nexus 6P is doing the exact same thing and I think its something to do with several 7.1.1 updates and 7.1.2 update. Because wifi was fine until it updated like 5 times.

You can always try clearing the system cache and seeing if that helps. It probably won't but it's always worth a try. You can also go into WiFi Assistant under settings / Google / Networking and tick the opposite of whatever its currently set at and see if that makes any difference.
I went ahead and RMA'd my phone hopefully I can get a decent replacement. wifi start going weird again in couple days and phone would randomly reboot doing nothing and sometimes staying on the android logo
while booting. What a pain so far..
Welp my phone finally arrived back futuretel replaced the Motherboard and a component doesn't say what and factory reset the device.
Been 2 days now with no drops in wifi or anything.. Hopefully no more problems. All in all took about 2 weeks and that is with 2 holidays
so not bad..
Hi
With help from this forum I upgraded my Chinese Axon 7 to Build A2017V3.0.0B17 back in the autumn. It's now on Build A2017V3.0.0B23. I think it did that update a month or so back.
Anyway for some weeks, which I don't think coincided with the update (but it may have done), I have apps freezing on startup. E.g. Uber splash screen comes up and sometimes it goes to the next (white) screen before it freezes, and sometimes not. In Chrome I have a number of tabs, sometimes it starts properly and opens them all and sometimes it freezes before it's opened them. (With Chrome , if I keep closing it down and restarting eventually it works). There are lots of apps like this, although there are also lots which are still working OK.
So last night I took the plunge and set it back to factory. Iv'e been reluctant to do this because I am on such a steep learning curve on rebuilding phones and I wasn't sure what it might do.
The outcome was that it reset just fine, still on B23, and so I started putting back my apps. Only to find I still have the issue.
So... should I put it back to B17 and see what happens, or can anyone advise anything else to look at before I do?
Thanks
Oh well, over the weekend I took the plunge. I used EDL method to put on A2017G onto my A2017 phone. It took a couple of attempts, and I think I have one or two outstanding gremlins, but by and large the phone seems at least as good as before. I need to check out making and receiving calls - tested it once with my partner and all was fine but a later call seemed to conncct but nothing heard by me. Using it as a phone is a small part if it's existence but it's important.
I have got back some of the Google stuff which didn't work after the last update, like Timeline.
However I don't seem able to get back into FTM mode or to get my PC to recognise the phone any more (except as a disk device) so I guess next time round I'll have to splash out on a new phone...
