none, as long as your rooted android pay will not work. if you want it to work you will need unrooted stock

This is incorrect. Many of us are having no problems with Pure Nexus, systemless root and the chmod fix.

Having no issues with Chroma Rom. AP works without issue using the permissions workaround.
Thanks for the replies, I may try resurrection rom soon. I'll report back if it works...

I'm not confident, but I think it at least requires an AOSP base without CMTE. I tried setting up Pure Nexus CMTE edition and couldn't get AP working, but I set up Pure Nexus Layer edition and it works no problems (with chmod workaround of course).
So good luck. If you try, let us know how it turns out.
Pure Nexus (Not the cmte version), Elemental Kernel. Root.

Hi all,
I've been running Omni, but I just upgraded to a nexus 5. What would be an ideal rom that doesn't need to be updated regularly and I can install franco's kernel on before giving it to her?
Thank you

I think that the best rom to give to her is stock kit-kat. The reason is that it doesn't need to be updated much and if it does it will do it automatically. Also if she has a problem she can take it to a phone shop or ask google without the rom being a problem.
Thats just my opinion though.
Yeah, what's wrong with stock?

Stock. Not rooted. Unless you live with her and are willing to deal with any issues she may have. Custom ROM's, while great, aren't always complete and are meant for those that understand that there are some "bugs". The stock ROM at least will be easy to update.
My other half has a nexus 4 as well. She is a woman so you get the idea.
She is super happy with the stock rooted jellybean. It is rooted just because I didn't want her to click on ads and buy shoes from dodgy sellers. Adaway was the solution for me.

4 people all in agreement! Awesome result.

Hi all, I recently bought this device and am in love with it.
I really want to get into rooting and customize the heck out of it but I also really love Android Pay. I've heard of the Magisk way to root, but I was wondering how much of an effect it would have on the mods I'd want to try out.
For example, I want to somehow get DT2W working on this device, but obviously that requires root and maybe a custom recovery.
My question is, if I use Magisk will that somehow mess with my DT2W mod (or any of my other mods for that matter) when I try to use Android Pay?
TIA!

Magisk is literally the flock of a switch so it should matter much about going from root to unroot. Just keep rooted and then when pay is needed, flock the switch in magisk. You can even program an NFC tag to do it for you using Tasker or other program.

Awesome thanks! But if I installed a custom kernel, would that be able to pass through Google's SafetyNet checks?

Works for me with the ElementalX kernel. Obviously YMMV but it seems like it should work.

Thanks! So this is probably a very basic question but does this mean that SafetyNet will not be tripped if I have an unlocked boot loader?
Do you have a MasterCard? If so see if you can just use Master Pass. Im Rooted with Xposed and it works on there.

Just checked out master pass. Unfortunately it only supports a few banks and none of the major ones.

It shouldn't as long as you turn off root using Magisk before using Android Pay. I've opened Android Pay a couple times by accident while root enabled and it would automatically delete my credit card.
Hey gang. Good to see you all. Been around the way for a while and decided to come to the 6p Instead of paying too much for a pixel and I personally like to stay out of contract for the discount on my plan.
Just looking for verification... Can I use wugs to root and unlock and or Heisenberg post? I am on 7.1.1 nmf26f.
Also can anyone tell me the best choice for a pretty stock debloated ROM with good kernel combo. I have read so many things and yes I know it is all about preference etc. Just looking for some quick suggestions so I can try and do this all when I get in from work.
Thanks in advance. Happy New Year to All.

Hi!
I am on stock ROM N4F26J with TWRP and Franco Kernel. Everything is running very fine and smooth.
I also rooted to run apps that need it.

Heisenberg post guide works a treat. Also, Cortex, Nitrogen, Tupaks, etc. are good rom starting points...

Welcome. You should first consider updating to the latest build, which would be N4F26J for Verizon. Depending on your level of experience, you can use either NRT or the Heisenberg post. Obviously, the toolkit is faster with less chance for mistakes, but at some point you're going to need and use ADB. Recommend you do keep the bootloader unlocked permanently so that you retain the ability to use ADB/NRT at any time. Don't worry about the persistent nag warning at boot about locking your bootloader- that is normal. Since you are about to factory reset your device to unlock, this is the time you should also consider whether you want the default data encryption, or wish to run unencrypted. I also recommend you install FlashFire as one of your first root apps and learn how to use it. I currently have 3 Nexus devices which are stock, rooted and use EX Kernel. Best of luck to you.
I'd also suggest using Heisenberg's guide. For ROM and kernel combo I highly recommend Pure Nexus and EX or Flash kernel.

Hi, I am currently running stock 7.1.1 on my Nexus 6P, I love Android pay. I use it nearly every day. With CM14 on my previous phone I could not use it. Do you know if there is a workaround for it? Or should I just stick with stock

The normal workaround people use involves using Magisk, Phil's SuperSU and a compatible kernel. If you do I search through the ROM threads you should find lots of posts regarding how people got Android Pay to work on their rooted phones.

I've seen those, haven't seen it with the new Lineage OS. With the rooted stock ROM on my m9 it worked but not with a custom ROM. So would it be the same with Lineage?

I know people are using it successfully on Pure Nexus, Megapixel Rom and Cortex Rom. If Lineage has built in Super user like it's predecessor you would need to turn that off because you need to be rooted with Phil's.

Yes I did, I'm running the latest Lineage OS 14.1 Rooted and use Android Pay with my BOA card.
Edit: I could not get stock kernel to work, had to use ElementalX Kernel.

I am pretty sure nothing works anymore. As long as the bootloader is unlocked, then you are screwed. This is the exact reason we need a root option without unlocking bootloader..
My X compact is on its way!
Do you guys recommend rooting or keeping stock?
Important to me would be smooth performance, battery and camera.
Thank you

I recommend rooting the stock!
there is not actually many custom roms for this phone, and stock rom is really good if you just root it

Paranoid Android team recently added official support for x compact, but I don't know if they have a stable version yet.
You can't get better than rooted stock, custom ROMS always seem to have issues that prevent them from being a full daily driver.

The usual, debloat, new fonts, theme the system, couple of build.prop edits and that's about it for me.
My 2 cent.
Stock ROM is very good. You *could* root to debloat, but I have preferred to just deactivate the useless app (which are on the /system partition, so that you won't get a real advantage in removing them).
At the moment I don't see a big thing in rooting the device. On the other side, you could loose some interesting feature (e.g., vodafone wallet, or some home banking functions)..
Enjoy your Xc!

I actually did not change anything except for some build.prop changes
Stock rom is very good as is, I just recommended root so you can use some apps like greenify :good::good:
A very good thing about Xperia devices is the camera, and with a custom rom the camera app is always lacking (unless they can use/steal the stock camera app?)
Otherwise, I don't care about any other Sony apps.
Rooted stock is very good though I'm happy.
If PA has good camera and I can pass safety net, I might switch one day.
Thanks all! I'll look into build prop, to be honest not sure what this does

I'm in the same boat. Went from a rooted Z1 Compact to the X compact. It seems so tedious to root the X Compact so I haven't done it yet. However I can say I am missing having root, missing Titanium backup etc. We'll see how we go. Hoping for someone to release a guide to root nougat without having to go back to MM.
Mine came with N loaded. It is international version.
I've yet to try it out extensively.

Don't get too hung up on build.prop mods as a lot of them don't work anymore if they even did in the first place. The only two entries I have in mine are...
Code:
persist.adb.notify=0
fw.show_multiuserui=0
