Android pay lineage os? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am currently running stock 7.1.1 on my Nexus 6P, I love Android pay. I use it nearly every day. With CM14 on my previous phone I could not use it. Do you know if there is a workaround for it? Or should I just stick with stock

The normal workaround people use involves using Magisk, Phil's SuperSU and a compatible kernel. If you do I search through the ROM threads you should find lots of posts regarding how people got Android Pay to work on their rooted phones.

I've seen those, haven't seen it with the new Lineage OS. With the rooted stock ROM on my m9 it worked but not with a custom ROM. So would it be the same with Lineage?

I know people are using it successfully on Pure Nexus, Megapixel Rom and Cortex Rom. If Lineage has built in Super user like it's predecessor you would need to turn that off because you need to be rooted with Phil's.

Did you have any luck with this?

Yes I did, I'm running the latest Lineage OS 14.1 Rooted and use Android Pay with my BOA card.
Edit: I could not get stock kernel to work, had to use ElementalX Kernel.

I am pretty sure nothing works anymore. As long as the bootloader is unlocked, then you are screwed. This is the exact reason we need a root option without unlocking bootloader..

Any ROM without root?

So, long story short my mum had an iPhone 5, and she wanted a larger phone. The 6 and 6 Plus were way too expensive, so I said to get the Note 4. She loved it, at first. She then started to get more and more angry at it, since TouchWiz crashed often. So I said I'd custom ROM it, after all, I had done the same to my step dad's S5, he's pleased now. BUT, CM12 nightlies aren't exactly stable, and she gets crashing and stuff. Plus, she wants to be able to use her banking app, since it blocks phones with root. It works fine on my OnePlus One with Paranoid Android. Is there any kind of ROM for the Note 4, any PA ROM, any ROM without root? And no, I'm not putting it back on a TouchWiz based ROM.
How can you have a rom without root? You've already rooted it to put a custom rom on it.
Anyways I'm on TeKXodus 5.01 rom right now and its WAY better than stock. Check out his thread.

You can install a rom and then simply un-root it afterwards. This gives you custom rom without root

The SuperSu Pro app has a Full Unroot feature in the settings. It might be there in the unpaid version too, although there are likely other ways as well.

I see this very often, but it isn't true.
you don't need to root for a custom rom.
on most devices (including the note 4) you need a custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader(it's often unlocked out of the box) for a custom rom.
some device(like gen8 archos devices) even allow custom roms with the official recovery thanks to a developer mode, or they don't have a signature check and just let you flash custom roms through an official updating utility(such as the old advent vega which accepted custom roms flashed through nvflash)

Best Kernel for Stock (Non-Rooted)

I used to be an avid ROM flasher, changing ROMs daily on my old Moto X. Now that I'm using Android Pay religiously I need to keep my phone non-rooted, but would still like to run a custom kernel. I have been looking at FrancoKernel and ElementalX (sp?), but not sure what is best for the stock ROM without any tweaking (as most kernel tweaking apps need root). What's the community think?

Franco kernel
Flash it forget it
Cheers
I would also say Franco...
Never used Franco so I cannot comment on it. I use ElementalX, stock, rooted and it works awesome.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Got Franco's kernel flashed with TWRP as recovery and everything else stock. Can already see battery life improvement, can't wait to see how it compares in the long run.
I hate using Franco Kernel.
For some reason everytime I use it I get more battery life then I should, and everything works faster than stock. I don't plug in my phone more than I have to. It's just the worst kernel out there if you want low OST and crashes.
Didn't think that you can replace boot.img on an uprooted phone.

I'm rooted with custom ROM and systemless root and Android Pay works 100%. Can add cards and pay at terminals without issue.
Just a little FYI.

Can we change the kernel if not rooted? If yes, can you share the procedure?

Root has nothing to do with the ability to install a kernel. All that's required is TWRP recovery, which in turn requires an unlocked bootloader.

What Roms is everyone running?

What ROM's are people running on their Verizon LG V20? Im getting ready to root mine and go through that process. Looking over the ROM's though and they seem to be lacking. Back in the day we had tons of options, now we have a handful on XDA. Are there ROM's people are running that arent listed?
Using the LineageOS weekly builds and they've been pretty good. Mostly just missing out on the second screen though.

That's true for anything. Just going out on a limb here, I'm guessing since we are in the LG V20 forum its safe to assume we are using that device.
Next time come prepared with proof of your claim. With no proof and bold claims you sound like a fool.
as Android goes further the ROM field is super small now KK had the biggest amount of ROMS not a lot of this model I have this version too we have RR DU is coming down the line Lineage WETA AOKP Here is a list of ROMS https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=search&s=us996&type=files

I have a vs995 and I'm running XOSP ?

The Verizon build of not so stock is probably what you're looking for. Stock based so everything works minus all the bloat. Has static at boot, search some of the other kernels, there is a few that fix static at boot.

BroeknOs to be
Currently I'm running stock OS on LightningZap! kernel (still in beta, but looking like I'll have a release soon).
I have gotten BrokenOs running quite well and smoothly. But lacking the second screen is what's holding me back.
On LG V20 AT&T (H910), btw...

Quick Question

So I am on H91810q and I have kept root through the upgrades. Am I still able to flash another rom like LineageOS or am I stuck with stock since I upgraded so far?
Try it -- it isn't going to break your phone
Probably isn't going to run to well on new firmware though. Most of the heavy development was done on much older firmware, and those parts haven't been updated.

I'm thinking a TWRP Full Backup of the stock rom and wipe and flash LineageOS. In theory do you think I would be able to restore stock if something doesn't go right?
Yes. When you install LOS or a LOS based ROM the only thing that gets flashed is boot and system. Both of those are backed up by TWRP.

Nope, you can't downgrade. Unless someone picks up development on current firmware, you can only use stock.

I know this isn't a custom rom but you're like me and on rooted Q, I use to not enjoy stock due to not being able to customize the phone how I liked but the instabilities in the camera and bluetooth and battery life made me appreciate the stock/stock based roms for the V20 and I actually PREFER a fully functional camera nd awesome audio recorder than inferior apps. But! Askermk2000's kernel is COMPATIBLE with rooted 10q, I am using it and it has honestly breathed new life into my phome for sure and since we don't have many rom options at the moment at least throw this kernel on your stock 10q rom and enjoy it! Should I install custom rom?

Hi there. I am kinda new on these things.
I am at my home right now. I have the time to backup everything.
I am on stock right now , I have started getting a bit of lags here and there.
Should I root and install a custom rom?
And if yes , what is the best combination of kernel and rom for the best performance and battery.

DO NOT INSTALL CUSTOM ROM, if you have to ask that question.
On a serious note, a factory reset will take care of all lags.Rooting is for those who have a spare phone, want to play around and can afford brick sooner or later. Moto has determined stock to be best for all others.

But this moto g5 plus is a nice phone. That's why I'm asking whether i should install custom rom or not

Acknowledged !! and my apologies.
Rooting and custom roms work well on MotoG+.On some of the latest Oreo roms I was playing around with in the past couple of months, the camera app broke more often than once.If you can live with that in exchange for performance, LineageOS 15 and Pixel Experience roms worked great.
But as with any phone, you have to play around for the best of latest or for stability.
Just my two cents .

What about the battery life?
Can i use greenify etc with these roms?
Thanks for the reply
Install only if a stock firmware higher or equivalent to your current version is available. Else you will not be able to go back to stock. If you attempt to downgrade you will run into problems with bootloaders.

Battery life is pretty good on the custom rom side. All updated ROMs are now Android 8.1 and are 64 bit. I usually get 6-7+ hours screen on time and switch between every rom that's released For battery and customizations I recommend AEX or Validius. Also, you can use greenify on any of the custom ROMs and root with magisk and pass safety net as well. I Also recommend you download from telegram group as those links are updated more often than xda.
Telegram links are:
t.me/g5pluslinks ---> All new ROMs released no chat
t.me/motog5plus ---> Release of new ROMs / kernels but lot of chat too.
t.me/MotoG5PlusStuff ---> Collection of all kinds of camera apps.

I believe that using custom kernel was the fix to that issue, not 100% sure as I never had the issue myself. Also, if you decide to go to a custom rom you won't have that issue (it only affects stock rom). Another option if you want to stick on stock is find the thread on here for TWRP flashable stock ROMs and use latest one for your phone.
I'm not able to select SD card storage in the recovery mode. What's the issue here? How do I fix it?
