So I bought a Note 4 online, when I started tooling around with it I noticed a whole slew of strange problems, which I believe stem from a firmware/hardware mismatch
1. when I attempt to factory reset the phone it goes into recovery mode and says DM verity authentication failed.
2. the phone is stuck on 5.0.1 which, as it is SUPPOSED to be an SM-N910F, should have been updated ages ago. when I check for an update It says it is up to date even though it is not. the return message also comes too fast almost as though it is not really checking...
3. I used an app called Phone Info + to get more info but the info retrieved does not match what the About Device page in settings says says
Here are screenshots of the about device page under settings

It's american note 4 don't update at least with officiel rom or you will lost gsm network and you'll have to pay to u lock it on ligne smoe people imports american variant and chinese because it's cheapest there and change there origines allways do this before buying a used or in grey market even most of them are refurbishednew and come in boxes like new ones go to download mode to be sure *exuse my english*

Edline08, me too! I just purchased a new Note 4 but apparently it isn't new. Looks refurbished to me as there is a mismatch between various parts. And it has the exact same info as provided by Son of Kalas - the model, the build fingerprint, etc.
Son of Kalas can you please let us know if you figured out which firmware to use? I need to flash the phone since it has glitches. Thank you!
Same issue here.. Son of Kalas can you feedback on how you got it solved...

Dont worry for that and simply go to recovery and wipe cache and data (listen, this to be done on GB only)

You can safely flash any firmware from your region.

If you get them through XDA it's nearly always listed in the post itself.
If you get them directly from Sammobile or Samsung-Updates, you'll have to do a bit of Googling first. The local Samsung website has the internal memory size listed.
The 64GB edition doesn't exist. So it'll either be 32GB or 16GB. If I recall correctly, the 16GB edition is only available in Asia.

All right. Could you tell me what's the latest PDA for 32 GB model? I am on the UAE NJ2 one and the Changelist no. is 1955971, while for the Hong Kong ROM the no. is 3031078. So I suppose the latter is more updated? But unfortunately it can't be flashed on my phone as it is meant for 16 GB models while mine is 32 GB! So what can I do here? I just want to have the latest stock ROM, that's all.
PS : Also I see that some features are missing from my current ROM. Like I was seeing YouTube videos and found that under S Pen Direct Input Settings there is a tutorial called Gesture Guide, but in my ROM there is no such option like that! Yet I want that tutorial so badly!

Changelists are entirely useless. they're non-sequential and every region uses different numbering systems. Even the lads at Samsung have given up on keeping track of them, the numbers are only there for internal administrative use. (Particularly since there's no public changelist available anyway. )
The quickest way to determine how recent the firmware is, is to look at the last three digits of the PDA number. The ones we use to describe it. You're on NJ2, which means your firmware is from:
N = 2014, (M = 2013, N = 2014)
J = Oktober, (A= Jan, B= Feb, C = Mar, etc) (This is the Build date, not the release date!)
2 = revision 2. (Which means this is the second version of that month, most of which are kept in the company and don't ever see the light of day.)
The Hong Kong version is NJ1, so they're from the same period. The Hong Kong one is actually older.
Another option is to look at the builddate directly, which you can find on Sammobile as well:
The Hong Kong version is: Build date: Fri, 17 Oct 2014 09:37:06 +0000
The UAE version is: Build date: Tue, 28 Oct 2014 12:20:40 +0000
Mind you, the modem and CSC on the HK variant are newer, but those only apply to the local networks.
Missing features vary per ROM. For instance, the German firmware doesn't support homescreen rotation, and before they removed it from Android completely, also didn't support lockscreen shortcuts without a bypass. The firmware in many EU countries doesn't support silent shutter because of the privacy laws. Many US firmwares miss several options in the Call Settings and Mobile Networks menu.
I also do not have that tutorial. The only one in Direct Pen Input is the Handwriting tutorial for me.
I do, however, have this list under Help (app) > A-Z (top right) > Direct Pen Input > Handwriting Gestures:

Your initial information is rather confusing. Enter download mode and provide me with the model number located there. If, however, it is what I suspect, you'll want to get your money back from the seller as quickly as possible.

Fantastic. That clears up the confusion as to what phone you have, as download mode does not lie. Unfortunately, your issue sounds more like a hardware issue than software, in that the SIM card tray may have failed. Have you tried a SIM card from a different carrier in the device? What is the result when you do so?
Yes i have changed sim card and phone acts the same, i have changed battery and still the same.
But when phone is connected to charger, its working better, but very often it lose network
Some new facts:
sometimes phone freezes (without sim card) after reboot, when first locked screen appears, its unable to unlock phone and then restarts again
Take the phone back to the person who modified it for you and have them service it, as it's readily apparent, at least to me, that you have a hardware issue here, not software.
I have contacted with seller and i can send it back to service... but service is in singapore so it will probably take 2 months to get it back to me

--- TLDR - Can't flash stock binary to phone because of SW REV CHECK FAIL, how do I determine the right version or work around? ---
I have a Galaxy S8 that I purchased and it worked for three months and now is blocked on Tmobile. I paid for an unlock and they got back to me saying they can't get an unlock code. Tmobile refuses to unlock it, obviously. Maybe I could try another unlock service and avoid all this?
I did some searching and found a great tutorial at https:/
appuals DOTCOM /carrier-switch-firmware-flash-galaxy-s8-snapdragon/ . which seems to do what I want to do. The gist of it I presume is you flash the stock binary and that will allow you to install the Canadian version which will allow you to unlock it for use on other networks (AT&T) in my case.
I'm having issues installing the stock binary, I get all the steps up to the first flash and the phone says "SW REV CHECK FAIL" when in download mode. I have downloaded several binaries and I can't seem to figure out what version I actually need? I have screenshots of my phones info and I've got Android 8 on SM-G950U with BL vers. 2. The files I'm finding have long names and I don't really know how to decipher them "G950USQU2CRB9_G950UOYN2CRB9_TMB.zip". I can see it's my version and it's on TMB but everything else is over my head.
How do I determine what version I need via my phones about section so I can get past the SW REV check? I have the latest version of Odin as well as a patched one and can't get it to work. My phone isn't bricked so I can keep going from the top. Once I get past this step I plan on continuing with the tutorial I linked to.
What software are you running right now? Under the settings it'll show. That error usually means your trying to downgrade with a rom which won't let you. Crb9 is pretty old and I think it's actually bootloader 2 instead of 3 of I remember right.

And then of course I've got the IMEI and Serial numbers as well. As for my bootloader version, I verified it by the download screen before flashing, however I don't see a specific version. I just read somewhere by the way the restart instructions are written you'll know which version you have?
How are you deciphering the CRB and the bootloader version?

The bootloader is the 5th number from the right. So your on bootloader v5. Need to find a ROM with that version of bootloader.

Thank you, the pic was helpful, so in the firmware file name “G950USQU2CRB9_G950UOYN2CRB9_TMB.zip” I would assume this is vers 2 of the boot loader? Is there an Android version identifier in that file name as well? Sam mobile is down for free users until Friday and some of the other sites don’t have information besides the file name.

Oh that's awesome, glad to have a good free source. So I'm assuming I'm going to be looking in the PDA column correct? So this one is "G950USQS5CRI4" and that looks like BL vers 5 correct?
I'll download this file and see what happens. The original file it wanted me to download is a combination file. Since this is a whole firmware would I be using all the check boxes in Odin? BL, AP, CP, CSC, and USERDATA? One source told me to do all but BL and USERDATA.
