--- TLDR - Can't flash stock binary to phone because of SW REV CHECK FAIL, how do I determine the right version or work around? ---
I have a Galaxy S8 that I purchased and it worked for three months and now is blocked on Tmobile. I paid for an unlock and they got back to me saying they can't get an unlock code. Tmobile refuses to unlock it, obviously. Maybe I could try another unlock service and avoid all this?
I did some searching and found a great tutorial at https:/
appuals DOTCOM /carrier-switch-firmware-flash-galaxy-s8-snapdragon/ . which seems to do what I want to do. The gist of it I presume is you flash the stock binary and that will allow you to install the Canadian version which will allow you to unlock it for use on other networks (AT&T) in my case.
I'm having issues installing the stock binary, I get all the steps up to the first flash and the phone says "SW REV CHECK FAIL" when in download mode. I have downloaded several binaries and I can't seem to figure out what version I actually need? I have screenshots of my phones info and I've got Android 8 on SM-G950U with BL vers. 2. The files I'm finding have long names and I don't really know how to decipher them "G950USQU2CRB9_G950UOYN2CRB9_TMB.zip". I can see it's my version and it's on TMB but everything else is over my head.
How do I determine what version I need via my phones about section so I can get past the SW REV check? I have the latest version of Odin as well as a patched one and can't get it to work. My phone isn't bricked so I can keep going from the top. Once I get past this step I plan on continuing with the tutorial I linked to.
What software are you running right now? Under the settings it'll show. That error usually means your trying to downgrade with a rom which won't let you. Crb9 is pretty old and I think it's actually bootloader 2 instead of 3 of I remember right.

And then of course I've got the IMEI and Serial numbers as well. As for my bootloader version, I verified it by the download screen before flashing, however I don't see a specific version. I just read somewhere by the way the restart instructions are written you'll know which version you have?
How are you deciphering the CRB and the bootloader version?

The bootloader is the 5th number from the right. So your on bootloader v5. Need to find a ROM with that version of bootloader.

Thank you, the pic was helpful, so in the firmware file name “G950USQU2CRB9_G950UOYN2CRB9_TMB.zip” I would assume this is vers 2 of the boot loader? Is there an Android version identifier in that file name as well? Sam mobile is down for free users until Friday and some of the other sites don’t have information besides the file name.

Oh that's awesome, glad to have a good free source. So I'm assuming I'm going to be looking in the PDA column correct? So this one is "G950USQS5CRI4" and that looks like BL vers 5 correct?
I'll download this file and see what happens. The original file it wanted me to download is a combination file. Since this is a whole firmware would I be using all the check boxes in Odin? BL, AP, CP, CSC, and USERDATA? One source told me to do all but BL and USERDATA.

So I bought a Note 4 online, when I started tooling around with it I noticed a whole slew of strange problems, which I believe stem from a firmware/hardware mismatch
1. when I attempt to factory reset the phone it goes into recovery mode and says DM verity authentication failed.
2. the phone is stuck on 5.0.1 which, as it is SUPPOSED to be an SM-N910F, should have been updated ages ago. when I check for an update It says it is up to date even though it is not. the return message also comes too fast almost as though it is not really checking...
3. I used an app called Phone Info + to get more info but the info retrieved does not match what the About Device page in settings says says
Here are screenshots of the about device page under settings

Edline08, me too! I just purchased a new Note 4 but apparently it isn't new. Looks refurbished to me as there is a mismatch between various parts. And it has the exact same info as provided by Son of Kalas - the model, the build fingerprint, etc.
Son of Kalas can you please let us know if you figured out which firmware to use? I need to flash the phone since it has glitches. Thank you!
Same issue here.. Son of Kalas can you feedback on how you got it solved...
I have just bought a V20 from an Ebay seller.
It comes with Android 7.0 and it says that there are no newer versions to download.
However, my security patch level seems quite old being December last year.
The SW version details are as follows:
Android Version - 7.0
Android Security Patch Level - 1 December 2016
Kernel Version - 3.18.31
Build Number - NRD90M
Software Version - V10c-TWN-XX
Does anyone else in the UK with a V20 have more up to date software and if so how did you get it?

So do all TWN phones have a security patch from December 2016?
Do other variants of the phone have later patches?
Go here -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903
Download the following firmware -
H990ds10e_OPEN_SG_DS_OP_0314.kdz
Follow instructions in OP and when in LGUP select Update.
You'll have newer firmware with security patch at 1 March 2017.
And use search function, this has been answered already.

Thanks for that.
I had seen that link but I had no idea if that would install a later version of software than I already have.
Just so I understand - why does my phone say that it is up-to-date if there is a later version of the firmware on LGs web site? (Where does the V20 check for firmware revisions?)
You're welcome. I was also supplied the link by another user, that's one of the great things about XDA and the members here.
Because a lot of us TWN variant owners don't live in the region the phone was released in we won't get OTA updates.
That's just how LG operates. I find it ridiculous that they release variants for different regions with different specs, hardware etc..
How do they come to the conclusion that the V20 will not be released in the UK and Europe?
People of some countries prefer 64GB but others will be happy with 32GB????
Wireless charging only for some?
Then there's the bootloader unlock farce........
This phone is really awesome and root would make it even more the perfect phone for me. But I knew what the situation was before I got it, and I'm still happy I own it.

Because the updated firmware is NOT meant for your branded TWN V20. It will work but you will not get any upcoming updates anymore. You will have to that maually.
Hi Pierre.
You're absolutely correct, but updating to where we are now is better than no update at all don't ya think?
And it's easy now to check for and install future updates :good:

Hi, you are absolutely right about that. And I think it's pretty safe to switch firmware. it's quite easy with LGUP. But maybe LG will surprise us the coming weeks with a fresh new TWN update
And a bootloader unlock too?
That would be awesome, I'm already missing all the stuff I was able to accomplish on my Z2.
H990DS can be flashed to same model firmware of other regions. My TWN H990ds had flashed to Philippines V10g and working without any problem , only two pop-up message after every system restart , but it didn't affect to any function..
Base on the hardware of H990ds is similar to H990n (HongKong) , I tried to flash to V10h(H990n) and it is working as well.
Both version's performance are better than TWN-V10c , i think it's worth to upgrade.

Please define "official"
It causes no harm
I can't define because I wrote "original" thread...NOT "official" thread.
It is a big difference between original and official.
Anyway, you are right.
Cheers.
Have you noticed downloading lag (eg. when checking for software update using thrid party software or downloading updates through google play?)? I mean the download progress bar is not filling. You just wait and suddenly after a while it say app is updated. In addition there is serious battery drain compared to oreo. Beta 2 is out to try now.
There is a lot happening in the Original post.

Because the original thread is in S8 group, there's nothing like this in S8+ group. I just want to make it easier for everyone else to find the link.
And I didn't steal anything to be fair, I didn't say the link was mine, I said there's an original thread and included the source right at top of my thread.
Take it easy, cheers.

You have to be on CRL3 (latest Oreo for BTU) to install the beta. Not CRLB, not CRLI, not ABCD, but CRL3.
Copy the update.zip on the SD Card, boot into recovery (Bixby, Vol+, Power), update from SD, select the zip and wait. That's all.

Lovely, all working here. Actually preferred Samsung Experience UI to One UI if I'm honest...

CSC: G955FOXM4CRL1
S8 plus from Dubai UAE
Hello all.
I have: G955FXXS4CRLB
Which is newset that CRL3
When I try to update Beta1 it fails with error:
error in sideload package.zip status 7
Is it caused by soft version or is it caused by some other problem?
Can I load CRL3(older version) by Odin and then try to install Beta1?
Best Regards.
---EDIT---
Ok, So I did it, I have flashed CRL3 version via Odin, then ----> Beta1--->Beta2 and all is working fine!!!
So if you have same issue as me you can do it safely.
BR!
hello everyone here.
its posible to downgrade galaxy a40
FROM 10 to 9 pie?
thanks
i have try with ODIN but no lucky
says FAIL/
You need Odin , the multipart ROM and the PIT file for Android 9.
I've tried to rollback to 9 with odin and suceeded. I used frija to get android 9 rom for my CSC, and it normally downgraded it, without issues.
Can I downgrade knox from android 10 to 9 without triggering it? and when I downgrade it, can I replace the csc with a csc that supports call log? Thanks. (Google translate used)
does this work
is it possible to downgrade?

Hi,
I have tried for 2 days to get my Galaxy A40 ( A405FN ) from 10 to 9.
I used Odin 1.14.4 and SAMSUNG USB Driver v1.7.23.
I'm trying to flash this rom here (XEF) A405FNXXU1ASC3 from March 2019, 9/Pie. I got it from samfrew.com
I have tried recovery mode, to apply update from SD card, but I got a
E: Footer is wrong, Signature berification failed.
I have tried to upload only the AP file, I got an error after the recovery.img file
calinorg, can you be a little bit more specific about your environment?
Thank you so much for helping
It was couple of months ago, I don't really remember the versions of files back then... But I've read on telegram groups that September 2020 update disables downgrading. I've since returned that phone and got another a40 that I haven't tried to downgrade (beauty of having a workplace provided phone - you trip knox and complain phone doesn't work, and get another one )

Hi. Where can I find the PIT file?
And by multipart ROM you mean the firmware zip file downloaded from one of those samfirm websites right?
And how does one downgrade from Android 10 to Android 9 once all those required files are acquired? Can you please give a step by step tutorial? Thanks!

Did you manage to do it? Could you expand a little?
Did you use
multidisabler
Disable_Dm-Verity
GSI_MTP_Enabler
How can we remove that check on the flash rom?
Thank for you help
working .... finally
this is the way i did it.
I found out about the BIT version of the ROM in that post,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...FZ4MZ5_zT3cBAKVUg5jbgGftA-d5J-3AbpA&nocache=1
So my original rom is 3BIT
A405FNXXU3BTD4 XEF 2020 05 13 BIT 3 V10 Q original phone
_________^
And I have downloaded a few V9, one was BIT 3 Too.
A405FNXXU3ATA4 XEF 2020 01 15 BIT 3 V 9 Pie
_________^
The earliest verson i had, that I was always trying was BIT 1
A405FNXXU1ASC3 XEF 2019 03 07 BIT 1 V 9 Pie
_________^
So The bit version of the ROM you want to flash must be equal or above your actual bit version in my case 3
So, i was doing some reasearch on BIT version, I found this post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
and in that post there is a version of a 3B, of Odin. Odin V3.13.1_3B .. so i may as well try it.
And it worked... miracle Android version 9!!
I have changes to so many variable... magisk installed, twrp installed, multidisabler
I don't know if those had an influence
Dont hesitate to correct my misunderstandings....

Also worked for me downgrading from A405FNXXS3BTI3 to A405FNXXU3ATA4 - your tip on the bitcodes and patched version of Odin got me pointed in the right direction.
I didn't have Magisk, TWRP or Multidisabler installed, nothing - I was on stock 10 FW (UK, EE) and needed to get back to 9.
Lets try to get to 8 !!
Do you remember the time when getting the last android was so geekely cool. Today we just wonder what other freedom are they going to take away from us.
I'm using Call Recorder Pro that wont work on 10, at all. On 9 its working but it wont associate the number and the recording. So on the recording you just have the time stamp.
Now, on 8 (my huawai P10Lite), it records and put the contact name or number in the filename..... which is awesome.
That thing is so useful, remembering things, share conversations, work on communication strategy, sales, job search, and I have no memory...
So, I'm thinking.... lets go 8 on the A40 ... )
I am very happy that I was able to downgrade to android 9.
Android 10 is a joke. In android 10 you can't even mount system as read/write even with root! This is a new 'security feature' of android 10 called shared_blocks
Nevermind. There actually is a solution to the read only filesystem problem in Android 10 and newer.
See solution below:
Works like a charm in Android 10 and later (on my new Xiaomi device). Now my system, vendor and product partitions are read-write!
Use at your own risk!
note: I have not tested this on Samsung devices yet!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/script-mount-system-as-read-write-android-10.4240703/

There's no android 8 for Samsung A40, and if you want native call recording you need root for that, no other way.
Few days ago. SamFirm, Frija have error when getting Samsung Firmware. Tool return error 200/401
P/s: Frija have an update to fix it now
I am just a technician but I using SamFirm everyday for my project

More check version source for new models
... and more if you have any suggest
And I put a small link to my website if you want to download older version or download direct with IDM and max speed. My website is free to use. So do not worry!

Hey, Amazing work there, i used the tool and works fine. I just wanted to post something to bring this thread to people's notice. Thanks for your hard work.
This is a good tool to use (Frija is good too). If you manage to keep this updated as and when Samsung changes things on their side this can get popular too. Thanks for the work.

I tried to install but after unzipping it - when I attempted to run it, an error message sdaid something about not having the correct path or authorization to run....not sure what I am doing wrong? I do have the Microsoft stuff installed that you mentioned - and have never had an issue with older versions of Samfirm....let me know what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks
I tried to run it, what are you supposed to put in the Region field?
Tried with SM-986U (Note 20 Ultra), and the usual suspects for USA (TMB, SPR, VZW, USC) all came back not found.
EDIT: Also tried with SM-N986u and SM-N981U , no dice. Got "authorization failed" there, which is weird.
Awesome work. Many thanks. I have been trying to make frija work since 2 months to no success. Finally this worked as intended.
