Hi There
Strictly speaking this is a Q&A post - so ensure you post in the right forum next time as this is for NAND ROM development
Still, let's try and get you sorted...
Depending on your ROM, it will either be Root enabled or in the case of some older ROMs, not (eg Cotulla's 30 Dec build).
To root that kind of ROM, you can install Z4Root and you should be good to go.
I have posted a bit more information about setting up Root, SetCPU etc here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896620
Have fun!
Post this question in the thread from the ROM you have installed.
sent from my HTC HD2 NAND ANDROID using XDA App
Thanks the Z4 mod worked a treat, and apologies for posting in the wrong section..
As always thank you for the quick response.

[Q] Language issue?! please help..

Hi,
I really need an Arabic support to my milestone 2 device. I've searched the net for a solution with no result, it might be due to the fact that milestone 2 hasn't been officially released in the middle east!!
I'm quite sure it's possible because milestone 1, Defy and Atrix users have had a solution for this issue, then why not me?
Please guys any help would be appreciated, I'm fed up with this!
I'm running the latest firmware 2.2.2
Thanks in advance!.

search this forum. somebody else has asked a similar question needing arabic support. if im not mistaken there is no arabic support. the only way will be to write one yourself. as i said, search the forum and you will find ur answer
EDIT: there's a reason a thread has been created for general questions. had you looked through that thread there wouldnt be a need to create a new thread on this. refer to this thread for your answer.

We would have all languages if we would have a Cyanogenmod ROM but we haven't at this moment. You can eventually install More Locale app from market, and add your locale. After that you will get your language in all apps that support it.

I did search the forum and couldn't find an answer!
I did submit a question in General question thread and couldn't find an answer!
and in the original post you said yourself:
"DO NOT START A THREAD UNNECESSARILY unless you cant find an answer in this thread"
So I believe nothing wrong with this thread!

Just install the "More Locale" app from the Android Market, and add your (Arabic) locale in this app. After that all installed apps will recognize your system locale as the Arabic and automatically will be translated to this language if support it. Just try and see results.
agent008my, mkmck or anyone can help, if you could guide me through this?
I've found this generic Arabic files for android 2.2 & 2.3
but I don't know if I can apply them to milestone 2 and how? because I'm no expert in milestone 2 firmware, especially that Arabic is shown in my device but the problem is that it's not connected letters, so there is a little hope here
here is the link please check it out:

the steps to the link there is pretty straight forward. you have to make sure your phone is rooted though. to root your phone, check through the android development section of this MS2 forum and you should be able to root your phone then. read carefully, and then read again before you attempt a root. once rooted, download root explorer or something similar and you should be able to follow the steps in that blog pretty easily
edit: you should be able to search through all the extension files stated (right from checking if your ROM is deodexed to modding the system/framework extensions) in that blog after you have rooted your phone via root explorer or similar
always always perform a nandroid backup before you start rooting your phone or installing the patch. you can learn more about nandroid backups and similar android terminology and rooting through these threads:

I installed Root explorer and before rooting I've explored the Framework. I found a framework with odex extension which make it not suitable for the method the guy mentioned.
So my question here, is deodexing the rom a possible thing for a basic user (I've read it's a complicated method), or do you advice me not to do it? -to be able to apply the files-
Thanks very much!.

to be very honest with you, here is my understanding on deodexing:
Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
to be honest i know nothing about deodexing or how difficult it is to carry out. however, i did take the liberty of searching some up for you, and there is a tutorial on this forum about deodexing. its very complete and it should be able to help you.

apparently our man here has tried more locale and it has not worked. hence the reason for this rather drastic method
I finally found a file that worked!
and here's the link for the files in case someone searched for the same problem

Use superuser app to update other apps on your device

Hi guys, do you see hangouts 2..0.122 on play store but the app on your device is still on 1.2.018 and you don't find an update option?
There is a way to update all your apps which are updated in play store but the update is not made available to you.
Unless you have Superuser app which you get once rooting your device using VROOT.
Open Superuser( VROOT's Chinese) app, open settings by clicking on the settings button in the top right corner.
Enable Auto check installed App update and go back.
In the permission tab, click on Upgraded option.
Here you will find list of all the app that you can update update them all or the one you want.
I hate waiting
Though I wouldn't recommend you to keep this Chinese superuser app - security issues as mentioned by @Toledo_JAB.
Thanks mate..
I would like to recommend that if anybody needs to ROOT their device, PLEASE use a way created by one of XDA's own developers.
XDA has concerns about security issues when using VROOT.
The staff is currently in talks with VROOT to remedy these issues.
The issues are with the rooting program, the super user app may be OK. I don't think it was looked at but if it connects to a server somewhere, it may have the same personal information issue.
Thank you for the cooperation in this matter,

Then what's the best way to root the Z1? If VRoot isn't safe, which should I use?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to disappoint you but as of now this is the only way to root z1. Hope some developer comes up with a secure way to root z1 soon.
