You can use your MXPE everywhere in Europe; the only thing won't work is the 800MHz LTE (B20). But it's not problem, 3G is fully functionally and 4G too on B3 and B7.
I went to Italy this summer with note 3 (unlocked) and got a TIM sim. It was pretty cheap around 30 euros in total and came with some data.
My MXPE with Tmobile worldwide roaming data + SMS has been and worked well in Israel, China, Spain, England and Germany.

I'm currently living in Europe (France) but I will be moving to California (San Francisco) in early December. I own a blackstone, which I bought here in France.
How should I expect it to work in San Francisco? From what I understood, I might not enjoy 3G+ ... Is that true?

it will not have 3G service. Only the Tesla model will work with 3G in the states. My touch HD works works vary well in San Fran but it is the ausy model
As stated there is no 3G service.
However, plenty of free WiFi areas.

3G service in available in all major US cities; your phone needs to have the right US 3G bands. for at&t the 850/1900 band is used for 3G, for T-Mobile (i believe) it's 1700/2100.
what he said, so make sure the phone you buy next is North america 3G compatible (850-1900htz 3G). My Blackstone only has 850 htz 3G but I have never had a area where my ATT fuze was 3G and my Touch HD(ausy model) wasn't.

I'm currently in Canada, but I'm from Europe. I noticed Bell is offering Samsung Galaxy S for only 500 CAD without contract (thats 380 euros) which is not much, and I'm really tempted to buy it. The trouble is Bell is CDMA carrier, and europe is GSM. Bells site claims that Galaxy S is "Global Phone" which should mean that it supports european GSM frequences (I Guess). Does anybody know anything about this ? Would this phone work ok in Europe? Would I be able to use GPRS/EDGE/UMTS data connections in Europe?
I was surprised at first but the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell is actually a GSM phone!
I'm reading straight from the box:
EDGE / GPRS / GSM Quad band AND HSPA Tri band (850/1900/2100).
So it rocks in Canada and Europe! On 3G and 2G!
I got mine from Best Buy for $560 (including taxes, still a good deal compared to Europe I think).
And now using a Fido monthly plan without contract ^^

I recon you would get the best answer by asking a sales person in the store.
maybe even get it in writing incase it turns out to be bull****, so you can get a refund by shipping it back or something
3G runs on 850/1900/2100
you might only get the 1900 if you live in Europe
so it will be mostly 2G unless you are in good ares with 1900 signal to get 3G

If your really tricky, you will discover that the bell i9000m is actually a QUAD band gsm/wcdma phone.
850/900/1900/2100 WCDMA, and 850/900/1800/1900 GSM
The extra frequencies have to be enabled in the service menu though. (does not require root)

Yes it will work with any GSM provider worldwide, so long as you SIM unlock it. Todo so, either call T-Mobile if you are a customer, or go online and find a site that SIM does SIM unlocks, such as http://www.htcunlock.com and pay them to do it(around 15USD). And as far as data is concerned, you will get EDGE and GPRS only in Europe with the TMO US HD2 as the 3G bands are different.
Ah good My phone is already unlocked so I'm straight on that front. Going without 3G is no problem, I'm glad it'll work with EDGE.

Correction: the TMOUS HD2 will work on 3G in Europe.
HTC clearly says 1700/2100. 2100 is Band I for Europe. 1700 is Band IV for T-Mobile.

I'm from Portugal, and, next September 20th to October 7th I'm going to travel to the USA (more precisely, NY), and spend a few days in Canada (+/- 5 days). I'm going to use my Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) unlocked.
My question is: Will my Galaxy S work fine with a USA SIM card? If yes, what network do you recommend me to buy during my staying in the USA?
I need to make phone calls there and have Internet access on my mobile. What is the best solution/option?

If these specs for your phone bands are correct, 2G Network (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) 3G Network (HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100)
Then either AT&T or T-Mobile prepaid should work with the phone. You will just need to have the correct APNs to use Data.
You will probably need another SIM card in canada though.

T-Mobile I think has a thing for Canada roaming. It might be worth looking into.
I have an XT1644 and I am going to Greece in September. My carrier (cricket wireless) is able to add international calling and data for a low-cost fee for the time I am over there. My question is, will my phone work on the bands within Greece or will I need to get a new phone for the time I am over there and then switch back? I couldn't find any answers on this while looking on the forums.
and Moto g4 plus on the frequency check website looks like it would work without a problem on 2/3 bands. Is this true?

From what I can tell, your XT1644 should work in Greece Your device has support for LTE 3 and 7 (1800 MHz, 2600 MHz) though is missing LTE band 20 (800 MHz) as you've noted. Seems that most carriers have support for bands 3 and 7 so it looks like you'll get LTE (hopefully a nice signal in the region you're in). Seems that most of the 4G/LTE operators (e.g. Cosmote, Frog, Vodafone and Wind) there have decent coverage of Greece (from their coverage maps).
Well it looks like I read the agreement wrong for Cricket. It is from the US to that country. My phone will work but I will have to get a temporary card from Greece in order for it to work. Any suggestions on that one?
Get a local SIM card like Vodafone. They constantly have deals for new customers, offers for higher data. I think it is something like 20 Euros.
Lack of band 20 is not important, Vodafone in EU have a strong H/H+ (3G) network usually in the rural areas (where LTE 20 might be deployed) and the G4 Plus has all the needed bands for that.
PS: I am returning from Romania now, where with Vodafone and equivalent of $20, by playing with the offers, I had 44GB of data for my vacation. Plus 900 phone minutes with US. In Romania, the 3G speeds where around 19/5 Mbps, on 4G (they don't display LTE) I had speess up to 66/22Mbps.
