Help with finding tether app that hides data usage on sm-g530t - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Friends,
Im not sure if anyone has had success with finding a tether app that hides the data so you can get past t-mobiles 14 gb hotspot limit on their unlimited data plan. If anyone has any input at all on how to do this I would be very appreciative! I've tried using foxfi and the wifi hotspot isnt working neither is the usb tether.....

I figured out a way to Wi-Fi tether successfully on the SMG - 530t1 using the T Mobile firmware. This only works if you have a rooted device.
The first thing that you will have to do is go to the Play Store, and download an application that can convert user apps to system apps.. after that, you will have to look for the application APN manager and install it. Then open the system app mover and move the APN Manager to the system partition. After this, restart your phone. After your phone is restarted, open APN manager, and you will find an apn called T Mobile tethering or something of that sort. Select the check mark next to it, and press on the menu more options or the four dots on the bottom of your screen AND PRESS ON DELETE. After this you can tether without any issues
---------- Post added at 07:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 AM ----------
Do the same to the tmobile apn, and add it again, setting the apn type to
Difalt,supl,dun
And save it and start mobile hotspot

How do I tether on Sprint plan without getting charged?

In the quest for free tethering, I have got many different sources telling me many different techniques. Below are some of these techinques:
***IMPORTANT*** - Before you modify registry settings, make a backup using SPB backup or Sprite Backup. I tried to tether before changing the registry, and my internet got locked out permanently. I had to hard reset my phone because I didn't have a backup. If this happens to you (it will say your vision username and pass are incorrect, no matter what you do) then you can restore your backup and try again. You shouldn't have this issue if you change the registry keys and connect first before attempting to use the internet sharing app.
Here's the registry keys you need to change to hide that you're tethering:
get a registry editor like total commander, and go into
HKLM --> Software --> OEM --> Wmodem
Set every key in there (I think there's 4 IIRC) to zero.
This will disable tethering detection, and then you can actually go into settings --> connections --> Manage Existing Connections (under Sprint),and then change your default connection method to "Phone as Modem" instead of Sprint PCS.
after changing the registry keys and connection settings, you will want to soft reset, and then when your phone boots back up, you need to connect to EVDO by opening internet explorer. Once you are connected, you can close internet explorer, open the internet sharing app, change the connection from sprint pcs to phone as modem and then click 'connect' to start your tethering. It will do the rest by itself.
As a note, using the PAM as the default connection setting will give you a boost in download speeds as well, from what I've seen and what others have reported. Happy tethering!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Now that I look at it, there are three keys to modify... CheckProfile, Multi-NAI, and WModemDUN.
I am thinking that the CheckProfile key allows the phone to check your profile on sprint to see if you have the PAM service.
I think the WModemDUN is disabled by default anyway, and am not sure what it does. But I do know that I can connect all day now using Phone as Modem and tether with no issues and no additional programs to install
______________________________________________________
you need PHM Registry editor found here: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\WModem
and set all the values to 0
ok, so if you disable all 3 then sprint wont see it as tethering then?

if the new rom then use the cab added just unzip it then install it to ur phone...http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30265 here is the link I got if from it u want to read up on it.
-edit-
I forgot to say wait a few mins then do a reset for the settings to take affect.
all you have to do is load the sprint test rom and go into registry to delete the key that says ipsext.dll and tether away all day all long. umm... that is until they see your data usage amounts and cut your account off since there going to start limiting now.....

would you please elaborate on this, i.e. have you read an article somewhere?...?
well yea theres lots of posts on how to do this already....so im not taking any credit but heres what I did. I used the cokemans unlocker and loaded the alltel rom which I didnt like. So then I flashed the sprint test rom, after I did that the internet sharing under the com manager was greyed out or disabled. To fix this I loaded phm registry editor and went here...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Comm/InternetSharing and deleted the value that said ipsext.dll and powered down the vogue. After booting back up my internet connection sharing was now working and not greyed out anymore. Ive seen other posts where the value they deleted was something else besides ipsext.dll but thats what it was on mine anyway. The data capping you can google and see there now capping at 5gig which is alot unless your using it for your only internet.

I have a Sprint Vogue (HTC Touch) and followed the registry path you said and found the value isext.dll not ipsext.dll. Do you think these are the same? After deleting it, the "use phone as modem" showed up in Internet Sharing.
BTW, thanks for the info!
If you go to PPCHaven, register, and go to Premium Content, DHarvey has posted a .cab file for fixing this.
crazy treo 800
I remove the dll in registry setting in internet sharing.
I can't receive phone calls, my internet hangs in 1x mode
and drop off evdo mode even having 5 bars.
anybody
Anybody know how I can fix this without adding back the registry setting.
I still want to tether
I have an mp6900sp vogu100 by sprint, and I can tether (with no consequence so far...) by doing the following:
1. Go to your comm mgr.
2. Turn on internet sharing.
Now comes the tricky part... If you try to connect, it will not let you unless you have a phone as modem plan. So...
3. Go to Menu (bottom right) and select 'Connection Settings'.
4. Select the 'Advanced' tab.
5. press the 'Select Networks' button.
6. Select 'My Isp" for the second drop down menu (private network).
7. Press the 'Edit' button under the second drop down menu (private network).
8. Press and hold down your stylus on the 'Phone as Modem' name until the pop-up menu appears, and select connect.
At this point, you should see a window appear which states the phone is dialing to make connection. If all goes well, it should connect, and all you have to do is go back to the first screen after turning on the internet sharing switch(by pressing 'OK' 3 times I think), and select 'USB' for PC Connection and press the 'connect' button at the bottom lefthand side of the screen. Hook up your usb cable at this time and you should now be tethered to your computer.
I believe you need to have active sync installed in order to create the actual network connection on 'Windows'. Linux machines should connect automatically using the rndis driver.
hope this helps

Webtop tethering with an unlimited plan.

OK I have the tethering working fine without the laptop dock.
Once webtop launched it checks for at&t tethering plan and will not connect to the previous trick.
Anybody got a solution for me? Please?
There's like 40 threads about this, but what I do that seems to work ok is:
1) Create the custom APN using the settings provided on these forums (I don't have a link, just search, they're in about 20 different threads), activate it, reboot the phone.
2) When you launch webtop, it will hang on "Verifying AT&T account status."
3) Open up the APN settings, switch to any of the default APNs, then switch back to your custom one. In 10-15 seconds the popup should go away and you can use firefox without issue.
I have to do this maybe once a day. There's likely a timeout if you're not constantly using it where you have to follow this procedure again.
sorry if I missed it in the search, there were so many on just the regular APN trick that the one I was looking for got lost in the clutter.
Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

Hi guys. Hope someone has an idea. My s4 was unlocked by sprint for my trip to england. Swapped the sim card for an o2 card. Talk and text work. I cannot get data to work. Tried turning it on and off. Rebooted the phone. Enabled mo ile data over mobile network. Enabled data under roaming settings for gsm data. Still nothing. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

If you can get wifi, download tweakker app. It will setup the APNs for you. Let us know if you get the data working.
I tried getting tweakker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker), but it says "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." I have a 3G Nexus 7 as well, so I'm surprised it's not compatible with that nor my Sprint Galaxy S4. Is there a way to get it to install? Am I looking at the wrong app? Or is there another way to change the APN settings on the S4?

Yeah, it won't let me install it either. Weird. Worked on other phones before.
Try the different options under Connections->More Networks->Roaming. Maybe the APN options are buried there somewhere. Also, see if you have "data" checked under "GSM Network" in the roaming section, that might help.
Also, in the screen that shows you the network that you are on or allows you to select a network, make sure the green button is on the host network the SIM is associated with, then press the menu button, it might give you options for the APN.
Dial ##DATA# enter your MSL hit other then LTE APN settings then add your APN.

if you can hook up to wifi dl nova or apex (its just temporaory unless you want to keep it) hold on your home screen till you get the option to add shortcut>activities>settings>APNs this will give you access to add or remove apns at will without having to mess with your msl and sprint tech support.

I have root, and it's still greyed out. It doesn't prompt for root access either. That said, I don't have a GSM SIM in right now, so maybe when I put in a third party SIM it'll be available?
I'm guessing though it requires the MSL to add though, but there's no prompt to put it in either.
EDIT: Actually, I found the exact same APN menu under ##DATA# under Other, LTE APN. However, pressing menu doesn't even have the option to add an APN, and I put my MSL in to edit. I'm hoping it just won't let me add it because I still have the Sprint LTE SIM in.

well my friend im at a loss. the problem is that i am always rooted and even when i got my sgs4 it was rooted in the first 5 minutes of ownership. i know you said you are as well but based off what i saw in your screenies it lookes like your running stock (or something that closly resembles stock) so it may be something in the stock rom thats not allowing you to change your settings. this method is how i have done it since the epic 4g days so i dont know what to tell you. mabey one of the devs here can give you a better workaround or help you unlock that edit menu cause im outta ideas. good luck :s
Sprint Galaxy S4 APNs Are Unchangeable and therefore prohibit international data use.

Update: This is a known issue on the Galaxy S4, primarily from Sprint. They have completely disabled all APN changing and editing I order to disallow data usage on any other network than their local and global roaming networks.
The only known way to fix this is to root your device which will void the warranty, stop OTA updates and software upgrades, and possibly brick your phone.
Or, you could just travel overseas and pay $500-800/ month for Sprints roaming.
And then there's the option of using your Galaxy S4 like a flop phone and just using it for SMS and phone calls.
Because even though Sprint says it's an international smartphone, it's not.. If you like to use data services that is.
Waiting for an update to fix Sprints proprietary obsessions...

Locked Verizon APN Settings

Good Evening All, (In the East Coast anyway)
I have done a lot of searching in XDA and Google and I can't seem to find too much detail aside from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935144
My question is specifically for the Verizon Retail Samsung Galaxy S5. Since we are rooted, is it possible to navigate to where the APN settings are stored so changes can be made to them despite the fact that the OS locks us out of it? I read that if you use a non Verizon SIM card, the APN settings can be altered as needed.
Does anybody know what in the OS prevents us from changing the APN settings or know if there is some kind of way to force the OS to allow us to change the APN settings? My main goal was to edit the "APN Protocol" settings to force it to use IPv4 instead of allowing the network to use either or. Applications such as Opera Max, due to the Kitkat VPN bug, won't work unless the mobile data connection is an IPv4 address.
Edit: May found found my answer / solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ates when the APN settings may be configured?
also need help with this issue i have tried everything
My fix for APN Settings SM-G900V [Verizon Galaxy S5]
Okay guys,
I figured I should post this since I can't find anything thing else online solving this issue.
It took me a couple hours of digging around and teaching myself some basic android stuff but I got APN edit access on my Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V APN settings. First, I wanted access because I switched to straight talk and found I wasn't receiving MMS's. But... Verizon locks access to APN's. I won't tell you the story of how I figured it out, I will just tell you what I did and let you make the decision to do it yourself or not AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1) Your phone must be rooted... look around online and choose your own method- it just needs to be rooted. (can't post a link, sorry)
2) install: Build Prop Editor and APN Settings apps from the App store
-----Build Prop Editor allows you to change system values
-----APN Settings is a menu shortcut that you'll need
3) From another forum, I got this information:
** This forum is written for a different phone (Note3) and so are the codes... but they should work long enough to create an APN...
a)Once [build prop editor] is installed find and open Build Prop Editor
b)Hit the menu button and select Edit
c)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
#Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
d)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen (looks like a floppy disk)
e)Once this is done saving restart the phone
----This part is where it gets weird. Adding the codes in build.prop creates menu issues so you can't navigate to the APN menu
4) open the app that you downloaded in step 2 (APN Settings), that will bypass the menu.
5) determine the APN you need to create and create it (depends on your provider, do some research) (again, can't post url links)
6) go back to build.prop.editor and delete the lines that you added in step 3 and reboot the phone
7) navigate to your APN settings via the menu, the APN you created will not be visible but it will still be there. Select the Verizon APN so you can connect your phone to 3G or 4G data.
8) Try MMS or group texts
That should be it... If you don't get MMS's go through the process again and try another APN (you may have the wrong one) or you can delete all but the factory APN's to return your phone to the way it used to be.
This worked for me and I hope it works for you too.
P.S. sorry this is a bit late in all the forums
Hello. I was able to make all the changes listed above. I am running into a problem when I change the mnc to my provider straight talk. Basically whatever apn I was attempting to modify is deleted, and I run I to the same problem when creating new apns. I can enter a name and change the apn but that's it. If I make any other changes the apn is no longer in my list.
Thanks,

Hey. So I am not too sure why you don't have permissions to edit apn settings. These are the apn settings Iaccessed and used to get it working on mine... then it is hidden when deleting the build prop codes.
Name
APN
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
APN Type
If you don't have access to create a new APN and change those settings following my method, I don't know what to say... Is your phone model a SM-G900V running android 4.4.4? - that's what mine is.
The only other thing I could think is maybe the kernel version when you rooted your phone. I have 3.4.0 and used towelroot and oden to flash it.
Also, I am using Textra as my messaging application and manually configure the APN in those settings to the same one I created.
Hate bumping old threads, but I feel it's relevant in this case. I used the above method to successfully edit the APN and regain internet access and get MMS. However, if I go to Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point names, there are none listed at all. I am not getting 4G signal on my SM-G900V running android 4.4.2.
Is there a way to get the actual vzwinternet apn to appear in that menu?

I have the same problem as you with an LG G4 from Verizon on straighttalk. I had ST fix their end to get my data working. They have the Verizon APN settings saved on their server for your phone but their settings have to match your settings. Since you cannot add/edit your APN they have to delete their settings and let it pull from your phone. Verizon lets them use certain APNs for their side of the network, that is why their settings are different than your phone and why they will strongly ask you to update them (even though you cannot). I found this information out because their APN settings got updated when my service renewed. I'm not sure if this will be a problem on each renew or if Verizon/ST will work that out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 g900v. I am currently using Straight Talk BYOP program. I am having some issues with service and having 3g instead of 4g. It is a 4g capable phone. I think if you search you can find info on XDA about enabling all radios for your phone. if its rooted you can try an apk like signal booster or one of those. They have advanced settings that let you select CDMA/GSM/LTE and prioritize your connection.
If you are rooted you can use coded in the dialer to access those same settings and change your connection prefs.
If I had a link I would share.

I ended up just having to call Straight Talk and they did something on their end that took effect at or around midnight that night. Problem is I had to call them again the following month because after refilling my airtime a day before cutoff I lost my data(which is weird because the new card went in to my reserve). They did something on their end that immediately took effect after a reboot of my device. I'm hoping I don't have to do this every time I refill.
Straight Talk only works for 1 month at time

I have the same problem. I have 2 Verizon Samsung S5 that I have transferred to Straight Talk. Every month for the past 4 months I lose my data signal (calls work fine) . I have to call ST tech support and spend between 15 - 45 minutes (depending on how knowledgeable the tech person is) to get it reset so it works. Each phone does this on a different day so I have to do this twice a month. :crying:
They reset the provisioning on their end. Then I power off and reboot and it works for another month. Does anyone know what I have to set the APN to to fix this problem?
When I used the method in this thread and take the lines out of the build.prop, Only Verizon Internet shows under the APN. Do I need to add a ST APN and not comment out the lines?
I know this is old, but I can't find any way to edit apn settings for my nougat phone on straight talk through verizon towers. Nothing works, even with root.
I have a galaxy j3 sm-j337vpp
Thanks,
I know this is really old, but if someone is searching for the unable to edit APN for a Verzion phone, I have a fix.
Connect the phone for ADB debugging. Then open ADB shell and use the command:
am start -a android.intent.action.INSERT content://telephony/carriers --ei simId -1
It won't let you edit the current one or list, but you can add a new one now, and use it. Just reboot the phone after the new APN is in place.

Add APN Option is Missing from Moble Networks

I just noticed my new Note 4 SM-N910V running Android 5.1.1 does not have the Add APN or similar option listed under the Mobile Networks tab. Shouldn't it be listed here? I remember setting up my wife's Note 4 a year or so ago and it was there on hers. Unfortunately, her phone is broke now so I can't check it.
I only have the following under More Networks\Mobile networks:
Mobile Data
Data Roaming
Network Mode
System Select
I'm in the process of transferring my number over from my old phone to this Note 4, so I'm confused, how will I add my correct APN settings if the Add APN option is completing missing from the list of choices?

I found suggestions to run the APN app manually while searching the net.
When I try to launch com.android.settings.apneditor, nothing happens, not even an error message or anything.
When I search for apnsettings, I get two apps:
Service Mode RIL: com.sec.android.RilServiceModeApp.TestApnSettings
Settings: com.android.settings.Settings$ApnSettingsActivity
The Service Mode RIL app gives me an error: Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped
The other app for Settings actually opens an APN screen, but the + button does not work so I still can't add a new APN.
One APN is listed for Verizon Internet. I was going to try to edit it, but the only thing I could change was the APN field as everything else was greyed out.
Pics are attached.
I hope someone has some suggestions I can try. The phone is rooted!
Did you find a solution?
I'm having the exact same problem with my note 4. But I had the APN settings for a while although I couldn't edit them or create new ones. Then I checked recently and the options are gone. My menu settings are the same as your screenshots. Something removed them and if I can find out what could do that, hopefully I can get them back.

Here Is The solution
Download The App " Change Apn " From Playstore Or Apkpure
After Installing The App
Open The App And The APN Settings Will Appear
