No video after waking from sleep - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Occasionally when the shield wakes it does not display any video and the TV believes that there isn't an hdmi connection. So far the only factor in when it happens is if the shield was sleeping for 4+ hours, but it does not always happen. It has never happen after it slept for >1 hour but it has happened about 1 in 8 or 10 times after 4+ hours.
Any one else have this issue?

I have a similar issue. I get only sound and I need to force reboot by unplugging power from the shield

I have the same issue on Pro 500GB, anyone has solved?

I reived the Shield TV yesterday is the Pro, when i configure the first time update the shield automatic, can't skip the update to try if in 2.1 occurs, i try too downgrade to 2.1 but in the configuration can't continue if i not connected to internet, is possibe that is a general issue not only my device?

I have an Android TV Shield (v3.0) which is connected via an amp Denon April-x4100w (hdmi back cover). The first day everything was fine, the second day more image. I tried restarting the shield, reset the amp, turn off the upscaling of the amp, change the video frequency .... do you have a solution

I'm having the same issue with no video when waking up from sleep. The problem has been getting worse, and now it just cut the video out in the middle of a movie.

False alarm. It was the HDMI port on my TV. I'm dumb.

[Q] Tablet resets (restarts) itself when using the HDMI output and woken from sleep

I have a strange issue with my TF101, that I've just noticed. When using the HDMI output, if I put it to sleep and then I try to press the power button again to wake it up, it resets, as if doing a power cycle. If I'm using the HDMI output, I put it to sleep, I disconnect the HDMI cable and then I am waking it up, it works just fine (no reset). Is anyone else having the same issue? I'm wondering if mine has a hardware fault, and then I could have it replaced (I'm also experiencing some light bleeding).
I'm running the latest official ROM (3.1), stock, no root. I've confirmed the issue only when using the tablet itself, but I would assume the same problem exists when docked.
I did some more testing and the issue doesn't seem to be consistent. Instead of connecting the tablet via the sound system (Onkyo HTX-22HDX) I tried connecting it directly to the monitor (HP LP2475w) and that worked just fine (a bit of delay when turning the tablet screen, but nothing major). I then tried connecting it again via the sound system, and this time it worked to get the tablet out of sleep mode. So at this point I'm unable to reproduce the issue, although I didn't change anything.
Anyone else experienced the issue with the reboot? If so, how ofter and with which setup?

Nexus Q lose connection on idle

After using the Q, I typically just turn off the television or switch to another HDMI input. I have noticed that if I let it sit for a while, like a day or more, it loses connection to my wireless and also my television no longer sees it as a valid input source so I cannot switch to it. The only way I have been able to get it working again is to reboot the Q. Anyone else having this indefnite sleep problem? In some cases the lights on the Q turns off and in some cases the lights are still there but same outcome with no response.
Do you have one of the routers that Google has stated specifically have issues? I had a Netgear router that was on the list. I replaced it with a new Asus AC router and haven't lost connection in over a week. The Asus router is the best one I have ever owned.

I do lose wireless connection to it from my phone/tablet, however it is the fact that it is unable to register itself as a valid video device to the television is what is more concerning. When I toggle through my television's input sources, it doesn't show up anymore until I power cycle the device. I try to leave it on constantly, maybe no one else has been doing that? I'm using all the supplied cables that came with it including the hdmi, so I don't believe it to be faulty cabling or anything. Maybe I just have a faulty device if no one else is having the same issue.

Today I had the same exact issue. There was no HMDI output at all. I tried plug out and in the HDMI cable and power it down and up and still nothing. At the end I had to do a factory reset wait for some minutes and now it is working again. I also leave mine plugged all the time and I just change to another source to watch or play some games. After the factory reset I noticed that the device lights turn off when it goes idle before they didn't, they used to be on all the time. I wonder what is going on and there isn't a lot of documentation about this gadget.

I guess it is the price we pay for early users. I was just checking if this behavior was suppose to be "normal". It is weird though that you had to do a factory reset to get it to work again. For me, I just unplug the power and plug it back in and it works again. But it is a bit of a nuisance to have to power off and power on before each use after it has gone into its "idle" mode. I have yet to find a way to turn it on via its app or BT or any other comms. I'm just glad it's not only me

Nexus 10 really strange issue

Today I have a really strange issue with my Nexus 10.
I was opening Synology DS File app and streamed a movie from my NAS.
The screen was flikkering all the time and after pressing the power button the screen went black.
When I try to power on the device it doesn't to anything.
I already tried to push power button for 20 seconds, power button + volume UP/DOWN for more then 10 seconds.
Nothing seems to help.
When I put power to my Nexus 10 and I press the power button I see the battery icon led up.
That is the only thing I can do at the moment. Any suggestions how I can get my Nexus 10 hard rebooted/reset?
You can't get the battery out so that a real problem... any suggestions are welcome.
Apparently this was because the battery was empty and I was trying to charge the tablet with a micro usb cable which was not the original.
Hope it can help anyone with the same issue..

a really strange issue
I read that this is a common problem with the nexus 7 when charging with the brick charger but more commonly with USB cable when connected to a computer while the tablet is under heavy use. And since the nexus 10 can definitely drain faster than it can charge then this is more likely to occur with the nexus 10.
What happens is that you completely drain the battery beyond what is normal because the tablet thinks its charging so it continues to allow you to use it instead of powering off like it normally would if the tablet was not plugged in.
I think the fix for your problem would be to plug the tablet in with the wall charger & leave it for at least 30 minutes before you even try to touch it.
Good luck!
Indeed it was solved by charging my nexus 10. However I still find it odd it wouldn't power up while connected to a USB port instead of the wall.
Anyway it is solved now.
If you get a battery monitor widget you can see that a PC USB port charges at a slower rate than the OEM power supply which may have stopped it from powering up.

It has to do with the charging rate. With a computer USB it doesn't charge add fast as the wall charger. When you charge with the USB it is entirely possible to consume more energy than you are gaining (as you noticed with your OP) but the wall charger is much stronger.
It probably didn't start up because the battery was at a very critically low quantity beyond that where your tablet should have automatically powered off. Thus giving you the strange boot problems even when "plugged" in.
Glad your tablet is OK!
Do not run lithium batteries to 0% especially if you aren't going to use the device for awhile. This is because lithium batteries can be bricked if they fully discharge or drop below a certain voltage. A bms or battery management system will prevent this, but because it has to use power to monitor the battery it will eventually become the source of the brick.

MX Player Pro has just released an Android 4.3 compatible version. That player is the only one that played my all HD recordings without stutter and regardless to their audio encoding type. I would try the free version first then move to the Pro if it works for you. You can even find an custom decoding for DTS audio on XDA.

[Q] Silent OTA or Failing Unit?

This might be sort of a weird question (and as I've not had a chance to check my firmware numbers, I'm just shooting in the dark)..But has there been a silent OTA released?
The reason I ask it that two nights ago I noticed my MOJO went completely to sleep somewhere around an hour after we stopped playing. No blue light, and my connected hard drive was shut down as well. When I long-pressed my CTRLR, both system and drive came back on.
This never happened prior to this, but it has consistently happened since.
Quirk of my unit? System Failure? Silent OTA?
Anyone else notice this?

My build number is MO0110-ww. I don't think that the mojo will auto update. It to my understanding that you have to download an update manually like the link that is inside the mojo app and then use the update firmware app to install. Have you checked your sleep settings in the settings app. Yours could have been set to a long period of time. I have mine set to 1 day because I usually just unplug mine when I'm done because don't want to wait for the sleep to kick in to turn off the annoying blue light when I watch TV. The mojo will act like you said when it does sleep though. You might look under settings, display and see if that is what it is.
Strange. Mine has NEVER turned off (I plugged it in Christmas Eve) and have only unplugged when swapping out memory cards and hard drives. The light has always stayed on and the hard drives never shut down. Then all of a sudden the other night both happened. Freaked me out and I immediately long-pressed the CTRLR and checked my power connections. Everything seemed fine...Then an hour later it happened again. Checked again and all seemed well.
It was just weird for that to all of a sudden start happening when I had gone for an entire month with the system always "on."

Same thing happened to me. I was sitting watching television and notice the blue light on the mojo blink a few times, then go out. I immediately selected the "inputs" button on my remote, and the HDMI slot occupied by the MOJO was ghosted. I unplugged/plugged in the MOJO, and the blue light came on and the HDMI slot was no longer ghosted. Coincidentally, I tried the CTRL-R and discovered its batteries were dead. A little while later the light went out again. This time, I checked the inputs again, and found the MOJO HDMI input slot ghosted again. This time I wiggled the mouse I have for the MOJO, the blue light came on, and the input channel was no longer ghosted. The happened several more time over the course of the day. Each time a wiggle of the mouse woke the MOJO up. A couple of days ago, I replaced the batteries in the CTRL-R, and woke the MOJO up with it instead of the mouse. Then, just for the heck of it, I removed the batteries from the CTRL-R. The blue light stayed lit for 24 hours or so before going out. Unless the CTRL-R is sending some low level "stay-awake" signal to the MOJO, I don't know what to make of it. Everything works as usual otherwise. I submitted a ticket when the light first went out, but have yet to hear back.
Right now if you let the CTRLR go to sleep then it is preventing MOJO from correctly going to sleep - we're likely going to fix this with a firmware update for the CTRLR (which will also increase the time before it goes to sleep to 30 minutes).
If you turn the pad off or it runs out of batteries then MOJO will enter screen sleep after the time set in the display settings and then, shortly afterwards, it will enter deep sleep. Regarding firmware updates for MOJO, the next release will enable OTA but it will never ever do a silent update.

That's interesting.
I, like these guys, have been trying to figure out a way to control the blue light. I kind of went through the opposite experience. I set my mojo up as a media box before I went about getting games (was waiting on the a2a cable to root with) so I only had a keyboard and mouse combo plugged into it for the first sleep. I'd gotten used to the machine shutting it's light off, and couldn't figure out why after getting games the light would stay on the whole time. I just unplugged it at the end of every night and didn't worry about it for a while
I had noticed the sleep patterns of the CTRLR. I'd thought there'd be an LED response to a quick tap wake up similar to the long press pairing blinks so the lack of lead me to believe there was one sleep and one waking option. I've since figured out the sleep and deep sleep timings, but for a time I figured since I had to long press anyway, may as well take the batteries out and pop them in every time I'm done for a bit. Using rechargeable so it's just a good excuse for a good habit. I think I was watching Netflix and kind idol mindedly pressed the home button and volume button to find the light sleep.
in both cases I'd become comfortable with the deep sleep versions of off. The CTRLR is cool in either sleep modes, but the light on the console itself gives cause for alarm. I was used to mine being off so when it stayed on I first figured it must be hardware keeping it up while worrying it was some sort of nefarious app or some such nonsense. Once I'd linked removing the batteries to the light I pretty much had the whole bugger Sherlock'd, but I was unawares you could turn the pad off. Do you mean virtually or physically? I've not known any way of turning the controller off without taking out it's batteries.

Hi Welcome!
Turning the pad off is the same as turning it on a long hold on the home button (blue light).
A normal press wakes it up in sleep mode (5-10mins with no use).

Green light stays on when sleeping problem.

Hi,
I just got Shield TV. Everything works fine so far. Then suddenly it happened today. When I put Shield to sleep green light stays on. I don't have any USB accessories attached to the Shield.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I had this before too. My shield is rooted, don't know what exactly helped, but it's gone for a while - I'm doing time to time restart and also sometimes cleaning some unnecessary junks like dalvik, cash etc with root cleaner app (and there need root privileges)
Sent from my Nokia 3310 using free xda app
Mine is stuck on right now as well.
For me after few resets it works fine. I'm not sure if it will not come back.
Try turning it off fully by keeping your finger on the Nvidia 'button' for around 8-10 seconds. Ignore the pairing screen and eventually you will see an Android message about the system shutting down. Power it back on and, once booted, see if it's still giving the same issue. This forces a graceful shutdown rather than when you pull the power cable, assuming that's what you have tried.

Hey all,
did anybody solve this issue?
I am running full android on the Shield TV and after some time the screen gets black but the green light always stays on.
Even when I power off the device with my harmony smart control hub (puts the SATV to sleep mode) the green light stays on..
I already restarted several times and also forced shutdowns - didn't change a thing.
Has anybody an idea how to solve?
Thanks!

I already tried that and even tried another TV... didn't change anything
Does the green light also goes off when the device goes into sleep mode automatically (after 2 minutes e.g.)?
My biggest concern is that the device isn't going in a correct sleep mode so that it drains a lot of battery...
